They probably needed the money to get to Tahiti
I HAVE A PLAN

There’s always a goddamn train!
Hah!
Funny story- my grandfather helped play the soundtrack for the movie that was made about the Great Train Robbery ( the film was made a few years after it happened). He was arrested after trying to buy a piano with his wife, who upon noticing he was hesitating over the price, said (quite loudly and without thinking I guess) "you have the money from the Great Train robbery". Obviously, she meant the money from the film, but the staff in the shop immediately notified police and he was taken in, as they hadn't caught all the suspects from the ACTUAL train robbery. He was let go once he explained the misunderstanding. Hilarious to think that even for a short moment, my granddad was considered a suspect.
Oh my god that’s hilarious, it’s always great when you have cool stories from your relatives to share
Noticed you were wearing an Isle of Man Railways shirt. Glad to see you traversed our rails at one point.
Nice. Enjoyed this one thoroughly. Thank you guys.
Could we hear about Thomas Blood trying to steal the crown jewels? Great content 👌
Brilliant idea, we will get a little bit of research done sometime. Got hundreds of ideas to sort through at any given moment so it's refreshing to almost lucky dip it and see what topic comes up next hahaha
The Van Der Linde Gang would have gotten away with it.
"I'm not a controller yet" haha. Bit of light hearted fun, I like it.
Glad you appreciated it 😂.
Born in the same year and grew up hearing countless stories. Another well produced documentary...well done young chap.
I’m not sure if it would be popular but I would love to see a video about British railroad history in general
That’s a long term project in which we do intend to do at some point
Iv only got one thing to say conner " Romanian dead lifts" 2x per week, you will be glad you did, I promise buddy, good video, i was brought up watching and listening all about it 🏴✌️

Great work
There were a few books published on the 50th anniversary of the robbery. They didn't in my view give much new information about the actual robbery but offer a fascinating insight into our pre digital world and confirm what I remember as a teenager at the time. The gang put an offer in for a house, their hide out, and obtained the keys (for decoration purposes) before contracts exchanged, spent large amounts of cash on cars etc....few people had bank accounts back then and credit cards didn't exist, cash sale was the norm, travelled by car at night when there was little or no traffic about on false number plates. The list goes on. As to the convictions I doubt any would stand up in today's criminal justice system.
Dutch needed that money for his mango farm in Tahiti
Who on earth is Ronnie Briggs (several times)?
Jones cannot read & he's stubborn so once something wrong is in his head he says it the wrong way anyway
@@DecadesVideos There are lots of mis pronounced words and names in this story
biggs not briggs
Great video 👍
Briggs ?? I thought it was Biggs 😂
Brilliantly made video.
I've got a good true story for you. When my mother was pregnant with me my dad and her went to see Engelbert Humperdinch at the London Palladium in 1990. Charlie Richardson happened to be there and kept looking at my dad. Eventually he said to him "Were you one of the great train robbers?" He knew he had seen him somewhere before but couldn't remember. It just so happens that my dad was looking for his alsatian that went missing and rumours about the Richardsons had an alsatian. He only drove into his place unannounced and Charlie was fuming as you could imagine. My dad was talking to him for a little while and the last thing he said to Charlie was that he had a nice place which Charlie didn't answer. My dad was absolutely without fear in his youth. Lol
Show someone hospitality and open up your home, 24 years. Aiding and abetting in a train jacking, 3 years.
Oh ain’t that a little… old fashioned nowadays?
My theory regarding who gave the intel on the train robbery is a man that was often described as "discouraged man"
Nothing moved in Glasgow without The Godfather's ,Arthur Thompson, knowledge, so i wouldn't be surprised if it was his job,and being a friend of the Krays,no one would know, or speak out?
ahhhh a Tahitian vacation in the making i see.
Rumour was that Colin Chapman, the Lotus team owner was the Brains 😊
To stop a train all you need is a set of battery jump leads.
The Dutch grandson 💀
It would be nice if you got the names right
I know this isnt a maritime history channel but do a video about the ss Edmund Fitzgerald
No history is off limits! We’ll give it a gander
@@Fizhy it's unique in the sense of none of the crew survived no one nos what happens
The great Emu war when ?
Would absolutely love to make a full on video on it to be fair.

Ronald Biggs not Briggs
It's a wonder The Kray brothers weren't involved with this train robbery.
London, let alone the UK isn't that small!
ronnie biggs not briggs lol lol
Traumatized so bad from getting robbed that you have a heart attack at 34? Wasn't even his money getting stolen 😂
To be fair they gave him a whack.
Ronald Arthur Biggs
biggs biggs biggs no r biggs RONNIE BIGGS FOR GODS SAKE DO RESEARCH
And the amazing thing about it is that they didn't hurt anyone and I think they got a raw deal
Except they coshed the train driver who was never the same again.
That's is true but they didn't kill anyone at lest they had class but I do feel bad for the driver
I read or heard a few years back that they used coshes and banned anyone from carrying guns because although hanging had ceased, it hadn't legally been abolished. Judging by the sentences given out, if someone had been killed I bet the whole gang would've been hanged.
The second man on the loco didn't live long either. I remember it well, the Country was finally dragging itself out of poverty and austerity, things were getting exciting for young people, the Beatles, new fashions, new architecture, more spending power. The fact that this gang screwed an old fashioned, tired and unpopular Government did result in a lot of public sympathy. They were a gang of common criminals after all though. Of course, they never caught the Mr Big!
The Driver was an idiot,, wasn't his money, just let them get on with it 😊
The presenter needs to spend much less time in front of a pc, and far more time outsde and in a gym, sort out the diet and lose lots of weight, or he will die young of obesity 😮😢
Congratulations you just fixed obesity. Well done.
His DAD worked for a train?!? What kinda disney channel supervillain backstory bs...
Dutch always has a plan
