  • GIA and IGI are two of many diamond certification laboratories in the world. As each lab uses its own diamond grading system, it is possible that the results of a report issued by one lab may differ significantly from the report issued by another lab for the same diamond.
In this video, we will be comparing the diamond grading standards of both GIA and IGI by examining the differences between GIA-certified and IGI-certified diamonds of the same Color grade.

I find it difficult to make an absolute statement based on a sample range of exactly one diamond for each lab and one categotry (color). There is a study of 29 diamonds for each lab (also still quite a small sample) which compared the 4 c's. There, they find that IGI is stricter in some categories and looser in others.

Very well said! This is a conversation I have very often. This is the same kind of information I am hoping to communicate to others on my channel, but with non diamond questions also. Thanks for your content.

2:58 …..well doesn’t the fluorescents (blue) affect the color grading? I thought the higher the fluorescents the lighter the diamond will appear. So of course the GIA K will look lighter. Idk 🤷🏾‍♂️ help me out

Hi Jann pual u r the best in industry to be honest with you never stop sharing the knowledge because it will help someone like me..it's because of your videos I understood what is a diamond and I have selected one diamond for my self regarding that diamond how I choose I will be writing a mail to your team . Last month I tried to contact your team regarding one diamond weather they will be able to ship the stone to India but team confirmed that there was no option but I still thanks for all of your videos which u have posted and the way you openly explain your coustomer about ur diamonds rather then hiding it I like the way your company works if I was in Singapore definitely I would have buy a diamond from you ....

"Excellent" is the highest rating for GIA and "Ideal" is the highest rating for IGI. You should have used a "Very Good" GIA diamond if you used an "Excellent" IGI diamond for comparison sake. You also picked a GIA diamond with a Strong Blue florescence which will affect the visual color. Yes IGI does grade more lenient but usually by 1 rating or so. This is a pretty bad test, one example and the examples are not even close to being equal

And I don't think they have enough sample size to prove IGI is looser than GIA in any of the aspect.

    • @gffryhk
      @gffryhk 2 роки тому +1

For the crown angle as an example, GIA only measured closed to 0.5 deg., while IGI measured to 0.1 deg. Which one is looser?

    Well said, nothing new but...
again well said. Btw, well done video (lol), i guess the folks who don't have a clue about diamonds understood how important the status of a GIA "Certificate" (Diamond/Grading Report) really is.
On the other hand, i was kind of shocked to see such a huge jump over like 2 - 3 color-grades ! "Normally" its more like IGI is, more or less, one grade below GIA standards when it comes to color grading. Am i right ?! What is YOUR opinion about that ?

As a jewelery industry insider (bench jeweler, Graduate Gemologist, former AGS title holder and horologist) with a few decades of experience my advice is to buy the stone not the report. Also if you do not KNOW jewelery, buy from a jeweler you know and trust. No I am not looking for new clients, as I am retired.

Any comment on "strong fluorescence" on the GIA diamond? Could that make up for some or a lot of the color difference?
Could you compare grading on the exact same diamond?

This alone makes this video comparison very biased towards GIA. Low color grades with strong fluorescence tends to show whiter than a low color grade with no/low fluorescence.

이렇게 차이가 있는 다이아몬드를 감정서에 쓰여 있는 등급이 같다는 이유로 같은 금액일거라고 생각 하시면 안될거 같아요. 좋은 영상 잘 보고 갑니다.

Your process is flawed. You need to send the same diamonds to both grading companies and compare the results.
How do we know the diamonds you're showing are actually the diamonds in the video? Show me the laser etching that matches the certificate.
Pointing out a "conflict of interest" -- The TRUE conlict of interest is the fact that you use GIA and AGS certificates at Jann Paul. Finally, why should I assume that you're not paid by GIA or AGS?
Your video is not science, it's marketing hype.
