I agree with another comment here. The reason Swedes love this is that it pictures the ideal state of being: in nature, near water, neighbors out of sight, but yet not totally isolated. There is a party going on somewhere, but you prefer sitting on a rock minding you own business, getting a bit drunk all alone

Apropå allsång så var det en stående regel för varje klass i skolan att sjunga inför lärare andra elever och familjer innan loven tog vid. Såklart sker det ju fortfarande med avvikelse för pandemin gissar jag nu men shit jag lärde mig refrängen på piano och det var det ända jag tog med mig från grundskolan.
Now, we're talking! De flesta låtar i din lista är "klassiker" dvs, ingen äldre än 20 känner till dem. Den här är verkligen en av de stora klassikerna. Taube-klass.

Many people usually think that "Öppna landskap" should become Sweden's national anthem.
But as a born, raised and living in Norrland, I do not agree, because who the hell wants to live in open landscapes (give me forests, lakes and mountains)

Ulf produces himself, and unfortunately much of his music is the same thing over and over again. The lyrics on the other hand, is always making you think. He is qute a poet. It is worth the listening by that fact alone.
I've always always hated this song. We were constantly forced to sing it in school and it's so sl-o-o-o-o-w. But fun to watch your reaction.
Glimmande nymf - Fred Åkerström, is the song that you need to find the soul of Swedish singing. Without this everything else is empty.
And ”Så skimrande var aldrig havet” with Evert Taube. There are so many Evert Taube songs closely connected with the Swedish soul. Most Swedes recognize these songs, younger people maybe from commercials and music class in school, a bit older people from summer night troubadours and singing at parties. You have probably heard them somewhere: ”Änglamark”, ”Rosa på bal”, ”Fritjof och Carmencita”, ”Sjösala vals”.

Och håll i så fall i minne att den inte romantiserar Sverige utan snarare kritiserar Sverige. Kent kom tillbaka från långa turnéer o kände inte igen det Sverige de kom tillbaka till. Socialdemokratiska värden övergavs till förmån för mer nymoderata (o fler främlingsfientliga)
Det blev nog kritik mot "Öppna landskap" eftersom bränna hemma framställs som något positivt. Dock - det är förbjudet i lag! Ja, svenskarnas dubbla budskap vad gäller alkohol.
Har verkligen aldrig fattat storheten med den här låten, men sedan är jag också ganska kall inför Lundell.

Ulf = wolf in old Swedish. A cool name indeed! And johannesört is a small yellow rather insignificant wild flower which surprisingly colors your snaps dramatically bright red - visually very life embracing! (Pick a bloom and smash it between your fingers and you'll get a red stain on your fingertips. That's how you know you have the right flower for your snaps.) Thank you for your reaction video. You're very kind and positive. This song is very much Swedish summer holidays to me. The best time of the year, and johannesört grows along the path down to where I go swimming, so yes lovely memories pile up with this song! Thanks again!
Johannesört is called St. John’s Wort in English, and is widely used as natural alternative to antidepressants like Prozac and Zoloft.

Thanks for a great reaction! Ulf is one of the old Viking names. Ulf=ulv=wolf. When I was growing up we were singing this song all the time, in school, in shows, if I remeber correctly I think we even sang this in our Lucia performance in Fritids in the 80s….🤣
When you listenn to this you kind of have to imagine the summer and nature and the old times that most of us long for so much. Goosebumps every time.
Ulf = ulv = old-fashioned word for "wolf", so it's a very cool name. The modern word for wolf is "varg", which is not a name in Sweden, but it is in Norway.
And yes, Ulf Lundell used to be known as Sweden's Bruce Springsteen for a while. Ulf has become reactionary in his old age though, while Bruce keeps pretty liberal.

"Dansband" is just like country in America, maybe Eloise is not the best example, but if you listen to other song from "dansband" you will see what I mean
This song is an anthem to Swedish aloofness that's why its considered a national anthem. Its all about nature and being left alone in it but not isolated. That's the Swedish dream.
To me the song is also indirectly praising past times when milk cows in greater numbers grazed outside in the Swedish countryside (instead of being stuck in the barn all year (not always economically viable to let them out), or the farmer having forced to stop keeping cows altogether since it's not profitable (the dairy corporations taking the profits). Outdoor cows will keep the fields open, creating "öppna landskap". I love the comments in here as well as the kind reaction videos!
Fantastisk låt. Jag gillar Ulf Lundell. Min favoritlåt är "Snart kommer änglarna att landa" men Öppna landskap är grymt bra. En liten historia. Min mamma skulle gå på en Ulf Lundell konsert i Borgholms slottsruin. Detra måsta ha vatt 85-86 nånting sånt. Ulf Lundell kom ut på Scenen men han var så full att konserten fick avbrytas. A fun sidenote that I came to think of when you mentioned that you were thinking of patriotism..
Well.. yes and no.. This is what we kind of think about in Sweden when we use the expression "Peasant romanticism"... (I remember an American lecturer who ones pointed out the difference between the "American Dream" and the "Swedish Dream", whereas the American dream is about being successful and makes a lot of money.. whereas the Swedish is to have a red cabin in the countryside where you can just enjoy the summer days)..
Unfortunately, BECAUSE it connects so deeply to the Swedish.. "soul of the people" it HAS been usurped by racists and "nationalists with a grudge".. Kind of as if enjoying the Swedish nature (which IS nice) somehow mean that we have to think that immigration is wrong.. This is of course false, if anything I believe in the "Shared joy is double joy", and I also hope I some day might be able to go abroad for a vacation and is allowed to (with good conscience) enjoy whatever nice things there might be there that are unusual here.. (F.ex. I hope that when I die it will be because I get mauled by a lion, and preferably NOT in a zoo)..
However; The important point I Want to come to is that Ulf Lundell have taken distance from the people who tries to give his work new meaning and asks people to "take this song back".. it has no intended hostility, nor egotism.. it's about a single person.. wanting to be content with life.
.. Oh; And his voice.. I am not ENTIRELY sure, but I think he lets his voice break intentionally.. he is not trying to be a "on key" or "perfect" singer.. His way to sing is creating a lot of the.. texture.. that underlines the scenario in the lyrics... I often use my voice in different ways (sometimes intentionally out of tune even, despite me hating things out of tune), just to "fit" the narrative.. he is kind of talking about a.. man... on his own.. possibly a bit sad and lonely, but.. actually thinking that is not so bad.. trying to find a place where he feels.. comfortable... So.. it's about "who am I delivering this message?"..
So very Nordic, to be away from people, close to nature and desire of darkness and simplicity.

Some argue this should be Sweden’s National anthem. Sort of agree, but as an Anti-Monarchist Monarchist, I would like “Kungssången” adapted to Victoria Reginas gender.
"Unofficial"? Propably because even the national anthem "Du gamla, du fria" is unofficial. (By the way: that's not unicgue at all.) But it's true - during the songs peaking years many people wanted to change national anthem to this one.

It's a really great song! I haven't listened to this for decades, but when I now do I think this is a song that everyone (at least every Swede) can appreciate, no matter what music genre you're into.
Ulf Lundell used to be called "The Bruce Springsteen of Sweden" (or something similar).

(Sweden has a national anthem, but it is in fact not official since pariment did not decide on it. It is about, not Sweden, but 'The North' or 'The Nordics'. Only nation that has an activly anti-nationalist but unionist national anthem as far as I know.)

I´m not a "dansband-man" myself but when so many people in Sweden like that kind of music I feeI have no right to say it´s shit. Theyr opinion is just as good as mine. What we call "dansband" is close to country music in America. Simple songs with lyrics about love (mostly). It´s the music that is played at country dance places and many swedes have met the love of their lives dancing to Arvingarna, Flamingokvintetten, Vikingarna or Thor-Leifs. This is the most swedish music there is. Like it or don´t!

In fact, even the song we call the anthem of Sweden isn't official named the anthem of Sweden. It has been a subject for debate several times if we should have an official anthem, maybe choosen by election. 'Öppna landskap' then has been mentioned as a suggestion for anthem.

Han sjunger faktiskt aldrig denna sången live. Han gjorde ett undantag för ett par år sen då låten fått mer uppmärksamhet när nationalister/nazister börjat claima den. Då sjöng han den för att "ta tillbaka den". Men innan det hade han inte sjungit den på många många år.
Alla som älskar Sverige och bor i Sverige är nationalister. Så äckligt skrattretande och ett tecken på vilken sjuk tid vi lever i att likställa nationalism med något fult. Ulf är nationalist och säkerligen du också.
@@Barbro247 Nej, vi är inte alla nationalister. Alla har inte filosofin att nationalstaten är en perfekt lösning. Många accepterar den för att det är den bästa lösning vi har just nu. Det går bra att vara stolt över Sverige utan att vara nationalist eller patriot. Det är verkligen trist dock att nazister och fascister m.fl. vill ockupera ordet nationalist, för jag håller helt med dig om att man kan vara nationalist utan att vara rasist.

Har varit Sveriges nationalsång i över 130 år så är inte väldigt tillfälligt :) Anledningen att den inte är "juridiskt officiell" är för att det då måste lagstadgas, något som inte gjorts då den anses vara så förankrad hos folket att politik inte ska styra över den.
