A lot of folk don't know that the American Eel was almost fished to extinction in the late 1800s. On the east coast there were multiple Eel canneries and it was a major export item to Europe. American Eel is still fished, but its not a major business now. Most of the catch is exported to Japan.
I’m not sure how my life brought me here but I’ve now been watching you eat canned fish for about 2 hours. About to go to the store and buy an assortment of cans for the first time
I love Unagi. I had no idea America had it's own smoked eels. Thank the gods that Matthew Stone has brought them to light. True investigative journalism is not dead.
ahh, another relaxing Saturday evening. The wife went to bed and I go downstairs to the kitchen to make a midnight snack.. some eggs and a tin of king oscars; I throw on the tube and my boy Matt brings it to the next level. Great review. Keep on fishing into the depths of the sea my man, thanks for always keeping us informed of whats out there.
I complain about overpriced fish in a can, Im that guy. But we all want to know what it tastes like even if we dont ever buy it and we all want you to be the guy who gives us the secondhand experience. You explained it well, another great one!
Smoked canned eel filets in olive oil. I can dig it but it sounds dangerous. That little tin is $40 bucks for a reason. Raising xenomorph's in a black ops government lab using top men is very expensive. Now that you've consumed and absorbed its DNA, gestation has begun and the waiting begins. I'm looking forward to the next video of the alien chest burst caught on camera. You'll be rolling in UA-cam cash from all of the millions of views and new subscribers. All my best to you!
Eels are difficult to farm since they don’t breed in captivity. They have to source the eel broods and then they are farm raised, so I could see how it’s not as cheap as other fish.
I’ll never be able to experience this type of eel at $40, but I was fortunate enough to eat smoked eel with Northern California Native Americans years ago . It was really good. They caught them, cleaned them, hung them on racks over a fire. As kids, we occasionally caught lamprey eels in a slough near home, but that was before I knew you could eat them. We just threw them back into the water. Good review Matt.
