Black Lives Matter. Spirituals, secret swamp churches. The underground railroad. 10. 5 million humans being transported to the new world. This Spiritual moves me to tears.
That was heavy duty.... I got here by accident.. I used voice text to search for drift away by dobie grey and this popped up so I gave it a listen.....it's wonderful !!! Thx..🤟
so beautiful, I've not heard this setting before... I'm applying for this scheme this year and I have an audition coming up. Crossing my fingers but after I've heard how good these people are I'm feeling a bit daunted!!
I've just listened to these Tippett "spiritual" choir settings for the first time, pointed towards them by singing teacher. Is it allowable to say that I'm rather underwhelmed? I don't find them very emotionally moving, very spiritual, even if they're technically well done, with some nice harmonies, and delivered (typically, as here) by some very trained, very posh-sounding English classical singers. Very accurate, one might say beautifully sung, but... expressive, heartfelt, emotive, spiritual? I'm not sure about that.
They were the Genesis Sixteen group chosen for a week-long course in Summer 2013. A very fine year, in my view! thesixteen.com/education/genesis-sixteen/
Do you mean how they soften their consonants and drop their 't's? That's intentional. This is (an arrangement of) a gospel song / Negro spiritual, so it wouldn't really be appropriate to enunciate everything in the same way as you would with other contemporary choral music (e.g. Howells, Britten etc.).
I'm moved to tears every single time I listen to this
Tippett’s composition is amazing. This small choir does an excellent job capturing the essence of this.
A very moving, beautiful performance. Thank you all.

Beautiful! Congratulations!
Love it, but everyone is the wrong color.
Beautiful voices, although the diction is awful. I can't understand but a few words.
