I like how even after getting the good future in stardust speedway, you gotta beat metal sonic in a race with the bad future theme playing, like he's testing you to actually fight for the good future.
The DA Garden theme is very much inspired by 808 State - Pacific 707, which is a famous House music track from 1989. You can hear it clear as day when you play the two back-to-back.
Stardust Speedway is the most famous track from the game, but it’s absolutely deserved imo. Each of the different versions is great in its own way. As a Metal Sonic fan, though, Bad Future is my favourite. It basically became his theme song.

Since this is the JP version she was listening to, the opening theme would have been "You Can Do Anything (Toot Toot Sonic Warrior)" instead of the US track "Sonic Boom." Maybe she'll get to that when she listens to the US OST!
Stardust Speedway's themes get some great remixes in later games. Generations and ESPECIALLY Mania do those tracks justice with the Metal Sonic boss themes.

Here before 6k subs 🧡 Glad you love this soundtrack as much as I do lol!! I totally agree about getting chills at the end of Metallic Madness G mix btw, call and response done well really makes my skin start jumping lmao
Stardust Speedway "B" Mix is iconic for many reasons, the big one being it's use during the race against Metal Sonic who very conveniently first appears in Sonic CD (the US version is very different)
Walking through the halls of my high school with both US and JP soundtracks I slowly downloaded of an FTP site at 28.8K blasting in my discman and terrified anyone would know I was listening to a sonic soundtrack of all things... I now feel vindicated that a non-sonic fan is like "hell yeah this is awesome!"
One thing I really like about Wacky Workbench is that, unlike most of the songs, which feature a walkdown on the pentatonic scale, it walks up the scale, which is actually reminiscent of the level itself because the floors bounce you way up high Also, the past version in particular goes out of its way to convert all of the chords into their major modes, which makes them sound suuuuuper wacky (hah, wacky)
Idk if they werent on the soundtrack but there's also 2 vocal themes part of the Sonic CD JPN soundtrack called "You can do anything" and "Cosmic Eternity"
What I love so much about metallic madness is the urgency. And you can hear the tempo between every time period get slower and slower . I see it representing eggman finally winning. With past being urgent to fix the future as quick as possible. Present being that eggman has took over this area and made it his. And bad future being the slowest showing his confidence and the laughter
Da garden theme was originally a level called dubious depths but got scrapped due to space and memory limitations , the song prob got altered to be what it is currently but it sounded different back in the earlier stages of sonic CD s' development.
@@SonicStuffs Yeah, it's pretty easy when you learn that, along with how to time travel with the bouncy floor. Btw, remember that comment I made about Cosmic Eternity? I'm making the video, just need to get the last three parts done 😅
Stardust Speedway has the best music in both soundtracks, and is perfectly evenly-matched between the two. Both present songs fit the levels perfectly, and yet are so, so different (I came up with the phrase US = Stardust and JP = Speedway all the way back in 2008 in the SonicKAI comment section, though that was on an old account). Same with the bad futures - I love them both equally. The good future is a toss-up for me - I think the Japanese version is beautiful, but it's also kinda boring. The American version is a lot more interesting but it's not as feel-good. As for the boss themes, I don't really like either. The JP version is too silly, and the US version... well, you'll hear it eventually.
@2:28 I agree tbh. The entire OST is pretty good, but Wacky Workbench is my least favorite zone out of this soundtrack + least favorite zone in the game in general
Had to watch this after seeing part 1. Great break down and even I noticed some new instruments and hooks in the music even 30 odd years later. PAL gamers were blessed with the Japanese music on the MegaCD. Though it wasn't licensing that forced a change in the US. They just didn't want what was there and got Spencer Nielsen to create an all new OST (bar the past music's which were done using MegaDrives internal Yamaha so they stayed the same in the US) to very...mixed results (aka no single song is better then it's JP/PAL counterpart) Was very enjoyable watching you vibe to this music that I've been listening to for 31 years. Always something new to discover with video games!
I don't think there were any licensing issues at all with this game, actually. What I think happened was that Sega of America wanted to make their own CD soundtrack but wouldn't bother with changing music of the past games since it was harder to do before CD. Think back to the many TV shows from Japan that got their own soundtracks overseas at the time. I highly recommend checking this game out if you ever get the time. It's one that I keep coming back to. Specifically the Sonic CD 2011 decompilation and its fork called CD Restored, which overhauls the time travel mechanic and restores the cutscenes. Keep in mind that that Restored by default has its own playlist for the soundtrack so you have to set every stage to play JP music if you want to experience the original release. But it really is super fun to play for like 30 minutes or 1 hour and try to get better at. And this game's original JP soundtrack is truly among the most incredible we've been gifted with
Oh and I forgot to mention about the "P" Mix tracks, they're all sequenced for the Mega CD PCM chip (I believe its called). So as you can hear they're made with the same limitations as all video games had before they were distributed on CDs. I think it really adds to how cool this game already is. For some reason people nowadays have been adamant on "restoring" these tracks to not have these limitations so CD Restored comes with that by default, but I don't like it at all, so I deleted all the files it adds for those: R1B.ogg, R3B.ogg, etc I think by doing all of this I'm left with a really incredible game that has a universally important message
You should also listen to the unused PCM loops for these tracks, they give these tracks a cool extra 3 seconds. They were meant to loop back to the beginning of the tracks since there was no sophisticated way to loop the tracks on the technology they had. On youtube you can find the "missing music restoration" which has all the music from this game in the same place
DA Garden/Little Planet is believed to be the present music from the scrapped "R2" zone, supposedly called Dubious Depths. And there is a "G" Mix called "Sonic Stream"
*3 notes play* Battleapple: well this sounds like late 80's, it music definitely has the distinctive sound and vibe that is reminiscent of the late 1980s. The synthesizer-heavy melodies, combined with the upbeat tempo and the characteristic drum machine beats, evoke a sense of nostalgia for that era. It’s almost as if one can picture the neon lights, the fashion trends, and the cultural atmosphere that defined the late '80s. The production style and the overall feel of the track transport listeners back to a time when pop and electronic music were undergoing significant transformations [...]" i'm really impressed by the amount of knowledge that exists, and how knowledgeable people can be
never listened to Sonic CDs OST til I watched this video, wow! Shout out for Guardian Heroes for the Sega Saturn, such an enthralling soundtrack with that made a great game even more fun to play. It has everything .. classical, jazz, rock, funk, trip hop... tunes as catchy as sonics
Great video! If you're considering a mini third video, you should also check 'You Can Do Anything', 'Cosmic Eternity', and 'Sonic Boom (US theme)' As cheesy as the lyrics are, they're still one of my top favorite vocal sonic songs out there
I didn’t have a Sega CD but years ago when I heard how different and how fire the midi tracks were I had to find out more. I eventually just bought the game for its soundtrack alone.
Sonic Mania is another banger of OST. The composer Tee Lopes mentioned that CD was a big influence for composing for Sonic Mania. Standout tracks are Stardust Speedyway. Studiopolis act 1 and 2. Green Hill Zone act 2 (Got a Palmtree Panic vibe) Press Garden act 2. Mirage Saloon. Super Sonic theme (Glimmering Gift - Super Transformation) Egg Reverie theme.

Reminded me why I love this OST so much; I definitely would be down with you checking out other Sonic game soundtracks or just more game music in general. I personally recommend the work of Hideki Naganuma, he did stuff like the osts for Jet Set Radio and Sonic Rush.
Was nodding along to tgese bangers for the entire video lol Awesome video!
Here before 6k subs 🧡 Glad you love this soundtrack as much as I do lol!! I totally agree about getting chills at the end of Metallic Madness G mix btw, call and response done well really makes my skin start jumping lmao
I love your videos so much!
Thank you for being a positive voice, I feel like that’s so rare these days.
I am not a big sonic fan, so I was listening this for the first time too. Bangers.
Stardust Speedway "B" Mix is iconic for many reasons, the big one being it's use during the race against Metal Sonic who very conveniently first appears in Sonic CD (the US version is very different)
Love your channel! Analyzing and vibing to Sonic music is 10/10 :)
You put my favorite one for the outro :D
One thing I really like about Wacky Workbench is that, unlike most of the songs, which feature a walkdown on the pentatonic scale, it walks up the scale, which is actually reminiscent of the level itself because the floors bounce you way up high
Also, the past version in particular goes out of its way to convert all of the chords into their major modes, which makes them sound suuuuuper wacky (hah, wacky)
Okay lady, i wanna ask, why did you cut this specific part of the song 8:47, it's a certified banger
You should check out the Streets of rage 1 and 2 soundtrack, they are iconic.
Definitely
Idk if they werent on the soundtrack but there's also 2 vocal themes part of the Sonic CD JPN soundtrack called "You can do anything" and "Cosmic Eternity"
What I love so much about metallic madness is the urgency. And you can hear the tempo between every time period get slower and slower . I see it representing eggman finally winning.
With past being urgent to fix the future as quick as possible. Present being that eggman has took over this area and made it his. And bad future being the slowest showing his confidence and the laughter
Da garden theme was originally a level called dubious depths but got scrapped due to space and memory limitations , the song prob got altered to be what it is currently but it sounded different back in the earlier stages of sonic CD s' development.
every cd fan hates wacky workbench , They just play it to hear the music
@@bardhi09 the entire level can be skipped once you reach to the top on the very beginning. Your welcome :)
*every cd fan who didn't enter the "crushers" and openings in the walls yet
@@RandomHomoSapiens easy right? 😆
@@SonicStuffs Yeah, it's pretty easy when you learn that, along with how to time travel with the bouncy floor.
Btw, remember that comment I made about Cosmic Eternity? I'm making the video, just need to get the last three parts done 😅
@@RandomHomoSapiens oh I mean you can skip the entire act 2 of mm
But yeah that too for the time travel. And ohhhh sounds good! I can't wait to watch!
Metallic madness bad future is absolute 🔥🔥🔥 the best theme in the game
It’s good but not my favorite.
I think it's incredible Sonic franchise has been able to almost maintain the same musical identity all this time.
The edits of these videos are so GOOD!! 😭
I’m definitely gonna check out your channel some more! ❤
Glad you’re enjoying!!
Suscribed, I love your reactions listening the tracks.Waiting for more Sonic OST videos.
They just didn't want what was there and got Spencer Nielsen to create an all new OST (bar the past music's which were done using MegaDrives internal Yamaha so they stayed the same in the US) to very...mixed results (aka no single song is better then it's JP/PAL counterpart)
Was very enjoyable watching you vibe to this music that I've been listening to for 31 years.
For some reason people nowadays have been adamant on "restoring" these tracks to not have these limitations so CD Restored comes with that by default, but I don't like it at all, so I deleted all the files it adds for those: R1B.ogg, R3B.ogg, etc
I think by doing all of this I'm left with a really incredible game that has a universally important message
And there is a "G" Mix called "Sonic Stream"
sonic always have such amazing osts also I just got you channal reccommended and you vids seems amazing
Get funky! Be funky! Stay funky and hustle hustle!
*3 notes play*
Battleapple: well this sounds like late 80's, it music definitely has the distinctive sound and vibe that is reminiscent of the late 1980s. The synthesizer-heavy melodies, combined with the upbeat tempo and the characteristic drum machine beats, evoke a sense of nostalgia for that era. It’s almost as if one can picture the neon lights, the fashion trends, and the cultural atmosphere that defined the late '80s. The production style and the overall feel of the track transport listeners back to a time when pop and electronic music were undergoing significant transformations [...]"
i'm really impressed by the amount of knowledge that exists, and how knowledgeable people can be
15:30 All your Thomson Gazelle be like: “😡”
Also, great video :) Please do the intro and ending themes for JP and US as well
"HAVE A KID
HERE'S YOUR KID
HAVE A KID
LET'S HUSTLE HUSTLE"
The music of DA Garden is from a deleted level called Dubious depths
never listened to Sonic CDs OST til I watched this video, wow!
Shout out for Guardian Heroes for the Sega Saturn, such an enthralling soundtrack with that made a great game even more fun to play. It has everything .. classical, jazz, rock, funk, trip hop... tunes as catchy as sonics
Great video! If you're considering a mini third video, you should also check 'You Can Do Anything', 'Cosmic Eternity', and 'Sonic Boom (US theme)'
As cheesy as the lyrics are, they're still one of my top favorite vocal sonic songs out there
Collision Chaos Good Future, Quartz Quadrant Present, and Stardust Speedway Present are my favorites of Sonic CD.
Both ost’s are God-Tier. So grateful for both.
I didn’t have a Sega CD but years ago when I heard how different and how fire the midi tracks were I had to find out more. I eventually just bought the game for its soundtrack alone.
20:49 it is in fact the final boss music 💥
Sonic Mania is another banger of OST. The composer Tee Lopes mentioned that CD was a big influence for composing for Sonic Mania. Standout tracks are Stardust Speedyway. Studiopolis act 1 and 2. Green Hill Zone act 2 (Got a Palmtree Panic vibe) Press Garden act 2. Mirage Saloon. Super Sonic theme (Glimmering Gift - Super Transformation)
Egg Reverie theme.
