It's been a while eh folks! Thanks for being patient :) Covid really has us busy on all fronts. If you have been following us on socials you can see that the Electras are flying all over the country and we are doing everything we can to keep up with cargo demands. Some "big" things coming in 2022. I have been spending the last 6 months working on something major for Buffalo which I'll be sharing very soon. Plane Savers Update: Mike Jackman has made some amazing Metalwork progress on the Fokker Dr.1 and the wood for the wings is coming together in Peters shop in Toronto. So when we can get together we can finally get back to saving the Little Fokker. My father's Fox Moth is on hold due to the time resources going towards keeping the regular fleet flying during this craziness. Nothing is canceled just on hold while the world falls apart lol. All things considered, we are doing alright and I hope you are too!
Nice to hear from you again :) Greetings from a German train driver (or engineer in the US and Canada I guess) who just came with a freight train down from the freezing cold Austrian alps which is probably still very warm by your standards in Yellowknife :)
Glad to see another C-46 still flying, I'm with Warriors and Warbirds down in Charlotte North Carolina, we thought we guys werer done flying your 46's a while ago. I'm currently 19 and training on "Tinker Belle" along with maybe 4 to 5 others my age. I have to say that in my time working with the C046 it is certainly one the most wonderful and difficult aircraft to work with. I certainly look forward to a future of working with this aircraft.
Nothing beats the sound of a multi radial engine aircraft on a take-off roll. In the USAF, I was privileged to work on both C-47's and EC-121D Connies.
Absolutely love it !! The c-46 is such an iconic aircraft; I also thought of these planes being grounded someday because nobody left knows how to fly them. Sure hope that doesn't happen. If COVID can ever leave us alone, I plan to travel north and take some shots for my collection. Got DC-3's but need some C-46. Great one Mikey, still can't get over passing by YHU and no DC-3 !!
Thanks for another great video, Mikey! There's just something about these old warbirds that resonates with me. Sure, modern aircraft are great and all, but they just don't feel like they have any "soul," if that makes any sense. When I look at the C-46, DC-3 and the like, they just feel "right." Sometimes when I hear one of these old planes sputter to life, it makes me teary eyed, and I'm not sure why. There's just SOMETHING about them. You're so incredibly lucky to be around them every day - I hope you never stop feeling the magic that comes from these beauties!
A video from Mikey!!! Thank heavens above!!! The world must be finally about to return to normal! Which means one of these days I will get to make a pilgrimage to the Buffalo Hangar and see all those fantastic planes, and the people that keep them flying. This humble Cessna driver salutes you!
Glad to see you still there. It`s amazing that these beautiful old workhorses still perform commercial operations. I just got my first job and type rating and I hope there is enough time to fly both DC-3 and C-46 in future. Cheers from Russia
Maybe if there is demand. The Vulcan bomber stopped being able to be flown in the UK because the companies didn't have engineers to maintain it. But as these are simpler aircraft, then they can be maintained as long as people are interested in doing it. If they work well in places like NWT, and parts can be got then maybe people will be trained to maintain them.
Welcome back to UA-cam! In a world gone mad it is most refreshing to know that Buffalo Airways is alive, well and thriving. Great video Mikey; The C-46 is truly impressive, what a sound!
Dang this just makes my day. That sound is music in the air. Brings back 50 year old memories of working nights for Zantop and then Universal airlines. Still the sound, may it never end. Great video… more, more, more
Can Millennials fly a C-46? Yes, of course. The principles of flying and good airmanship are constant, regardless of the aircraft type; it just takes training to learn the systems and how the aircraft behaves in all areas of flight.
The C-46 is a great load carrying airplane. I asked an Air Force pilot , in 1969, what was the airplane he felt the safest flying in. He responded the C-46.
The late Arizona Senator, Barry Goldwater flew the C-46 over the Hump, the Himalayas to supply China during WWII. If they lost an engine, they were going to crash.
Beautiful really. People at ease with each other, supporting each other, doing real work.....and not a token effort or HR department in sight. Love it.
GREAT to see ya back. All things considered, Buffalo seems to be taking care of business. This flooded my mind with Montreal and your darling DC3. How I long for the day to fill a sea can again>>> LOLOL I look forward to the day we all get to see this type of aviation IN PERSON. Thank you for getting this out.All the best to you,Stella and everyone at Buffalo.
I moved over to the UK I never forget hearing the sound of the Lancaster's and Wellingtons flying over during a fly by over Derby in 2009 ,, something about these old birds when you hear them , I always wonder with Buffalo planes about metal fatigue I hear all the time with the newer commercial jets of today, but these old girls are still working still filling a purpose,
I fully understand the "First time you see it, you're not sure if you like it" vibe that the C-46 gives. The first time I saw it on the first episode of "Ice Pilots", I was like "Good gosh, that thing's ugly." It's grown on me, though, and I LOVE the sound it makes (even more than the DC-3, and I'm not sure why).
Love the C-46, always a treat to see it parked on tarmac in hay river

Fantastic, Mikey! I could feel the enthusiasm for the old girl reverberate through this video. The passion, hard work and the spirit of the crew is telling. Keep up the great work all of you at Buffalo.
Oh that sweet sound of power, It has been 50 years since I worked my way thru college . Night work pushing racks of radiators up the hill in the beast. First Zantop then Universal airlines for the quick trip to Detroit from Buffalo/ Niagara Falls. Those birds could fly in any weather if given enough oil. A pilot once told me not to worry about the drips and leaks, worry if there are none. Now back to watch the video again just for the sound and to remember that exhaust flame at takeoff power. More Please.
Good on ya guys, fantastic to see these planes still getting it done. Love the fact that there are young aviators still interested in keeping them in the air.
Hi, I love the C-46. My mom was employed at Curtis-Wright during WW2. Started as riveter and worked up to QC checking soldering joints on wiring. Used a ohms meter and give it a good tug.
I reckon there's enough old school kids out there looking for an opportunity to fly piston pounders to keep her crewed for decades yet and with the opportunities you guys create and the constant avionics upgrades it shouldnt be too hard to get em in, I love that they start as ground crew too, makes them humble and proves they have what it takes.
Great to see you back on YT, Mikey. I've definitely missed you and your creative content. But, you brought it home with this great video! Well done. It definitely was moving for me. Looking forward to the next one. Thanks!

I'm a generation X (17) and i am from Northern California. I wanna fly for the Navy or Marines, but once i'm done with that i want to come to Yellowknife and fly the DC3 or C46. Such a great video Mikey! Funny I was just rewatching Ice Pilots season 1 not an hour ago. Glad everyone is well and look forward to more content soon!
Wow! A really nice. detailed report on The C-46 Commando and who's flying them right now. Loved it! I also loved the 'Ice Pilots! series. You're doing great work, Mikey, I'm sure Dad is proud f you!
Wow Mikey, what a way to start my day watching this brilliant video. Just re-filled my bowl with more cereals and I'm gonna watch it again. Glad to hear things are still going good for all of you out there. Yes I hope the 46 is still working decades from now. Have to find a way to legally salvage and pay for the ones in S.America to come up. There's still IBX in Gimli as far as I know.
Glad to se you back. My R-2800time is in a DC-6B airtanker (51 macAvia Sis-q now the cocpit is on a resturant in Fairbanks.) love the sound of the 2800's.

"Can 40-YEAR-OLDS FLY THIS??"
That's how stupid this title is.
There will always be pilots to train and fly. My question is there enough young engineers out there to maintain them?
My dad specialized in C131s and I got the privilege with working on one for a year and a half :)
