Its one thing I love about Taskmaster. It comes twice a year and Inbetween we get Taskmaster New Zealand. I really need to watch the other versions too
So glad Taskmaster is back and that you’re reacting again! Fern Brady actually mentioned on Instagram that her and Dara joked about the English bias of the ‘Jaws’ clue but it didn’t make the edit. Not sure about Dara’s accent, but as someone with a similar Scottish accent to Fern’s I know my brain would have never made that connection 😅
No one standing out me as a favourite yet. But I did like Sarah’s toilet roll task, as the water was a good idea. I do hope there are plenty of tasks with chances for lateral thinking.
@@travelwell6049 I agree that there were no standouts on that first episode. I think everybody had their moments in this one. Strong opener because of that, I think.
I think this is the strongest opening episode we've seen in a while. Still can't get over how they keep coming up with so many original ideas 14 series in!
I saw a lot of people saying they didn't like John Kearn's comedy, that it was OTT, but that they were surprised he turned out to be one of the best in this season. And even though I didn't know him previously, I loved him on TM.
Just discovered your channel. Such a naturally fun reaction. This show lends itself so well to reactions. Great to see you figuring out your own strategies. Big man gets a sub.
A lightning reaction , good to see Taskmaster back Munya looks a character , Fern and John had a good start but there was a good interaction between the contestants . Dara with his comedy and scientific reputation probably had most expectations and Sarah with her many tv appearances made up a promising cast . I thought maybe the tasks weren't quite as good as the last series for this first show but it's glorious to have a new series to look forward to .Well done Neil - I thought penguin - and the studio task was really interesting . It's always nice to see your enthusiasm for this great show .
With the last task, the concept of near/far was a bit of an illusion because of the shape of the container. All the weight was funnelled into a singular point on the balance anyway. I actually think Sarah's the wildcard. Dara's probably going to be measured and scientific about it (with the obligatory breakdown), Fern and Munya feel like the 'get on with it' type and John's the creative. Sarah, I feel could go any way in her approach.
In regards your statement about considering the distance from the fulcrum being illusionary this is not entirely the case, as the force in play is gravity on the individual mass (M x g= F in newtons) of each item, and the gravitational force(s) will be directed straight to the centre of the earth therefore the calculation of torque/moment of each object has to take the distance from the point of rotation into account. Hey gonna be a bit of some variables playing a part as each object's weight is supported/spread by the funnel and others objects.... but the singular point would/will only fully come into play if/when the seesaw is in equilibrium (or held level in which case it would be moot as no rotation possible) Don't cha reckon?
@@firstsurname7099 That's why I said 'bit of'. Each item has its own interaction with the container itself. But, think of it this way. If you sit on a seesaw and then put on a massive backpack, it won't matter if you wear it on your front or back. The force is still applied where you sit.
Minus’s gardener story is one of hundreds, es got a lot of weird tales of Zimbabwe and his dad …hopefully more will come out on taskmaster-if not, just listen to the ep of Off Menu podcast he’s on…so funny
The “throwing stuff from on high” task reminds me of the 2006 Discworld Convention, which may interest you given your shirt in this episode. The convention was held in a hotel that had a four- or five-storey atrium at the centre, known as The Hub for the sake of the con. At one point we had an impromptu competition to launch paper planes from the 3rd floor, with bonus points for various things. The most was of course a whole 50 points for landing a plane on Terry’s hat. I can’t remember for certain if anyone did, or if my memory of it is just wishful thinking, but it was a fun afternoon.
Neil have you thought of writing down your own scores for the contestants and crowning your own champion at the end of series? I think it would be a great idea.
I had a similar issue with pronunciation at a games convention in Vancouver. I had to put words in a grid based on different categories. Has an 'Ah' sound was the clue and potty was the word I couldn't get. It only sounds that way if you're from North America, doesn't work if you're Scottish. Luckily an American on my team bailed me out.
if anything the Guess the Movie challenge was too fair, they've made people guess far more impenetrable and mysterious things - the one where they had to guess the pie fillings and one was just full of marbles comes to mind. I'm not totally sold on everyone and after last season's studio-heavy banter it's hard to feel I've seen much of anyone yet - I reckon this group would've been a disaster if any one of them was playing the Slightly Unwilling Grumpy role that's been varyingly succesful over the years though. Munye getting paired with Sarah feels like an excellent result for both of them, he seemed like a bright guy and team player and she's sharp and great with people,. That alone could absolutely steamroll many previous teams, never mind poor Dara and his wayward kids
My thought process was also to make a channel of some sort to feed the other loo rolls down. But the rule was that you have to stay on your spot, so I would’ve just launched all the rolls over in one throw and then shuffled my way along and down the stairs staying on the spot. 15mins was quite a long time as pointed out in Fern’s go, as she only took 2mins.
I think Alex has mentioned this in the past but I'm sure they originally tried to get 'tokens' for each series. The old man, the ethnic personality, the woman, the cheat (not sure about this one) and the kid; and they just fell into their roles. I like how they've brought this back.
i don't know if it's the use of the word tokens in quotes, or the idea that The Woman and The Ethnic Personality "just fell into their roles," but this comment is a rollercoaster
Here's where that last task gets a bit technical. Yes the mass of a boot at one top corner but as it is all in a upside down basket where all the weight is focused on... So when all is in a basket focused on 1 point does it matter where in the basket you put your boot? I know...
My first thought on the task to throw the toilet paper in the bowl was: 1) stuff as many rolls of toilet paper as I could into my shirt 2) sit down on the round spot 3) try to scoot on the floor and drag the spot down stairs while sitting on it 4) get as close to the toilet as I could while I still have time to throw them into the bowl With my luck either the spot would be firmly fixed to the floor, or I'd break my neck trying to get downstairs.
I love how from the very beginning they put the stars in alphabetical order ( I didn't realize that for a couple of series) . I think that was brillant and puts everyone's ego aside. Although British stars seem to have less of an ego complex anyway.
The 'basket' on the seesaw is triangular so that wherever you place your item, the weight of the item acts through the point of the triangle, so no distance from the fulcrum shenanigans can make a difference. Basic grade 7 applied maths, Dara the science presenter.
The toilet roll task it stated to stay on the spot, the toilet was placed on another spot, it didn't say you couldn't move the toilet and stand on the spot next to it.
Those puns in the film names (jars/jaws, carroty/karate, gone/gun) don't even work in an English accent. Certainly not mine - I don't think I would have made the connections. There was some complaining about that on the Taskmaster podcast.
Only thing I've seen Munya in is Sandman but he was memorable in that and my favourite this episode, seems like a wildcard. Everyone else seems great as well, very excited for the series!!!
Season 1 and they have Frank,, From that day it was kinda the celebs agents were throwing themselves Franks done it.. 5 series in celebs were signed up for it without actually knowing. Getting Frank on S1 ... That runner who called the agent. He;s probably now in production.
The contestant was stuck on the spot, but Alex wasn't. I would have either 1) handed all of the rolls to Alex and asked him to go down to the toilet and put them all in, or 2) got Alex to go down and thrown the rolls to him, so he could have put them in.
