@tom_olofsson yeah it gives me uncanny valley vibes. Some things like the bgm and this guys commentary just seem off. Like an adult swim larp or sketch. Anyway I subscribed because real or not the off feeling is strong that I have to know more.
Every part of your body benefits from sardines. I eat a lot of kippered snacks. I can't help it, I am a Swede. My Dad is to blame. He loved kippered snacks.
@@lars277i have this childhood memory of a slowly expanding and bulging tin of grebbestads anjovis left for several months (or years) in our fridge and when it looked like it was about to explode it suddenly disappeared and apparently my father just left it there to ripe and then ate it
In the last year, I sincerely pray that you have stopped this ridiculous habit 😂. Two tins a day is a dangerous amount of mercury being ingested no two ways about it. Even though sardines are safe, one should really only eat about 1-2 servings per week to be safe with mercury contamination and buildup in the body. Wishing you good health, sir.
Tall tin cans sardines in tomato sauce actually the most common form in here southeast asia, and people here don't eat sardines straight from the can without being cooked or at least heated first, and must be eaten with rice 😆. here my favorite simple recipe for sardines in tomato sauce : -1 small (150gr) tin can sardines in tomato. -1 clove of garlic or 2 if you prefer more garlicky, chops. -1/2 onion, slices. - slices hot chili peppers if you like spicy. -1 chicken egg. - fish sauce and pepper or can substitute just with salt and pepper. - 3-4 table spoons cooking oil. steps : stir fry garlic, onion and chili peppers with cooking oil until it's fragrance, add egg and scrambled, then sardines, also add some water measure by 1/4 part of sardines tin can, adjust taste with fish sauce or salt and pepper, simmer for at least 1-2 minutes. It doesn't have to be eaten with rice, you can use spaghetti pasta, mash potatoes or bread too. sorry for my bad english.

So happy the algorithm decided to show me this channel. Gonna get some sardines for myself now. This channel is gonna be the topic of an article 2 years from now titled “This UA-camr is Reinventing the Way People Eat Sardines” or some shit.
CBS posted a video about the "new trend: sardines". Would have been cool if they gave props, but they didn't. Now its a diet fast. People cant just eat stuff, ya know?
I'm going out to get my first loaf of sardines today. Something about your commentary and videos, make sardines very approachable. This is why i love the Internet
He got them from Market Basket?!?!? He lives near me. They're only in a small region but extremely popular and gaining a lot of customers and real estate. Market Basket is awesome. What a small world lol
There are 34 Market Basket stores in Texas & Louisiana, and 88 across 4 states in New England. And we used to have a bunch in SoCal, but they were bought or phased out 20 years ago, or so.
That small can form factor is how smaller sardines are sold in Southeast Asia, where they're a cheap source of protein and are added to omelettes and soups. Larger pacific sardines are sold in flat oval cans or just larger upright cans (like those for tomato soup). The most common base for them is tomato sauce.
How nice that has got to be that people are finding different tins of fish and sharing them with you. What I am discovering it is not easy to find many of them in local grocery stores.
Different grocery store chains can also carry different offerings. I’m in Texas and the grocery store here, H-E-B, stocks a low-end proprietary brand named “Hill Country Fare,” that offers a pretty great quality can of ‘dines for 98¢. Pretty sure they’re only carried at H-E-B though.
Mostly chicken of the sea at my local place. They have one or two kind of maybe three others, including KO and Wild Planet. So got me started at least 👍
Thanks Matthew and Justin for blessing us with more canned fish files! The Ramon Pena card and subsequent editing got me good. Can't wait to see what else is in store.
Those "Goya" are sold under a few different names and there are sardines and mackerel versions. Their sauce works really nice with butter. Buttered toast of buttered pasta with the fish and sauce are pleasantly pleasing.
It would be nice to get a sardine canning “scientist” to explain the process and why some are soft and fall apart and other are firm and intact. Like everything there must be a science and method affecting the final product.
you may have already gotten this but I looked for tinapa on google. it means smoked. It is a Filipino term. They eat alot of canned sardines in the Philippines.
Do you think the dines are a specific type that gave them the curve? I thought it might be fact that they are standing on their tail in a can for months on end until somebody buys them? All other dines are laying on their side and are straight, but these are upright standing in a can, gravity made them bend over time.
The tall cans, they are similar to Glenryck Pilchards, I get them from Chinese supermarkets in the US, the best are about $1.29 a can, the cheaper ones don't taste good.
In fact, they have been giving away canned sardines in food packages for the poor during the pandemic to help out the folks who lost their jobs during the pandemic.
If you keep telling people how good our sardines are they won't be 69 cents anymore. I love it that my family can't get past the smell , although they eat every other kind of fish, you just keep thinking that way family, when the Levee Breaks they will look real good to you.
I never knew Goya had meat products! I have been hooked on their beans for decade, but will have to look for their other products. I live in a small town with only one grocery store, so Amazon here I come.
I am surprised that I never heard you mention vintage sardines. I don't know if it is common in other parts of the world. Here they put sardines in special packaging and let them sit for a year, two, three, up to ten, then sell them as vintage sardine. Have you ever have those? I find them delicious. They even make collector packaging for these, with colored artistic or regional engravement on the metal of the box. And the year is written on the box too.
It seems a little strange that no other canned sardines exhibit this extreme curvature (re: Goya Tinapa). Are all sardines from Thailand like this, or could it be a function of being packed in cylindrical cans?
