Getting an animal isn't always great imho. If you have problems providing for yourself / having enough time to reflect on yourself, I don't think getting an animal will help, it'll become another hindrance.
I might be completly wrong on that though.

Although theres some coping mechanism that are tragically more damaging (sometimes with unrepairable side effect) compared to others.
Especially if there only the bare minimum of benefits obtain from said maladaptive (or not) coping skills
Probably why in best case scenario there'll be a collection of coping mechanism that all serv their purpose and keep anyone of them from consuming your life

Setiawan Let's say for example you spend way too much time socialising, or you get like 20 pets. The coping mechanism instead starts taking over your life. Just a rough example. My point is that they are a tool, not some cure-all.

Pets are great, our cats have helped me so much. Especially being in a relationship where we have different needs for touch, having a cat that is almost always willing to snuggle (and sometimes quite insistent upon it even when I'm not) has been such a massive boon to my life.
The one concern I have is when people are unable to do basic care tasks for themselves, they might end up neglecting their pet. But this just means you should be mindful of what pet you get to make sure you're comfortable with handling their care needs.

After spending over 5 years 99 percent of the time at home I adopted a dog to not only give that dog a better life but me too. We both struggled so much in the beginning (she was in a cage for many months) with the walks, so many parts of our bodies in pain, but we made it :D. Somehow she still is more lazy than I am, going out 3 times a day is usually too much for her, she is happy with 2 times, lol she will struggle again a lot when she becomes older and needs to pee more often.

You gottan know what you are trying to work on and why and then find the specific meditation skills for that and practice those. You need to have a great insight of what you are actually dealong with to start healing it on your on. Its DYI for your brain. But it is not for everyone. Most people need to be guided through thrapists and meditation experts.

My mental health started to improve a lot as soons as I started working as a petsitter, since I couldn't (and still can't) afford to have one of my own. I like dogs, but cats are my favorites. I had one when I was a child, he just showed up at my house someday, he stayed because of my sister and me, he would go around the neighborhood when we'd leave for school and then come back when we'd arrive. I learned his cat language and the meaning of his vocalizations. He was a really good kitten, I was shocked when I found out about the negative stereotypes about cats, because none of that ever happened to me. I have interacted with lots of cats throughout my life, literally none of them tried to hurt me or acted cold around me. Cats have their own habits and personalities, and they have an unique way of making us feel special.
If you want a pet but don't have lots of money, a cat is a good choice, since they bathe themselves. Just keep them indoors and use some catification (watch Jackson Galaxy's videos for more).

    • @blanahaha
      @blanahaha Рік тому +9

It's because 99% of the time when people are playing videogames It's too escape/run away from the problem rather then actually feeling the emotion and addressing the issue. Also it can amplify the problem if you don't do well in the game as well.
If you start a pvp game(shooter, rts, resin, etc) with the intent to win and feel better, but you instead end up on a losing streak. You're most likely going to feel even worse then before.
Same with pve you boot up an rpg, but maybe you get stuck on a boss or something.

@@blanahahaI’d argue the same can be said of pets and friends, people often go clubbing and get tons of pets to escape from reality and considering the old cat lady trope is as common as it is this can also be addictive, I’m not saying gaming is a cure all but I feel that assuming misuse of it just because it’s gaming is absolutely ridiculous because not everyone misuses it, heck this is anecdotal but I use games as mental stimulation and because I handle and process so much while playing I’ve gotten significantly better at processing my own emotions as well as understanding others

Man’s really just said video games are an unhealthy coping mechanism, if done in moderation video games are a healthy coping mechanism, it all depends on how u approach things, hell even alcohol can be a healthy coping mechanism if done properly. For example there are people that turn to video games to destress or to have fun with friends or to mentally challenge oneself, 10 hr a day sessions are bad but realistically if u r playing with ur dog for 10 hrs a day that’s equally bad so assuming misuse isn’t really valid here, and as for alcohol I know many people who become mixologists and dedicate tons of time studying different drinks and trying new flavors and that is a healthy way to experience and use alcohol as a coping mechanism because it’s only unhealthy if abused you should never just toss coping mechanisms into the unhealthy category because they can be misused you should indicate that they are often misused tho

What kind of person thinks people will change their whole life and their physiology to be more difficult on a whim?

That's why you try to blame it on me instead of trying to talk about the issue. I understand it's difficult to talk sense when there is none. Learn to love your self, that part of you that has preferences and can choose and can always see you, and you won't need anyone else. You can enjoy their company but if they are not up to your standard, they can duck right off. If they don't love you then you don't need them, and if you love you then you don't need them. They are accessories and possible allies (and possible enemies), nothing more.
Note: this is not Dr k's advice, this is my own and I just wanted to offer a word as a fellow former lonely person. I am no longer lonely, though I do spend a lot of time with my self :)

@@Dimitris_Half if you know the difference between your self and your identity, it does work like that.
If you love your self, you realize that you are never alone because you are always in your own company. You can always see your own actions and have some level of appreciation of them. If you discount that then you may tend to do things that you will regret. If you love yourself, and you know that you are worthy because you love yourself, that's enough. Maybe not for others but it should be for you. The universe was not designed to be kind. The universe just is, just as we are for awhile just here to survive and maybe thrive and maybe reproduce with someone else worthy. But maybe not, and that doesn't mean that you are intrinsically unloveable, just unlucky or unskilled, thus far, and you should be patient with yourself. You love you and that should be enough.
The feeling of loneliness imo comes from feeling deprived of something that was never guaranteed in the first place, except for your self. If you can get it, great! But if you can't, it shouldn't be devastating, not if you know your self.
Ps: I realize I'm probably coming across as a massive narcissist lol

Saying that videogames are unhealthy as a basic idea is... simply wrong. It depends. Otherwise board games are the same. Watching a movie. Reading a comic book. All of this is bad. But playing a game with a friend? relaxing and unwind enjoying a good narrative? why not?
