How do you balance control and freedom in parenting?
Licensed therapist Jonathan Decker and filmmaker Alan Seawright are reacting to the family from The Croods. They discuss the family’s fears of everything new and how fear stifles their growth. Jonathan explains how the Croods family models present-day fear and control in parenting, and he shares how to encourage curiosity with healthy boundaries. Alan explains how subtle, clever filmmaking techniques serves the believable family drama between the Croods.

This show says to accept positive and negative but want look at negatives of accountability. People shouldn't be accountable to who's want to have general sense of self as I'm not good enough. Looking at what you want wrong at is making excuses and hold them the same standards they put on and looking at all factors is Passing blame

This movie make so much sense in my family dynamic. After studying sociology and being the butt of every joke I have seen how they open up to the knowledge I give them. Last week my father, the surgeon, told me he failed philosophy on hid first year of medicine and felt stupid because he felt like he was only good for technical stuff, studying manuals and then mindlessly cutting away. I admire him cause he is always studying, and is his influence that made me dream in thinking outside the cultural box of my family.

I love the croods. It shows how important families are. Even when they are not perfect or crazy ideas but shows love to each other.
Eve’s dad is overprotective of his family because he shows how much he cares for them but he also learned that making mistakes and going to their own path makes the family stronger.
Eve is rebel because she never had a time to grow up so when she met guy she learns about being on her own and learns what is real love. Eve never knew until his dad makes a hard decision to put his family first that Eve realizes that he make many rules becase he was scared to let go .
Eve’s dad also realizes that she does not need anymore protection because she’s not a child anymore. Her dad learned that it’s hard to let go but it’s for the best to make the family stronger.

Had a feeling this movie would show up sooner or later.
I like the scene over the ocean, when Eep dismisses Grugg's warning but follows Guy's warning. Since Grugg impulsively labels everything as dangerous even when it isn't, he ends up being treated like the boy who cried wolf, while Guy assesses reasonable caution and safe execution. I also like when the family gets separated, and Grugg repeatedly finding himself back where he started illustrating how stuck he is in his mindset.

This is one of the few movies I can rewatch because the visual storytelling and the message are stronger than my aversion to repeat experiences. I remember stories so well, I just don’t find value in experiencing a story I already read/watched/played more than once. The Croods is different and well worth rewatching on occasion! (And a lot of other stuff, too, but they are the minority.)

Oh heck yeah, I love The Croods, I find it underrated and more people should give it a shot. Originally yeah I fell into the trap of “oh it’s just gonna be caveman humor for an hour and so” but years later realized I slept on an awesome movie that got much better going into it with an open mind, especially since the message revolves around having one and using innovation to keep finding new ways of resolving problems so you advance with the world. It’s wonderful.
Also the running gag of Grug thinking his mother-in-law died is hilarious.

This movie was such a huge influence of my childhood! I love the designs of the creatures and how each family member is an animal (also the textures in the animation OH MY GOD). The message is so beautiful and it honestly taught me how tribalism works. Grug is so much like my father minus the glasses, and Im somewhat like Eep. We haven't reached the point that they are at the end of the movie and honestly I don't know if we ever will. But I can thank this movie for how open I am to hearing new people's stories and how curious I am of the world I haven't seen yet, also my obsession with the buff woman/thin snarky man dynamic.
