Unlike Steinbrenner and Martin you couldn’t have gotten Ryan and Ditka to be that civil to each other for any length of time. Whereas Billy and George were two guys that genuinely liked each other but clashed when their egos got the best of them, Buddy and Mike genuinely hated each other’s guts.
@@joerules829This. It wasn’t until Buddy was literally on his death bed when Ditka spoke to him again, just days before his passing. Even then, I believe Mike was mostly giving well-wishes to Buddy’s kids.
Javy C I was just watching ‘The Bronx is Burning’ the miniseries about the ‘77 Yanks, and they have a scene where they’re making this commercial. So I think you’re right 👍🏼
@ Jay C Your chronology makes more sense, since Billy Martin had been fired by the Yankees and replaced by Bob Lemon in July 1978 after his infamous comment to reporters "One's a born liar; the other's convicted." (The liar being Reggie Jackson, and the convicted being Steinbrenner for his illegal campaign contributions to Nixon.) Of course, the commercial might still have continued to air on TV in August of '78 after Martin's first of many firings from the Yankees. Would the advertiser have pulled it?
@@publiushamilton4030 Yes, it did replay and I remember their being several of these Miller Lite spots, back then. I believe Mickey Mantle appeared in one, obviously before he quit drinking. Mantle and Martin were drinking buddies during their playing years. Places like Toots Shors, must've been quite the hang, back in the day. Anyway, it was great seeing this ad again. But, I'm still not a fan of Miller Lite, despite me being a die-hard Yankee's fan and my enjoyment in seeingy these ads, again. I'll have a Guinness, ty very much. 😎👍
R.I.P.: George Steinbrenner and Billy Martin.
Coming from a Red Sox Fan
Love these commercials
RIP George & Billy
Later on, George would say, "You're hired," and Billy would still say, "Oh no, not again."
Two baseball legends! Miss those days!
omg that was and is soooo classic. R.I.P. to both indeed.
I remember this commercial. Good times as a kid watching baseball. Gone forever.
Legends, Martin and Steinbrenner.
many people still hated both of them.
And they are having awesome discussions like this again up in the heavens.
George Steinbrenner?
First time I've seen George costanzas boss' face
Me too. But it seems his face doesn't match his voice.
Larry David said George couldn't act. That's why you never saw George on Seinfeld doing a cameo.
My favorite 🖖
From an era when taking a phone call at your table required an actual phone.
Life is good
CLASSIC.
I always stop and watch the real ad when the scene comes up in The Bronx Is Burning
All these 2 guys wanted was to Win
funniest ever
George is the best
Would’ve been great if miller lite also did ads with Brent musberger & jimmy the Greek and also with mike ditka & buddy ryan

Always a great idea to have a raging alcoholic selling your beer.
i think the air date is actually 1977, not 1978. just throwing that out there

@@literallyunderrated where and how were you watching? seems finding the series anywhere is very, very difficult. please share if you can
Javy C I bought the dvd on ebay, less than 10 bucks. Its an ESPN series so it might also be on their on demand channel

Classic.
Why did the commercial have the waiter taking the old beer away?
Because they were empty… they poured the bottles in the glasses
Bubba Smith
They need to a 2019 version of this with Trump and John Bolton
I bet that was funny for a few days ba k in 2019
