  • Complete Walkthrough of creating and editing an HDR merge in Luminar NEO.
    Power Up Luminar NEO with the HDR Merge Plug in here bit.ly/HDR4NEO

    You guys requested it, so here's a demo featuring a full walkthrough of my techniques for creating an HDR merge and then editing it from start to finish in Luminar NEO. We'll take a look at layers, blending modes, merging bracketed exposures and also how to use the tool for single image HDR processing. HDR is back with a vengeance and better than ever!
    HDR should be a way to give us a natural and rich image to start our processing. It should yield realistic results and unlock hidden details in an authentic way that represents what the human eye sees rather than what the camera's limited sensor can capture. And THANKFULLY that's what Luminar NEO's HDR Merge plug in does.
    It's a simple to use tool with an extremely powerful algorithm under the hood. The HDR Merge Plug-in is based on Aurora's award winning best-in-class Quantum Engine, so those natural merges we've come to love from Aurora are available to us for a fraction of the price. (OR FREE if you already own Aurora HDR-19)
    Check out Luminar's brand new merge to HDR plugin here:

    Anthony, you are a master at using this software. The technique you’ve demonstrated is very impressive and absolutely outstanding. In my opinion, however, the tutorial is more geared towards the “advanced” users of Neo. In my case, I’m somewhat short of being an “intermediate” user. Thanks to you and several other channels I subscribe to, I’ve come a long way in the past few months, but I still have a long long way to go before I’m where I want to be. Because of that, it’s still pretty easy for me to get lost in the details of your full edits. I realize you’re trying to keep the edit within a reasonable amount of time, but trying to keep up with everything you’re doing gets to be a real challenge for me at times.
    For that reason, might I suggest that you break down your full detailed edits into consecutive parts? Start out by addressing the “beginner” steps of the edit in one video; then progress on to the “intermediate” and “advanced” edit steps in consecutive videos continuing on with the same image. Once finished, you could then post all 3 videos at the same time. That way, all of us “beginners” can better digest all of the fantastic things you’re doing to enhance an image; thus enabling us to “learn the ropes” easier.

    Anthony, as a follow up to my last comment regarding having trouble following all your detail work. I just discovered how helpful reading the full transcript can be. It allows me to follow all the different detail steps easier. This is a great feature for us beginners because it allows us to go at our own “slower” pace so we can eventually digest all the information you’re teaching us. Thanks again for for your help and contribution to our learning.

      Thanks mate - this Tiger was one of our best sightings in India. His name was Mukunda .... I use the word was because some scumball poached him. We've been to India several times .... Tigers are the finest animals we've ever seen. We were very well known there and my wife was given the honour of naming a Tiger, which is loosely translated as 'Beautiful Princess' This is a rare honour. You probably know but in case you don't, every Tiger cub is given a name like A1, B3, C4 etc etc until they reach some form of maturity and are likely to survive, then they name them.

    AT, absolutely outstanding! Lots of moving parts in that video, but the amount of editing power you’ve so effectively illustrated is marvelous! I’ve seen the introduction of the solid color in other videos, probably yours, at first blush I’m having difficulty wrapping my head around what it brings to the table. I guess the ability to give an overall “look” to the photo. I certainly have some work to do! 👍. Thank you sincerely for your efforts, expertise & inspiration! Bill

      @AnthonyTurnham  2 роки тому

      Yeah, I demoed the idea of a solid colour a while back. I have noticed a few channels releasing similar content after I've posted info, but it's all good 😀 So the idea is simply to add a sense of colour harmony to the photo. To pull the spectrum into a more unified hue. I find it more visually pleasing than having colours all over the place. JMHO 😀

    Initially I thought that HDR was not for me ,but after watching your video I’m being to warm to it . Especially for single image edits .
    How ever I still can’t at this time bring myself around to paying 50$ plus for add in when I paid less than that for Neo it’s self
    There may be a good reason for this cost , if you know could you comment please .
    Still a great video so I feel a coffee coming your way
    Mike

    • @AnthonyTurnham
      @AnthonyTurnham  2 роки тому

      Hi Mike. Cheers for the coffee ☕️!!! Much appreciated 😊 Yeah, the plugin isn't cheap but I think it's a fair reflection of it's value in an editors workflow (IF HDR is something you'll use). It's about 1/3 cost of Aurora which it's algorithm is borrowed from. Although you were an early adopteter with NEO and got it for a ridiculously low price (good on you btw!) it then makes it hard to quantify other costs relative to that initial bargain. I'd just separate your good deal on NEO and evaluate the HDR plugin on its merits alone. 🙂

    I'll need to bookmark this but play at halfspeed 😃. One question, we try to get well focussed images, but you then use glow (and something else) to 'soften' the image. I've been told 'soft' doesn't mean 'out of focus' but perhaps you could explain. Thanks for all this effort.

    • @AnthonyTurnham
      @AnthonyTurnham  2 роки тому +1

      Hi Blair. Cheers for watching! If we add glow, or mystical etc. it's more about adding a feeling to the photo. If you look at pixel level, your edges are still nice and sharp. I'd recommend just playing around and seeing what you effects you like.

    Maybe the up-coming plug-ins may include a return to the 'Augmented Sky' features. I miss including flying birds and rainbows along with changing the skies. Also perhaps the much missed 'Clone Stamp' tool! What do you think Anthony? Regards from Felix the Cat. 🐱🐱

    • @AnthonyTurnham
      @AnthonyTurnham  2 роки тому

      I think with what we can do with layers and the AI mask feature the days of the Augmented Sky tool are over. We can use those elements (birds, rainbows etc.) in an even more controlled way now. I'd recommend finding the folder of elements and bringing a few in, have a play around with the layer blend modes and the sky mask. You'll be able to recreate the same effect as augmented sky.

    Thanks, solid information. I have a thought I would like you to help explore. If the HDR merge allows auto-align of multiple photos could we use that same process to do a focus stack? I’m not worried about blending different exposures, just focus stacking. If that doesn’t work is there a way to use NEO to focus stack, hopefully easily? I can only see using layers and brushing in the focus areas? But auto-alignment would really help this. Any help appreciated. Thanks and cheers, G 😊

    • @AnthonyTurnham

My confusion lies on where we are painting the part of the HDR top layer to merge with the below layer. my understanding is that the top layer with the blue rectangular surrounding is what we are working on . if so how do we combine the part of the HDR layer painted with the original layer below. I don't get that part at all. please help
