I remember, back in the day before the internet was as big as it was, my brother and I had Diamond and Pearl. We had both sunk hours upon hours in it. He was further then me and I got bored one day and stole his ds and just explored around post game areas I didn't have access to yet. I wandered into the Spring Path and got lost in the cave system that it led me to. For some reason, even though I DESPISED caves as a kid (hated how the wild encounters stopped you every 5 seconds) I kept wandering around it because it was new. It was mysterious. As far as I or ANYONE I talked to back then knew, this cave didn't exist. It wasn't talked about. But it was ENDLESS. Every once and awhile I found a pillar but when I tried turning back I couldn't leave. So I kept going. And eventually I entered a room and I can't remember exactly but I could've sworn the music changed. The atmosphere felt different as if the cave itself had opened up. And there it was. A small sprite that blew my little mind. Because, in this cave that was endless, in this path tucked away by a part of the map no one ever went back to, there was a pokemon absolutely no one, and I mean it, no one knew about. I had been playing pokemon for years. I had friends who had been playing it for years. We had all sunken weeks of our lives into these new games, exploring every inch, catching every creature, finding every item. And yet, there it was. A 6 legged, winged bug-like sprite, slumbering away and waiting to be discovered. It felt like a fever dream almost. I checked the pokedex first, sure that at some point I must have not reached yet there was a clue to what this pokemon was, but there wasn't anything my brother was missing. No data entry yet to be discovered. I saved and reloaded to make sure I didn't somehow mess up his cartridge. When it was still there, I RAN to my brother to show him this brand new pokemon and he was just as astonished. He was two years older then me and in a different grade and NONE of his friends had heard or seen this creature before either. I remember him grilling me for awhile about where the hell I was in the game before I kept bothering him to go up to it and battle it. I was HANGING over his shoulder as he threw out his Lucario (his favorite pokemon) and we quickly figured out that while this thing looked bug-like, it was anything but and: It. Hit. HARD. Needless to say my brother did not stock up for his little sister to go spelunking her way through a cave and right into a boss battle. He slowly weakened the pokemon called Giratina as his team took some heavy damage. When he finally got it into the red he gave the DS to me. He had 3 great balls, 12 pokeballs and 1 premiere ball. It was not looking promising. We couldn't risk going and stocking up on items or pokeballs because I didn't even know how or why I ended up in front of this thing to begin with and knew I couldn't find my way back if I tried. Out of the two of us, I was known for being able to catch any pokemon in any ball. After all, when my brother had spent hours throwing balls at Zapdos in the power plant all the way back in pokemon Blue, I grabbed his Gameboy and threw one single pokeball where all his ultra balls had failed and caught it on my first attempt. Back then that was a true display of great skill, for greater then simple luck that I became known for. I was our only hope. I took a deep breath, knowing that it mattered just how fast I would be able to mash that B button and hold the down direction at the same time. And I started throwing. The ultra ball was no luck, and I was rusty, having walked through a cave all day instead of filling my dex. So of course it couldn't contain this great mystery. Great balls were my favorite ball of all so I saved them, knowing if push came to shove they would pull through for me. I threw out 5 pokeballs, only seeming to practice my technique as Giratina busted each and every one of them only to knock out even more of my brothers team. They were not looking healthy at all and a few more attacks would've ended up in a white out and this pokemon would've been lost to our memories and the disbelief of our classmates. I switched over to the great ball and now it was my brother's turn to lurch over my shoulder, his fingers digging into my arm as I prayed to the pokemon gods that I wouldn't let my brother down. The blue and red ball shook once, twice... 3 times. The legend was caught. I FORCED my brother to immediately trade it into my game so I could get it on my pokedex to prove to my friends this incredible, unbelievable, never before seen or heard of pokemon existed and that I was the one who discovered it! To this day, Giratina is still one of my brothers favorite pokemon and although I am not a legendary fan, that shadow ghost will always hold a special place in my heart because it reminds me that even when absolutely everything seems explored and all the answers are found, there are still mysteries just waiting for us out there. One tip for Turnback Cave is actually to NOT go the same direction the whole time. You actually wanna just go to the closest/easiest to get to door to cut down on time. If its all random, there's no reason at all to no just go diagonal to the closer door.
I think about it this way. If you're taking a test and every answer is a different multiple choice of 3 and you guess at all the questions, then the results are random. If you pick A for every answer, you have set results and about 33% correct. My argument is that if you pick a different door every single time, you have a theoretical higher and lower chance of not getting it within 30 than just picking the same one. Can a math professor let me know if this makes any sense? lol Maybe somehow related to the St. Petersburg paradox?
@@AustinJohnPlays ur correct. If u think of the right answer having a zigzag pattern to cover the equal random probability choosing the same answer would make ur answer and the right answer line up. Same concept as a broken clock being right twice a day
@@AustinJohnPlays Not a math prof, but studied a fair amount of math in college, the odds are the exact same. One way to think of it is, in the first scenario both you and the answer key are random decision makers with a 1/3 chance of selecting A, B, or C and there is a 1/3 chance that your guess matches the correct answer (you can verify this as there are 9 combinations and in 3 out of the 9, you are correct: A-A, B-B, C-C). If you pick A every time, your guess is set but it is still a 1/3 chance that the selected correct answer matches your guess. Each guess/answer is independent and so in other words, these two scenarios are literally identical; your decision doesn't matter if you don't know what the answer is, whether you choose A, B, or C, at random, or in a set pattern, creates symmetrical sample spaces, and there is always a 1/3 chance the answer key "selects" the same one you do. What you might be thinking of is that the variance would be different, i.e. guessing randomly on a test means you are more likely to get 100% or 0% rather than just 33% but while this intuitively feels right, it actually isn't if the test answers are truly random (not coded so it's guaranteed to not repeat). And while I won't go into a full explanation, hopefully the explanation above that shows that the two scenarios are essentially identical + the fact that the variance of the sum independent random variables is the same as sum of the variances is enough to convince you that that isn't true.

They put it as a distortion room instead. Maybe it will come out as dlc in the future, but one thing is for sure. At least they added some touch of it in the game I dont see why so many ppl are complaining about the distortion world like that was the main meat of this generation
Small thing, you only need to have cleared the Titans in order to gain access to the Distortion Plate. I caught Giratina first then did the Regis. Now I have access to it and the Distortion Room.
Austin you have helped me do so many things in the Pokémon games for the past few years I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart I couldn't done some of the games without you thanks again
Origin Giratina looks so gosh darn cool here, really wish the distortion story was put in as the post game story line to make this encounter complete. Can imagine all the Pokémon and opponents being like level 70 and up to make it more challenging, with Giratina itself being level 100 at the end to give a truly epic final boss feel. And of course the orb that gives it the origin form would be the final prize at the end to top it all off. But oh well, just glad you can get the origin form in the game at least.
I remember getting that preorder bonus giratina figure from GameStop with platinum back in the day- I think that was what Austin mentioned near the end.

Ever since I was 6 I’ve always just went forward in the Turnback Cave, you really don’t need any strategy for it, just keep going up and eventually Giratina will be there.
austin man, your an amazing youtuber bro, like your whole channel is incredible and you take time to help the rest of the community get help on everything. you probably get it alot but your great for making these vids man keep it up!!!
I’m not sure if this is in the pipeline already, but I would be very interested in a quick exp video! I know that you normally make those for new Pokémon games, so I am assuming that you will cover that topic at some point (no rush btw, you’ve already put so much work into this research and these videos), but I just wanted to put it out there that I would find one to be very useful! :D
In the turn back cave, use the rock formations as guidance. Go through the doors that: Have the arrow formations pointing towards them. That are not blocked off by rock formations. Go through the doors with the diagonal rock formations in front of them. I've managed to get this done in 4 rooms using this.
I encountered giratina 2 days ago. Wasn’t planning on shiny hunting it but it was shiny on that very 1st encounter. I used my master ball and save just after that in case the game crashes. Now he’s saved in my PC.
Gonna let you know that I am so appreciative that you aren't trying to gimmick me into subbing. Been subbed since SwSh but seeing the genuine appreciation and explanation of analytics is a far better way than most UA-camrs go about it. Keep up the good work. Seeing both your personal and channel growth in this short time has been enjoyable. I look forward to your informative content during the Arceus release.
Can't wait for all the Legends Arceus content to come. I started supporting the channel when you were releasing Breath of The Wild content. This gives me all those returning vibes. Thanks for all the info on the games I love (Pokemon & Zelda) Here's to hoping a great 2022 full of Amazing new content!
Keep it up man I've watched your content since sword and shield but I finally made myself to subscribe you've always got the best content for the games
I just got the game a few weeks ago and never played it before, love these videos and other ones you have because they are super helpful. Although i do have questions about some items and other stuff in the game
Are the statues that spawn in the caves the same as the ones they give you for the secret base? If thats the case then I feel that they probably programmed it the same way as the other single room encounters, likely even copy/pasting the skeleton. It’s probably set up as clear room -> place statue/items. This brings up some questions: What happens if you KO the Pokémon instead of capturing it? Are the rooms programmed to be cleared if you beat the Pokémon wether or not it’s added to your box? What about if you release the Pokémon before talking to the guy? Is he programmed to check if you have it when you pass him? Is the guy programmed to give us the statue after capturing the Pokémon in the room and they forgot to put in an exception since it can’t be caught?
So I just followed your guide, I got to Giratina in 4, so my strategy was following what the old game says, for example if the rocks are the same on the adjacent side you came through then you continue ahead, if they’re different you go through the adjacent doorway, and vice versa
By the way Austin when the 1.18 minecraft caves and cliffs update drops will you be making a series playing it? It would be really cool, I really enjoyed the one you made around a year ago
I was one of those that Bought the PLATINUM GUIDE. That one does tell you… you have to make it before 15 tries or the items get lowered and it did tell you the pattern. The guide, I hope, is still at my parents. I have kids now but I remember platinum was favorite. The ash pickachu poke center Easter egg was amazing to me but you had to mate ash pikachu with a lvl 100. That was not in the guide had to find out myself. Basically nurse joy didn’t want to heal my pichu.
I have a Giratina statue, my uncle works for Pokémon and gave me a special copy of the game with it already in my secret base. My girlfriend would confirm this but she goes to a different school.
Let me just take a minute to thank you for all these helpful videos for BDSP. I was so lost in the beginning and I would have missed out on so much additional content without all your work. You are a hero to all of us who are adulting in the day and exhausted at night but still make time for Pokémon.
Correct me if I'm wrong. I don't think you can use escape rope in here as I tried to use escape rope after catching Giratina but it was a few days ago so I could remember it wrong:)
It took me 3 mins to encounter him using your method just going right ! Sheesh super fast but took a lot longer to catch him bro did not want to go inside
I hunted Giratina while I watched this. I essentially kept going forward and after 9 rooms I found my first pillar decided to stick with going right. Lo and behold I found the second and third pillar in the next 2 rooms I went in after the first. Just one after another.
@austinjohn if you don't have the national Dex the springy path doesn't exist! If you go to the opening before . The route doesn't actually exist. Then when you go back it just magically changes!
Here's me getting to Giratina on my very first try by NOT following Austin John's advice! 😂 I literally thought I would give it only one try before trying using his method and it worked!
I remember when I first did this in pearl way back when. Giratina was my first legendary ever to be caught with a PokeBall. Dam thing took me 3 days to do it
I'm just now starting to play it because my 2 year old niece likes it. I'm really surprised of the number of pokemon in the game being so bad. There's not really a lot of some types like fire, dragon, or fairy until the post game. I'd thought that since they were remaking it they'd put effort into fixing some of those super blatant issues. ILCA didn't do good at all.
Here's a little something I discovered a couple of days after the games were released. The Shadow Giratina has a chance of appearing as a shiny of course the only difference is the shiny sparkles
I had the toy statue as a kid. My mom's friend bought it from someone to have it shipped for my birthday. I'm not sure where it is now, but I used to carry it with me to school.
I went left and hit one pillar, then went right and took me 12 different rooms going to the right to hit the 2nd pillar, 3rd pillar came at room 14. Just keep going left or right like the video says. Thanks!
I got to Giratina by accident. I'm a new player so I didn't know this was how to get to it but I kept getting lost in the cave until I somehow ran into them and was so shocked. Took me about 200 balls to get em but I didn't give up😭
I no this video old but i just started playing both diamond and pearl game’s including Arceus to find all legendarys and ive been watching video on how to catch and thank for these videos 🔥🔥
I might have just been really lucky, but I followed my same route as Pokémon Platinum. I went straight up three rooms and then took a right. The pillars should be 12, 24, and then a different sequence entirely. Then you take your room to the right and Giratina will appear. If it is randomized, I might have just been blessed by RNGesus.
I had the pokemon national dex book for sinnoh as a child and i remmeber in the book they had a complete guide for how turnback cave works and how to find the pillar each time. I don't have the book anymore unfortunately as it was destroyed in a flood a while back but there was a certain pattern to it from what i remember and it corrosponds to how the rocks are oriented iirc. Also when you do find a pillar i think there is a guarnteed chance that one of the next rooms will be a pillar and the book told me how to find it but again i dont recall exactly how it works
I usually don't try to fully get my hand around the after-game in Pokémon games. I was just biking around to hatch my eggs, I've seen this passage I've never seen before , so I got in, having NO CLUE what it was or where it led. Got lost in this maze, never expected to find Giratina down there. Later on, back to the Park, I find another Giratina (I've been silly to think i could catch it again 😅) This is the lost Pokémon magic
so not too long ago being 30mins lol i got a shiny giratina on my 5th reset. I was pretty excited about it since i went there to shiny farm it. So lucky. Giratina was always one of my favorites
I wish that the Pokemon company could've done a better job of making Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Pokemon Shining Pearl a lot better by including all of the Pokemon that are in the Pokemon Platinum Pokedex along with making a Pokemon Platinum remake so it could include every in-game distributions that were in the cartridges that were discontinued years ago, etc.
Not sure if you know but once you get the regi trio, you can go to the museum in the ice town and go inside it, go all the way down and you can get regigigas
Ah man i wish they just did a Pokemon platinum rather then two separate games. Going to the distortion world was pretty fun
Could you imagine if that had vr? I know pokemon doesn't touch that stuff, but pokemon in vr would be wild, especially areas like that!

@@dylleealt so since the chances are the same but one way is faster then he other in terms of saving time then the commenters way is better choice because simply it’s faster?
I’ve been playing Pokémon since red, yellow, and blue. And man I gotta say your vids help so much with keeping up with all the new features and stuff, thank you for your service my dude!
Day one 💪🏽
Damn shame the Distortion World wasn't in the game in full but at least we get Giratina's Origin form
I dont understand what was so good about the distorted world i thought it was the worst section in the games
@@erikperez4829 it was just something cool that had come out during the upgrade game like ultra wormholes is usum. Everyone wanted to do it bc it was new idk
@@erikperez4829 it just sucks having content removed
@@erikperez4829 I heard and correct me If I am wrong, there was a version of it in Black and White where you could plant berries on it, I remember my kid brain to get mindblown by the 3D effects of walking trough walls horizontally and upside down
They put it as a distortion room instead. Maybe it will come out as dlc in the future, but one thing is for sure. At least they added some touch of it in the game I dont see why so many ppl are complaining about the distortion world like that was the main meat of this generation
A bit unfortunate there is no platinum distortion world, but it's pretty cool they added the shadow Giratina instead.
Was literally thinking as soon as the Ramanas Park video went up, "Huh, I wonder how you get Shadow Giratina." I think Austin is a mind reader
I've been watching him since sun and moon, good times.
I stuck to your strategy and did it within 6 doors lol
*AJP has come so far since our BotW days. I’m so proud of you brother. Keep up the phenomenal work!*
What I love is yeah they used the diamond and pearl battle, but it’s cool they gave a nod to the platinum battle against giratina
Did anyone else find Giratina by random as a kid on the OG D&P? That was an awesome feeling.
That's why I have been thinking never use the internet again when I buy a pokemon game and just explore things myself
Ooooh, I love distortion form of Giratina! I'm glad to know that fighting this version unlocks it.
I used this method and got all three pillars in 9 rooms so thanks for this guide it was super helpful
I remember getting that preorder bonus giratina figure from GameStop with platinum back in the day- I think that was what Austin mentioned near the end.
Don’t have the game but still loving these videos, they are making me want to get the games so bad haha I love Austin John I live on his videos man idk how I would get through the games without his help lol
Same! I'm trying to get money to get a switch
@@kenny4553 Well, you should probably get it soon because Nintendo is having a 50% discount for games on the Nintendo eShop since last time I checked!
I was on the fence but after watching Austin John videos they made me want to get it
Thanks for the info!
@@taim_sabe where i live brilliant diamond is 400 lol
“if your team isn’t level 66 then idk if you should be over here, anyways we’re gonna make our way..” lmfao the way you just flew through that made me laugh
this is a really fun event :D i didnt play the og game, so its gunna be fun to see it for the first time :D thanks for all the great coverage !
I got really lucky on the pillars area didn't know it was random and just ran around. Was finished in less than 10 rooms
found a few methods/areas, but working on the BEST method.
In the turn back cave, use the rock formations as guidance.
Go through the doors that:
Have the arrow formations pointing towards them.
That are not blocked off by rock formations.
Go through the doors with the diagonal rock formations in front of them.
I've managed to get this done in 4 rooms using this.
I like the honesty and respect in that beginning segment, I subscribed for that and how I've already watched 5 of ur vids forever ago ❤
I made a Weavile made specifically for hunting ghosts. The move set was: foresight, false swipe, dark pulse, and ice beam.
You’re a demon 😂
Dark pulse and ice beam on a weavile dude?
Dude. Night Slash and Ice shard
@@SomeGuy-cf2lp exactly
False swipe has no effect on ghost types
I encountered giratina 2 days ago. Wasn’t planning on shiny hunting it but it was shiny on that very 1st encounter. I used my master ball and save just after that in case the game crashes. Now he’s saved in my PC.
For the giratina encounter, just run up left up left a bunch of times and you will get it eventually
13:25 maybe its in the data as a little easter egg for people who know about the pre-order
Giratina Statue is more than likely this generations Azure Flute. As much as I don't want that to be the case.
Tipp for the Shadow Garantina, if you have a dialga lvl 70 with Roar of time, it's 2 shot
9:49 nice “the office” reference
“If the gabba is not on the gool. I send it back”

Oh yeah and thanks for the help😅
7:01 Nah i started bussing out laughing i didnt think you meant this when you said the disclaimer LOL
Amazing video, thank you for the details. I was a little afraid after finding out shadow Giratina was Lv100 before battling, but it worked out.
13:45 The most *simple* yet the *best* explanation for unreleased Pokemon events ever made!
This brings up some questions:
What happens if you KO the Pokémon instead of capturing it?
Lol
13:43 Hm, no pinned comment about a Giratina Statue as of just yet, so I bet it's still not out.
4 and 9 wow that was quick luck for me 😅
I just did this and found it within the first three rooms, I just went right the whole time. This was my first time doing it too.
FOUND IT IN 8 ROOMS BABY!!!!!!
It took me 3 mins to encounter him using your method just going right ! Sheesh super fast but took a lot longer to catch him bro did not want to go inside
Just to help u have to unlock post game
I hunted Giratina while I watched this.
I essentially kept going forward and after 9 rooms I found my first pillar decided to stick with going right.
Lo and behold I found the second and third pillar in the next 2 rooms I went in after the first. Just one after another.
Your videos have been incredibly helpful going through BD/SP. Keep up the awesome work! And thanks for your help!
THANK YOU SO MUCH I WAS THERE FOR 3 HOURS JUST CIRCLING AROUND LOOKING FOR GIRATINA

@austinjohn if you don't have the national Dex the springy path doesn't exist! If you go to the opening before . The route doesn't actually exist. Then when you go back it just magically changes!
I just did this and it allowed me to get Giratina without any issues. Each room right after was a pillar that led me to get to it
The original diamond and pearl game had fixed paths for this cave and you could find it in its guide book. Fun and interesting stuff.
In summary:*Insert overused "I am a shadow, the true self!" line from Persona 4 here*
Here's me getting to Giratina on my very first try by NOT following Austin John's advice! 😂 I literally thought I would give it only one try before trying using his method and it worked!
I remember when I first did this in pearl way back when. Giratina was my first legendary ever to be caught with a PokeBall. Dam thing took me 3 days to do it
Anyone else notice his camera splits in two at 7:44?
In the previous video, I commented where giratina? And boom Austin makes a video about it
IIRC, in the OG games riding the bike increased the chances of entering a pillar room. No clue if it's the same in these games.
Just got it in 12 rooms I was just switching up the door I go through each time got 3 pillars in 12 rooms worked out for me pretty quick
I went left and hit one pillar, then went right and took me 12 different rooms going to the right to hit the 2nd pillar, 3rd pillar came at room 14. Just keep going left or right like the video says. Thanks!
Oh interesting! Seems I need to spend way more time digging in the Underground though. 😆
As soon as I heard you say just go in one direction I found all the pillars in just 4 rooms lol.
I got to Giratina by accident. I'm a new player so I didn't know this was how to get to it but I kept getting lost in the cave until I somehow ran into them and was so shocked. Took me about 200 balls to get em but I didn't give up😭
Great video, other videos don’t tell you how to get the distortion slate to show up - great videos as always 😊
I no this video old but i just started playing both diamond and pearl game’s including Arceus to find all legendarys and ive been watching video on how to catch and thank for these videos 🔥🔥
I just caught Giritina yesterday,I just went straight lol😁
That preorder statue was in the us for platinum- I had one. Was super cool
When I first found the Spring Path I didn't realize it was the Giratina spot until I saw the ominous cave entrance in the middle of the lake.
Just wanna say thank you for the guide, just used it. And worked perfect. Thanks
Manage to find the pillars in 6 rooms and quick ball the Giratina in the first round… yup 👍🏼 this was quite successful
Thank you for this! I just went to the right several times and literally found him in 30 seconds 😂😂
I just went to the right the whole time like you said and I got it in 6 rooms. The last three were all pillars 😂
He's right locked until post game, I double checked lol
I’ll tell you one thing Austin John, your layout for where to dig is useful in some situations.
I literally got into Giratina room less than ten room and I follow your strategy thanks
In the original games there were numbers on the pillars which served as clues for the player to navigate the cave.
I usually don't try to fully get my hand around the after-game in Pokémon games.
I was just biking around to hatch my eggs, I've seen this passage I've never seen before , so I got in, having NO CLUE what it was or where it led.
Got lost in this maze, never expected to find Giratina down there.
Later on, back to the Park, I find another Giratina (I've been silly to think i could catch it again 😅)
This is the lost Pokémon magic
so not too long ago being 30mins lol i got a shiny giratina on my 5th reset.
I wonder if the item ID for the Giratina statue is just a model ID for the upside down statue that appears in the distortion room
You can use False Swipe on Giratina if first you use Soak to make it a Water-type. I had an easy time with it doing this.
Not sure if you know but once you get the regi trio, you can go to the museum in the ice town and go inside it, go all the way down and you can get regigigas
By far the BEST Pokemon game channel in the community. Thanks for your help!
Thank you Austin Johns i got to Girantina in a total amount of 8 rooms
