Great video! Appreciate all your information. *Speaking of that..I caught 10 nice largemouth in 90 minutes this evening, all from 3-5lbs on a crawfish fly I came up with. But it was Your 2 hand retrieve that allowed me to crawl them and always be in position to strip set (and not rod set). It was an awesome time. Thanks a lot Gunnar! I’ll be trying to tie and use this Beast on some bass also. Best wishes and God bless. 👍🎣👌
Pure gold as always. I liked the music selection while you were tying the tubes. I am thrilled to have some new meat for pike and musky. Props to you and Bob Popovic!
It's been awhile since I've seen any of your videos. ( You where doing the pheasant rump ) I like the beard, and hair color? Your tyeing blows me away. So awesome
Awesome vid Gunner!!! Do you think it would be viable to make the tail section detachable? Like add a loop on the mono and some from of clip to the back of the shank. That way you can tie two different head types for the same tail. If that makes any sence?
Very cool fly pattern, and are the beeds to help the fly cast or are they just for extra weight? And also are those tubes the kind you would use for steelhead flies?
The Hollow Steel Beads help the larger versions cast, that being said, BEAST cast extremely well without them. The plastic beads, don't add weight, but are still useful as a "dam" to flair the bucktail without the need for Hollow tying
Killer version! I downsized my last beast with this configuration but not this small. Love it!! Do you see any issue with turning the dropper ring 90 degrees and using a reg hook?
Here in canada we have a hard time getting good premium bucktails, you guys in the US get them all🤣. That being said i have made a bunch of these mini beasts for pickerel, smallmouth and stripers and its been amazing.
Hey Gunner I was wondering if you could help me, I'm am trying to build or should I say attempting to tie the beast fly and I'm having trouble finding the stiff straight mono that it calls for so I went to a local saltwater tackle shop and bought 170lb shock leader material and I'm doing the pen and boiling water thing you spoke about in on of your videos question is is this 170lb shock mono good for this the company is call varivas its a 1.17mm in dia . Could you point me in the direction so I can buy or make this straight stiff mono? Thank you and any help would be appreciated.
Hey Sean, 170lb would be VERY stiff for this application. When I boil Mono and make my own, I use 60lb Berkley, or something similar. If you want to purchase the Mono Straights, Google: Perlon Hard Monofilament Leader Material - and it is sold through JB Tackle. 50/60 if tying Hollows in Hand. 40lb is good for working with Extended body BTD and Bulkheads. 30lb is hard to tie on in hand, but perfect for the tube method. All the best - Gunnar
Thank you so much I've been watching your videos for some time and never had the balls to try tying a beast but I recently purchased Bob Popovics book fleye design and I think I'm ready don't until I try I guess. Thanks for the info I'll look them up.
You've been a great inspiration thank you your design and ideas on the beast and all your design are pretty great it makes me want to be a better fly tier .

Great fly! Would love to throw these at GTs, golden dorado and peacocks. Inspire me to clean off the vice and practice my ties.

Another great video!!!
I was wondering if I was going to use this fly for trout if I could use the Spawn shanks??
I just tried to tie one of your flies on your signature hook and it's a lot harder then it seems. My fingers are not happy.
Thanks
