They are some of the most emotionally radiant, soft boys with big hearts ever put to paper. Let's just say that these movies are a while lot of crying. Also: 28:25 😂
Aragorn is literally everything that actual men should look up to and aspire to be. I encourage you to go watch Cinema Therapy's video about Aragorn and toxic masculinity if you love Aragorn and want a breakdown of why he's so excellent as a character and as a man
Orlando has since said that he always felt like that scene was basically a commercial for lembas. He said “I feel like I’m making an ad for this stuff!” 😂😂😂
It reminds me of the endings of Casablanca and Roman Holiday, two old black and white films with heartbreaking love stories of which Frodo and Sam remind me. If you’ve seen those films, you get what I mean. 😢❤
Holy crap, I was expecting a 12-minute clip show but this is an hour and change. You not only have a lot of things you like about LotR, you are friggin' THOROUGH.
I was always so sad about how much the ring and all the stuff that happend affected Frodo. He was so innocent and happy in the begining but after everything he was so different and almost, empty? Idk it always made me sad.
Now every time I see the scene where Sam says “If I take one more step, it’ll be the farthest away from home I’ve ever been” I just imagine the like 10 hour video where that clip plays literally every single time Sam takes a step towards Mordor. Literally every god damn time.
0:26 still such a beautiful and picturesque shot. I’ve always loved it, how quiet and calm it is in the woods while Frodo’s reads his book waiting for Gandalf
But what he propounds is absolutely valid...Sam must keep his head clear and free of the Ring's "voice", lest fighting break out between our 2 stalwart heroes, like it eventually did betweens Frodo and Sméagol.
What gets me is that the Ring is twisting Frodo’s genuine loving concern for Sam. The last thing in the world Frodo wants is for the Ring to sink its metaphorical talons into Sam, and he’s so terrified for Sam’s safety that he wants to keep the Ring away from Sam. The Ring then does its brainwashing tricks, trying to make him believe this is because he actually wants it for himself. It takes something noble in Frodo and tries to twist it into greed. It’s terrifying.
I’d like to highlight this quote of Sir Ian McKellen’s from the DVD commentary tracks: “When I suggested to Sean that he took Elijah’s hand, it was because I thought anyone who knew the book would care about the deep friendship - often of a[n] innocently physical nature - and that that might be missed by two resolutely heterosexual actors who might not appreciate that gay people like myself saw, in a touch, something perhaps more meaningful than others might. And so to persuade him to touch Elijah, I’d say, ‘Well, look, it’s in the book.’” I think that speaks for itself.
Smeagol-Gollum lived for decades without the Ring. And mortals in Valinor heal, and only die when they choose to. I am quite confident that Frodo and Sam were reunited in Valinor, as both of them expected and hoped for.
Tolkien wrote an epilogue that was not used, but which expresses Sam's longing to be with Frodo again. Even his daughter Elanor realizes that Frodo was Sam's lost "treasure." Elanor was silent for some time before she spoke again. ‘I did not understand at first what Celeborn meant when he said goodbye to the King,’ she said. ‘But I think I do now. He knew that Lady Arwen would stay, but that Galadriel would leave him. I think it was very sad for him. And for you, dear Sam-dad.’ Her hand felt for his, and his brown hand clasped her slender fingers. ‘For your treasure went too. I am glad Frodo of the Ring saw me, but I wish I could remember seeing him.’ ‘It was sad, Elanorellë,’ said Sam, kissing her hair. ‘It was, but it isn’t now. For why? Well, for one thing, Mr. Frodo has gone where the elven-light isn’t fading; and he deserved his reward. But I have had mine, too. I have had lost of treasures. I am a very rich hobbit. And there is one other reason, which I shall whisper to you, a secret I have never told before to no one, nor put in the Book yet. Before he went Mr. Frodo said that my time maybe would come. I can wait. I think maybe we haven’t said farewell for good. But I can wait.
I don’t think Frodo or Sam could die unless they were together. Besides Tolkien said that the Valar granted Frodo the ability to “choose his time” as part of his healing, so he was able to linger there as long as he wanted/needed to until he was ready to pass into the afterlife. No doubt he always remembered, missed, and waited for Sam. In the epilogue that Tolkien wrote but didn’t publish, Sam hears “the sigh and murmur of the Sea,” which is basically his yearning for Frodo and sensing that Frodo is yearning for him too. (Btw for the record this is all some of the most romantic stuff I’ve ever read and I think it’s wrong of people who don’t ship them to shut down/insult people who do ship them. I mean listen to this! It’s Brontë sisters-level pining!)
Its the bond of brotherhood formed in times of great hardship - i.e the Great War which Tolkien fought in as an officer and profoundly affected him. Its much like the Iliad and Achilles and Patroclus. There is a lot of context about war and its influence on the bonds shared between men that is lost on modern audiences. (Though there are plenty unambiguously gay moments in a lot of Ancient Greek writings, but much as culture varies around the world today, so we can't apply modern gay or Queen concepts to what Ancient Greeks viewed as appropriate sexual relationships between men, which were very different from modern ones and always emphasised dominance and submission).
@@elanorallmann right, or rather, being a real *human*. If anything the whole gay reading, since it's not an explicitly gay relationship, feels more like what a school bully would say: "Oh you two guys hugged? lol what f*gs". I know this isn't the intention of the uploader of the video and there are LGBT+ advocates that legitimately want Frodo and Sam to be gay and that's fine, but there's a point where you are involuntarily doing a disservice to the gay community with this reading. Actually Lindsay Ellis' videos on LOTR explain this quite well.

if you think the movies are gay, literally just wait until you get around to reading the books. this is an actual real excerpt from Two Towers, and please do read the whole excerpt: "...Frodo after a few mouthfuls of lembas settled deep into the brown fern and went to sleep. Sam looked at him. The early daylight was only just creeping down into the shadows under the trees, but he saw his master's face very clearly, and his hands, too, lying at rest on the ground beside him. He was reminded suddenly of Frodo as he had lain, asleep in the house of Elrond, after his deadly wound. Then as he had kept watch Sam had noticed that at times a light seemed to be shining faintly within; but now the light was even clearer and stronger. Frodo's face was peaceful, the marks of fear and care had left it; but it looked old, old and beautiful, as if the chiselling of the shaping years was now revealed in many fine lines that had before been hidden, though the identity of the face was not changed. Not that Sam Gamgee put it that way to himself. He shook his head, as if finding words useless, and murmured: 'I love him. He's like that, and sometimes it shines through, somehow. But I love him, whether or no.'" That's page 307 of The Lord of The Rings: The Two Towers by J.R.R. Tolkien, published by Ballantine Books, the publication edition in question published by arrangement with Houghton Mifflin Company, ISBN 0-345-33971-1. I'm giving you more detail than you need because I need you to believe that this is an actual quote from the actual real book that I own.
Jolyn Henry that’s literally one of my favourite quotes, and one of many Frodo x Sam moments in the book. They hella gay, and Sam should’ve married Frodo, not some random girl I can’t even remember the name of.
@@opheliastardust9107 yeah like if I HAD to choose a single all-time favorite quote from the books that would be the one. I literally think about it constantly (as a side note if I had to choose a single favorite quote from the movies, it would actually be a different one, esp since this one didn't make it into the movies)
Jolyn Henry yeah, I’m also disappointed we didn’t get the moment where Frodo sleeps in Sam’s lap, so he’s safe from Gollum’s prying hands. We were ROBBED, I tell you 😭
Without a doubt, Sam and Frodo's bond would be seen as romantic if one of them were a woman. So what if there's people shipping them? This is fiction, and being gay isn't wrong. That scene when Sam follows Frodo and almost drowns 18:35 always reminds me of that Titanic scene where Rose jumps back to the ship to be with Jack
This is so heartwarming. The physical affection between males is just beautiful, both in the books and in the movies. The actors are close friends in real life to this day! And I am terribly glad that the ridiculously good looking Elijah Wood and Sean Astin were cast for these films; their Frodo and Sam obviously have a strong connection which strikes me as being romantic.
Their chemistry is off the charts. I feel like Sam was in love with Rosie and Frodo at the same time; his heart’s certainly big enough. Frodo most definitely encouraged him to marry Rosie, knowing that he could never give Sam everything he needed and deserved (children, normalcy, peace, etc.) I like to think that: 1) Rosie knew how they really felt about each other and gave Sam her blessing to go after Frodo when she was gone, and 2) after Sam became a widower and reunited with Frodo in Valinor, the Elves gave them a little wedding ceremony with Bilbo and Gandalf as witnesses. ❤

The mere fact that samwise went with Frodo changed everything foretold of frodo's death he was not alone. Samwise was with him. He would have failed otherwise.
Aww, you left out one of my favourite bits. When Gandalf knocks on Bag End's door and Bilbo shouts that they're not accepting anyone else asking about the party. Gandalf, more amused than anything, calls "And what about very old friends?" At once, Bilbo swings the door open, and steps out, not quite seeming to believe who it is. "Gandalf...? My _dear_ Gandalf!" And _runs_ out to give him a hug, sounding like he might be about to cry.
Sam: spends all 3 movies making sure Frodo stays right beside him Frodo: Decides to leave Sam at the end of movie 3 because he wasn't /feelin' it/ anymore Sam: "DO NOT GO WHERE I CANNOT FOLLOW!"
Frodo didn’t go where Sam couldn’t follow. Sam was a Ring Bearer too; Frodo knew that Sam would one day be allowed to cross into the Undying Lands. And he was. 😊

It's really heartbreaking tbh :( Frodo deserved like 0% of everything that happened to him
Frodo was chosen. He had to finish the task whether he chose to or not. Not everything that happens can be our own decision.

Tbh? Yeah
lotr is a bl drama and there is no possible way by any stretch of the universe you can change my mind
You're right and you should say it
55:46 at this point Frodo is already "addicted" to the ring...
without a doubt
As someone whose first name is Sam, this is some ego boosting material.

I’d like to highlight this quote of Sir Ian McKellen’s from the DVD commentary tracks:
“When I suggested to Sean that he took Elijah’s hand, it was because I thought anyone who knew the book would care about the deep friendship - often of a[n] innocently physical nature - and that that might be missed by two resolutely heterosexual actors who might not appreciate that gay people like myself saw, in a touch, something perhaps more meaningful than others might. And so to persuade him to touch Elijah, I’d say, ‘Well, look, it’s in the book.’”
I think that speaks for itself.
Love Sir Ian McKellen so much

46:20 lol smeagol/gollum is so offended that sam would imply he's sneaking and then sam goes "what WERE you up to then?" "...sneaking..."
Me when anyone asks me what I've been doing
I cried during last scenes. I cried very hard when I realized, when Sam sails for Valinor, Frodo may be long dead or not remember Sam at all. :'(
I refuse to believe Frodo could ever forget his Sam
Smeagol-Gollum lived for decades without the Ring. And mortals in Valinor heal, and only die when they choose to. I am quite confident that Frodo and Sam were reunited in Valinor, as both of them expected and hoped for.
Tolkien wrote an epilogue that was not used, but which expresses Sam's longing to be with Frodo again. Even his daughter Elanor realizes that Frodo was Sam's lost "treasure."
Elanor was silent for some time before she spoke again. I am glad Frodo of the Ring saw me, but I wish I could remember seeing him.’
‘It was sad, Elanorellë,’ said Sam, kissing her hair.
That look on Elrond's face when Merri and Pippin ran out from hiding was priceless😂
They're coming out of the woodwork!!
@@JolynHenry 🙏🏾🌿
I'm not a huge fan of the "two male characters show mutual care&affection THEREFORE SUPER GAAAAAYY" reading but this video made me cry nonetheless
Yeah, I wouldn't call it gay either. I would just call it human caring, friendship, love, loyalty... being a real man.
@@Skiriwowi as part of the lgbtq+ community i approve of sam/frodo and i think they should have been made more than friends had this not been written in a time of homophobia, as do many other members of the community

Tysm for this! I haven't read the books yet but Sam and Frodo are clearly in love with each other and you can't change my mind.
if you think the movies are gay, literally just wait until you get around to reading the books. this is an actual real excerpt from Two Towers, and please do read the whole excerpt:
"...Frodo after a few mouthfuls of lembas settled deep into the brown fern and went to sleep. But I love him, whether or no.'"
That's page 307 of The Lord of The Rings: The Two Towers by J.R.R. Tolkien, published by Ballantine Books, the publication edition in question published by arrangement with Houghton Mifflin Company, ISBN 0-345-33971-1. Very very romantic, they have really good chemistry
@@jaytwokay3265 You're here to troll? Pfft.
