For anyone reading this: I know that dog training can be difficult sometimes, but you're doing great. Keep up the good work, and your dog (and your own sanity) will thank you for it! ❤️💕

I literally needed this today! I have a 7 week old chocolate lab who so far has been doing incredible. But this morning he was super challenging, and after a really defeating morning, I sat and cried once he fell asleep in his crate. After a bit of spiraling I just clung to comments like this and all of the other great training here on youtube. Thank you for this positive message, new pet parents like us really need to hear it ❤

1.5yo Newfie. My first command is always "stop" to freeze him in place. Lets the pup know to chill because another command is coming. "Stop" before we cross the street, then "let's go" when all is clear. "Stop" --> "Sit" so I can take off or put back on the lead. If being stubborn, I'll add the name --> "Fido stop" to get his attention. Close to reliable so far, but still working on "stop" when he sees a person or dog he wants to make friends with and breaks.

@@takemasu45 With my bouncy lab girl, I use "wait" to merely indicate a pause that I will release fairly quickly at first. I also use the hand signal (flat palm toward her, fingers pointed up). Start small - a pause at each door, before each meal, etc. Gradually increase the excitement level like when you toss a toy.
Is the problem your dog is overly rambunctious when greeting people or other dogs?

Hello from west Texas! My hubby and I just recused a dog from a local no kill shelter a week ago. She’s a great dog, very smart, good natured. She barks at men, though. She loves my hubby when we’re in the house, but anywhere else she acts like she’s never seen him before. Never bites. She’s not been aggressive in any other way. Wondering if she just needs time or if there’s something we can do to help? Thanks!

I love your puppy. IMHO GSDs are the best. My four-year-old female rescue GSD, Sadie, wears one of your orange Fenrir collars :) Is Rudy working line or show line? I presume working line from the coloration. Sadie has the black and tan coloration of a show line but the straight back and short thighs of a working like. I guess she has no true line of descent but she is a very good girl.

Does anyone know when his long line slip leash is back in stock? I’ve been wanting it for a while as it would help with recall training but it’s always out and Christmas would be a good time to order it. Any information is appreciated. Thank you

we changed our lab girl's name - easy peasy, just charge her name in the first couple of weeks. (not as a recall, not expecting any behavior. when she is reasonably close, say her name, give a treat.) good luck

My dog just turn a year old never had much training but was never reactive to other dogs but started barking/pulling about 2 months ago and is also been getting nervous by strange/loud noises and wants to run home after. Is there one thing I should focus on first?the stress or the reactivity?and how do I do it?

Could you make a video about the dog habit humping? I wonder why some dogs is being a target by other dogs for humping. All dogs incl my dog are desex but my dogs seems being a target humped by dogs who has interest in humping. I understand humping is normal but this kind of behaviour is upsetting lots of dogs. Not all dogs appreciate the humping behaviour

Thanks Will. Do you have some tips for an older small dog. I’ve had dogs for most of my life, usually border collies or kelpies. About 3 months ago I took on a 6 year old fox terrier, chihuahua mix and suddenly I’m stumped on some of her training. I think she must have been left in the backyard for her previous life. She’s not toilet trained, and I don’t think she had had any training. Are there different approaches to use with little dogs? So many people are taking on rescues these days but I don’t see trainers talking about issues they may face. I’ve just been going really slowly with commands and being consistent; just because she seemed to know it yesterday doesn’t mean she remembered it today. Any advice?

If you train your dogs correctly, is it necessary to get them neutered? I have my first puppy and I'd like to train him correctly but I don't know how I feel about getting him neutered. Have every vet and trainer telling me that it's the responsible thing to do.
But I feel like if I train my dog to have manners will never be a problem for me or him.

My biggest fear is a dog pulling on his leash, getting loose and have an accident with a really big truck - this happend with our dalmatian, when I was a child - he lost 3/4 of his back leg and it was, because my than 12 yo. brother slipped on ice and the dog tried to run to our home over that busy street and was hidden by the truck...we never let him run freely 😢 he lived 8 years.😢😢😢. I think my parents made a lot mistakes with his training (in the 70es)

I love your channel. Like the way you train and it’s clearly very effective. I learned the hard way the dangers of Cesar Milan style negative reinforcement. I had a Bull Mastiff mix who would have killed Cesar. He didn’t like being kicked, even if not hard, because - get this, being kicked kind of sucks. I took him to a Cesar style trainer after having these issues of fear build from my own attempts to train him and they did the little kick correction and he gave a full teeth I’m gonna kill you the next time warning. All the dominance stuff was stupid as well.
That said, I have a hound and I’m seriously considering an e collar - which given my experience and learning about positive reinforcement from a behaviourist - I’m a little wary. Seems most hound owners use them as there is basically nothing that is better than a good scent or trail. And they are just naturally stubborn. Of course rewarding whenever they come.
Do you have any ideas regarding this? Maybe I’m missing ideas for a good reward that might be preferable. Or would you simply suggest the exercises you have already suggested and just keep at it? I would love to be able to let him off the leash, and there are some places I have where I can safely, but I’d like to be able to do it in more places.
Thanks again for the great videos.
I’m just wondering if you have any advice for training hounds I guess in general.

That's because it's clear you need to learn to get yourself into the pack leader position first and that involves food training etc! Caesar style isn't Caesar training!

🤣🤭I tend to get in a high voice, that I never would use in annother context, I Sound like Mini mouse, use in the first place one word, more a Sound for good and another in a fitting Tone for bad. The name of the dog is simply, get in eyeycontact, some month later it should be basic to need only a word or gesture after eyecontact to get him step on the side to let for example bikers pass, get left or right and back or wait or the leash is not optional.

Ok smart guy, how do I potty train my 3 year old dog and her 4 month old puppy? Both have decided the place to poo and per is inside the house and I can’t figure out how to correct it. I clean it as best I can but certain areas of the house must smell like a truck stop to them.

    • @OldworldWitch
      @OldworldWitch 4 дні тому

They have learned that they have no option, than poo in their home, mostly because they were locked.
Take them out every 30 minutes, if they do poo or pee outside rekord them extremly, they will maybe need time, but it will work. And get proper cleanen, keep them in a area that is to clean easy, like the kitchen, if not Supervisor.
