The tragedy of the Ideon story is there from the start. The war between humans and Buff Clan starts over a stupid misunderstanding. A nothing. A mistake. And both sides proceed to fight to the end where everyone dies. It is depressingly close to misunderstandings that have almost caused WWIII a few different times.
@@shauqiharris2772 the problem is it’s easy to realize the misunderstanding as bystanders watching in an all knowing angle as audience but in reality it’s easier said then done. Bright and Amuro will get into the Ideon, and the GM-looking head will be replaced by Lagann in order to create a weapon capable of properly slapping the Getter Emperor.
Ideon is one of the craziest god mechs ever made. Unlike Getter Emperor, Ide actively desires peace and prosperity but has no qualms about ending all life to do it. What's of particular interest here is how the Ide is infinite but requires souls I assume to fuel itself or activate it. It seems as though the Sixth Civilization allowed itself to be assimilated into the Ide since the Ide clearly gave Messiah and his people a second chance at life and the Ide was an ascension to a higher existence for them. Ide is certainly a strange entity. What you forgot to mention is that the Ideon Sword is potentially infinite in length and that the Ideon Gun's destruction can theoretically expand without end. Ideon, once invoked, is truly a beast that few can match.
I did not forget. I simply chose not to. I already mentioned earlier in the video that the Ide is infinite in nature. No point repeating the same point another two times with the Ideon Sword and Ideon Gun if you get what I mean.
That's fair I guess. I mostly pin that on Ideon and how ambiguous it is. The 6th Civilization aren't given much information and backstory despite having created or discovered the Ide. I'm going to guess that's what Tomino wanted, for the viewer to make his or her own conclusions about the IDE and the 6th Civilization and what comes after the war's devastation.
IIRC at one point its mentioned that the Ide is an amalgamation of the thousands of souls from the 6th civilization - that's basically averaging human consciousness to to more common and primal instincts, like self-defense and the protection of its young, which explains a lot of the scenes where the Ideon acts with some measure of independence - when all those souls agree, it acts. Also, with Evangelion being partially inspired by Ideon, its Human Instrumentality Project could be interpreted as a way to create that unified consciousness from an entire civilization - just imagine Ideon runs on LCL and it makes some sense.
Loona It goes back farther than Ideon or Evangelion actually. The Ide has a lot in common with Arthur C. Clarke's Overmind from "Childhood's End" but instead of being an alien intelligence that assimilates psychic lifeforms, it is an amalgamated intelligence that act on primal instincts although it ultimately wants peace between the Solo Colonists and the Buff Clan. Of course when that didn't work, the Ide was invoked and either blew everything up on the spot (the TV series ending) or goes on a rampage (Be Invoked ending) to punish Doba and the Buff Clan for their arrogance. Of note, "Childhood's End" was also a huge influence to Xenogears which is kind of obvious with the character of Krelian.
Swordking X4 It appeared in ZZ. Funny thing is Mineva was the pilot of Ideon while Char, Amuro and Judau fought it. It also introduced cool mobile suits like Mega Zeta, Big Zam Kai, Suzaku, Kitara, GM Sniper EX and SD Gundams.
See I don't think it's neccesarily the mecha itself. I think the Ide is like....what we percieve to be the ultimate end stage of evolution. Where an organism becomes sentient, pure energy used to power a machine people then use for war.

Another example being when Karala herself tried to convince her sister and fellow Buff to make peace, but was branded a traitor instead(and shamed as her clothes was torn away in front of everyone) despite asking for a very simple thing. There was also the time a couple Buff pilots crashlanded in a field, and as they made their escape from the ship, a child shot at them before a girl(whom Cosmo was getting very friendly with) could prevent an escalated encounter; One pilot died because of the shot from the child, while the girl lost her life when shot by the remaining pilot. 7:53 self-preservation, eh? It’s no wonder why Ideon was the bad guy in Gundam VS Ideon: Counterattack of Gigantis. Even the (forced) enlightenment through death and rebirth does little, if anything, to excuse the fact that the Ide deliberately let the war escalate to its most dangerous height to “feed” itself like a parasite sucking the life out of its host, while the children it is “supposedly” meant to protect all ultimately perished. Ideon forces us all to reevaluate the moral standing of the highest powers imaginable.
Despite the buff clan being the main antagonist of the series we never learn who they extactly were and why there are 2 planet earths, sure we know they're humans just like us and their highly advanced but that's all the series told us.
And it was never explained as to why the Buff Clan wanted the Ide energy, or what they will do with it. Or even what the rivalry between the Buff Emperor and the House of Ajiba was all about. Aside from being militaristic, yes, there is much to be desired. Could use a remake though.
CosmoShidan I think the show was supposed to be much longer than 43 episodes. Either that or the original last 4 episodes were supposed to cover what you said.
2liter overlord Sorry for being late! Yeah, one of the reasons it was planned to be 43 episodes was due to Tomino's experience with Gundam. By having to cut 9 of the planned 52 episodes and rewrite the remaining six episodes, Tomino expected the sponsors to cut it off at episode 43. Ironically, he was forced to cut it four episodes short. Overall, I agree with your statement that Ideon was supposed to be much longer, but it much was left out due to fears of early cancellation. Interestingly, I was told that Tomino wrote a novel adaptation of Ideon as he did with Gundam. With that, it might be able to explain the Buff Clan's motives for acquiring the Ide energy, their origins, the rivalry between the Emperor and House Ajiba, and even the 6th civilization and the other past civilizations. Hence, the Ideon novel adaptation, while I do not expect it to ever make it to North American shores due to its age, might be an extension of the anime as the Gundam novel adaptation.
CosmoShidan I’ve never heard of the novel adaptation either. I know the ending we got in be invoked was also completely different from the original planned ending. I’m not going to complain though because be invoked turned out to be great.
2liter overlord I think that the ending to Be Invoked is without equal. Though I would like to see the series remade, if only for some aspects to be elaborated and expanded upon, nothing beats the ending to Be Invoked.
I can hear Hop Pop uttering "I don't feel safe!" after hearing the information about Ideon, an Avengers-level threat Mech that is threatening as fudge.
Gurren lagann seems right up its alley. That is one powerful damn mech I never heard of. PS 19 people didn't like their bodies ripped apart and forcibly reborn.
I want to see videos about as many super mechas as possible... from mazinger Z to mazinkaiser skl, from beast king golion to Dairugger xv, Godanner to giant robo
Nice effort - I feel it was somewhat focused on the mech itself, while I find one of the interesting points in the wider story is the relationship between the Solo colonists and the Buff Clan, who are basically the same species that have more in common than actual reasons to fight, and how the relationships between Karala, Sheryl and Harulu basically drive the story, practically making them the real protagonists, even if Cosmo's the most recurring pilot of the titular mech. Maybe I should put my own views and theories in a video, there should probably be more Ideon content out there...

@@emanuelepolloni4002 Which is, non-canon by a mile. Char and Amuro are powerful newtypes and pilots but it contrasts a lot of logistics established within Universal Century. As cool as it would have been, bridging can only go as far.
On yesterday, I just watched the MAHQ's live stream hosted by Soul Bro Ryu. I did interview members of Shinjuku Station (MAHQ) including Soul Bro Ryu because they are my friends. We were discussing about mecha anime and playing video games.
Ideon is the very sad mecha series made by Tomino-san himself. Yuuki Cosmo who found gigantic space vehicle later on formed combine into Ideon the Giant God, System IDE is unknown system possess unlimited beyond to it Power of Infinite. Ideon Gun and Ideon Sword were most powerful weapons in mecha anime history surpass Guren Lagann, Getter Emperor, Mazinger Zero, even Transformers like Cybertron god Primus. The Buff Clan were the antagonist wanted to gain both Solo Ship and Ideon in total domination. However there are issues of using Millitary power in process. Hard to say Humans and Buff were going in peace share the belief. IDE on the other hand, only pure hearts of young children which protect by Ideon. Gand Rowa is gigantic space fortress sized of 500 and 350 kilo meters high a destructive weapon, originally Tau Cusy Coori of Super Nova. Massive Anti-matter space cannon could destroy planets.
I never had a problem with Ideon ending. It found it fitting for what it was. But Zambot's 3 and Dunbine's in the other way did not... It did not pay off of the things that were happening.
I loved this. I actually did not get what happened at the end of Ideon and it needed explaining. Thanks! btw hard to believe Ideon was beaten by a thing as ugly as the Gando Rowa. Now I know weapons aren't supposed to be pretty, but that thing looks like a pointy roach with spines all over its body!
Don05 If you think about it, it lets itself be beaten. If the Ide already deemed the universal civilization unfit for peace in the universe and by that point detroyed all the planets with intelligent life through energy meteors, then the final solution was kamikaze since the buff clan leader took the im going down with everyone approach. Ide being infinite and capable of incredible feats would have been able to resist and phase ganda rowa's attack unscathed but again Ide already made judgement and the universe was doomed.
It's impressive how Japan can have one half of their own George R.R. Martin, before Game of Thrones even came out. Tomino is exactly that, one half of the George R.R. Martin of Japan.
Considering that IDE remade the universe several times in the past, it will probably do it again in the new Universe the Messiah created, and it will use Ideon to do so.
Super Robot Wars F Final and Super Robot Wars Alpha 3. Hopefully if the English versions of Moon Dwellers and SRW V do well, maybe Ideon could be present in a translated title in the future...
Unfortunately the ide will probably awaken again because there will always be war there will always be anger, hate, greed, selfishness and dear freaking lord there will be boredom.
The ending and all supplementary material as well as interviews pointed to everything in the universe dying from the resulting explosion from Ideon. Even if that ship escaped briefly, it wouldn't have survived in the long run.
@@180223 also in might not be much but I think ideon is a precursor series to the Mobile Suit Gundam series there's one non-canon story but it explains a whole lot gundam.fandom.com/wiki/Gigantis Scroll towards the bottom and explains the history of space Runaway ideon and how the new type thing is created and it also shows a story of how ideon is reborn in the Gundam universe
Ideon by itself and the scale of its story make it one of the heavy hitters of mecha settings, so it's fitting that when major SRW arcs (classic and Alpha) end the Ideon is there - it's practically part of its original story that the Ide does not start shit, it ends it. Shame it was absent for the SRW Z conclusion though...

Well this is new to me. Great video you made. You just taught me new stuff, especially about one of the most powerful mechas.
I totally need to get the novels to learn more on the 6th Generation.
finished the series yesterday. the ending of be invoked blew my mind away.
do you have the link so i can see it?
7:53 self-preservation, eh? It’s no wonder why Ideon was the bad guy in Gundam VS Ideon: Counterattack of Gigantis.
Even the (forced) enlightenment through death and rebirth does little, if anything, to excuse the fact that the Ide deliberately let the war escalate to its most dangerous height to “feed” itself like a parasite sucking the life out of its host, while the children it is “supposedly” meant to protect all ultimately perished. Ideon forces us all to reevaluate the moral standing of the highest powers imaginable.
Make sense why he's a main antagonist
And this series helped inspire Neon Genesis Evangelion.
No Angel would survive in front of this
i think Angels might actually worship Ideon if they were to come in contact with him.
Tomino, you crazy son of a gun. Stan Lee killed half of the universe. You, you kill em all!
And so. Which one author can kill the most 🤨?
Tomino literally made a series way more sad and tragic compared to Zambot 3 because everyone died in Ideon
I can hear Hop Pop uttering "I don't feel safe!" after hearing the information about Ideon, an Avengers-level threat Mech that is threatening as fudge.
Gotta love when all things die and world gets calm and peaceful in Tomino's endings
Ideon is basically a Super Robot Thanos/Darkseid.
Gurren lagann seems right up its alley. That is one powerful damn mech I never heard of. PS 19 people didn't like their bodies ripped apart and forcibly reborn.
Now this series is more clear to me. hey cool team-up! Looking forward to more.
So the Ideon was actually a Doomsday weapon. If destroyed, it wipes out everything.
Chilling....That was a great video guys. Well done.
Thanks, this givme som ideas that how Evangelion 3.0+1.0 could end, i watched Nadia and SpaceShip Yamato Animes based for Hideaki Anno to create Evangelion an now im gonna watch Ideon
IDEON = RESET the Universe
Pucci's Made in Heaven = Accelerate the time & then RESET the entire JoJo universe
This made me watch the Ideon cimpilation films
There is an official manga were it's revealed that the Universal Century of Mobile Suit Gundam is the aftermath of this series. The most important Gundam continuity is the result of the Ideon annillhating everything and restarting the universe. And the worst thing is that the Ideon reincarnated in the new universe and only thanks to Char and Amuro's skills and a great dose of luck they were able to destroy it without causing another apocalypse
That manga is definitely not "official" (canon), it's just another non-canonical spin off
@@frankjaeger2565 Still it had Amuro and Char basically destroying the fucking Ideon without causing the apocalypse.
@@emanuelepolloni4002 Which is, non-canon by a mile. Char and Amuro are powerful newtypes and pilots but it contrasts a lot of logistics established within Universal Century.
As cool as it would have been, bridging can only go as far.
@@danielgeronimo5538 Maybe, but it's a nice crossover and the closest answer to the question "Can a Gundam defeat an Evangelion?"
What it called
FOR SALE:
One Destroyed Universe
A Fixer-Upper---cheap!
you would because they had a Mecha talk about Granzon from Super robot taisen
Now this is a God Mech
Space Runaway Ideon's original title was "LoLTomino."
I never had a problem with Ideon ending. It found it fitting for what it was.
But Zambot's 3 and Dunbine's in the other way did not... It did not pay off of the things that were happening.
that theme song give me chill when I play srw 3 alpha
I got depressed just by listening this episode. (Proceed to write Ideon in the "to watch" list)
The Ideon can be a terrifying anime mech.
It's impressive how Japan can have one half of their own George R.R. Martin, before Game of Thrones even came out. Tomino is exactly that, one half of the George R.R. Martin of Japan.
Who's the *other* half? 🤨
Thank you for the awesome content! Can't wait for you English Moon Dweller content!
Thanks for explaining, now i get it. Whenever you heard Patriotic Theme, that is when IDE came to destroy you with Unlimited Power strenght.. 🤣
LOL I'm in the intro
この最高で訳のわからななくなる映画をよく、外国語で解説してくれた。ありがとうm(_ _)m
isnt this the anime where in the end everyone died and become 'one'. I kinda remember there is an anime like that and it is kinda creepy
mzxa9988 Your thinking of Evangelion
@@duncanaustin7102 it's like Eva but not overrated.
In eva all souls become one to reach perfect companionship and understanding in ideon everyone goes into an afterlife to live as part of the ide
Not gonna lie, as awesome as this series is, I died alil when I found out how it ended.
It’s a shame that I’ll never be able to watch this, unfortunately it’s unavailable on Amazon & the Blu rays are out of print .
Considering that IDE remade the universe several times in the past, it will probably do it again in the new Universe the Messiah created, and it will use Ideon to do so.
Great and educational video, as usual. I would pay to see Ideon and other omnipotent mechas in a fight.
Super Robot Wars F Final and Super Robot Wars Alpha 3. Hopefully if the English versions of Moon Dwellers and SRW V do well, maybe Ideon could be present in a translated title in the future...
*after watching* damn, Ideon is powerful indeed. Plus its nickname GM God doesn't help.
Funny because there's actually a picture where Ideon is basically God of all GM
And who knew that the reborn universe was the universe of the universal century...
Unfortunately the ide will probably awaken again because there will always be war there will always be anger, hate, greed, selfishness and dear freaking lord there will be boredom.
Oh and stupidity…that too
Like seriously WWlll almost happened on multiple occasions because someone wasn’t paying attention to what was being said at the time.
Base on what you guys said. I just want Idein reawakening in Destiny timeline. It was terrible :(
I imagine it like this. Ideon come and wipe out all life in Cosmic Era timeline. Kira Yamato then lead everyone to new planet to be reborn
thank you for this great videos and have a great time playing srw moon dwellers
Fantastic video
This was suppose to be the 3rd Voltron show in america...i see why it was never released even though the toys saw a limited release
It's anime about turning IdeON to IdeOFF and spolier alert they failed at it.
Escaflowne explained
That new universe is the Gundam universe and the ZZ fights Ideon in a manga.
Zambot 3 is underrated. If you can watch it, do it.
honestly how ideon is i have the headcannon the turn x and turn a if counting g gen the phonix gundam is base on
You like giant, so what your opinion on tiny robot like medabots or custom robo
They're cool. Customizing them to improve their stats is quite appealing.
Wait I saw a ship going into faster-than-light travel was that the solo ship 2:55
No. Its one of the Buff Clan ships.
@@180223 okay but doesn't bear any significance they say everyone died but that ship survived
The ending and all supplementary material as well as interviews pointed to everything in the universe dying from the resulting explosion from Ideon. Even if that ship escaped briefly, it wouldn't have survived in the long run.
@@180223 also in might not be much but I think ideon is a precursor series to the Mobile Suit Gundam series there's one non-canon story but it explains a whole lot
gundam.fandom.com/wiki/Gigantis
Scroll towards the bottom and explains the history of space Runaway ideon and how the new type thing is created and it also shows a story of how ideon is reborn in the Gundam universe
I have know about that non-canon story for over a decade already.
Zeta...your narration is killing me..
Soo, Ideon as potential spiral Nemesis?
Good (Ide)a, though...😏
Is Ideon a potential "Spiral Nemesis" right 🤔?
Is your comment above really true ?
SUPER ROBOT TAISEN BRING ME HERE
Do a Gunbuster!
Hearing details about this just makes me (only read the summary of it) question why Ideon was included in Apha 3.
These Videos are amazing, can I request Demonbane?
Its on the list. But don't expect it anytime soon. That will require a lot of research.
i hope you do Gurren Lagann too he deserved a Mecha Talk by you
How does It match against Neo Granzon and Dis Astranagant?
Could you do one of Linebarrle or Gundam 00? That would be so awsome!!
you should do about turn a gundam
EVA was clearly inspired by Ideon.
It's very similar to the Halo super weapons!
*few seconds in* OH HI FELLOW SINGAPOREAN
man no one was spared😩
I am a big fan of MW 2 and you have no idea how much I am crying right now when I saw that at 3:07 XD. Who made that?
postalthehedgehog.deviantart.com/art/No-survivors-Tomino-Edition-599139148
Lol, nice vid as always.
*****
Nice ;)
Does IDE means Inter Dimensional Energy?
No. The series never revealed what IDE stands for.
Kinda reminds me of a GM..........well it was created by tomino and sunrise after all
God of all GM
It's just a super it's basically just a push button for ending all life in a galaxy
So the Ide is basically Spiral Energy, too much of it can be dangerous to the universe. Except the fact it's basically god.
Actually, it is rather different. Spiral Nemesis is more of a natural extension of overusing Spiral Power (think pollution), while it doesn't really matter how much Ide there is, so long as it considers the people to be dicks, it'll kill 'em all (Tomino)
ES21007 Yeah that too I was thinking Spiral Energy because the main characters use the ide energy.
