I’m an American that went to London for the first time in September. There was a Poundland down the block from my hotel in Brixton. I went because of your videos (and I got a completely useable HDMI cable to hijack my hotel TV)!
What you're hearing on those microphones is the LEDs interfering with the actual microphone. I recognize that space-alien communication from when I got my high-gain guitar pickups too close to my LED keyboard, and it made that sound but with a lot more distortion. Unshielded cabling "picks it up" as well, since the slight "bzzt bzzt" of LEDs being powered on can actually produce a lot of audio interference.
i was thinking that too, but thay doesnt explain the noise difference in different devices. i think its also picking up interference from the computer itsef as well
@@jesuschrist711 different computers deal with electric noise differently. Even if the machines are supposedly completely identical (in components and specs and so on) there will always be a slight difference in their noise levels. @@jesuschrist711 oh yeah, it'll be picking up all kinds of interference. If I plug my headphones into the analogue jack instead of the USB, I get a low level of noise. More if I've got a Bluetooth adaptor nearby. My wah pedal can pick up radio stations. That microphone is probably just *completely* unshielded, so although most of the noise is coming from its own internals, it'll be picking up a fair amount from the environment, too. If he surrounded it with foil and did another test we could isolate the noise from the microphone itself.
@@BenjaminGoose how? You're not wiring up the foil to the mic. Aluminium foil very effectively stops electromagnetic radiation. You can make your WiFi signal stronger but more directional by placing some foil in the direction you don't want the signal to go. I have lined my wallet with foil and it successfully stops contactless communications with my card until I open my wallet. Surrounding the device with foil will block incoming electrical noise from any source that isn't directly wired up to it. You're essentially putting it in a makeshift Faraday cage.
I was thinking that too but it could be the usb signals interfering too It kinda sounded similar to cellphone interference Its a digital sounding interference I had a old pc that i pluged a pair of ear bud headphones into the line out jack I had to have the volume on the pc and the media player turned down as low as they could go so I could listen to it because the line out jack had a lot of power there was a lot of digital interference in the background when you scrolled through a web page I could hear the digital noise the cpu was making
Honestly, after that surprise we got with that cheap mic made out of plastic straw plastic that actually sounded pretty good, I'm not taking anything from granted anymore.
ive been watching ashens since his guest appearance on the cooptional podcast and i love that he hasnt changed at all and its still a banger vid every time
I love that he singlehandedly created the "disembodied hands" UA-cam format mimicked by such legends as Big Clive, Atomic Shrimp and Dankpods. He's like the Led Zeppelin to their Porcupine Tree.
Hearing Ashens's voice through that gaming mic was so damn nostalgic I expected him to start talking about killer shrews or some terrible old game I'd never heard of. P.S. That ending with the sofa turning red was absolutely brilliant stuff! Quite striking and rather haunting in its simplicity.
Nothing makes you feel older than when you remember Ashens videos where "For a pound you could get much worse I suppose" explained a better bluetooth keyboard 7 years ago than "For 8 pounds you probably won't find anything else" explaining a crappier keyboard today.
Thanks to these reviews, I picked up the Viido Wireless earbuds way back when. Absolutely bloody brilliant, the review was bang on. £10 very well spent.
I love this. Im having a rough week, and i came back to an old comfort, watching some bloke review weird tat he found at his local Singular Unit of Currency store. ive been coming back to this for a decade now.
I bet that keyboard was part of a case, probably for the earlier gen iPads (32-bit). When the iPads changed form factor (and would no longer fit the ubiquitous and copious number of cases in back catalog) they ripped the keyboards out (since it's just bluetooth) and sold them separately.
If you open the standalone microphones and remove the LEDs I'm 100% sure the background noise will be gone. This has happened to me and some friends of mine with similar headphones and microphones before.
As much as Ashens might joke about in his review videos, basically everything he reviews is cheap and accessible to a lot of people which can really help those who can’t spend the money for top brands. I really appreciate the type of videos you make Ashens ❤
Those wireless earbuds that you recommended in the last video are an absolute godsend, I've bought a couple of them since i heard about about them from you and they are great quality and a secret hidden gem among a company that generally releases rubbish products.
Those Viido products are probably like an earphone i bought for cheap,it sounded amazing, until they broke and that was when i found out the electronics were glued with hot glue
@@keroberos2781 usually it's silicone or hot glue, no conductivity and it's really good at what it does. Cheap stuff usually just has a much sloppier application job lmao

That microphone could be a chance for a new collab with bigclive. You could get to the bottom with the interference and provide a solution on how to fix it for any other customers who bought it.
Feels like this particular wireless keyboard is everywhere. My 12 years old has it with a cheap folding cover for her school ipad and it works surprisingly well. It has good battery, always connects quickly when turned on, is made to stick to the case with magnets and well, it types decently enough. And I won't cry over it when my kid inevitably break it or loses it.

I know why they have that little keyboard for so cheap! Those were originally designed to slot into a specialized carrying case for specific tablets. If I'm right the keyboard should have a couple of magnets underneath which were used to lock it into the case. I'm guessing supply outpaced demand on the cases so the manufacturer salvaged the keyboards and sold them in bulk to poundland, The model I had for my Windows 8 tablet did the job and the battery life was impressive. I guess it's not horrible that it's finding its way to an end user now as opposed to immediately being shipped to the landfill.

Based on the recc from the last video, I replaced my terrible broken painful to wear over the ear Bluetooth headphones from about 7 years ago with the Viidio little rechargeable in ear Bluetooth headphones and they've been wonderful. They go out of sync with each other occasionally but that's it. Amazing charge, easy to use, as comfortable as I can find in ear things, great sound- they even look nice. I'm chuffed Stuart brought my attention to them, I never would have thought to try them otherwise.
Picked up a set of cheap USB-C Viido earphones in Poundland while travelling after forgetting my good earphones and not being able to face sitting for hours on a train in silence. Tried them while walking towards the station and they were so bad that I immediately stopped, turned around, ran to the nearest Argos and spent an unreasonable amount of money on a set of new bluetooth earphones. It's telling that they were so bad that I couldn't even bare the thought of 5 hours of using them. I've heard better music fidelity from those horn style PA speakers!
I did previously pick up those vido Bluetooth earbuds (the small black ones) based on your previous tech vid. They're pretty decent. A couple of downsides I noticed is that they can take a while to connect to bluetooth. And the microphone isn't fantastic for calls. As a cheap set of going to and from work ear buds they do the job and have been used almost daily for well over a year now. The battery still holds up on them and I get a minimum of 3 days of use (using them roughly for 4 hours a day) without the need to recharge them
I think the background noise on the mic is Wi-Fi interference so it would be interesting to try them in the middle of a field in the middle of nowhere, exactly where everyone goes to play offline games & talk to themselves, either that or a 1990’s LAN party!
I got that exact keyboard in a bundle with my tablet case. They don't have a slot because they're magnetic and you're supposed to stick them to the tablet case. The keyboard itself is fine though, it does the job in the situations where you want your tablet to have a keyboard.
