Having worked in electronics manufacturing for a little while, I can say this: The difference in price isn't the parts because they all use the same suppliers, and if they're all made in China it sure as hell isn't the labor. Nah, it's mostly marketing and executive/shareholder profits, with a slight bit for upscale rents for their fancy HQs in the ritzier parts of town. I'm not expecting Poundland's owners to be living out of a van, but they damn well aren't wasting their cash on a fancy glass tower in central London when a perfectly good industrial park on the outskirts of Birmingham or Liverpool will do.
That circle light could be very useful for a sort of night lamp or emergency light stored in the car and its 2 bucks WITH rechargeable battery? Pretty good
The black cased vido headphones look excellent, I think you'd be happy paying 3 or 4 times more for them. For a tenner? Superb! The biggest bonus is they don't look like the frankly stupid looking airpods. The design of looking like you're wearing either toothbrush heads or regular cheapo headphones with the wires cut off is insultingly lazy. Great video!
You can get them even cheaper at around £6. EDIT: They've arrived, I ordered 2 pairs. One pair is completely fine, the other the circuit board in the right earbud isn't lined up correctly so it doesn't charge. Will probably be sent a replacement. Obviously take this into account.
Hearing Ashens talk about inedible pizza snacks reminded me my local Poundland recently added a freezer section and they sell some really good stuff in them like a great chips in chip shop curry sauce.
I want to see that day when Stuart Ashens and Tim from Grand Illusions make an episode together reviewing Poundland tat. With Tim being so enthralled by the fascinating machina of plastic bootlegs while Ashens casually tosses them aside and cracks British wit.
Saw the black earbuds in Poundland today and couldn't resist. Can confirm that they are excellent. Best price to performance ratio for any earbuds. If you spent 10 times the money you'd probably get earbuds that sound 10% better. I never use the mic on earbuds so am very happy with my purchase.
Damn Ashens you weren't lying about those wireless earbuds. The audio quality for €11 is kind of unleavable. I could poke holes in them and say they smooth over detail or that they are dynamically compressed but for €11 they might be the best audio deal I have ever seen. I have heard worse for more money that's for sure.
The Poundland LED lamp if you remove the slotted cap on the right side of the base of the lamp there is an adjustment screw inside that you can tighten up so you can then position the lamp the way you want.
I bought those black earbuds from aliexpress for 5€ and wasn't expecting much but they are simply astonishing. I've had them for a year and I still use them every day and they still hold a charge for a workday and have really good audio.
YES! those black ones have the little buds that makes them better at sticking in the ideas! I dunno WHY there's wireless earbuds without them (like the white ones Ashens showed first) cuz it's literally a better design and you avoid them slipping out and break on the floor or some such.
Fun fact - removing the headphone jack isn't what makes it water resistant. Sony's Xperia phones not only keep the headphone jack, but have expandable storage and no screen cutout. But they're still water and dust resistant. And that isn't even the main selling point of them...
Id say at least 90 percent of phones made by reputable brands and sold in stores at least here in the States no longer have a headphone jack. Most people still buy phones at physical stores, and therefore buy brands available like Samsung, iPhone, motorola, Google, etc.
Oh man, I've gone through SO many earbuds over the years. Two pairs of Raycons (that I lost so shortly after each time due to falling asleep with them in my ears), to all the Chinese knock-off things. The ones I have now were, like, $25 and they are as good as the $85 Raycons, if not better. Happy to hear Ashens be so giddy when describing the black earbuds. That's basically me when I find a good deal on a cheap thing.
7 hour battery is pretty great. I bought some headphones that allow me to "hear" music through some magical deaf person wizardry and they advertise 8 hour battery life but realistically have more like 4 granted they have some sort of motor in each headphone and do some sort of tympanic pulsing but still it would be nice to have access to longer lifespan.
I'm pretty sure you can remove some plastic plugs on the hinges of the lamp and tighten the screws to get better friction and make it hold more positions.
Bought the black earbuds today. Getting both connected is a bit hit or miss but they're great once connected. I'd have been happy with the sound and fit for £30-40
5:12 That awkward moment when ~$10 wireless earbuds outclass the $175-$200 ones by a wide margin. Way better battery life, way more useful case, like WOW.
I once bought some cheap wireless earphones and could hear the demodogs in the Upside Down. If you did use that monster speaker like a suppository, at least you could pull it out vile the thing on the top. I can see Big Clive getting one of those lamps for the LEDs.

My local poundland finally has those earbuds in stock. I picked up a pair today so I'll give them a whirl once they're charged up...... Edit. Yeah pretty good. Compared to the previous jvc earbuds I was using for twice the price they've a hell of a lot more bass to them. Admittedly the jvcs had next to none but the poundland ones are respectable to my non audiophile ears. They're a pain in the arse to adjust though as you will accidentally disconnect them each time you even so much as scratch your ears. But they go louder than my previous and sound better. Although according to the missus the Mike on the jvcs were very good so time will tell on these ones... Edit again. After performing a stereo test from youtube I either appear to be slightly deaf in my left ear or the right channel comes in louder lol. I'm going to assume it's the latter
Actually, there are a few new phones with headphone sockets. I recently acquired a brand new Sony Xperia 5 III which only came out last year and which, like all new Sony Xperia phones, not only has a headphone socket but is also still waterproof up to 1.5m. 😊
With cheap headphones where one doesn't always connect it's usually the second device because it connects to the first, and your phone connects to the first. The order you pull them out can be important. Used to have a pair that'd only work if I removed the left first because that was the primary and the right would connect to the left, but if the left was off it'd fail and turn itself off.
Not gonna lie, i was having an incredibly anxious night and then i msaw this. And this has given me something to focus my mind on, well played Stuart, released a video just in time
I have been using wireless earbuds worth only £30. They're fine, but I've had to get a couple of replacements as they've stopped working in the past. The ones I have now work fine, but I think, when I'm next in Poundland I'll buy the £10 ones to see the difference
I got my dad a pair of $20 wireless earbuds he wanted for Christmas from a drugstore and they are surprisingly good for a $20 piece of tech that is normally $50 plus. It’s crazy how much cheaper it has become to develop Bluetooth technology in recent years.
I am listening to this using my just-arrived TOZO bluetooth ear pods from Amazon. $25 and they have a charging case (will charge the 6 hour battery pods several times, total of about 30 hours). And the case is even built with the Qi charger in it! So micro-usb or Qi case charging. Oh how far tech has come in just a few years.

Pretty good
Can't believe his video format hasn't changed, dedication to consistency.
@@GazahSCD
Even better! Ridiculous bargain!
@@GazahSCD The exact same ones? Where from, please?
@@craigdrever6334 Aliexpress, theres quite a few different sellers. I got mine from "Dodocase".
@@craigdrever6334 I've updated my original post :).
2024 the rewatch of the best channel on youtube, Dr Ashens
More Poundland technology? Huzzah, my prayers have been answered!
You should sample the delights of B&M Bargain! They really do have some dangerously tempting shite.
Jessssssus. I haven't seen an Ashens video on years. That intro took me back ❤ Im so glad you showed up on my recommendations again
i imagine the strobe on the selfie light could be useful for a cheap night cycling light
The power of a generic controller chip
Always good when Ashens uploads, great videos as always. 👍👍
Just purchased some of the black viido earbuds based on this. Can confirm, very excellent.
I bought those black earbuds from aliexpress for 5€ and wasn't expecting much but they are simply astonishing. I've had them for a year and I still use them every day and they still hold a charge for a workday and have really good audio.
I have a set from eBay but both buds batteries have died. Shame as they sounded good. 😣
1:12 Wait until Ashens hears about the Jukebox AI.
YES! those black ones have the little buds that makes them better at sticking in the ideas!
And that isn't even the main selling point of them...
samsung did it better ,their phone battery could be removed still
Fist time Ashens done a poundland video and has given 10 out of 10 on all the products!
Still seems to me that _most_ phones retain 3.5mm combo jacks and it's just the pointlessly high end ones have ommitted it.
That "Fucking inflatable crowns" reference
I'm pretty sure you can remove some plastic plugs on the hinges of the lamp and tighten the screws to get better friction and make it hold more positions.
that selfie light looks like an angel's halo on the camera when it lights up.
Our Poundland ( $0.99/ Dollar Tree ) is now Mostly $1.25. Some items are still $0.99
Bought the black earbuds today.
Holy smokes!!! Just the visual charge percent and it acts as a tiny emergency charger. !!!!!!UNBELIEVABLE!!!!!! I want some of those!
Interesting how after mentioning the minion speaker looks like a suppository Ashens "plugged" his merchandise in... 🤣 😂
When Ashens uploads just as I get ready for bed, I do not sleep
I once bought some cheap wireless earphones and could hear the demodogs in the Upside Down.
If you did use that monster speaker like a suppository, at least you could pull it out vile the thing on the top.
I can see Big Clive getting one of those lamps for the LEDs.
I had the same thought about BigClive and the lights. :)
I love how the intro and couch is still the same after all these years. Originality at its finest. haha
You might be able to pop open the hinges on those lamps and tighten them, although it seems doubtful.
It's really weird to see the transiton from poundland being a house of cheap tat, to a house of legitimately good value. Though you haven't checked out poundland's toys in a while so they may still be Awfu- AMAZING
Currently using the bluetooth speaker from the other tech special for my PC. Works a treat (as long as you have bluetooth on your PC)
Actually, there are a few new phones with headphone sockets.
I recently acquired a brand new Sony Xperia 5 III which only came out last year and which, like all new Sony Xperia phones, not only has a headphone socket but is also still waterproof up to 1.5m. 😊
I'm glad some manufacturers are bucking the trend still! I like my S20 an awful lot but the lack of headphone jack annoys me greatly!
The xperias have been waterproof for years- I feel like they just couldn't get away with that excuse!
Hey, got the same phone, proper little trooper isn't it?
Sony phones also have terrible software that makes you want to bend the phone in half lol
(Sony 5 ii user)
@@ciklop4206 Well, if you think Android 11, upgradable to, Android 12 is "terrible software", that is your prerogative.
And this has given me something to focus my mind on, well played Stuart, released a video just in time
Are you ok?
Bought the black earbuds and the selfie light today, very impressed with both. (I’m going to use the light to take macro shots of jewellery).
Because sometimes cheaper just means they did something called effort which no one knows these days.
I'm glad I copped the big box merch. Disc's, shirt, and action figures! Best deal I could have gotten!
Hey Ashens did you know they sell your movies on Blu Ray at CEX stores they are Pre-owned Blu Rays but I was surprised to see they were sold there.
the strobe function of the ring light is for when you walk off a cliff and survive the fall.
that way a rescue helicopter can spot you. They covered every base with that one.
what absolute Brain Lords
And to think only the other day LTT did a dollar store tech vid. Can't wait for DankPods to do whatever their equivalent is that isn't Cash Converters
I recently discovered that they have Daiso which would be a good candidate
those ring lights would be hella good props for your amateur indie movie or something
A sign of my age; whenever I see the "Vido" brand, I cannot resist the urge to shout "It's vidayo!".
I’ve been watching this channel since I was 11 I love these videos thanks man 👍
An another Ashens Poundland special, simply delightful. 👌👌
Yesssssss 😀😀
You know it bro
I used touch lamps in my guest bedrooms, don't usually have guests over, even though this house can easily accommodate a company's worth of people comfortably, with 4.5 baths and 4 guest bedrooms. BUT I liked the idea of guests who need to get up and go to the bathroom at night not having to figure out where the damn switch is, so they slap their hand around on the nightstand (folding tv dinner tray tables) and can turn on a not overly bright lamp.
I want an Ashens and Dankpods crossover along with Sharur as a guest.
Today I finally finished your book: fifty thousand shades of grey, awesome piece of writing...
