15 years ago, when struggling with a Pod XT, I'd never have believed I could get such amazing tones out of digital gear. The price is ridiculously good, and those 'profiles' you loaded sounded fantastic.
Impressive capabilities. I was not expecting it to have IRs, and user replaceable is even better. Only 3 is fine, people get bogged down in option paralysis with IRs IMO. Being able to add the captures is truly amazing.
Actually it only has one IR because it's global. You can upload 3 to the pedal, but they're not saved on the preset, so if you want to switch the cab you need to open de software. Major bummer.
@@ok-tchau just curious because the size is perfect for what I need, couldn’t you make 2 identical patches with the only difference being the IR so you can switch between cabinet sounds on the fly?
I know it get said alot but man we really are in a golden age for guitarist in terms of access of different tones. I would have loved to have something like this when learning. My first amp was 10watt Samick with no distortion lol
I own a GE250 and the MNRS profiles and tone capture is what sets Mooer multifx and, now, stomps ahead of others, IMO. Maybe this product will draw attention to MNRS profiles and more pro creators will start doing it. The Tone Capture in the GE250 is also very nice, it's just an "auto EQ" but a very unique feature that really enhances the unit. Even when the factory model of an amp is not so great you can grab a better one or try to match some amp or plugin with Tone Capture and get better tones.
If you consider how much digital information a program like Amplitube takes up in terms of bits/processing, utilizing similar programming in a system that requires no visual UI it is no surprise that this pedal sounds as good as it does. I mean, this pedal (and most multifx units) is basically a smart phone, which is just a miniature computer, without a screen to touch. I guess the point I am making is that this sort of tech is reaching the inevitable ceiling for innovation vs cost and I am curious what is coming next to raise that ceiling.
That’s an interesting point. I always assumed it would be leveraging your phone for processing power, but it might just be that as processors become more and more advanced that we see 1% increases in tone every year 🤣
I love this pedal, with one exception, read below. I've downloaded someone's profiled Rockerverb 100 with a Mesa Oversided IR that people have put out in the Mooer network for download and it's the best profiled sound I've ever come across. I'm a Neural Gojira user, Line 6 Stomp and Headrush MX5 user and I always prefer the sound I'm getting off the Preamp X2 due to the sounds I've been able to download from the Mooer network. The problem and why this pedal misses the mark, there is no Global EQ! If you run it into an FRFR speaker you have to use a Global EQ to cut the highs or you'll destroy your ears in minutes. I have to cut the highs. I'm stuck using another pedal to use as a global eq, the Mooer Radar in my case. They both require different power draws which makes this a hassle to run a minimalist board. Mooer needs to apply global EQ's. We're not all running these into guitar heads, when going FRFR it's an Ear Nightmare.
In all my years of recording and playing its come down to this for me, amps for live application are just about redundant, this pedal along with so many others out there right now would deliver an incredibly accurate and clean mix when paired with quality IR's, not to mention the tones through a speaker cabinet dude, WOW.
I remember being really interested in the preamp pedals and the preamp live, this is definitely huge! My only gripe is that the controls on the pedal itself and how presets work are confusing to me, but I think that's just the collection in general. Would love to see this in a shootout!
Hi man. Great video and good job! I have some Mooer micropreamps (brown Sound 005, cali dual 011 etc). I'm thinking of buying this x2 preamp. Can you please tell me if the sound of preamp x2 is different (worse, better) from these micropreams? I'm asking because I know you've made some videos about Mooer micropreams. Thank you in advance for your reply.
Very good review! Do you know if those simulations include the power section of the amplifiers? Or if it's possible to choose between the preamp only or the complete set of preamp plus power section?
ordered one 224 canadian dollars cant wait got it because tired of buying multi effects units and pedals just fore one or more amp models and most of the time they got one good one and the rest is ok but not happy now only have to worrie about effects if i dont like the amp got tones of options to chose from this is going to save me lots of cash
Hi Taylor, what are you thought between the Preamp X and the Moer Preamp Live? I already own a Mooer GE150 and happy with it to get fast and good tones but i want to expande possibility for reamping in studio and have not budget for a Kemper or other expensive solutions. Really like what Mooer Preamp live offer but this new Preamp X look great too.
What would you think about loading this up with a few captures from the GNR files and shoot the amp and cabs sounds out against the Quad Cortex or Axe-FX and HX Stomp or Helix! That would be very interesting.
Well, the app of X UI looks prettier and the thing is way smaller. Live has 3 banks of 4 preamps (less fiddling), effects loop, XLR output (DI), MIDI, and additional physical power amp toggles (for XLR and jack separately), more knobs. Based on this video the sound quality seems to be a bit dull on both (but well, this is UA-cam) so good for metal. I have the Preamp Live and IDK why it is a bit... smutty sounding and the digital noise hints about poor isolation. So, X is a lite of Live with perhaps some improvements on UI. Would be nice to get a prettier UI for the Live although it works but is butt ugly. :D
Lol. Your music is WAY too heavy and dark for me, but you're such a nice person so I've watched 3 of your reviews. Keep up the good work. And play something NICE- people WANT to like you! 😁
I dont know if its just me but the output signal seems lower and tends to clip after around 60 of volume when connected to pc. My input gain is just fine and when my guitar directly connected to audio interface, its not clipping at all, but with this lil monster, it seems like theres a limiter around - 10db, its not hitting the 0db limit.
Taylor. Bought it brand new from Amazon. Can't register it because they say serial number already used. I've filled out support request three times, no answer. Ever hear of anyone having this issue? Would sure like to download some tones from the samples and can't. Appreciate any tips. Love your tones.
Thanks dude! No idea. I'd say if it's through Amazon, just return/replace it. Maybe it was one that someone bought and returned. I've had similar experiences with Amazon reselling returns as "new" items before, but not specifically with any mooer or other guitar related product (that I know of)
Is there a good capture of Mesa MkIV for it? I'm trying to find Mooer 017 at reasonable price (so far nobody wants to sell it 😊) and I was thinking about this pedal as an alternative because of its custom IR loader and other cool features, but it has Mk3 built-in AFAIK.
Dude, I have two questions, please. Is it worth me discarding a flamma fs07 and fs06 to just use the mooer preamp x2 or will I lose sound quality? Or another option, I use the mooer preamp x2 with the flamma fs07, but the x2 with the cabinet simulation turned off of course. What is better??? Thank you in advance if you can help me, brother.
I think the main reason to use the Mooer X2 pedal would be being able to load your own (or downloaded) Mooer studio samples (amplifiers/stompboxes/cabinets). That's the biggest selling point above any other preamp pedal.
So straight out of the box what amps come on it? And are they the same as what's in the individual micro preamps? EDIT: well I saw the list when I looked ur the pedal but Is it the same tech as what's in the individual micro preamp pedals?
I curently own the mooer 005 ( 5150 ) and I’m thinking of switching to this one instead, but i’m not sure if the sounds are just as good. I would use the pedal in front of an amp. Any suggestions?
I just ordered one of these, it will complete my Mooer X2 collection lol. I have the pricey stuff as well, Earthquaker, EHX, Eventide, etc…Mooer octave is the ONLY one that lets you choose the note so on my monosynths I can make 5ths 7ths, (those are a little trickier, you need two but it does work) then I use quad and double the whole thing, very very phat sound! So to the point of this product I play guitar too but mostly am into synths and looping. I’m hoping to find a Roland keyboard amp on the site! I am very excited about getting it especially, I got it for $87.00, as an Amazon gift return. I’ll guarantee you some dumb ass kid says Mooer? I want an Orange or Laney not knowing crap about it! I dig all the Mooer pedals and have the entire X2 set. The looper pedal is a mini looper too, the reverb and delay are incredible! I use them on everything!
For $169 American, it should go fetch me a beer too! Damn, in this economy I'm better off w/my Marshall's! It's more cost effective! (Never thought I'd hear myself say that about Marshall's!)
