    Nice numbers for just a cam swap, im building a LM7 with gen4 rods and flat tops, around same card as this cam, 92mm intake, 92mm TB, ported and big valve 706 heads with a lil 150 shot. 1997 RCSB

    I have a question I'm doing an LS swap on my 73 I got a 6.0 out of a 2003 Yukon Denali and I was wondering what type of cam I should use and pistons. My budget for the motor since it was free is 4 grand

    I wonder how well this would work in a 6.0 I’m putting in my s10? I would be using 243 heads instead of the 706’s. I sure do like a lopey idle.... this might fit the bill?

    Is it okay to push the limits like this? The lift on this cam is .624 and these springs are only rated a max lift of .625. Comp Cams recommends a different part number for this cam. I already ordered this cam and the 26918-kit. Will I have an issue?

    • @andrewhodgkins9134

    I have a question. I am curious, what would an adjustable timing set do in these cases?
    Both on the stock Ls9 and the Comp cam. Say they are advanced 4-8 degrees. What would it do to the power and torque curve?
    Thanks in advance. I really enjoy all of the work you all do to inform us. Richard is definitely my top viewed “UA-camr” .

    Richard can you tell me if the Comp Cams 13472/13159, 237/250, .367/.358, .624/.609 will work on a Gen3 5.3L stock piston to valve clearance? I know you have used the 454 and 469 cams previously, but I can get this one at a very nice price and the truck will be a mild street truck/daily driver. Thanks

  • @strikeforce4581
    @strikeforce4581 5 років тому

    Roughly a stage 3 cam stage 2 will do the same just you won't have to wind it out to 7000 rpm for the standered 5.3 backed with a 4-6 l60e you don't wanna really revv past 6500 rpm on stock trans you gernaid your gears. Plus the stock springs unless they fixed this past 07 are good for 5500 rpm that's why at 600-6200 the valves sound like they flout. Because they are but not to the point of destruction. They went cheap on the springs for the major mass production engines. Where the 06 express van with a last gen 350 runs the upgraded springs and will revv up to 6000. The downside to that engine is it's got the junk destribitor caps that crack at any time.

    Hello. Probably and stupid question but I have a small truck that I am putting a 05 lm7 5.3 in (it’s a Chevy luv) I am planning and just regasketing the motor and adding a cam and maybe some calve springs. I had found a summit 8701 cam for a great price . My question is what are you thoughts on this cam and would I be better off with something different. I do want a little bit of chop at idle so it sound like it has a cam..lol. It’s more of a driver than a full race truck but definitely not a driver every day. Been watching a lot of you videos and enjoy everyone I watch👍

      Of course! Any LS will show big gains across the board from a camshaft upgrade. The stock cams that GM puts in these motors are extremely tame.

    So, you have no problem hitting 6,5K RPM on stock high mileage reciprocating bottom end? I got a donated GM gasket set from my ex-coworker still at multi-line dealer. Says something about a guy who closed the dealer at 9PM with for over a decade. I plan on inspection and plastic gauge the lower end. Just for longevity as I won’t e able to do this again for daily driver but with EFI convenience. I can’t work clutch anymore at 6’3” in 53 year old truck. Ironic, ASE Master since 78 and fixed 2,500. Vehicles per year, now on foot. New record!

    Why can't anyone do a cam test from 0 rpm for all us blokes who never drive at the track ? Every dyno starts at 3000 rpm , literally losing a third of rpm the third we all drive in from lights to lights !

    • @matthewstorm5188
      @matthewstorm5188 2 роки тому

      Because people are trying to sell cams. Maybe if more people saw that a cam actually LOST power below 3000RPM, more people would reconsider cam upgrades. We might also see more mild cams that are actually MILD rather than the high 220s/low 230s cams that pass for mild these days.

    I have a 4.8 what's a good cam the motors in a Volvo 122s 6 speed trans

    • @johnnyyahoo9867
      @johnnyyahoo9867 5 років тому

      The Comp Cam will behave better with more cubic inches (as cams with more duration and lift do). Less cubes (4.8) means wild cams don't behave as well. LS9 is certainly cheap but has a huge LSA with moderate to high lift and duration. LS9: 211/230, .562/.562 122.5 LSA. Large LSA means the intake and exhaust valve events are further apart and cause more tame idle, broader power band, lower max torque, better vacuum. I have a 5.3 and I am curious how this Comp Cam idled (probably not real nice). I'm sure it's off-idle performance would be flat but that's what high stall converters are for :)... but then deal with crappy around town drive-ability. Also, consider reliability. The more lift you go, the more you need to bite your nails about breaking/bending/damaging valve-train parts (cams, rockers, push rods, lifters, trunnions). I would consider 5.62 lift (LS9) moderate-ish. I'd like to target 5.50 (call it about the same).
      To answer your question more directly.. If you're on a budget, get the LS9 cam. If you you're willing to spend more money (a few hundred more than an LS9), contact COMP or any of the big cam manufacturers and tell them your objectives. They'll be happy to help. Good luck!

      Ok cool. I wanted to put the 54-454-11 cam in my 4.8 with these springs or a set similar. Is that grind cam good for everyday driving or just the occasional cruise to the track?

    • @Compcams1976
      @Compcams1976  5 років тому

      @@bossgang2x In a 4.8, that cam will not have a ton of low end, however it will perform very well in the top end, especially with better flowing heads/intake/headers. Depending on what it's going in, you'll probably want a 2500-3000 stall if it's an auto. With a well matched breathing combo, that cam should make power up to about 7000 RPM, and you'll probably need all of that to get good numbers from a 4.8.
