Thank you. As I watch this video what I would want to get out of this is how to find the connectivity path between when one train ends and another one starts
The Ellensburg canyon from Selah to Ellensburg is a blast. I like your trail better I think. The Greenway from Union Gap to Naches in Beautiful. ❤ Never leave this life.
Love this video and this ride! This was my standard Sunday morning ride when I was in Grad School at UW - my one break each week from the grind. You're right, clockwise is best and, funny to say, I swear the cracks in the pavement around Leschi are the same ones I rode through in 1989, my last year there! (Yeah, it's been a while and yeah, I'm old.) The east side might as well be a different world compared to the way the roads were back then - no bike lanes, no shoulders, far fewer cars however. Thanks for the video!
Such an iconic Seattle ride. Over the decades the route has evolved and improved. Fun to see your ride with commentary. Was surprised you didn’t take the Left at 14:05 at the south end of Coulon to get to Houser Way and the Kenworth plant. Much less traffic. Another fun option counter clockwise is through the downtown waterfront and down along the west side of the Duamish Elliot Bay trail, Waterfront, Duamish bikeway, Green River Trail, Lake to Sound Bikeway, Renton, then the normal route up the east side. There are a couple kinks after South Park, but pretty manageable. The route is quite congruent and IMO even safer than the west side section of Lake Washington.
@@CentristRN haha yeah I use Houser way but wanted to show the most standard/signed route! Thanks for all the suggestions. I agree there's so many great trails nearby to make even bigger loops with
I watched the whole thing! You did a good job. I've done this route several times over the past few decades but never as fast as you. You are in really good shape! I would be very lucky to average 14 mph. I agree with your assessments i.e. clock wise is easier to navigate etc. Thanks for posting.
Great video. It's nice to have a gapless video for home workout routines (I'm typing this while walking on a treadmill). Additionally, I'm learning a new route, making mental notes of the turns and surroundings when you're navigating the streets, and also the danger spots (railroad crossings, high speed streets, conflicts with motorists, construction). It sure beats trying to learn a ride from Google Streetview imagery from 5 years ago or constantly stopping to check Google Maps during a ride. This is also documenting the state of bike travel in Seattle for bike bloggers, journalists, urban planners, and historians. It might be cool to do a ride as a livestream where you can respond to questions and comments from the audience in realtime. Probably requires a good LTE connection and OBS Studio running on a phone, a mini PC on the bike rack, or a remote realtime video stream editor at home or in the cloud.
Thanks man. Excited to do many more :) These ones are very "quick" and easy for me to make. I'm sometimes surprised people are willing to watch all the way thru.
This was one of my favorite rides in the 70's. I liked the counter clockwise direction because in fair weather I could end with a bit of a tail wind. Since I was starting from White Center I always had the delightful Boeing Hill kicker at the end.
Kudos. My daughter lives in Wallingford and I bring a bike when I visit. I usually ride the northern Lake Washington loop to I90. Now I can ride the southern portion.
Kudos! This reminds me of Kerry Ward's longform running videos. I did this route clockwise starting at Log Boom Park on Thanksgiving morning - there were a total of three cars moving around in all of downtown Bellevue, it was glorious!
I recently just found your channel. It is very informative and well documented. You have inspired me to try the STP this year. Thank you for the motivation to get out there and roll around.
@@jeffwilcox thanks so much for watching thru. It's always interesting how people ride the same roads in different directions. Can make it feel completely new
Also, the voiceover is better because having to talk and breathe must make pedaling more strenuous plus the little beeps are distracting. Leave having to shout at rude motorists though. ;^)
I90 trail. I would like you to come south to the Inter urban and green river trails. The trails are flat but, beautiful. The Inter urban gets rough before the outlet mall and the rest of the way to 8th st. If you want a longer ride you can continue on the Sumner link and the foothill trail for roughly 100 mile round trip.
Kudos! I have wanted to do this ride for years, but I was afraid of that dangerous section through Juanita. Maybe it will be better after construction next year. Thank you for sharing the experience with us. One comment: When you said that you are "a smaller rider so hills are easier" for you, may I suggest that you may be faster than other riders, but you are working just as hard (or harder)?😀
@@bobg4632 yeah, the climb up is already far improved when I first did it. The descent is... Still as it is times you need to share with cars. Haha thank you. I started from absolutely zero thinking that going at 15mph was impossible so my mindset will always be grounded to those times.
Kudos to you, Hanoch. Nice, inspirational ride. I'll try the Juanita drive/112-118th route. I'm used to riding to Woodinville before heading south. Happy new year.
I was inspired by you and did this route! made the mistake of not taking the full lane in downtown Bellevue and got very aggressively cut off by someone though :c also I took twice the time even though I used an ebike hahaha
I'm really glad to hear you tried it out! Sorry that happened and hope you're all right. Yeah, taking the lane really helps there! Highly recommend it next time haha it's a downhill and cars a full other lane to pass. Good on yah, that sounds like an epic adventure.
I was interested in doing this loop, but seeing the part on Juanita drive just made me go nah. Burke -> Sammamish -> 520 loop is good for me. Can do the crossing at 90 if I want similar distance.
That section of lake washington blvd in renton is terrible. One time I had a driver behind me for a good while cause he was too scared to drive past me in the bike lane, I dont blame him. That bike lane is the biggest barrier to me going to bellevue. Like I wanna check T&T out but then im reminded i have to use that stretch., those green shards I think are the paint breaking. Its not really paint its more like a plastic that is placed on the road. Thermoplastic I think its called.
Oh also the section of cycletrack that is bumpy in Renton along Logan ave you went through, im reminded I need to report that to the city, the really bad bumps are pavement lifting up from trees that just needs to be sanded down!
Dude. What the heck? I was on board with you (mostly) until you went up Juanita. WHY?! First-timers should take the route further on to the 405 interchange and hop on the Sammamish "river" trail to Redmond. The way you're taking them (which I've done myself plenty of times) is not the best. Bad, bad, bad! :\
@@mattwirkkala I understand your sentiment and yeah I should have made extra notes in the video about the options to extend on the srt for lower traffic stress but this is the "signed" Lake Washington loop and what people usually refer to when they mention it!

Running a 4-way red light with a car waiting, followed by two unsignalled turns. No wonder cars hate us.
