  • @MrTenhighguy

    Good info I started installing the same kit in my driveway today. A bit of advice for those who will install this kit themselves. Pay the vendor to build the coil over assembly when you order it if they have the option. Unless you have a real strut compressor (not autoparts store quality) it's worth the money paying someone to build them for you. There is a lot of videos showing how to assemble the coil over without a spring compressor, it's a pain in the butt. I ended up running mine up the street to a shop and dropped 60 dollars to have them build them for me, work smart not hard.

    • @coryperemsky
      @coryperemsky 7 років тому +6

      GEORGE for future reference to anyone reading this you can actually disassemble the oem struts and install the new struts (that don't come assembled yourself in about 20 minutes if you have a floor jack). Once you have the truck jacked up on stands and wheel off, use a jack to raise the lower control arm to compress the strut. loosen the top nut while the struts is compressed, once the nut is removed slowly let the arm back down until there is no tension. loosen the lower strut hardware and the strut will slide out from the bottom. You can install the new strut in coil in the same fashion. Just as you jack up the lower control arm, guide the upper bolt of the strut through the hole, then tighten it down once it's through.

      azwethinkweiz tried this but when I used the floor jack to raise the lca, it ended up raising the whole truck up off the jack stand. Not sure what I’m doing wrong exactly.

    CAUTION 2ND GEN TACOMA OWNERS: As best I can tell, for a 4WD 2nd Gen Tacoma (2005-2015), the LCA cam bolts should be torqued to only 100ft-lb. The 135ft-lb spec in this video @ 6:14 seems to be correct for a 3rd Gen Tacoma (2016-present), but way too high for a 4WD 2nd Gen.
    The Chilton manual shows that 100ft-lb should be used for a 4WD 2nd Gen Tacoma (and 155ft-lb for a 2WD). Here are a couple of other references, though you might want to find others, too, to confirm.

    great vid boys I have this system on my 2015 TRD OFF ROAD TACOMA And I love it! And my 285 75 16s look and feel great and just like the tech says it only rubs when hard turned backing up but very little just because the torque is pulling down on the front end in reverse! and the ride is stiff and feels like a truck should feel but I don't hesitate driveing it 200 miles down the road on trips thumbs up to this product!

      As shown in our video description, the tires we used on this Tacoma were 285/70R17 BFGoodrich KO2. They rub slightly when backing up and turning sharp. So I would not go much, if any, larger without further modifications. Thanks for watching and commenting.

    • @lowrangeoffroad1
      @lowrangeoffroad1  7 років тому +1

      Good question. All new springs settle over time with weight applied. The measurements we gave at the end of the Part 2 video (and in the description) were taken just after kit installation. So the 3" increase in the front and the 2.5" increase in the rear will probably settle about a .5" all around ending up at about 2.5" in the front and 2" in the rear, which is basically a 2" lift. Hope this answers your question. Thanks for watching and commenting.

      Not when you go this route,it will tear the rubber alignment bushings if you push the lca down too far without loosing the bolts,if you remove the sway bar instead you can get the coilover out without touching the lca

      I checked with Bryce, the Technician that did the install. He reports,
      "Hard turning in reverse there is a slight rub but nothing noticable."
      As to the alignment numbers. We let the owner take care of having the alignment done. We assume they put it back to factory spec. Sorry we could not be more specific. Thanks for watching and commenting.

    • @lowrangeoffroad1
      @lowrangeoffroad1  7 років тому +2

      Well, yes. I realize the rear wheels are not adjustable on this Tacoma. However, I don't know anyone in the alignment business that measures and adjust the front wheels only. Additionally, it is always a good idea to know if there are any bent parts in the rear and the best way to know that is to measure the alignment (Thrust Angle, Set Back, Toe, Camber, etc.) on rear wheels along with the front. Thanks for watching can commenting.

      I have to disagree. My last Tacoma was driven for 10 years without a single hiccup. I would NEVER go back to a 2 wheel drive pickup truck. But when you lift a IFS 4X4 you must retain correct CV geometry.

      on my 2nd lifted Taco, both 4x4 2nd gens.... never had an issue with CVs.... only the boots on my 1st taco, which wore out after 120k miles, due to the bellows rubbing...good trick is to cut off the smaller clamp on cv boot and extend CV boot out creating larger gaps in the bellows so they don't rub and clamp in place with new clamps.... so far i have a combined mileage with lifts at 230,000 miles....

      New UCAs are not a necessity with this suspension upgrade. However, it would be a good idea if you can. And here is why. We did notice that the upper control arm did rest against the coil spring at full droop. But, this is only a problem if you do serious off-roading. Thanks for watching and commenting.

    2:30 REAL mechanics don't wear gloves.

    • @CptSmokeAlot
      @CptSmokeAlot 6 років тому +1

      Most mechanics don't have a camera in their face and are usually pressed for time and often times gloves aren't handy.
      When they are, I use 8 mil gloves because clean hands are a glove change away and that is worth it especially any time you tear into an engine or a transmission, or brakes, or oil changes, if you're working on a high end car or someones pretty mall crawler.
