I do not give a fuck is Linux is better or not then Windows. All I want from Linux and I have it is freedom, fully control of your computer and OS, no viruses, open source software and more privacy. All check. Thank you and good night.
I like both, but my experience has shown me that linux is not there yet for what I want. KDE plasma is a hot mess, I cba to customize xfce to my liking. I like GNOME, especially ubuntus twist but there is still the underlying "problem" that is Linux. I've been switching back and forth because one time windows is the worst, then I use linux and linux is the worst. I think windows will be my choice of primary OS but no OS is the best, it's a matter of preference.
@@felipehwowIt only stuttered for me the very first time I ran it on Fedora 39 with KDE and Lutris works very well for me. Having Nvidia proprietary drivers certainly helps. I mainly need my Windows installation for EverQuest Project Quarm and Fortnite or whatever else has anti-cheat that doesn't work.
As a new Linux user, I can agree with that... I installed Zorin OS 3 times, and it only worked on the third try. I did nothing different each time. Then I downloaded Mint because Zorin didn't have the driver updates in the kernel that would allow my microphone and bluetooth headphones to work... But then I learned... neither did Mint. So I switched to Ubuntu 24.04 because it did have those drivers. My headphones and mic now work... but of course I selected download additional software during the install process... which completely borked my machine because the Nvidia drivers are buggy. Fortunately... I know how to use a computer! So I deleted all nvidia drivers from the terminal then installed the open source nouveau driver which finally let me get to the desktop. But then of course, my cursor was a big white square instead of.. you know... a pointer cursor. For some reason, Ubuntu didn't have some symbolic links set up correctly so it wasn't finding the cursor image to display. No problem for a computer user like me though! I set up the link and now my cursor works. Choose Linux. The OS for people who know how to use a computer.
Many still prefer windows to linux for gaming. With the recent advancements of proton and wine however we can expect linux to begin eating away more at windows's marketshare of the gaming community.
Here is why Linux is great: 1. System stability 2. Linux is highly customizable 3. Security - Linux is more secure 4. Privacy, no tracking!!! 5. Price 6. Performance 7. Transperency - can see all the code 8. FULL Freedom 9. Portability - can put the drive on another computer and it just works 10. More options 11. Live system update while doing something 12. Less Bloat Here is why Windows is great: 1. Familiarity 2. More programs on Windows 3. Better customer support Conclusion: Windows is great, but Microsoft started stuffing spyware and bloatware into it.
Depends on who the user is. GNOME is more user friendly in the sense that it prevents constant comparisons to Windows or expecting it to behave the same. KDE and Cinnamon are more user friendly if people absolutely have to have a Windows-style layout.
Overall, Ubuntu is a good OS. It provides software like GIMP, Inkscape, Blender, and Krita. You can also find unofficial versions of Figma. If you are using any specific software, please check its availability on Ubuntu.
idk what you're doing to make the file manager "responsive" but that's not what it looks like when I make that comparison. Windows 7 blows everything I've used on Linux out of the water on performance and features. Right-click on something and more than half of the options are for one overhyped feature. Where's the cut/copy/paste options? How do I create a new text file in this folder? Why doesn't it remember that I've changed to list view 100 times already? Why can't I add a shortcut/link that points to another drive? Things you would have expected to be there 20 years ago are nowhere to be found.
Many of the things you mentioned can be done in Linux. Dolphin File Explorer adds extra features and is compatible with various Linux distributions. Gnome extensions allow you to customize, like adding folders to the desktop. It's totally fine if you prefer Windows over Linux; each OS has its own feel. I use both ☺️.
@@NHSoft I actually hate Windows and am sour that the alternatives are not even on the same page. Linux has been a never-ending battle with the basics. :(
Cyberpunk is not available on linux!? Then what have I been playing? The majority of games I download on steam run fine. The issue is when it's a multi player game with anti-cheat. Also: You can install playstation emulators if you want to play GTA for playstation 2 or playstation 3. Granted: Compared to Windows there are still titles that need to be supported. But if you're not a hardcore gamer, then it's not really that much of an issue. When I started on linux games where limited or close to non-existent. But all that has changed a great deal.

You don't know linux. I use both for work, web and gaming. Linux is more simple than Windows to work. For Web it's the same for both but Linux offer more options and stability. In gaming, it's more complicated on Linux and some games doesn't work with anti-cheat but in general i have better performance on Linux and less stutering. On Windows in 6 month you can have 10-20% in performance drop because of drivers, update, instability of Windows to keep the os the same. On linux you can keep your system clean and the same for years without codes or command line. Command lines are not mandatory...it's a power if you know how to use it.
