Gonna admit, 90% of the reason I watch the reactions to this specific cinematic is to see how people react to Sylvanas going Banshee mode.
I have exactly the opposite reason, I love the moment when Anduin casts (I assume) mass resurrection. I see how he realizes that he is not his father, and he does not have to fight only with a sword
anduin mass rez for me
I'm mostly Ally, but yeah. Sylv banshee mode gives me chills. That and Legion's "Vol'jin is dead. Who will help me avenge him?" and their respective "For the Horde" chants ALMOST made me switch sides.
@@stumpy1146 I actually Main Alliance, it's just that Anduin's mass heal doesn't have the same impact as Sylvanas Banshee mode imo.
@@Inufan2005 both are cool imo but Sylvanas' "for the horde" was great too
Great breakdown! Anduin was 18 here so yeah pretty young. He was trained as a priest (healer) and this is the Light he is channeling. If you recall in The War Within trailer he says he has no Light, and his sword is indeed not lit.
I believe the spell he casts is Power Word: Salvation, it's a protective barrier + mass heal, not a resurrection. So cool with the music etc.
Blizzard always knocks these out of the park.
The lion is the symbol of Stormwind (human faction) and often used for the Alliance as a whole.
Anduin was 20ish at the time and he was channeling the Holy Light to heal his people.
Love this! Thanks!
He's a Priest, so he cast a Mass Resurrection (a Priest only spell) to bring all his dead soldiers back
@@lordmortarius538 All healer types have mass rez, his just has a lot more oomph.
He was 18, 20 during shadow lands
And was 17 when his father died and became king
His nickname is also little lion
Anduin Wrynn was named for the legendary hero Sir Anduin Lothar, the Lion of Stormwind, who killed the treacherous Medivh after discovering it was he who had opened the Dark Portal and let the Horde into Azeroth, and then safeguarded the refugees of the city as they fled to Lordaeron (including a very young Varian Wrynn, whose father King Llane fell defending his people at Stormwind City).
The lion is the crest of Stormwind, and the sigil of House Wrynn, so it is fitting that Anduin's armor reflects that.
FOR THE ALLIANCE
City of Lordaeron (or in this case it's ruins), the one from the opening scene have this look for 20+ years for sure. And very good example of Anduin's character and you can see of what he's been through in War within trailer. Armor here and in War within basically the same, but it also indicates the hell Anduin saw between these trailers. I would recommend to check Wrath of Lich King trailer, it's super old, but shows that even back than Blizzard video team were monsters already!
That is amazing! I will definitely check it out, and add to the list!
City of Lordaeron was taken over by Sylvanas and her Forsaken. They are undead who live mostly below the ruins in the Undercity, one of the Horde capital cities. Horde players spent many an hour in that city over the years, so it was a big deal that the Alliance laid siege to it
Don't think I will never not get goose bumps when Sylvanas yells "FOR THE HORDE".
i tell you it gets into every cell in my body and i get so fking hyped :D the scream from hellscream and see him pushing forward and the tauren tanks through everyone. epic
That very last scene is a tribute to the very first Warcraft game Orcs and Humans.
Anduin literally healing his whole army seemingly without breaking a sweat is the absolute highlight of this video for me
Lightwave wiped all sweat away
Blizzard did something special for this expansion, by making 5 cinematics colloquially known as the old soldier cinematics, where this trailer serves as the second. They entail a nice, neat arc.
Old Soldier is a trailer that takes place right before this cinematic that adds a lot of extra context. I'd honestly like that cinematic more, since it tells more of a personal story.
And now time for "Old Soldier" series from Battle for Azeroth? :)
Sounds good! Ill add it to the list!
Old Soldier takes place immediately before this battle. @@ChompStudio
There's also Lost Honor which takes place shortly after the battle.
Then There's Safe Haven
The final pre-rendered cinematic for this expansion is Reckoning which is much later
If he likes the particle effects from this one, there is so much variety in Old Soldier that I hope gets noticed.
please god yes, and also shadowlands which is pretty much directly after reckoning and was the trailer introducing the newest (at the time) expansion. They're all so good, and I can't wait to see you react to them. They're all quite short, so it might be worthwhile reacting to them all at once. @@ChompStudio
Also don't forget about "Safe Haven" which comes after "Lost Honor" and before "Reckoning", as well as the Sylvanus "Warbringer" Cinematic which should be watched before "Old Soldier" and gives all the context about what Saurfang's motivations are all throughout these cinematics @@thontor
Basically, watch order should be:
1) Warbringers - Sylvanus
2) Old Soldier
3) Lost Honor
4) Safe Haven
5) Reckoning
6) Shadowlands
What I like about this cinematic is Sylvanas starting with "We've forgotten, what makes us strong." and at the end Anduin is dropping his father's sword and with it the burden to act like a warrior (class in WoW) his father was and instead calls onto the light, like the priest (class in WoW) he was born as, neatly rounding up this short story :D
As he picked up the sword after it, I assume this wasn't the intention of the team behind this, but I do enjoy this thought and narrative circle :D
Awesome reaction! Looking forward to Wrath of The Lich King! Especially if you like Game of Thrones :)
Sounds good to me! Thanks!
To continue what others have said about lion being the symbol of the alliance and Anduin Wrynn being named after Anduin Lothar, the Lion of Stormwind.....Sylvanas also calls Anduin Wrynn, Little Lion....
I strongly recommend the Elder Scrolls Online High Isle launch cinematic. Specifically, the thing that grabs me and so many others is the realism of the un-named knight's movements. They REALLY put a ton of effort into the swordsmanship of the "antagonist" (whom everyone ends up rooting for). I wouldn't be surprised if they brought on a whole team of HEMA experts for the choreography. To design a cutscene in a high fantasy world where elves, wizards and mages exist, to make just a guy with a sword the standout character is insane choreography. His movements are so life-like the it carries the entire animation.
My favorite trailer!
I played the game for about 6 years, never had a Horde character but...
For the Horde of Sylv I get goosebumps every time!
Regarding Game Of Thrones Easter Eggs, one of the scenes in the seventh (?) season of GoT is a direct homage to the World Of Warcraft: Wrath Of The Lich King cinematic.
Oh sweet! I have a lot more WOW on the list so I cant wait to watch that cinematic! Thanks!
I started playing in BFA and really loved the cineatics, cutscenes, and everything, which drew me into finding out more about the lore rather than just playing the game. Some of this storyline starts in Legion Cinematic Trailer, Alliance Broken Shore Cinematic, Horde Broken Shore Cinematic. Also, if you want to compare some of the oldest video to what is produced now, look at World of Warcraft: Cataclysm Cinematic trailer, from 14 years ago, and since they are reissuing classic content the trailer for the newest reboot Cataclysm Clasic Announce Trailer that came out last november, by Hurricane which is now a part of Blizzard.
this cinematic always gives me chills
Regardless of what people thought of the expac itself, THIS is my FAVORITE trailer of WoW. Yes, even beating out Wrath. Maybe even my favorite cinematic even outside just the trailers, though Anduin visiting Saurfang comes close.
It just had SUCH fantastic HYPE moments for each faction, such thrill, beauty, viciousness. It's epic and feels like it has everything plus it looks awesome to boot of course. Love it.
If you haven't yet, I would recommend the SWtoR cinematic super cut includes the 3 release trailers and a trailer for each expansion.
If you haven't watched the cinematics from The Witcher 3. Some of my favorites.
If you really wanna see a masterpiece of a cinematic for it's time, you should watch the first WoW cinematic and Wrath of the Lich King. Imo those two are the top ones BECAUSE of their age. Also from the Wrath of the Lich King cinematic you can SEE how much the Game of Thrones took inspiration on how they made their white walkers, there is even a little nudge to the wow trailer in one of their episodes where the white walkers more or less act out the same scene from the cinematic.
Keep getting this comment a lot...I think it needs to happen! Thanks!
The people making these videoes must feel so proud knowing that no matter how the game actually feels like playing and so forth.
The cinematics is something everyone always agrees on is just sick. ( most..there are neysayers shouting the loudest always ofc )
My Queen... Patty Mattson as Sylvanas voice actor is so f..... amazing
Anduin in the first clip (Battle for Azeroth) is only 17 -18 years old! Now he is around 23 -25 but he looks older because of everything he went through in Shadowlands.
This cinematic was on year 33. War withing cinematic is likely on year 42 (Dragonflight started in year 40 and these days they do keep expansion lenghts alinged with their real world lenghts), so Anduin would be atleast 26 in TWW.
so cool!
Oh interesting! Thanks!
I highly recommend watching all the World of Warcraft cinematics in chronological order to understand the story, I think you will like it a lot!
iirc Blizzard learned a lot about fire and particles when they made the cataclysm trailer - the behind the scene of the making of the trailer showed just how much they had to learn for that
i admit I was drunk at the night this trailer released at blizzcon. Since i started to play WoW i am a horde player and when Silvanas sed "FOR THE HORDE" I almost cry .... 😁
He (Anduin) is known as the "young lion" of the alliance, whos symbology is pride and strength through unity after taking over the throne at young age. He kind of embodies what it means to be the alliance, and embodies a paladin/priest, those who look to the light (a religious belief of sorts) that directs their power as something that on its face is supposed to be seen as the root of good (spoiler alert its not that easy and or straightforward)
hey man, amazing content and in depth explanations, thank you. fun thing is, you are understanding some stuff about power levels of characters and stuff that's happening with those characters that only a player would understand fully, and it shows that the animators of blizzard did a great job a sending a massage through this trailers.
now if you want to get the whole picture, you gotta start from warcraft 3 cinematics up to shadowlands, which show the growth of blizzard budget and specialty in making these story driven trailers and cinematics. it's like 20-ish trailers like this and i'm sure that there are thousands of wow fans that would help you with understanding of the lore and see the progression process of blizzard over 25 years of making world of warcraft
Basically, this world as a whole, is one of the content richest pieces of entertainment ever existed, the game as of now on it's 9th patch , has millions of dialogues, thousands of characters and a lot of twist and turn in it's lore over the past 25 year
The best they've ever done is War Within. It's just amazingly done.
Definitely should react to the KOTR cinematics!!
Never gets old watching my dark lady going into her banshee form, as a player since vanilla the cinematics still dont disappoint (unlike the expansions lol)
Good breakdown
Hey thanks for stopping by! Loved this cinematic!
You should check out the original World of Warcraft cinematic as well, which I think honestly still looks good, and is amazing for its time.
I just never understand, why they did not make a cinema movie animated like this. I always loved their cinematics, they get me goosebombs.
Do you think its too expensive or does it takes too long for such a huge project? I have nothing to do with 3D Animations or anything, but I always asked myself why the WOW Movie wasnt just like their cinematics to 100%
Well, not 10, but 6-7 years ago, this is from 2017. Of course, they're indeed showing off in the new trailer. 😀
However, my all time favorites will remain the three old Arthas cinenatics, two from Warcraft 3, and the Wrath of the Lich King.
Music is also important. Look clibs without music make it deifferent.
Agree!
"I have no light anymore"
Oh yeah!
Their latest trailer is a billion times better from an animation pov
Any cinematic done for the Star Wars the old republic universe is always amazing, Every year a new trailer is released, and each year anyone who watches it wishes they would make a movie already. Any one of the cinematics is great but to name a few "Return", "Hope", and "Two Brothers" are all top tier animation and storylines. 10/10 would recommend for a reaction. Enjoy.
FOR THE HORDE!!!!!
Haha amazing!
Lok'tar Ogar friend
Just wait till "The War Within""
well out of that Expansion only the Trailer is good
PLEASE DO KINGDOM HEARTS NEXT. START FROM THE 1st AND SO ON
I'm always happy to watch your breakdowns, someone who truly appreciates all the work and talent that was put in these videos. It is always a joy to watch and also discover new things with your analyzis even though I seen these a million times over the past years. :)

I realise I sound like a bot lol :D
Please please watching wratch of the Lich King trailers’
Battle for Azeroth trailer is from 2018. Not 10 years ago.
can you please react to Diablo III Ending Cutscene
I think I might have already done that one??
It's kind of sad. This trailer is the best one blizzard has ever made, their art team is second to none. Yet, the devs still continue to put out lackluster content/systems for WoW. Fall from grace to be honest. I really hope they compensate their art team handsomely, because it's gorgeous.
Lol, this isn't 10 years old, it's half that.
