You may have missed the chilling moment if you didn’t catch the significance of the lyric referencing the assassination of Martin Luther King. Great reaction as usual you guys and stay safe.
This song is well known in the US as a tribute to MLK Jr. Bono's soaring vocals really define the chorus. Definitely 80's drum sounds! A famous, early live performance is "Sunday Bloody Sunday", at Red Rocks. Thanks so much guys for the Women's Day wishes!!
This IS the real U2 sound. This song & the earlier Sunday Bloody Sunday and New Years Day is what made them so special. Forged by a childhood in the Irish/English conflicts they became passionate warriors of social justice, freedom, equality & were very anti war. I was privileged to see The Pride in the Name of Love tour & it was magic. No special effects, just incredible musicians & an incredible front man, all equally deeply passionate about the music and having that connection with the audience that is a gift. 30,000 people poured out on to the streets of Toronto that night feeling united, uplifted and hopeful about the world. All of us singing Pride together as we headed away from Maple Leaf Arena (sadly no longer there). They became famous as we knew they would & used it to fight for causes & people. They made a lot more incredible music, I have no argument with that but the more famous they got, the more magazine covers declaring them The Greatest Rock Band in the World, they changed in ways those of us there from the beginning never expected. I worked in the industry then, met and spent time with them professionally on more than one occasion and they were everything you would expect and more. As time went on I started to hear stories I hoped were untrue about how they’d changed, Bono and The Edge in particular. By the time of the Zoo TV tour it was an open joke, in Toronto where they had spent a lot of time and were loved, leading up to that show there were a lot of morning radio show jokes “Bono in accident, hit by Toronto Island Ferry, captain shaken, he never expected pedestrians on the lake”. I went to that show and it was painful for those of us who’d seen them at Pride (Unforgettable Fire), Joshua Tree or Achtung Baby (if you liked One, please react to Mysterious Ways) it was devastating. There was more set and “show” then music and that connection with the audience, the passion and sincerity were gone. Arrogance was centre stage, the music less important then the self importance. Through work I was lucky enough to interact with a lot of equally & more famous musicians and the very best humans among them didn’t change. They may have had to take normal precautions that come with large scale success but one on one or on stage they never lost what made them special. There was an inevitable U2 backlash, especially strong during the iPhone album preload controversy and I think that helped bring them somewhat back down to earth. The Joshua Tree anniversary tour had most of the old magic. It’s also true they never stopped their charitable work or activism. That was always sincere, if a little distasteful during the changed years when it felt more about the credit & press for good deeds then the actual causes. That also went back to sincere with a little bit of wanting attention. Its a classic fame cautionary tale about letting success change us. The strongest or luckiest manage to avoid that trap. It always felt like U2 were a band that wouldn’t lose themselves so it hit harder when they did. The music is still incredible pre Zoo and again after the rough patch. Their message though is too important to be lost because of a period when they personally were lost.
100%. Their amazing sound - this was the best of U2
My favourite U2 song!! I always remember this, way back in 1984, I was in the HMV record shop in Edinburgh during my lunch hour and this song came over the speakers and I was blown away!! I asked the guy behind the counter who this was and when he told me, I bought the single right away, I've loved it ever since! Thanks so much for your reaction to my favourite U2 song, guys, great reaction as always, thanks for the 'shout out' regarding International Women's Day, all the best, take care and keep safe. ❤👍
It's beautiful and so are the lyrcis.
U2-"Bad"- LiveAid Wembley 1985. Thanks
Bros, you'll love their "I Will Follow" and "Sunday Bloody Sunday"!!
One of the best & most powerful U2 songs. I never tire of it 👍
My favorite sound style of U2, along with "New Years Day" and "Sunday Bloody Sunday.
Larry Mullins known for banging his drums HARD!
Thinking of you two with the news going on from Georgia. Stay safe.
Watching the Reuters live feed tonight (17:00 ‐ 18:00 my time, 05:00 ‐ 06:00 Tbilisi) I can't help but wonder if any of the news agency staff, filming from behind and within police lines, feel the least bit conflicted given that they are the very people who would be required to register as "foreign agents" under the proposed legislation being protested? 🤔🤨
U2 changed their sound every album until 2001
Sometimes the "quality" of the song is not defined by the "sound" they supposedly find later. Sometimes you have to understand why they wrote their songs. (this one is about the assassination of Martin Luther King). Another song is Sunday Bloody Sunday. They may not have found the "sound" you prefer yet. But if you understand the song is a tribute to a violent incident that took place in Northern Ireland, you again might get the chills. U2 was a very political band when it first started with their 80's sound. They later became a more "polished" band and more "pop" band that you like so much better. I'd rather have the raw early sound with deeper meaning behind the lyrics than the slicker sound with more shallow lyrics they later developed. IMO
Joshua Tree is their BEST album, hands down...
@@Wolverines77 Great album, but I like WAR better. These guys like the 90s and newer sound. All music is subjective.
One of the all time great songs in my opinion. I remember this so vividly in the days of MTV. "Sunday Bloody Sunday" was another one.
The music is so overwhelming that sometimes the lyrics get ignored. U2 has always been a socially conscious band and their lyrics
carry a lot of weight. Definitely worth pondering...This is still my favorite out of all their great songs.
Their Super Bowl performance post 9/11 is amazing.
I think this song is the epitome of U-2. The rolling guitar, drum etc can be heard in their other works. Plus they brought attention to what was happening in Ireland and educated through their music a younger generation …like a call to rally…helped set the stage for a new revolution on a global stage.
80s U2 will always be their best to me
I graduated from High School in 1984. That said, I have noticed the protests in Tbilisi. My favorite U2 song…..I remember people trying to escape Russia through the iron curtain. Caught on a barbed wire fence….omg. 🇺🇦🇬🇪🇺🇸It also speaks to the US civil rights movement 😎I’m a retired History teacher😘🤓
USA and Ukraine are liars
Duuuuudes. Do live versions for U2. The Rattle and Hum live performance of this song is the way to go. Worth its own reaction!
Good to see you guys again! Be safe..😊
I will never forget this song was on the television for the first time. I instantly fell in love with it and still are today. THANKS for doing this one!
I've seen them in concert. The intro always gives chills and the place goes wild.
My fav u2 song. Great!
One of their best songs
This song is from the album "the unforgettable fire" - the title track is also very good
This song is always a high point in their shows. Love it!
I saw on the news that there are protests in Tbilisi .You guys stay safe! (From the Georgia in the US)
Yes, I saw that, Charles, there was a big piece about it on the BBC news today (Wednesday), you take care now guys and please keep safe. 👍👍
They're in Delaware. Not sure why I'm responding when you can't see this, as I'm shadow-banned.
If (for our support) the GD makes our Bros. register as foreign "agents," I might just have to drag my nearly geriatric ass over to Tbilisi to join the protests!
Let's hope Zourabichvili keeps good on her promise to veto the legislation.
Just seen on the BBC news this morning (Thursday) that Georgia's ruling party has said it will withdraw a controversial draft law, in the face of mass protests and widespread international criticism. So, that's great news after all the protests, brilliant. 👍👍
@@KandKs_GG Don't worry, Elizabethe, saw on the BBC news this morning that Georgia's ruling party has said it will withdraw a controversial draft law, in the face of mass protests and widespread international criticism. So that is great news after all the protests. 👍👍
Great song, great reaction as usual. 🇬🇪 protesters =fistbump 🤜 love, Lynn in Arizona 🌵
I remember the statement at their concert about Governor Meecham.
my most favourite U2 song. "pride"'s soaring vocal,; chiming, ringing guitar; and emotional lyric are everything i love about this band.
i will always treasure seeing U2 live on their WAR and THE UNFORGETTABLE FIRE tours, their finest period IMO. their youth, exuberance, energy, and passion changed my life ❤
if you want early LIVE U2 you need to see "sunday bloody sunday" live from red rocks - POWERFUL.
thank you for this reaction!
Growing up watching as a young child the march on Selma for freedom for blacks my father taught us this was an injustice and we all cried when they killed Martin Luther King ,I mean we knew they would get him and yet h3 stood tall and strong and then this tribute years later it’s why they are close to my heart
A timely reaction to a great protest anthem! 🇬🇪✊️❤
Tbilisi is on my bucket list🥰🇬🇪Thank yo🥰😘
This band is legendary. This song: the lyrics, the lyrics!!!
It’s about the Reverend Martin Luther King Jr.
This was the very first song I knew by them. And than I foun New Years Day and Sunday Bloody Sunday and since then I love them. Believe me, Bono can go higher then in this song.
1984, fourth studio album. Next One was The Joshua Tree (where the streets have no name, i still havent found, With ir without you and full of Masterpieces).
Hi there, I don't know if you know, but the guys have reacted to all three of these songs. Great songs and great reactions! 👍👍
Yess more u2! My favourite band of all time , and I’m very happy you both can appreciate their music and their sound so much! Love your reactions keep it up!
The live version from Rattle and Hum is superb. In the name of Martin Luther King, SING!
Thank you for reacting to this song been on my playlist for decades!
Jesus was betrayed by a kiss.
You need to see them preform I will Follow from 1980. One of their first if not the first television appearances. Very young but very good!
U2 has so many amazing songs it's crazy. Try Streets With No Name, With Or Without You, and I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For.
Hi Trish, the guys have reacted to all three of these songs! Great songs and great reactions! 😊😊
I'm in Florida, we always have beautiful weather. 😆
You guys should also check out a UK rock Band called Skunk Anansie. The Lead singer Skin has incredible vocals - listen to the song 'Becaue of You' its is unbelievable. Quite a dark song but it is great. There are are 2 great versions the original video where u hear how great thr band are ,& Acoustic Live from London version where Skin's vocals are phenomenal
Great song and great group. They have such a distinctive sound, so unlike anyone else.
I know how much you guys love a good guitar solo. One of the best I've ever heard is from the song "King Nothing" by Metallica. You should give it a listen. Not the live version, but the video, where they're playing in the snow and the guy is throwing his gold crowns away. Great freakin' song!
The funny thing about the "find your sound" comment is that a lot of original U2 fans were pissed when this album came out, because it was complete departure from U2's "sound" from Boy to War. This band has a much bigger catalogue than I think you guys realize. Listen to "Surrender" from the War album or "The Electric Co." from Boy and the sound is totally different. I go back & forth between the pre & post Lanois / Eno eras with these guys. Bono's voice definitely hit its stride between The Unforgettable Fire and Rattle & Hum though.
Thanks guys. Stay safe.
R.I.P MARTIN LUTHER KING!
Definitivamente a canção mais poderosa do U2
Kick-ass.
Watsbup wit ya man he was singin his as off d last 1 piffffff
Lemon
Bros, what is going on in your country right now?
They were not too young here. This was their 4th album. :P U2 don't have a sound... they have many sounds.
💖💖💖💖
👍👍👍👍👍
As amazing as this song and "Sunday, Bloody Sunday" are, my humble opinion has "Bad" being the best song on "The Unforgettable Fire".
Larry Mullen Jr. Enough said
Free at last they took your life but they did not take your pride. If that line doesn't give you chills nothing will
💙💔
April 4th ....
hi guys, could you react to ''Face It Alone'' by Queen? it is the newest released song from them yet
Jesus...You guys made me get and open another drink with this one. Hahaha! U2, Daniel Lanois and Brian Eno....say no more. In the context of album this was the 'pop song'.
One man betrayed with kiss. Who are they talking about? This is their greatest song. In the name of Love. Jesus Christ was betrayed with a kiss so that he could save us
I wonder if Pride nowadays is mistaken for a LGBT song 😅
