I don’t know how you’re going to top this series, Noraly. The majesty of our world is perfectly illustrated in your travels through Africa thus far. Every turn provides a new learning experience. Your pre-trip off road training back home has paid off tremendously! It has given you the tools to really explore this amazing land. It’s pronounced “bay oh bab”. As a geologist, you’d be interested to learn that the very early geologists in Southern Africa were able to determine the composition of the underlying soil by inspecting the termite mounds. I believe that a few of the very large diamond mines in Botswana were found when they saw kimberlite in the termite mounds.
This geologist finds that fascinating... and now that I think of it, I believe I've actually heard of a few gems being found in termite mounds. I once ran into them in Bolivia.... but nothing of note in those mounds.
This brings back so many memories. I live in Cape Town and have been to 95% of the places you have visited in South Africa and I took my family to Namibia 2010. We followed 95% the same route as you to Epupa Falls. I discovered your channel half way through your visit in South Africa. I then restarted Season 5 from Episode 1 and caught up. Then I started with Season 1. Your videos are absolutely fantastic. Stunning camera work, narration and editing. So envious of your amazing adventures. Love your positive approach to every situation. I have never been to Africa but I had the same feeling when coming back from various places in Asia. I guess it's normal to start seeing the flaws of your own society if you come in touch with other cultures. We can all learn from each other and introduc the good of others to remove our own bad.

I love green lush rolling hills, etc. But I have spent many years in the desert. The desert has it's own beauty and one that can never be equaled. It is a beauty that is felt rather than seen. Noraly. Every one of these recent videos have increased my interest in this fascinating country. It is unfortunate that the nomadic peoples have had to drastically alter their lives and lifestyle due to long term drought, no doubt due, at least partially to climate change. Thx Mr B&D. In Afrikaans (South African Dutch) it is "Mo^re". And in True Dutch it is "Morgen". In Xhosa (Mr Mandela's native language) it is "Molo". So a person van see how languages influence one another. The Zulu's who had limited contact with Europeans have nothing like "Mor..." 4 "morning"

It included the custom handshake and then I recall the main words used as being ‘Molo!’ followed by the response ‘Nawa!, imbiritu’ , Eh naanga! ….and so the conversation developed. Excuse the spelling and the dialogue.This is all I recall from a nearly forgotten memory from way back in the 1960’s which today I still find amazing in that it reaffirms the bonds between two or more people from the same tribe living & working so far from their homes in Northern Namibia. Love that country! As kids we could earn £5 for every diamond we found out in the desert.Guess we and my buddies went after school each day….!

So nice to see that side of Namibia again...we were there in 2019. I see you are staying at Camp Cornie tonight...very nice. A few years ago before that built that nice gravel road it was really a mission to get from Ruacana to Epupa. And o yes....Noraly.....I see a namesake (well surnamewise) ..Tatjana Schoenmaker wins gold at the Olympics for South Africa and set a new world record!
I (a 69 year old man from Sweden) have been following your adventures from season 1 (binge watched that one!), onwards with increasing awe! Your travel logs are becoming just as good as a much more expensive TV travel series! Very well done! The drone shots give an outstanding overview of the spectacular landscapes and your geological "lessons" are just on point! On top of that you show us parts of the world that are not commonly shown otherwise. Oh, and compared between season 1 and now your accent has cleraly changed from Dutch to almost South African. That shows your ability to adapt to local circumstances, good on you. Have you had a chance to meet the Himba tribe off camera? They seem to be a very friendly and hospitable tribe from the small snippets shown on YT. Keep up the very good work and travel safely!

She filmed those ladies for clicks then rode off as all westerners always do. Those are people not wildebeests in Serengeti. Only person I know who put an effort into knowing those people is that guy from Best Ever Food Review Show. Yeah. A food channel does a better job in knowing a people than these "travel" channels

Watching the burrows run reminded me of years ago when a pony that was kept in a pasture alone had made its escape. It ran beside me for about 100 yards before stopping. I sometimes wonder if the animals that run as you approach are entertaining themselves instead of running in fear. Just a thought. Thanks for always finding beauty when most don’t. Safe travels.
Yes here in Thailand I get chased by dogs while out cycling, and yes some just run beside me not showing any aggression, and like the donkeys maybe enjoy the run.

I'm glad you caught that guy at the petrol station before he could put diesel in your tank! In the late, Neil Peart's book, "Ghost Rider" he's traveling by motorcycle across Canada and someone somewhere accidently put diesel in his BMW GS. I can't remember all the details, but I remember him spending a fair amount of time and money getting the problem corrected before he could go on. Safe travels.
I've seen it done a couple of times. Diesel will not harm a gasoline engine as a matter of fact if it's a 50/50 mixture the engine will still run albeit very poorly. If you happen to fill a Diesel engine with gasoline then you got problems and could permanently damage the engine. I read a couple of Neil Peart's book and he was definitely a true Motorcyclist like Itchy.
I never get bored or tired of Noraly's videos they could be one hour long and I'd say the same thing, although making them that long is time intensive I know so I am not complaining. Knowing there were crocs around 15 plus feet long would not make for a good night's sleep in a tent for myself.

Form when I was a kid at High School I have always held the Baobab tree in high regard. I then read Wilfred Thesiger later on and learned about the Himba tribes and consider them extremely proud, beautiful and peaceful, Incidently, if you look at the structure of the termite mounds and their cooling mechanisms, it has been copied and used in the eastgate centre in Zimbabwe. Thanks Noraly for another great video!

They are magnificent if the Kunene is in full flood. Unfortunately the flow is controlled by the Angolan's who have a dam just on their side of the border by Ruacana. Maybe Noraly will show where the Ruacana falls are supposed to be. (They are most of the year dry due to the dam😢.)
Dont take a chance with fuel in those remote areas of Namibia, rather keep your tank and fuel bags full at all times, you definitely dont want to run out in that desolate area.
That is the best advise anyone can give Noraly. I was going to say the same thing. You also have to maybe keep filter nearby, it's easy to pickup dirty fuel.
Through your travel and through your eyes we could see this beautiful planet that we live in and the beautiful people of different regions of the world. Wish we don't destroy it any further. Wonderful videos and your wonderful smile. Stay safe
The baobab tree is also known as the "kremetart boom" (cream of tartar tree) in Afrikaans as the pulp, dry, tastes just like cream of tartar. I've tried it and it is just like that, a little tart, great vitamin C, etc etc. A superfood!

Lala palms and Boabab - or "kremertart" as we call it in Afrikaans. The tree is not dead. It is very much alive, but it is now winter.

Thx Mr B&D. In Afrikaans (South African Dutch) it is "Mo^re". And in True Dutch it is "Morgen". In Xhosa (Mr Mandela's native language) it is "Molo". So a person van see how languages influence one another. The Zulu's who had limited contact with Europeans have nothing like "Mor..." 4 "morning"
@@davidvanniekerk356 As a kid at OM (Oranjemund), I was always eavesdropping on the very, very courteous greeting ritual two Ovambo men used when they met up on any street. It included the custom handshake and then I recall the main words used as being ‘Molo!’ followed by the response ‘Nawa!, imbiritu’ , Eh naanga! ….and so the conversation developed. Excuse the spelling and the dialogue.This is all I recall from a nearly forgotten memory from way back in the 1960’s which today I still find amazing in that it reaffirms the bonds between two or more people from the same tribe living & working so far from their homes in Northern Namibia. Love that country! As kids we could earn £5 for every diamond we found out in the desert.Guess we and my buddies went after school each day….!

I (a 69 year old man from Sweden) have been following your adventures from season 1 (binge watched that one!), onwards with increasing awe! Your travel logs are becoming just as good as a much more expensive TV travel series! Very well done! The drone shots give an outstanding overview of the spectacular landscapes and your geological "lessons" are just on point!
On top of that you show us parts of the world that are not commonly shown otherwise. Oh, and compared between season 1 and now your accent has cleraly changed from Dutch to almost South African. That shows your ability to adapt to local circumstances, good on you.
Have you had a chance to meet the Himba tribe off camera? They seem to be a very friendly and hospitable tribe from the small snippets shown on YT.

It's always great to see you interacting with locals and those Himba gals are just lovely. At the ending drone shot, I was expecting to see some crazy crocodile leap out of the river to try and eat the drone.
She filmed those ladies for clicks then rode off as all westerners always do. Those are people not wildebeests in Serengeti. Only person I know who put an effort into knowing those people is that guy from Best Ever Food Review Show. Yeah. A food channel does a better job in knowing a people than these "travel" channels

Just film a bunch of kids in torn clothes on the side of the road and keep moving. Your point of view is petty anyways. There's no way you'd understand my concern. We don't have basements here and people in Africa have to actually work for a living because most of us don't have inherited wealth to fall back to when wealth in subscriber numbers doesn't work out. Watching the burrows run reminded me of years ago when a pony that was kept in a pasture alone had made its escape. It ran beside me for about 100 yards before stopping. I sometimes wonder if the animals that run as you approach are entertaining themselves instead of running in fear. Just a thought.

Yes here in Thailand I get chased by dogs while out cycling, and yes some just run beside me not showing any aggression, and like the donkeys maybe enjoy the run.

I'm glad you caught that guy at the petrol station before he could put diesel in your tank! In the late, Neil Peart's book, "Ghost Rider" he's traveling by motorcycle across Canada and someone somewhere accidently put diesel in his BMW GS. I can't remember all the details, but I remember him spending a fair amount of time and money getting the problem corrected before he could go on. Safe travels.

I've seen it done a couple of times. Diesel will not harm a gasoline engine as a matter of fact if it's a 50/50 mixture the engine will still run albeit very poorly. If you happen to fill a Diesel engine with gasoline then you got problems and could permanently damage the engine. I read a couple of Neil Peart's book and he was definitely a true Motorcyclist like Itchy.
You'd think he'd have known better, Neil could just have siphoned most of it out and refilled with petrol - job done!
I never get bored or tired of Noraly's videos they could be one hour long and I'd say the same thing, although making them that long is time intensive I know so I am not complaining. Knowing there were crocs around 15 plus feet long would not make for a good night's sleep in a tent for myself.

Form when I was a kid at High School I have always held the Baobab tree in high regard. I then read Wilfred Thesiger later on and learned about the Himba tribes and consider them extremely proud, beautiful and peaceful, Incidently, if you look at the structure of the termite mounds and their cooling mechanisms, it has been copied and used in the eastgate centre in Zimbabwe.

17:44 that has to be the most unique waterfalls I've ever seen where it's a thin gorge.
They are magnificent if the Kunene is in full flood. Unfortunately the flow is controlled by the Angolan's who have a dam just on their side of the border by Ruacana. Maybe Noraly will show where the Ruacana falls are supposed to be. (They are most of the year dry due to the dam😢.)

Dont take a chance with fuel in those remote areas of Namibia, rather keep your tank and fuel bags full at all times, you definitely dont want to run out in that desolate area.
That is the best advise anyone can give Noraly. I was going to say the same thing. You also have to maybe keep filter nearby, it's easy to pickup dirty fuel.

The baobab tree is also known as the "kremetart boom" (cream of tartar tree) in Afrikaans as the pulp, dry, tastes just like cream of tartar. I've tried it and it is just like that, a little tart, great vitamin C, etc etc. A superfood!
