    Working with minimal tools and budget is not easy, but you soldiered on and have achieved great results. Having mom, sister, and brother in law nearby is a blessing as well. Simon’s skills and his willingness to teach and help you is invaluable. Omar has done very well indeed while still working to earn income. Not everyone is that ambitious! Great job everyone!

      Thank you very much for your comment! There has been times when we have thought to ourselves: “my goodness what have we done?!” But all in all we think it was a really good decision to come here plus having family is such a great blessing specially when they can be involved. We are incredibly lucky and blessed.
      We have all the confidence this will be a beautiful home in the future.

    Wow, Simon did so much in those four months alone. Simon that was incredible. Simon really takes his time and the quality of his work is exceptional. He takes pride in the finish and what he delivers. Your mom is adorable and so appreciative of what Simon, you and Omar have built. Well done every one. Looking back at this video Andrea, Omar and Simon just shows how far you guys have come in these last few months and the land is looking beautiful, you cleared so much and I thank you all for taking us on your adventure and I am enjoying the ride. Have a lovely week end.

    Time flies doesn't it? A year goes by before you know it. You've made such amazing progress; learned so many new skills; worked so very hard. Congratulations on a successful year. May the next year bring equally exciting progress! God bless Simon for his expertise and willingness to help make your dream a reality. Your mum has made wonderful contributions too. I usually do not enjoy timelapse episodes of renovations and builds, especially if we had followed the progress from all the previous episodes. But, this one was very enjoyable and we watched it all from beginning to end.
    Such a nice gift to your mother Andrea. Her smile is her gift back to you, Omar and Simon. Speaking of Simon, what a true craftsman! Will he available for hire next spring to help us out? We'll have a project in the area.

    • @TheIndigoEscape

      Thanks Bryan! That means a lot to me! I completely understand why someone who has been following us for a while may not enjoy it as its like seeing it allover again so this comment makes my day!
      About Simon's availability, maybe. Send me an email to contact@theindigoescape.com with more details about your reno. We try to keep Simon as much as possible as I think it would be truly difficult to get any close to his craftsmanship.

      @@TheIndigoEscape Well, I think that is well deserved. It takes a quite a bit of your time and effort to put something like this together and not making it boring. 🥱 😆 Good editing and good tunes to go along with it.
      I understand why you guys want to hang on to Simon as much as you can. Aside from being family, you can tell that he really enjoys his craft. He cares.
      We’re still currently in Canada but moving this fall. I’ll send you an email tomorrow.
      Saúde! Boa noite.

    Truly an amazing build . The Bathroom looks awesome . It amazes me the amount of people who take on these build jobs , either rebuilding a home from scratch or repairs , to doing up a boat . They do all this with little or no experience in any of the building trades . But they do make comment , that they do refer to You Tube . The end results speak for themselves . Stunning work , yes there are a few hick cup along the way , but that's part of the fun .
    I wish you all well and look forward to the finished HOME . Cheers from Australia .

    • @TheIndigoEscape
      @TheIndigoEscape  19 днів тому +1

      That you Bob! We at the beginning did many things ourselves like the tiny house but then realised quickly that it would be better to have someone onboard that is way more experienced than us so that’s how Simon got involved. Otherwise, we would have made many mistakes and lost a lot of money fixing our mistakes. So I’m quite glad we made that decision. 🥰

I found you just a few months ago, and haven't had time to go back to all the long format updates, so I never got to the "middle" videos, suddenly your mom just lived in this nice finished tiny house/room. Simon is a beast and I can't help but be impressed with his stonemason-ship. Or whatever the correct term is, I'm from Sweden... You and Omar sure put in the work, when you can, and learn when you cannot (from the start). Your piece of Portugal is shaping up nicely, and after the hard work you sure deserve it :-)

      Thank you for your comment. We did wanted to do a lot of things ourselves at the beginning but it is so much better having someone who knows what they are doing and then get them to do it while we can do other DIY projects, plumbing and electrics. I think if we tried to do more ourselves, we wouldn't be where we are in the project. Likely also, taking things down if they weren't done correctly which its a waste of time, money and materials.
      I have done a new playlist which may make it easier to follow the project :)

    Did you wet the stone before you pointed or rendered them? If you don't it'll suck out the moisture from your mix and make it crumble way before it's time. The water helps the stone bind to the render instead of coating it

    Recommend adding grab bar in the shower and one as you exit shower one more next to the toilet. She doesn’t need them today but safety is important.

    A slab of foam between the block wall and the stone cladding would have been nice

    • @TheIndigoEscape
      @TheIndigoEscape  2 дні тому

      Definitely, but because there were more than 50% original walls, having a insulated cavity for the remaining walls might not have such advantages..

    All the work, time, and effort was worth it. It's a very beautiful room for your mother. She was very happy with it. I will be also very grateful if my daughter and son in law would build me a place to live. My favorite part of the build is putting up the stone walls and the masonry. Please upload more videos on your project. Thanks for sharing.
