    I just followed your instructions to clean up my fan cos it started to make noise due to all the dust inside. So I took it out and cleaned it. You have to be careful with these little plugs but now it's up and running again. Only waiting for the isolation material I ordered on ebay. Thank you for the great video! Cheers! ;)

    1:38 - don´t you apply some heat pistol before opening?.. or that trick is for older imacs?

    So has anybody thats been inside one have an opinion on the cracking or popping sounds seemingly coming from the speakers? I hear it too and ive seen it a lot in forums but when i put headphones in i still hear it coming from the computer but not in the headphones. Some ppl say its the adhesive foam expanding with heat

    I hear the proverbial 'chime' on my A1418 when I turn it on but nothing else happens. The screen remains black. I do smell smoke. There is no drive activity, no fan, nothing else. Replacing the hard drive did nothing to fix the issue. Would replacing the fan be an adviseable strategy? Thanks in advance.

    unrelated to the fan, but while we have the screen off can we replace the HDD with any SDD? I have a 1TB HDD and would like to have a 1TB SDD if I can just swap it out?

    • @CB-kt7qd
      @CB-kt7qd 5 років тому

      CardinalHijack yes but you need a temperature sensor or else the fan will turn at maximum speed. U can find the kid at ifixit or owc website. You could also use macsfancontrol software to control the speed of the fan, but in this case u should always keep an eye on the temperature values.

    For me is not enough complicated. Next generation of iMacs should using arthroscopic surgery and dedicated surgery table in order to be fixed, not just plastic cads and ridiculous rotary cutter.

    i have this imac, but shuts down after using it for some hours, and won´t to power up again even if i press power button...
    the solution is to disconnect physically from power supply (on wall) and wait about 30 minutes...
    does someone knows what could it be? .. i´m not sure if it is a temperature problem, because its value is rounding 91°F.. i think is good..

    • @digimikeh

      I've had the same problem for over a year now. I've had it to Apple and they kept it for a few days to run all sorts of tests. Of course it didn't happen while they had it and their tests found no hardware or software issues. So, I took it home and the problem stopped for many months. I should also note that during transport in the car the Mac was accidentally banged against the dashboard pretty hard. I thought that maybe this knocked something back into place since nothing else changed to cause the problem to stop. Anyway, now it's happening again and I too am thinking about replacing the power supply (something Apple suggested if it came back). Please let me know how it's going!

      Interesting. After getting a new iMac I reformatted the drive on the old iMac and did a clean install of Sierra. Still have a fan problem. Also opened it up and replaced heat sensor. No luck. I suppose I should just replace the fan and see what happens. Thank you for responding :)

    for such a beautiful machine, removing the glass is quite stone age.. "pry open by wedging plastic to separate adhesive'. Adhesive?! really? Why isn't there just a single button? Come on Apple I expect END to END beauty.. including repair procedures.

    This is useful information, but if you're wealthy enough to own one of these, why not just pay for service? This is nearly the least user-customizable device I've ever seen.

      I am going to do mine myself because all the repair places want my iMac for 5 to 7 working days. No place for one day repair. I would rather pay for expert repair and warrantee but I can't be without it that long.

    • @Leprutz
      @Leprutz 5 років тому +2

      Apple is shit. After seeing this video I am hating it even more. Damn right you are. Least user-customizable. That's exactly what they want. It's expensive and not nearly as powerful as customizable pc for some low bucks.

    the problem with touching the electronics is not that it gives you a shock xD it's so that you don't give it a shock and damage it! the electronics are surely out of any power in this moment but if you're rolling around a carpet or charged yourself up otherwise (like when rubbing a balloon) you are in danger of damaging the electronic pieces... but anyways it helped as I now know I have to go through the screen. just don't fool your audiences anymore,,, the worst vid on youtube was about a guy who blew air into his imac instead of sucking it and the dust out... absolutely professional (irony)

    • @HowdyFolksGaming
      @HowdyFolksGaming 5 років тому +2

      Hubi Guschti um, the part she was referencing was the power supply. It can hold a charge for hours after being powered down, and can deliver enough power to kill you.
