The coin toss determines which team gets last rock in the first end and not which team goes first. Last rock or "hammer" can be a major factor in the scoring outcome of the end. Admittedly, the winner of the coin toss might elect to shoot first, but it's unlikely. Also, rocks or 'stones' are delivered alternately and each player delivers two stones in the case of a four-man team (for a three-man team, the lead and second each throw three stones and the skip throws two.)
I recorded a bunch of curling matches on my DVR so I figured I should know the basics before diving into them. Thanks for the quick, simple explanation.
I started working at a local community curling rink.. going out this weekend to give it a go for the first time.. great video, exactly what I was wanting!
In Canada, often instead of a coin toss, the two "skips" each throw one "stone"; the team which is closest to the "pin" or "button" goes last, or is awarded "the hammer".
It requires skills, strategy, team work and fitness. More than we can say about 3/4 of the "sports" at the Olympics. If you've played before, you already know that. If you haven't, try it before you judge it. Way harder than people think at all levels.
@@RollingxBigshot Have you ever played. Try 2 10 ends games in the same day at a competitive level. You'll understand what I'm talking about. And to sweep like they sweep, oh boy!
It is actually more difficult than it seems I have been curling for a long time and their is a lot of strategy involved and Also every sheet of ice is different so how hard you throw the rock changed every game.

I played curing in Wisconsin all throughout highschool and when I went to Alaska I played there a bit. It's a fun sport to play! Not as much fun to watch though.
If they want to make curling interesting enough to keep people watching for the half day that a game lasts, they have to pick it up a bit. I have suggested several rule changes that would keep people on the edge of their seats. One rule change: allow body checking. Second: Goalies. Third: much narrower seats.
I'm always felt that this shouldn't be an Olympic games considering so many countries does not even play it. I believe sports like bowling, squash are more globally known than this game.
I have never played, and hooked up during Olympics, but people saying "looks easy" makes me laugh. It seems to need a lot of precision and foreseeing to play it right
I think I get it. I think I get it. I think I get it. I think I get it. Okay, they lost me in the second half, BUT from the little I’ve seen, it looks amusing and I’ve set my Xfinity (tv) up 😁
Whoever made this is genius. I'm from Minnesota and have a hard time explaining curling to people so I just show them this.
This sport is kinda dumb though
@@riandelltugas1973 you take that back.
Same
@@PH-wc8ll curling is gay
So how many career ending injuries can you get in this sport?

@Motta Wang did your social credit score decrease, or are you having an on the spectrum meltdown?
It’s funny I’m only watching this because i never knew how this sport worked
I think that is what this video is for

Thank you! With Olympics coming, I wanted to tell my students about this sport, instead I’ll just show this video!

I stumbled upon curling on TV, watched it for 20mins trying to get it, then someone scored and I was like... What? And now I'm here. Thank you.
I still dont know how this sport made it to the olympics but i wanna play this in the Olympics once 🤣

Or you can Bocha instead lol
I've always found the sport oddly captivating, but I never had any idea what was going on. I'll enjoy watching it a whole lot more now.
Curling is underrated asf
Yes mum used to make us play this as children everyday, instead of a curl ball,we'd start off with the broom followed by the vacuum cleaner.
Can you add subtitles like the Canadian Curling Association did? It would be nice for teaching deaf curlers how to curl or what curling is.
UA-cam automatically adds caption. Click the three dots ... Or the CC button
i never knew such a think existed. man i learned something new today ig.
Great vid, it helped me explain to my 4yr old what Curling is. Thanks!
wow, great short explanation - thanks
Nice video. It would be great if the measurements of the sheet were displayed also in metric.

Will be watching during Beijing winter Olympics.
The name curling stems from the Gaelic word curr, meaning grumble (sound).
Cool animation.
Just learning this now since life without real sports right now
Somewhere there was a really cold boring winter somewhere and a couped up virgin

It's strangely compelling to watch.
