I’ve been an avid manga reader since 8th grade which at that time I started to like anime. I really want to collect and buy manga on my own but the place where I live in (Philippines) made it difficult for me. And also, I only have school allowances. I’ve been reading them digitally and (im sorry for this) illegally. I know I feel guilty about it but I really can’t help it. Now in my 3rd year of college, I really can’t wait to get a job and earn and slowly build up my collection. Not just manga, but light novels as well. This otaku community made me realize how artistic and beautiful the world of fiction is, and maybe someday in the future, to series like Silent Voice, Classroom of the Elite, and One Piece, I’ll buy them if I have the money for it. But for now, I’ll strive on, sacrifice now, and enjoy later. Keep up the good work Boogie.

I've been reading manga for ten years but only owned a few volumes. Two years ago I started collecting because I finally had the space and money to do so.
I got into anime and manga in 2007. My friend in middle school was a Naruto and Wolf's Rain fan, and the Naruto Hundo happened to be airing on Toonami so I checked it out. I got the first couple volumes from Barnes and Noble, and then that Christmas my parents got me the wooden box set of the complete first part of Naruto. I still have it, it was the beginning of my collecting and my first dip into the community. I've gone up and down on my collection, recently getting back into it. I've had rare volumes and series but sold most of them off because I'd rather only have manga I enjoy - learned the hard way that sometimes a series didn't sell well and is thus hard to find now because the series actually sucked, and sometimes the series wasn't bad at all, it just wasn't quite my cup of tea. I went from about 500 volumes to 400 after a purge and now I'm working on exploring new series and finally finishing out the series I currently have.

That special manga was vol.1 of Tokyo Mew Mew a la Mode 😹 still love it dearly 💜 However, I believe +Anima & Dragon Knights are the two series that actually got me into collecting. But, during my early 20s I was poor and counldn't collect much anymore, so I restarted building my collection 4 1/2 years ago when I got my stable job. I remember buying the 3 box set of One piece with my first pay check :)
Started collecting in the summer of last year… first thing I ever got was the 2nd box of One Piece! Well, I did get the 2nd volume of the animanga version of Inuyasha back when I think I was 7 or 8, didn’t even know what manga was back then haha. I’m 15 almost 16 now and currently have just over 120 volumes and i’ve been loving collecting so far! Looking to get into manga/anime tube as well, think it will be a lot of fun. And yes, I do sometimes sit and just stare at my collection😂

He should totally watch Blue Period. It is on Netflix and if you are on the fence about reading the manga the anime made me a huge fan. I just bought all the current volumes out and its opening song is my new song to just zone out with. This series is amazing!
One you mentioned Tokyo Ghoul got you into collecting I yelled "ME TOO" in my head lol! I actually first started reading manga in 2006, and collected a few series like Ranma 1/2, Love Hina and Kamikaze Kaitou Jeanne etc.. back then they sold manga in the convenience store, so it was super easy to find (they don't do that anymore lol). However I first started seriously collecting after I picked up the Tokyo Ghoul boxset at the end of 2019, that (and vol 1 and 2 of Classmates) was my first manga purchase in 12-13 years. From then I just picked up more and more and now I have so much I don't even have space for it all. The first thing I want to do when getting my own place is to get more bookshelves so I can display all my manga in one place because it breaks my heart that half of my collection is tucked away in the basement T_T

Ah yes, Asadora! I really enjoy Urasawa, so I picked up the firs two volumes like you have. Big mistake. I should have picked up all four! Granted, the story is still getting started, but Asa is a great protagonist, and the mystery is building to the point where I think volume 5 is going to have huge reveals. Already pre-ordered volume 5! Plus, the VizSig oversized art and French flaps are so nice. Also, great to see another Blade of the Immortal and YuYu Hakusho enjoyer. Blade of the Immortal is in my top five manga of all time, and YYH is one of my favorite anime of all time. I'm currently collecting YYH, but waiting for reprints. I currently have volume 1,2, 9, 11, 13 and 14. Looking forward to seeing your new set up!
My first manga was rave master that I got from my library in 2004. From 2004 to 2009 I was buying manga here and there and 2010 when I was old enough to get a job that’s when I really started buying manga/cards/shoes. Didn't take long for me to collect the whole series and even thought I have over 300 volumes now, it is still my favourite. Getting a TG tattoo next week 😅
Yeah i agree with you bro, chainsawman will explode when the anime released in october, somehow it have unique story and have their own unique world inside it. Also the character that the mangaka present, every character is so memorable even some of them just have a short appearance in the manga😆

Thank you for sharing a little bit behind the scenes on your manga purchases! Tokyo ghoul was not the gateway series for manga but it was one of the gateway series I watched for anime when I started watching anime again as an adult.
I love Initial D, it was the first and only manga series I collected during my college days and I reread it constantly. I believe I had up to vol 30 or 33 before it got canceled. After some years I eventually gave my collection to a friend of mine who was still really into anime/manga and nowadays I got a couple volumes again, along with some official model kits to assemble and display together
I've been reading manga for many years but it wasn't until past year or so that I've started actually buying manga and also anime. I'm a big nerd so before manga I was collecting and reading American comic which I still do but have started prioritizing manga much more.

I started collecting manga in 2016 with Dbz vizbigs Omnibus. My collecting pace was nothing at first because I was hesitant to get more into manga, until later I just started to dive and love anime/manga. Now currently I have 450+ manga in my collection, mostly shonen jump manga.

started collecting when i was 9 years old in 2004 XD bought my first manga Aria and I still have it and its still one of my favorite series! back then it felt like ur only options for manga buying were borders, barnes and noble and suncoast really. I'm forever greatful for young me for getting most of gintama when it was in print XD im only missing 3 but they are the hard ones to find, 9,16,21. hopefully i stumble on them at some point. if you like cozy slice of life tho you really gotta pick up aria. kaiju no8 is fun! it's a bit predictable but not in a way that bothers me or makes it boring i think. also love that the mc is older XD refreshing. chainsaw man...i jumped on the hype train and just bought all 9 out rn thinking i'd love it, honestly it's very creative and does a lot of out there stuff but i don't think it does them well if that makes sense. read the rest on sj app and more happens that is also interesting but again not in a way i found entertaining. i'd give it a solid 6/10. definitely not a series for everyone.

Tokyo ghoul was my first manga I ever read or owned. I heard everywhere that the show was really bad compared to the manga and I really liked the show because I had barely watched anime at that point. So I just went and bought the first volume

I like Initial D but too bad Tokyo Pop didn’t finish making all the physical. Hopefully Kodansha makes a re release since they only have it for digital.
started collecting when i was 9 years old in 2004 XD bought my first manga Aria and I still have it and its still one of my favorite series! back then it felt like ur only options for manga buying were borders, barnes and noble and suncoast really. I'm forever greatful for young me for getting most of gintama when it was in print XD im only missing 3 but they are the hard ones to find, 9,16,21. hopefully i stumble on them at some point. if you like cozy slice of life tho you really gotta pick up aria.
kaiju no8 is fun! it's a bit predictable but not in a way that bothers me or makes it boring i think. also love that the mc is older XD refreshing.
chainsaw man...i jumped on the hype train and just bought all 9 out rn thinking i'd love it, honestly it's very creative and does a lot of out there stuff but i don't think it does them well if that makes sense. read the rest on sj app and more happens that is also interesting but again not in a way i found entertaining. i'd give it a solid 6/10. definitely not a series for everyone.
