- UA-cam'S FIRST TIE AND CATCH!
We are starting a new series called the TIE AND CATCH where we tie a fly and the go catch fish on... it's that simple. This will enable everyone to see how the fly is tied, how the fly is fished, and how to catch fish on the fly. It's pretty much the total fly fishing package in one youtubve video.
In this video Andrew and our buddy William take on a well known river in Colorado in an attempt to show off how deadly a jig streamer can be when worked close to cover. They end up catching a giant rainbow trout and a giant brown trout in the same day. This is an area where the norm is to throw size 24 midges... but browns aren't afraid to eat a big meal too. Fly fishing doesn't have to be difficult.
I hope you enjoy this video!! #fishing #flyfishing #troutfishing
Let me know if you like this style of video! If y'all like it we can make an entire series around this concept.
I really liked this concept maybe you could do this with nymphs and dries ???
I love this kind of videos! I find it really interesting to see how other fly fishermans build their flies and fish them! Being able to see the entire thought process is really interesting!
Can't wait to see this paired with dries on alpine lakes!!
Keep the amazing work and videos, each time a have that sweet sweet satisfying feeling when I get the notification of your new video!
Well done!
@@michaelgellenoncourt2876 Thank you!!
@@minnerisland0889 We'd definitely do all sorts of flies!
Yeah great idea
Don't have the stuff to tie but would like to buy a few flies to help support Kepp Up The Great Work !
Yeah jig streamers/zonker leeches are amazing, I fish them a lot on an 6 or 8 weight in the size you tied, or I'll also tie much smaller (size 14-18) on a 5 weight. I catch ALL sorts of species with it, trout, bass, panfish, catfish. One of my 2 favorite flies of all time.
This was an incredible video I love the idea of the tie and fish style. The best part of it was talking about how you use it and discussing quickly the setup you're working with. Andrew you and John have done an incredible job these past few years I constantly look forward to your new videos and the fact that you're in two different areas of the country make this very special. Keep 'em coming!
Thank you so much!!
This is a great video! Would love to see a full series of this!
Awesome! Thanks for the feedback!
Me too thanks
Nothing like seeing a West Virginia man on the river with a fly rod. Streamer Flys do work wonders.
Wow Andrew makes an awesome video! He shows us his set-up which fly even how to tie it! Great fishing too, Andrew please make more videos like this.
I'm glad you enjoyed!! More will be coming!
Awesome video! Great fishing day
Btw wow! So glad to see how the channel has blown up over the last couple years. I can remember when you guys were at like 5 or 10k subs. So happy for you both!
Where I'm from in central VA we got three beautiful rivers called the "Hughes" "Rose" and "Robinson" if you ever find yourself in this part of the country I highly recommend.
Great vid btw👍
Tight lines! great Content Keep It Up! 🎣🎣
At 19:30 what a stunning specimen with such an amount of red spot!. And that beautiful powerful rainbow…what a fishing day in that gorgeous river!
Great job guys!
Amazing video man. I’m going to the White River with my cousin this coming October to chase fall browns. He told me bring my streamer rod. I can hardly wait.
Awesome video, guys. Definitely like the new format. I've been following you for a long time now (since spin fishing WV creeks). I'm from WV but live out west now, so it's nice to see fishing from East and West. Loved your North Georgia content as well. Keep up the good work!
I really liked the tying portion at the beginning. I think you should do more of it. But the video is awsome, keep it up
That streamer is not effective don’t tie it or fish it…. I repeat it does not work
Great video Andrew! I really liked the tying portion at the beginning and then seeing it in action. Awesome catches as well!
Nice video. Good looking fish. For that short range stuff just tossing the fly out there, even consider a tenkara? I carry one in my pack as a backup and for when I get into close quarters where using the reel and loading up the rod really isnt an option.
How many trout are you going to kill fishing a fly with a #4 B10s riding hook point up? Most of them,....
Try tying this pattern size 12 jig hook wide gap tie in black rubber legs and copper wire wrap the rubber legs around for the body then counter wrap the wire then tie in some cdc next to the bead whip finish
Brother idk you did it maybe its just me but your voice only came through my left ear and it really gave me a headache, i really love your videos though and im trying to sell some fly-fishing gear if youre interested let me know!
Gurglers on fluro Tippet and sinking lines make big trout crazy
Interesting your buddy has a Mt Bachelor Beanie, that's from my hometown bend oregon lol
Andrew aren't you living in Colorado now and agree with others great video you guys put out the best enjoy them so much
Very nice video! ✌️ With greating's from Europe 👍🙂
That was a good day fishing, well done. That was a long fight with the rainbow. Maybe leave the fish in the water when you release?
I live in Denver, sure wish I could recognize this well known river!
There's only so many spots that look like this. You gotta get out there and explore!
pretty sure it’s on the south platte area
Great concept. There's nothing better then catching a fish on a fly you tied yourself.
You got that right! Thanks for watching
Great video, nice fish, and beautiful scenery. What state is this?
Best fly fishing channel to date. Keep it up and thank you!
Thanks for the kind words!
The green river, first section below flaming gorge reservoir in Utah has got to be one of the best out west.
DUDE! You just show up and the fish are summoned.
Like your videos. Been using a pattern called the Rabbit Strip Jiggy which is a rabbit strip (Zonker strip) on a hook with a double tungstun cone (med or large size - put them together to form an egg), or a tungstun bead, at the head, right behind the hook eye. That's it. The strip is attached by impaling the hide over hook point and tying in the strip in front immediately behind the cones. The strip is straight on the fly - parallel to the hook shank. The hairs are on the hook bend, hook point side. That's it. Fly rides hook point up. Don't need accoutraments, they usually just take away from the fly's effectiveness. Been using it for 20 years or so. First wrote about it in Fly Rod & Reel Magazine in 2010. I'm a streamer nut and innovator and that Jiggy is one of the greatest trout streamers of all time. And perhaps same for many other species as well. I've lectured around the Country about that fly's effectiveness, and written more about it as well for quite awhile. Caught IGFA records on it too. You're finally catching on. Have enjoyed and followed your videos for a long time. U do a real good job. It's good to watch a good fisherman fish and catch too. Mark Sedotti
Thanks Mark. I’ll be using the Rabbit Strip Jiggy this year from the Esopus to the Upper D. 👍
Hi Mark !!! It's me Tony Panasiti, How're you my friend! I can't belive I came across in this video comments. I guess even the sport grew a lot, fly fishing still a small world🤣 we all have our favorite killer flies, you know how I love that leech pattern I always use....
What leader setup with tippet are you using on that contact 2?
Can I ask what state you’re fishing?
What other colors would tie this same pattern
Hi Andrew. Do u ever throw those jigs off a euro rig?
Love these videos, what shoes do you use with your waders?
What an awesome video! What camera do you use?
Way to go Andrew! Tie. Teach. Catch. Love this video Andrew!
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it.
Great video love that kind of stuff
i love all your vids man trying to be like you 💯
🔥
Super pozdrawiam z Polski
Is this 11 Mile?
Was this 11 mile canyon?
I grew up in Utah. An older gentleman that lived in my neighborhood, took me under his wing and sent me on a path. That was 1982. I was 12. Thank you Lyman Duke.
Good job, and yes I do like the tying the fly and then fishing it! Question on when you are fighting a fish - why do you keep pulling line off the reel?Just curious. Thanks, Dave
Very nice location
Just had you recommended to me by the algorithm and hey, finally it did something right! Got yourself a new subscriber from Germany who fishes streamers on UL spinning gear like the heathen he is.
i'm genuinely curious if using a fly rod or spinning setup is better for fishing with larger streamers, an ultra light setup would handle those no problem, maybe even be a little on the heavy side. Does using a fly rod give you any advantages over a spinning setup? I'll be trying fly fishing this spring for the first time and i'm trying to figure out the when's and where's for breaking out a fly rod
Nice fly. It’s been a couple years since I’ve fished that canyon, kinda surprised you found some water for yourself. Last time I was there it was way too crowded for me. Ended up leaving when a guy came up and started fishing the same current seam I was, and the dude was directly across from me. Somehow he thought that was normal.
Def the hunting rifle
Looks like a spin on the matuka streamer great adaptation with the bead head for more of a jigging action normally they are tied with a cone, lead eyes or just a lead wrapped body.
At about 16mins in, is that a fray in the fly line or some sort of piece of grass? It was giving me so much anxiety thinking the line was gonna let go!
Always enjoy your vids. I remember pulling two browns from under the same rock near Vail. I want to say the Eagle River, but could be way off as memory is dimming. I do remember my browns not being as big as yours. Oh and that rainbow was a doozy.
Another amazing adventure and video! Really loved this video beyond the fishing though and it was you edited and put all the shots together along with the music, plus the bonus fly tie session.
One ask, maybe it was my laptop speakers, but I had a little trouble hearing you on the tying lesson because the background music seemed too loud. Otherwise would be happy to see more.
One other observation that I hadn't picked up on and that is that the Browns have the same red spots as a Brookie but a completely different body and without the blue halo's around the red spots of the Brookie.
Stunning scenery too even though you were limited to the body cam. What temperatures were you fishing in?
Cheers.
It's been a while since the last HFA West video. Jon needs a break from the cold after falling in the water in his last video. 😂
Love to see more
I dig it! Nice pattern. I tie something similar for a small creek near me but I'm using a size 8 hook and mink zonker strips instead of rabbit. If you haven't tried tying with mink yet, I suggest giving it a shot! It's kind of in between pine squirrel and rabbit in the length of the fibers but it has amazing movement in the water.
Yes sir really enjoyed it all , keep on tying and flying , it goes hand in hand with those of us who like the science behind trout fishing , very well done 👍
This approach is extremely entertaining and we can learn to tie the pattern as well! What could be better? Thanks for sharing! Ron, NE Iowa.
Where are you
Lovely video ❤ regards from Macedonia 🇲🇰
cool tie. love the dark winter browns and bow. please tie your family heirloom mini articulated streamer. rage on
Colorado anything is ok with me. Great tying and beautiful fish.
Looks like it’s time to get some new fly line !!! Awesome video super simple fly and super effective
prettttttttty
Casual occasional viewer…. am I losing my mind or are you the same gent that’s in all the other videos like the Amazon fishing challenge? Beautiful scenery in this one btw and some gorgeous brownies (and bow)!
Well we’re two brothers that run the channel… and in this video Andrew is fishing and in most of the videos (like the Amazon fishing challenge) I’m fishing (Jon). So I can see how it might be confusing if you don’t watch many videos 🤣
@@hardmanfishing ahhh now it makes sense. I don’t think I’d ever seen a video with your bro!
Love your take on this fly. I've caught some of my best fish on a similar albeit plainer version. Gonna have to try my hand at tying one of these. Love the vid style👌
Very nice bro, always enjoy your videos. If you ever come down to Brevard NC let me know
Awesome!
snagged?
Makes me want to wet a line, but I'm too old to get near water for fear of toppling over. Thanks for the fish-along!
Nice tie. The way that you tied this fly it won't matter if the slot of the bead is on top or bottom. The rabbit strip will make the hook keel hook up. Always looking for good winter flies, this looks like a good one.
So gorgeous there! Love all your videos! Ty for sharing the beauty with us! 🙏🏼💕
wicked cool video! Gave ya a sub!
Thank you!
Great video! I like the concept of teaching and then showing how to fish the streamers.
Loved it, this an excellent idea for a series and I can't wait to see more! Thank you!
Awesome video. Really cool approach to show the flies and then how you fish them!
Beautiful location 🤩😊
Love the videos watch them all the Time, our Seasion starts in a week and i am so excited
Good job Hardman. Nice streamer pattern.
im gonna watchur vids either way you do it =-)
NICELY DONE with the streamer man!🙂👍 That was kinda cool to see what you made and how effective it was. Gorgeous catches bro.🤯👍 Do you guys do any camp, catch and cook kinda thing? Just curious is all. Big fan of the catch and release to promote the fishery, plz don't get me wrong... was just curious. Lovin the vidz up there in the Colorados my friend.....it's absolutely breathtaking up there. Keep em comin and as always....Peace ✌😎
I think I may try to do a catch and cook this year. I've done several camping videos. But I'm glad you enjoyed the video!
Love the rock slapping!
Wo! Way to go gentlemen. What a day. Thanks for the tie and the footage.
Another great video! Thanks!
Great video .. winter streamers 👍👍
Please continue to do videos like this. 👍🏻
Thanx man, really enjoyed it. Beautiful landscape, beautiful fish, great fishing!! Thanx for your work!
I'm glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching
Dude I honestly think that’s your best yet great job Andrew
Thank you!!
I enjoyed the tie and fish video. Hope to see more of them
I really appreciated the tying of the fly. Then sharing leader and rod info along.witg the fishing. You guys make extremely professional videos
Glad you enjoyed it
great job! more like this!
How do you find so many perfect fishing spots. All these boulders are super cool but I find I can never find spots like this. How far are you hiking to get to most of your fishing spots. Great Video btw, would love to see a series with the fly tying
Depends, this one has a bit of a hike to get into it but it's not too bad. But thank you! Glad you enjoyed the video
I watched this video literally 3 times and enjoyed every minute. Awesome water, awesome fly tieing, and simply awesome fish. Thank you so much for this video and making my day. Keep tieing and catching and always tight lines. Tony
Thank you Tony!! Glad you enjoyed it
I fish a micro version of that for Brook Trout in West Virginia. Super effective. I remember one day i had a hot fly and I cough so many they ate all the fur off the rabbit strip and were still hitting the fly with just the leather attached. It’s something special when those WV brookies turn on. Awesome video I’d love to see more!!!
WV brookies are so fun! Thanks for watching!
wow fish are dark in dat stream
