I haven’t seen this since I was child, I’m 65, and I loved it then and still so. So many great actors and character actors, so many funny lines from the mobsters and Peter Falk is fantastic.
One of My Favorite Movies! First appearance of Ann-Margret in a movie...Luminous! Peter Falk is HILARIOUS!!!! THANK YOU!!!🕊☮♥ What is left to say about Bette Davis? Everyone is so great in this movie!!!!
I am a child of the 1960's, so I grew up loving Ann Margaret in MANY different roles, like as a swinging dancer n cool girl in the Elvis n beach movies n as one of the BEST dancers on Broadway n in her own shows in Las Vegas, n even in Grumpy Old Men, but to see her debut in films here with all these legendary stars is a total treat!!! She ALWAYS delivers n is a total trouper to the end!!! Its great watching her so young n EVER so beautiful no matter how old she got!!! SUPERB film 📽️🎥!!!
Bette Davis is AWESOME as both Apple 🍏 Annie n in her transformation as Mrs. Worthington III, where she is tturned beautiful by Queenie, Hope Lange's character, and both actressess are ab fab!!!
What an amazing movie! Movies these days have nothing on these movies! This is so beautiful!!!!! Thank you for posting!!!! One of the BEST movies ever! I didn't know it existed 😭😭😭😭❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🌃🌃🌃🌃🌃🌃💖💖💖💖💖💖🎁🎁🎁🎁🎁🌌🌌🌌🌌🌌☺️☺️☺️☺️☺️☺️🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗
Glen Ford is excellent as Dave the Dude, n Peter Falk as Joy Boy IS a joy!!! Hope Lange goes toe to toe with Ford's Dave the Dude, as Queenie Martin, n Bette Davis is superb, like 2 different sides of one shiny coin!!! All the supporting cast is rather WONDERFUL, especially the Judge, Junior the cop, n the butler( who is a classic actor for years stemming from the 1930's on)!! A riotous frolick through underworld 1930's New York City to keep away the doldrums on a cold, grey Ohio March afternoon!!! ALWAYS a PLEASURE!!
Wow! I didn’t realize that was Hope Lange and Ann Margaret! Peter Falk is hilarious and of course the great Bette Davis. So many great actors! What an amazing ensemble cast.
Who comes up with such a story?! The cast is packed with shiny coins :))) It`s difficult to believe that Bette Davis was only 53 years old in this movie... Thank you very much for sharing.😊
This ranks one of the best films for its' time. The main lead Actors and the Supporting cast actors and the supporting cast who supported them as well. The film has its' editing flaws, but then what film doesn't today? The character portrayals are smooth and coordinated, as the camera works itself. (Capra) had a way of seeing all this in his Actors and a unique eye to purvey the continuity of both his actors and flow within film. I honestly have to say this is an entertaining film all the way round. Leastwise in my 60 years of watching films. A (5) star. Tip my hat with a thumbs-up DDF: Movie Day for a clean upload over through UA-cam. This is a bit rare these days as well. Nicely done and... Thankyou
If you also take notice! of how the clarity in the background is cleaner than most other films. This was due to a new camera lens development. Which was only adapted to certain features. The new movies of today should use this process. It was brilliant specially since it was patented so early on.
I saw this on TV when I was a kid, and enjoyed the story. But seeing it as an adult, I now get all the jokes. I lol’d a few times at the one-liners. All the praise is going to Peter Falk but for some reason Mickey Shaughnessy struck me as more comical. A screenwriting gem! My one critique is that the costumes and hair are not period authentic. For some reason movies of the 50s and 60s didn’t like to realistically outfit the actors when depicting the 1920s - 1930s
Superbly choreographed hilarious with added drama many top actors so hilarious 😂 😃 Ann Margaret her voice so sweet her leading husband to be OOOSH a 4xrepeat worthy 😄 the bowing😅
ma nooooo...hanno tagliato il pezzo più divertente del film quando tutti quanti si preparano a fingersi nobili...e che imparano a ballare e a parlare correttamente...
“She’s like a cock-a-roach what toined into a butterfly!” Cute. Nice touch of Damon Runyan. And I’m a big fan of Capra. And all those great character actors. Problem is, the film is too long. Should have had about 15-20 minutes trimmed. Too much emphasis on Ann-Margret (who’s miscast anyway).
Good Movie - I have seen it so many times but it still brings a tear to the eye. I wish movies wouldn't portray the poor and down trodden always as idiots and morons though - this is an old movie but they still do it in current ones.
It was nominated for 3 Oscars, one of which was “best supporting actor” for Peter Falk. It was nominated for four Golden Globes, for Bette Davis and Glenn Ford as best actress and actor. Ford won the award. Ann-Margret won as “most promising newcomer”. It was nominated, but didn’t win “best motion picture- comedy”. It was nominated for a DGA award for Frank Capra, and nominated (but didn’t win) several other, lesser known awards. Those “112k views” are on this particular upload, and not indicative of actual views since its release. Edit to add: This video now has over 123,000 views. That’s approximately 11,000 in the past 6 days.
$1 in 1930 would be $18.00 today. Apples sold for 5 cents to 50 cents. So when Dave gave Apple Annie $5 he was giving her $54 for a 5 cent apple. That's why she was so grateful. If he got her apples several times a week, that's a lot of cash.
I haven’t seen this since I was child, I’m 65, and I loved it then and still so. So many great actors and character actors, so many funny lines from the mobsters and Peter Falk is fantastic.

So awesome that this is on UA-cam!
delightful film and wonderful to see so many actors before they became famous ( except Bette Davis and Glen Ford)
I remember the first time I saw this , I was a kid , it made me cry and I still love it
The current state of cinema, with its negative influences, compels me to seek out alternative forms of entertainment.
An ab fab movie 🎥🎥 to watch on Leap Year night cold n windy for a 66 yr old woman who is illn!!! Thanks for posting!!!
"She's like a cockroach that turned into a butterfly" 😅 I enjoyed this movie.
Excellent movie! It tastes like theatre, like Die Drei Droschen Oper or My Fair Lady/ Pygmalion. Worth every minute!

The Beginning 🎉❤❤❤
My goodness cant believe this is free on youtube
I've always liked this movie and I miss it being shown on tv around Christmas time. Peter Mann (Carlos, the Count's son) was incredibly handsome. 😍
Glen Ford is a natural as Dave the Dude n as is Peter Falk who is hilarioysly sarcast!!!
Junior is hilarious as well.!! Of course the 2 female leads are the BEST!!
~ This is the second time Capra made this same film. The original was called Lady For A Day, made early on in his career in 1933 ~
Love this movie. Saw it 4 the 1st time about 10 yrs ago. I was lucky enough to find a vhs copy for $1 at a yard sale. Peter Faulk was priceless❤.
~ My favorite character was Peter Falk ~
Thank you ❤ This is one of my favorites 😊
I haven't seen this in almost 30 years still remember all the words

LOL ❤
Good movie. Really enjoyed it
Brilliant!! 🥰
It’s not an “English full movie”. It’s an American movie that is in English.
Deep breaths
I had only ever seen the older versions. This one is great also.
I've seen this film before and there are several scenes missing. This is the abridged version.
o no !
how sad
thanks for the heads up
In 1946 Bette Davis and Glenn Ford were lovers in the movie 'A Stolen Life.' How things change over the years. Particularly with movie stars.
Bravo!! And here I was thinking Fleetwood Mac discovered Silver Springs, MD.
Fleetwood Mac? My great aunt and uncle lived in silver spring MD in the seventies
Great movie
Hope Lange (Queenie) was cast because, at the time, she was Glenn Ford's girlfriend.
And she did a great job as Queenie.
Anne Margaret
Thank you, !!!
Thank 2🎉
Glenn Ford!!! Glenn Ford UA-cam Channel: ua-cam.com/users/RobbGF

questi erano bei film divertenti...
1961 💚🙏😇🙏💚 Thank you!
❤Peter Folk❤
Falk
Why they don't make does movies today?
This movie bombed when it came out - it made no money. People make movies that make money. Even independent films are expected to recover costs
Loved it ❤ #2024
Podrías subirla en español. Gracias
WOW!
So cute !
reminds me a bit of the Winning of Barbara Worth
“She’s like a cock-a-roach what toined into a butterfly!” Cute. Nice touch of Damon Runyan.
And I’m a big fan of Capra. And all those great character actors. Problem is, the film is too long. Should have had about 15-20 minutes trimmed. Too much emphasis on Ann-Margret (who’s miscast anyway).
I wish it was LOOONGER
How can you argue with Ann-Margaret cast as her daughter? Perfect! A great juxtaposition of talent!
What're they doing? [Crash] Playing house!!! Lol
Good Movie - I have seen it so many times but it still brings a tear to the eye. I wish movies wouldn't portray the poor and down trodden always as idiots and morons though - this is an old movie but they still do it in current ones.

1962 5$ apple
Early 2024 50$ apple
According to the inflation rate calculator.
😂 .. The Duke just gave her the 5 dollars out of kindness .. the apple didn’t cost 5 dollars.
It would be even more of a difference....if you calculate from the period in which the movie was staged....early 1930's.
$1 in 1930 would be $18.00 today. Apples sold for 5 cents to 50 cents. So when Dave gave Apple Annie $5 he was giving her $54 for a 5 cent apple. That's why she was so grateful. If he got her apples several times a week, that's a lot of cash.
