      Rising prices have affected my intention of retiring at 62, working part-time, and building my savings. I'm worried about whether individuals who weathered the 2008 financial crisis found it less challenging than my current situation. The stock market's volatility, coupled with a reduced income, is making me anxious about having enough for retirement.

      You are completely right, Advisors have information and paths that are not disclosed to the public.. I profited £560k in 2022 under the tutelage of my Fiduciary-counselor. Am I selling? Absolutely not.. I am going to sit back and observe how this all plays out.

      I've been thinking about going that route. I have a lot of stocks that I have maintained, but they are beginning to lose value, so I'm not sure if I should hold onto them or sell them. I feel hiring your investment coach would make it easier to restructure my portfolio.

    Please upload a video (or add text to current one(s)) pointing out the apparently significant devaluation of IHG points. For example, the video you uploaded 8 months or so ago showing Holiday Inn Express & Suites Bangkok Central Pier for 6,000/night (including 4th night free), now costs 12,250/night. That is quite the devaluation over a short period of time. Important info, imho.

    We did it for >5 years now, predominant with Marriott brand, we did it over the pandemic also. Suggestions to focus on health care insurance, Medicare doesn't cover outside of USA, secondary health insurance is a must. We pay cash for anything when CC can't be use, but it is very rare, cash is king is any situations. We earned cash back from our Costco card, 2-4%. Laundry, you can actually ask for numbers of pieces laundry included at the hotel via the managers, we ask for laundry, in room breakfast delivery, sometimes lunch and dinner packages included. Don't ask don't get! That's my long term additional tips. Have fun retired and traveling.

    Hello from Dubai, UAE👋 What I like about staying at hotels for more than a couple of days is that you develop a routine, and the hotel becomes an oasis of familiarity in a strange city.

    I learned about the Singles Day Sale for IHG from one of your videos and have been (impatiently) waiting for early Nov to roll around in hopes of getting a great deal on IHG in Kuala Lumpur. However, it's Nov. 8 and I haven't seen a thing yet. Is there a secret access point? Do they wait until 11.11 to announce it? (I once heard you mention they often start before the 11th). Also, thanks so much for sharing your experience at Gleneagle Hospital. We have an appt on Jan. 10th- hoping they can solve an issue that US doctors don't seem to know what to do with (fingers crossed!).

    I retired at age 53, so I am in my early 60s. Many of them resisted me because they couldn't understand the idea of not working if it wasn't necessary. I considered the phases of my life. I worked very hard to achieve what I have now, but in my last years, I owe it to myself to "stop and smell the roses." In my instance, I departed the nation after retiring and currently reside in Latin America. It made it possible for me to appreciate my new surroundings while escaping all the bad things that were going on in America. Nobody that I know of regrets retiring has yet to come to me

      Nice way to retire. For me, I believe retirees who struggle to meet their basic needs are the ones who could not accumulate enough money during their active years to meet their needs. Retirement choices determine a lot of things. My wife and I both spent same number of years in the civil service, she invested through a wealth manager and myself through the 401k. We both still earning after our retirement fund has grown way more than it would have with just the 401(k). Haha

    Great Video! Love your suggestions they are always so helpful. We are doing Amtrak California Zephyr in two roomettes across from each other because of you! Can't wait. We are both semi retired but could never do this due to the highly processed foods offered at all of these chains. There is normally not one item I can consume at a breakfast since it is made with industrialized, processed oils such as canola or vegetable oil, breaded cheap carb based foods, lots of processed sugars and other highly inflammatory and destructive foods. We would need a kitchen and the ability to cook our own single ingredient foods and not rely on fast food quality processed offerings from hotels. They use the most inexpensive processed crap in their free breakfast and lounges. All of the pastries, breads, sugars, syrups, pastas and unhealthy grains are almost all of the offerings. IF you had to buy your own healthy, single ingredient foods and get a hotel with a kitchen would this be feasible? I assume not.

      I see people traveling with dogs in Thailand more and more. I imagine that causes stress for the dog, both the travel and adapting to an alien environment. You will have to seek out pet-friendly hotels, because that's not as common in Asia. Some countries -- Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam -- have lots of feral dogs, even in some parts of the big cities. The dogs generally don't bother people but a pet dog on a leash would attract their attention.

    • @nataliajimenez1870

      No country cares about vitamins or charcoal, all of that stuff sold everywhere. Unless you have quantities that look like you plan to sell them. Just keep them in the original packages. You should have prescriptions for medicine. Be aware of different rules for some kinds of drugs. For example Thailand does not allow amphetamines (including Adderall and Ritalin) or strong barbiturates like Ambien. If you require those do the research and have your prescriptions with you.

    We’ve been planning our first trip to Thailand & Vietnam & started looking for the hotels. We have lots of points now w/IHG & Hyatt. I’ve noticed a lot of these hotels are kinda far (or seem to be) from the city “attractions”. I know if we were there for a month, it wouldn’t matter as much, but a week or two here and there, grabs would really add up (don’t they?).
    Specifically I saw hotels farther away in Da Nang, Hanoi & in Thailand at Ao Nang.
    We had a lot of credit from our Italy trip we had to cancel w/Airbnb’s, so we chose those instead… saving points for next time. Wondering if y’all just choose to stay farther out or am I missing something?

    • @GroundedLifeRetirementTravel
      @GroundedLifeRetirementTravel  27 днів тому +3

      We stay in the hotels in Da Nang and Hanoi, they really aren't very far. I don't think we would want to stay steps from the main tourist areas anyway. The cost of grab is quite low. In Bangkok if you are near the BTS train you can get anywhere.

    • @gregjor
      @gregjor 26 днів тому

      Ao Nang in Krabi very touristy and in my opinion a bit dumpy. Sewers run directly into the bay at Ao Nang beach, I wouldn't swim there. You might consider staying a little outside of the central area with access to cleaner beaches. Same for Patong in Phuket. Plenty of nice beaches in Thailand just a little off the beaten path. If you do stay in Ao Nang be wary of the monkeys -- they will grab anything they can.

      @@PamandLarry I like Koh Tao. Full of tourists, a bit hard to get to, but clean water and excellent snorkeling, and diving if you do that. Phuket away from Patong and Phuket Town, many nice areas there. Koh Samui away from the two main tourist areas, though the resorts get pricey. Pattaya and Jomtien have pretty beaches but you might not like the partying and drinking and activities Pattaya has a reputation for. Koh Chang very nice but expensive. Koh Lanta pretty, not too touristy, but my main memory of staying there is the mosquitos. Koh Samet and Koh Lan get more Thai visitors than the tourist-oriented places, both very nice not expensive. BTW "Koh" means island in Thai.

    • @gregjor
      @gregjor 26 днів тому

      @@PamandLarry Beaches I would not visit again: Patong area in Phuket, Pattaya, Koh Phi Phi once you get past 25 years old, the southern part of Koh Pha Ngan (drug-fueled parties). Ao Nang as I mentioned, though other areas in Krabi nice. The very southern provinces of Thailand, near the border with Malaysia, have flare-ups of separatist violence, not recommended for tourists, but Koh Lipe off the coast fairly far south very nice, though I hear it got overrun because it got featured in a James Bond movie. The same thing happened to Maya Bay in Phi Phi after the movie "The Beach" came out, eventually the Thai government had to close it.

      @@earlmyers2874 Less wealthy than living in an American city or beach town. Depends on where you go of course. Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia -- all of SE Asia except for Singapore much cheaper in every respect than the USA. Even Japan and Taiwan, which I would describe as more developed than almost any place in the USA, you can live cheaper than you can in the US with a little planning. You can easily find a nice hotel room in Bangkok near the skytrain/subway for $40/night or less, and in Vietnam you can pay half that for a nice room. @@gregjor If you rent lower end hotel rooms or even full condos by the month its even cheaper than the hotels. There are folks at the $1200 price point per month. There are a LOT of people who ended up with enough money to retire early as long as it was someplace cheaper than the US -- and Covid happened. The way visas work you have to move around every 3 months or so - even if you go right back after a week.
      If you want colder climates you can do Eastern Europe or even Western Europe with a little planning. Only the big cities in Europe are expensive. Lots of expats in Portugal too - they have a longer term visa program.

      @@redwolfexr Renting an apt/condo for less than six months not possible everywhere, depends on where you go. Landlords may want large deposits. That’s the AirBnb niche, with its own problems. But yes in general you can find rentals cheaper than hotels outside the big cities. Visa runs - maxing out a tourist visa then bouncing out and back in to get another one - not possible in Europe, Thailand, Japan. You can do that once or twice in some countries, depends on their rules and enforcement. Thailand now strict about no visa runs. Staying in a country long-term usually requires a long-stay visa, different lifestyle than described on this channel. I live in Thailand most of the time and we go nomading periodically, living in hotels.

    Nice. I wish we could do this, but we have kids. So this is for people with no kids.

      What was it he started with? A bathrobe and a towel?

    Squandering the equity you built over 20 or 30 years renting hotels in South East Asia is unwise ❤.

      @@luxurytravelspotlight Yeah. Those stays turn into money for them because they get content for their videos. They just have to be careful to reduce risk in their investment portfolio (given their age, they can afford riskier investments in ~10% of their savings)
