    been working as a nurse on nights for 7 years! its takes time but most important thing is BUILD A ROUTINE, always have healthy snacks on hand, water while working. Use blackout curtains if you need too as they can also help with falling asleep. It'll be hard at first, but you'll be fine :)

    • @Hwaniiee

      Omg 7 years night shift is amazing!! I think what yo said about building a routine is actually such a story advice for me cuz I’m a guy that relies on pattern and consistency!! So def will be following night routine now 💖🥹 thanks for being so open and supportive ❤

      @@Hwaniiee no worries! And yes, building a routine will take time. But once you do, you’ll have consistency as I’ve been able to do that on nights till today. I’m also one that needs consistency as well so that’s understandable. You’ll have some nights where there’s going to be ups & downs but you’ll learn from them and improve over time! If you need any tips or tricks for night shift, just shoot a message and I’ll help in anyway I can! :)

      hello there! can I ask if you can choose your days of work in a week such as 3 days 12 hour shifts? I'm a student nurse and still deciding if nursing is for me lol

      @@oblivionade i work full time so i had applied to the night shift line 8hr shifts as I work in long term care so 12hrs are an optional and same with wanting to work 16hrs shifts is an option. as someone that started night shift security about a year+ ago, whats important is sticking to the routine and sticking to the time you need to do things. its gonna be tempting to stay up because you're gonna wanna be social and do things but nightshift requires a lot of sacrifice. find a time that works best for you to sleep but also still have a balance of things you want to do as well. for your first time doing the night shift (or anybody reading this for that matter) my best advice to get adjusted is the day of your first work day, take a nap hours prior to your start time. once you wake up, you'll feel either refreshed or tired but awake, and then go on about your night. if need be def get a celsius/energy drink that can keep you up for the first few days then after a few days you should be fine. its not healthy, but I can switch between third and another shift whenever now
    good luck people!

    As a med-surg nurse that’s been on nights for almost 2 years, my advice is to have a routine on your days off whether or not you swap back to a day shift sleep schedule or just keep the same routine as you would working. Make sure you meal prep for your 3 shifts in a row. Also, in your first year of nursing, Do NOT pick up extra shifts even if you feel like you can. It’ll help prevent burnout in the long run. The first year of nursing is the hardest because you’re learning on the job so make sure you take as much time off as you can to recharge. Leave work at work and enjoy your life outside the hospital. Good luck!

    • @Hwaniiee
      @Hwaniiee  7 місяців тому +4

For example, if you are bad at time management you can start off by saying, "I tend to loose track of time so in order to better manage it I do x, y and x. I learned this from the youtube channel Professor Heather Austin. She has a video series on interview questions I highly recommend to everyone!!

    Total honesty here, I've been nursing since 2008, and I've done 1 day of overnight. My body just didn't like it so I've always pushed for days. I'm currently a trauma nurse practitioner, and also work for an Urgent Care which I also only pushed for days. Once you do it, just see how your body adjusts. You might even like it better because you don’t have to deal with admin.

    I've dedicated 13 years of my career as a CNA working night shifts, and I wouldn't have it any other way. The secret lies in maintaining a strict sleep schedule. Personally, I aim to be asleep no later than 8:30 am, without exception unless there's an appointment or something urgent. I find I only need 5 to 7 hours of sleep, so I typically wake up around 1 pm or 2 pm.
    For those prone to FOMO, adjusting to this schedule might be challenging. However, it's important to remember that working nights can be a temporary phase, not a permanent arrangement. Besides, since most people are occupied with their 9 am to 5 pm jobs, sleeping until 4 pm doesn't disrupt much.
    Weekend shifts might present a slight challenge with sleep, but it's manageable, and again, it's temporary. Congratulations on earning your MSN! That's a significant achievement. Your ambition to pursue further academic and career growth as an NP is commendable and sets you on a promising path. I'll be embarking on my Entry Level MSN program this fall, and your video has left me feeling inspired and optimistic.

    Nursing jobs usually have a pecking order. It's pretty common to start out on night shift before being able to switch to another shift. My preferred shift was PMs, but I also worked as an RN for the State of California. There was always mandatory overtime. So I often worked 16hrs (PM and Noc) starting at 2:30PM and ending at 6:45 AM. Even after working 16hrs you still had to show up for work again at 2:30PM that same day. Most places have Nursing shifts of 12 hours. You work 3 to 4 days on, then off for 3 days. Wash. Rinse. Repeat.! Gosh. Could this be why there is always a shortage of nurses and the reason for a profession with chronic, debilitating burnout? Needless to say, I managed to survive 19 years working multiple mandatory overtime shifts a week. And I was even able to retire with a well earned California Public Employees Retirement Service pension. So hang in there. If you survive one whole year in bedside acute care, then your reward will be the multiple opportunities available to you. Stay positive. You can do it!

    You can start working on your own skincare line now in the current moment. As a side passion project. You have some knowledge to help you, a platform, some resources/networkings with skin care professionals (if I remember correctly) and the dream to do it. Everything doesn't need to be in a certain order in life. Good Luck.

    I work at a dermatologist office with 7 NP’s. As long as your NP license is in ‘family’ it doesn’t really matter where you start in the hospital. Most of the NP’s I work with have spent time in the ICU.
    I’m in California, if that makes any difference - NY might have different licensing requires for NP’s to do Derm.

    Hi Kai,
    Not sure why but so far NO ONE in the comments even mentioned this:
    WEAR A FORMAL SUIT AND TIE TO THE INTERVIEWS.
    Not just any suit: Wear matching navy blue suit and pants.
    Your belt color needs to match your suit shoes.
    Wear a formal tie; no smiley faces, random weird designs on it. Solid or stripped.
    This is your first impression before your interview.
    DO NOT wear that puffer jacket going forward on your interviews.

    Awww congratulations!!! That's a huge achievement!! I'm so happy for you❤ I would love to work as a nurse in NYC for a while but kind of hesitant about the pay as it is ridiculously expensive to live there... so would be very helpful and interesting to see the whole financial side of being a nurse in NYC?🤔

      @Hwaniiee  7 місяців тому +2

      It’s sooo fun to live in nyc and there are a ton of opportunities to meet diff connections and ppl but I will say it’s very expensive😭 but I still moved here regardless of that so it all comes down to what’s ur preference and goals!! But you got this and if you do move to nyc I guarantee you will amazing connections and friendships💖💖

    i did night shifts for a 1.5 years. my best advice, don't do it. its completely unhealthy for your body but more importantly it throws yours social life and existing friendships into to the toilet. yes the work is easier so i would only recommend part time.
