    This was useful to see as an Oriental Orthodox young woman who grew up in America that were all going through the same things, sometimes you feel like its only you. God Bless, thank you I'll share this with others :)

    "Abouna" (a-boo-na) is the form of address used for the priest in an Antiochan Orthodox or Coptic Orthodox church.

    The Orthodox Church is the original Church as established by Jesus and the Apostles. So it only follows that what ever they do is right. All of the other Churches are missing HUGE chunks of Christianity.
    Instead of just asking a question and leaving it there why don't you go along to a local Orthodox Church and find out what it is all about for yourself? :)

    Wow the girl’s confessional testimonies gave great insight_reminded me that its important to recognize when we fall, but instead of staying down we needa jump right back up and keep fighting the good fight!

    Thanks for explaining confession and the role of the priest. We Baptist don't observe it. But, the sacrament does make sense.

    What a beautiful video. Makes me very excited about being able to go to confession when I'm received into the Roman Church. Congratulations on the election of your new pope!

    I can perceive that you have a zeal for your Catholic Church which leads you to make such a remark. It would be a good idea to redirect this zeal towards unity and not towards picking out differences. Marriage, as Tim mentioned, is not a novelty among the priesthood - it's always been there. In addition, spiritual marital advice is most properly offered by those who have practised it, and nothing in Canons or Scripture prohibits priestly marriage. I respect the Catholic Rite, nevertheless.

    Only those in the latin rite remain single and unmarried. There are several other rites within Catholicism (that is, those who are in communion with Peter) that marry.

    Recognizing sins is good, but it should be more than that. One goes to confession so that he may rid his heart of its spiritual impurity. If one does not do this, how can he be absolved?

    Abouna is the Arabic title which Arab-speaking Christians use to address their priest. It means "our father". Abbana means "our Father" and refers to the Lord God.

    Jesus died so that we may LIVE entirely through him and for him. When we stray away from this, there is some work to do.

    Enforced celibacy in the Catholic clergy certainly seems to be a problem... but many Orthodox monks are priests too, and they're celibate. Plus Christ taught us to be tolerant of others and to love them. There are problems in the Catholic church but it's only up to God to judge, not us. Calm down, brother :) all of us humans were created in the image of God. Orthodoxy is the most direct path but it's not the only way. Only God decides.

  • @Lovecannon
    @Lovecannon 12 років тому +2

    You do realize that there are still celibate priests in the Orthodoxy? Bishops are almost always chosen from the celibate clergy (usually monastics)

  • @Veshgard
    @Veshgard 11 років тому +13

    Eh, what? No. Just no. I'm sorry, but that's not true at all. Confession is an essential Sacrament of the Orthodox Church, and you are required to confess your sins in order to be able to take Communion. I say this as a person who lives in an Orthodox country. Ask any Orthodox priest, monk, or nun.
    Of course, there are many people who consider themselves Orthodox and who don't go to Confession. I bet that happens in America too. Just like many people don't go to church at all. But it's wrong.

    @MegaKrishan123 Orthodox Priests are married..... They get married before getting ordained as Priests. However, if a Single Man is ordained as a Priest he will have to remain Single and if the wife of a priest passes away, the priest cannot get married again. Blessings.

    The Catholics left the fold, not the Orthodox. There were 5 ancient Patriarchates. Rome was one of them (along with Constantinople, Antioch, etc.). When the Bishop of Rome declared to his Equal Brothers (the other 4 Patriarchs) that he now had King-like powers over them - he removed himself and your church from the ancient Faith and created a new one. Rome had a place of honor, not universal jurisdiction. If the thumb removes itself from the hand, it is not in and of itself the hand!

    Now that's quite the non sequitur you got there. I've heard reports about Orthodox priests molesting children too. Pedophilia is a human problem and it's not limited to any one denomination or profession.

  • @JohntheJigglyuser
    @JohntheJigglyuser 12 років тому

    Celibacy in the West is much more complicated than that, but I guess it's much easier just to chalk things up to Rome's supposed evil.

    The Roman Catholic Church came from The Orthodox church. Please open your thoughts to the holy fathers and their books and writings and you will see what is the true church.

    What are you talking about?? Ofcourse we confess our sins in Orthodoxy! please stop making your own interpretations, be humble and follow the Church that follows Christ as Christ taught us to follow him!

    both the Apostle Paul and Jesus Himself were celibate and single. Jesus did say in the Scriptures that some become eunuchs for the sake of the kingdom. St. Paul in 1 Corinthians 7 declared "It is good for a man not to touch a woman",showing his preference for celibacy. It stands to reason therefore that at least for clergy celibacy should be mandatory (in the Latin tradition) or preferred (in Eastern traditions)

    that is not true, monastics are unmarried, though I do believe Holy Orthodoxy has stayed most faithful to Jesus.

    I wonder why they confess their sins and perform baptisms but at the same time believe that Jesus died for their sins. Seems contradictory to me. It's almost implying that Jesus didn't fulfill his mission.
