I think people don’t understand how you get used to and adapt to particular circumstances. If you suddenly didn’t have that hand, you would have to relearn a new way of doing things because something significant has changed. That’s why disabling events are often hard for people. It’s not because you can’t function but instead you are suddenly relearning things you’ve gotten so used to doing in your usual way
I'm guessing some people don't realize that body parts are only usually amputated when they pose an issue for the person (such as pain, infection, etc). Why would someone amputate a limb that just wasn't "working"? I don't understand why someone would even ask that.
I think they might see it as more of a hindrance to moving easily. Or they've had a pet or know of pets who have had limbs amputated for getting in the way. Like when you see dogs born with a non functional back leg and vets remove them because it would be easier for the animal to walk if it were tripedal.
NEVER get a body part amputated due to paralysis because you WILL get Phantom Pain, several revision surgeries, prosthetics that don't even compare to what a real hand or even prosthetics for legs DON'T have ankle joints.
I know some people that have opted to amputate because they couldn't control where said paralyzed limb went like it would just kinda dangle/swing etc. I left another comment that I hope nobody misinterprets bc I genuinely mean the best (I was saying I could see where some people have the question because I know people who have chosen to do so but I also see and fully understand how weird it is to ask someone that when it's their life, body, and choice.) anyway I know some people who have dealt with all of this because the paralysis caused it to be very limp and they worded it as in the way so in my mind I see where some people question it but there's so many different variables to it that everyone with paralysis will have a different experience so if they aren't already saying "as a paralyzed person I'm wanting to amputate" then don't bring it up if they aren't even if you're curious maybe just ask them their experience or how their life has changed instead of going as far as why not chop it off? She has adapted so well as she shows in videos and in her case it would not help most likely and just bring all of the issues you listed but in others they may actually have an easier time amputating so it's just weird in general to basically suggest?? amputation. @@jaidynelder No, I understand where you're coming from entirely. Disabled needs vary really greatly between all of us, and being in a situation where you can be harmed by/have a reduced quality of life because of a non-functional limb is absolutely a reason to choose to amputate. I'm mostly talking about the absolute out of pocket insanity of just asking someone why they didn't go through a major, dangerous surgery to cut off a healthy limb. I once complained about the chronic pain in my legs and someone suggested amputation casually. It's so wild that people think it's okay to say that to people. That said, limpness in a limb is not a common reason to amputate, even if you can't control it. Why would someone say that?! Just because someone's limbs are not working exactly as it usually does, they should have it removed?! WHAT IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE!
It is a totally uncalled for question, but I assume it is from people who have heard stories about people with certain specific conditions whose quality of life improved with amputation. Certain bone cancers, a few very specific conditions where an extremity has been damaged in a way that makes it non-functional or in consistently severe pain (in a way that amputation woukd improve), and I know of at least one person on YT who chose to amputate part of their arm because the hand was paralyzed but they had full upper limb and shoulder functionality and they had a higher quality of life without the hand/wrist. It is still much rarer to have better functionality after an amputation than not. A family member had multiple surgeries on their right leg and decided to have them amputate because the pins and rods meant to stavilize their leg were causing many infections that almost killed them. They had the possibility of saving the leg but it would have meant many more surgeries and they likely would have severely damaged their kidneys and liver. The fact that you had taken the time to respond to so many questions that you really don't need to. And you're doing it with such grace & is so commendable, beautiful, I thank you for taking the time to educate so many people need to be educated. I just wish ppl were caring about the questions that might say so comfortably without any consideration. And how their questions may seem if they were in that person's shoes. I only say this because I feel I know how it is having been on the receiving end myself. When people come out with such outrageous q's and comments, sometimes even recommendations that they might think are helpful without you've been taking the time to know the person. 😢
People who ask that sort of question must not know anything about the reality of amputation. Phantom pain, intensive healing, balance issues, and so many other symptoms can be caused by amputation, thus why it is certainly not considered lightly.
Your so pretty my sister can’t move her left either neither her left side and you inspire her so much so thank you for making this content you really make her day and mine ❤
Hey! Its my left side too. Not totally paralyzed but loss of function and range of motion. I just found this channel and it helps me too to see someone with similar issues.
Cutting a hand off is an extreme choice. Its going to hurt, cost a lot and there could be complications. Even if it was totally useless, why cut it off?
What an interesting and kind answer to a terrible question! 😂 I just really hope it’s children asking that question because it’s so unthinking. I don’t mean to be rude or anything. I just don’t get how anyone (past childhood) could possibly wonder why people don’t amputate partially paralyzed body parts? I’ve seen other disabled creators asked the same thing in just as silly of circumstances too! I genuinely don’t get the lack of critical thinking skills necessary for this question from an adult. It just comes across as the person just not having put any actual consideration into the question, which I think is actually very inconsiderate. It’s like they forget disabled people are just people, or something. I don’t think I could be so patient in my answer, personally. 😅
The demonstration was very effective and you answered the question very graciously (which you didn't have to, but it was nice that you did). Maybe the person was thinking of pets? When a cat or dog has a paralyzed limb it's often removed. Here's the difference: dogs and cats are quadrupeds and mainly use their limbs to walk, so a paralyzed limb can get get in the way or injured without them realizing, which can cause a lot of problems. Humans have many mobility aids and the creativity to adapt to what their body is able to do. It's completely different.
I commend you for your strength impatience with certain people who asked intolerable moronic idiotic questions your hand is still useful to you and I see you're doing very well with it and what you have don't worry about what these people are saying they're just ignorant but thank you for teaching us and not that you had to explain but thank you for explaining that you do get use out of your left hand is still useful I pray that your condition gets better😊
It's wild that people ask you that. 🤯 I just found your channel and have enjoyed watching your videos. Thanks for sharing and being so gracious in answering questions! 🤟
This is such a wild and out of pocket question. To the people asking this: Not everything needs to be thrown away just because it doesn’t work. Think about if you were to chuck everything in your life in the trash because it stopped working. Some things can be fixed, and others can be adapted to work in another way or even to suit the original purpose. Also, even if she didn’t use that hand, what would be the point of amputating other than scoring some outrageously high medical bills? You always have to look at things with at least some perspective.
Wow! Apart from anything else, an amputation is a pretty major thing that causes as many issues as it solves for most people. It's not something anyone would consider unless what they had to gain (in reducing the suffering or danger to health/life the body part was causing) very much outweighed the extra struggles that a lot of amputees have. It's definitely not as simple as 'we cut this limb off, give you a prosthetic limb, and now you are fully functional', which is what a lot of people think the case is. I'd recommend that the people asking this watch some educators who have prosthetic limbs to learn more about how much that would only create a different set of struggles and needs rather than solving anything!
As someone with mental disorders, the way you use your hand is a lot like how I use certain parts of my brain. I have no control over it and it just kinda does its own thing unless I can come up with a compatible activity for it
What an outlandish and insensitive question!!! She explains why she hasn't done this in the video. Even so, if nothing else, perhaps she feels better seeing her hand rather than a stump.
Amputation is a personal choice, if your life isn't in danger. Some don't want to go through unnecessary procedures, some want to end pain or other problems. For some patients it makes more sense then for others. But it is not an easy way out. Still glad people don't see amputee as "weird" anymore and that we are getting more open about disabilities, but we definitely need to talk about how to ask those questions 😅
My brother has one hand thats basically bent permanently at the wrist, but he can use it to hold down a notebook or binder, its not useless, some people 🙄
Why go through an unnecessary and expensive surgery with risks attached to it both during and after the procedure when the hand doesn't cause any issues, or is (like in your case) still useful?
although it was a wild question, some people js don’t understand or haven’t been taught much Abt that stuff so it’s really great to see u educating people and helping them understand more Abt ur disability ❤
I've been recommended a few of your videos today and I love how informative they are and you seem like an incredibly sweet human being! But my biggest takeaway has been that your nails are always absolutely stunning! Beautiful, goals manicures 24/7 💅 ❤️
I had stroke my left hand was effected I’m getting used to using it as stablizer as well I guess we just figure a way to do everything loveyour videos ❤
Also like real talk, how many abled body people really use their non-dominant hand for much? Cause like I know mine is relatively useless for most things 😂
Just because a bodypart isn't used in a normal fashion, doens't mean it doens't serve a purpose. Women who are infertile don't have their uterus removed unless there's no other option for health reasons. The empty space left means that all the other organs falls in to fill that void and mightstop functioning since they'er at an awkward angle or squashed by the other organs. Deaf people won't remove their ears or mute people won't sow their mouth shut. Should a quadraplegic remove everything neck down? I hope people making such comments will read these comments and think one more time about the implications of such a question. People are amazing when it comes to adapting to different situations. A friend of mine had to amputate her right arm (she's right handed) after an accident. She works, drives her car, brushes her teeth and writes with a pen just fine. It took a bit of effort to teach her left hand to do most of those tasks instead. But it's not impossible.
I am no expert on this but I feel like even if you have no use for a body part, as long as it’s not a nuisance it really does not make sense to amputate. Amputation often has a lot of health complications associated with it as seen on Footless Joe’s channel. ST, I think you are doing a great job at educating people. Let’s keep in mind that some of the people on here are just kids.
This is an answer to the question: how inventive and resourceful are you?! Not: how do you justify keeping a hand that can't move instead of needlessly wounding yourself by amputating? And by the way, you are impressive and strong!
"Why don't you cut off the useless limb?" 🙄 There's ignorance, and then there's just plain rude. The entitlement and audacity of that question . . . Just wow.
People really have lost common sense and common courtesy, like just because you don't have strength in your left hand doesn't mean it's harming you by remaining with you! It would be different if you'd mentioned it was a dying limb and caused you to get ill or is farming other healthy parts of your body, but even then it's no one's business but yours what changes occur or don't occur to YOUR body. And love the cute headband! Looks so fuzzy!
This is just so CRAZY!!! I was born with cerebral palsy (left side effect. I rode a bike with one leg, roller skated, had a baby(natural), I drive, retired 30yrs from Library. I use my left hand as a helper hand👏🙌 Who ever made that ludicrous comment. Immobilez one hand for one day. My life is good. I wouldn'tchange a thing!!🎉
That's super clever with the left hand uses! But like, have they heard of phantom pain? Like, amputees get quite rough drawbacks to being amputated. Like being itchy but the spot is just gone, being in a lot of pain that nothing can help.
what an insane question. my mom is losing use of her left hand due to MS and is learning new PT strategies so that she can still use it in some capacity like this, but even if she wasn't it never would have crossed my mind that she should CUT IT OFF??? amputation is for when you're in danger of something bad spreading to the rest of the body, or the extremity causes severe pain... there's no reason to do it to a part that's just not talking to the nervous system anymore. do these commenters also ask blind people why they don't get their eyes removed???
It’s so crazy that anyone would think amputating a whole limb would be easier than just leaving it as is. Amputations require so many surgeries and cost a lot of money.
Not to mention the risks, pain, and cost of having a medically unnecessary surgery like that. And the risk of developing phantom limb sensations like itching and pain that can’t be helped. I’m so glad the ignorance doesn’t bring you down!
Weird question either way like I wouldn't want NOTHING there instead??? 😅 you're sweet for answering nicely to some people who were probably just trolling. Killin em with kindness fr
My brother couldn’t fully utilize his right hand, similar to your situation. But he sure did use it for similar situations. He used it to stabilize video game controllers too. So it’s wild to hear someone would ask that question.
Your left hand still has sensation, right? That's really useful when it comes to stabilizing things. Even if you can't move it, you have another source of sensory information to let you feel what's happening and make adjustments. Prosthetics can't do that.
that question is WILD, even if you didn’t use that hand... why would you amputate it...? like...?

I have a dodgy toe.. the knuckle couldn't be repaired over the years it's caused occasional pain and issues.. 35 years on.. its still attached... no need to amputate anything, unless it's painful and in the way. Your hand does great.. no itchy imaginary hand issues to worry about.. perfectly good for you ❤❤
I love your skincare headband ❤
Seriously, amputation is a surgery that is not taken lightly! People who suggest amputation have no clue! Bless you for adapting so well and for your wonderful outlook.
You are amazing. Even though people say dumb shit to you, you are still able to be rational and explain what it is like to you. I really admire your strength and behaviour. I wish a lot of people were even a tiny bit like that
The fact that you had taken the time to respond to so many questions that you really don't need to.
I have a purple version of that headband, and a plain pink one!!! Love them!!!!
I'm glad you're still able to use it to hold things down!!!
OMG who even comes up with that?! 😮 You have the patience of a Saint with these people.
Great admiration for this young lady. She would make a great speaker when she finishes college.
Haha I graduated college already and I do public speaking professionally for colleges and Fortune 500 companies!! 🩷
@@AliciaGuitar❤❤
I can't believe that someone would ask that! That's so unkind.
You're a wonderful person who's a lot more patient than me.❤
You are an adapt and conquer queen! 👑
Sounds like a out there question, but it was so interesting how you have adapted to using your hand.
Cutting a hand off is an extreme choice. Its going to hurt, cost a lot and there could be complications. Even if it was totally useless, why cut it off?
You are my hero. You seem very strong to me!
Why would anyone ask such a question❓😮
Human beings never cease to amaze😮
What an interesting and kind answer to a terrible question! 😂
I just really hope it’s children asking that question because it’s so unthinking.
Gurl some of these questions and unprovoked at that 😮 the absolute audacity is just 😅 oof. Glad to see you take it in a positive light
People out here acting like bodyparts are employees that can just be fired if they're not at 100% capacity 😂😂😂
Recently found your channel, love your work here, you communicate so well. I've learned a lot already, thank you
It's wild that people ask you that.
How...how could anyone think that, let alone say it?
You are doing great!! God bless you!!!😇😇😇
As someone with mental disorders, the way you use your hand is a lot like how I use certain parts of my brain. I have no control over it and it just kinda does its own thing unless I can come up with a compatible activity for it
What an outlandish and insensitive question!!! She explains why she hasn't done this in the video. Even so, if nothing else, perhaps she feels better seeing her hand rather than a stump.
I like that....adapt to using your hand a different way.
Your a great inspiration in the world :) Keep doing what you do!
It's very cool that you chose to take it as an opportunity to educate but what an absolutely bizarre question to ask someone!
although it was a wild question, some people js don’t understand or haven’t been taught much Abt that stuff so it’s really great to see u educating people and helping them understand more Abt ur disability ❤
I've been recommended a few of your videos today and I love how informative they are and you seem like an incredibly sweet human being! But my biggest takeaway has been that your nails are always absolutely stunning! Beautiful, goals manicures 24/7 💅 ❤️
Aww thank you so much 🩷
I had stroke my left hand was effected I’m getting used to using it as stablizer as well I guess we just figure a way to do everything loveyour videos ❤
Yikes. Amputation? I get it if the limb isn’t useable and you have awful pain. But holy cow that’s a new one for me
Also like real talk, how many abled body people really use their non-dominant hand for much?
That's so insensitive to ask such a question! 💔
You are just so pretty !!! ❤ love your channel !! You’re so strong and the most important!!! Thank u for sharing🩷🩷🩷🥰
"Why don't you cut off the useless limb?" 🙄
There's ignorance, and then there's just plain rude. The entitlement and audacity of that question . . . Just wow.
I loveeeee your videos! So informative
People dont realize amputation is not an easy route.
I love your videos sm❤
This is just so CRAZY!!!
I was born with cerebral palsy (left side effect. I rode a bike with one leg, roller skated, had a baby(natural), I drive,
retired 30yrs from Library.
I use my left hand as a helper hand👏🙌
Who ever made that ludicrous comment.
Immobilez one hand
for one day.
I love the way you tell you story
That question is making me laugh ngl. I can’t believe u took ur time to answer this!😂❤
That’s WILD.. and I agree, totally out of pocket to ask, I’d much rather have an arm with minimal use than NO arm at all 🤯
what an insane question. my mom is losing use of her left hand due to MS and is learning new PT strategies so that she can still use it in some capacity like this, but even if she wasn't it never would have crossed my mind that she should CUT IT OFF??? amputation is for when you're in danger of something bad spreading to the rest of the body, or the extremity causes severe pain... there's no reason to do it to a part that's just not talking to the nervous system anymore. do these commenters also ask blind people why they don't get their eyes removed???
It’s so crazy that anyone would think amputating a whole limb would be easier than just leaving it as is. Amputations require so many surgeries and cost a lot of money.
Not to mention the risks, pain, and cost of having a medically unnecessary surgery like that. And the risk of developing phantom limb sensations like itching and pain that can’t be helped. I’m so glad the ignorance doesn’t bring you down!
Weird question either way like I wouldn't want NOTHING there instead??? 😅 you're sweet for answering nicely to some people who were probably just trolling. Killin em with kindness fr
You missed a golden opportunity to say "ever though its paralyzed it still comes in handy"
AMPUTATED??? what would even be the point😭
Be strong because you are brave girl
My brother couldn’t fully utilize his right hand, similar to your situation. But he sure did use it for similar situations. He used it to stabilize video game controllers too. So it’s wild to hear someone would ask that question.
Your left hand still has sensation, right? That's really useful when it comes to stabilizing things. Even if you can't move it, you have another source of sensory information to let you feel what's happening and make adjustments.
Prosthetics can't do that.
Such a messed up question
