NMS travel is nice, but i would like for starfield to work more like star trek, basically you set your destination and your exit from the cockpit as the ship basically autopilots to the next desitnation while you walk around in your ship doing stuff while you wait, i mean you could talk to your followers or fix something in your gear in that time anything could happen while you wait as it happens in real time.
now i'm not saying it should be as long as it is in games like star citizen, but something long enough that it's not too boring and not too long either, however i do think the time it takes should depend on how far you travel to the next destination, so some destinations take longer than others, but it should also depend on your ship's engines to factor in that distance and speed percentage for time traveled.
you see bethesda already know how to make this kind of thing possible, because they did this kind of game loading back in FO4 whenever the player used an elivator, of course back then it was slow loading with HDD's and not SSD's which are far faster in comparison.
but your ship could essentailly be a loading cell but simulate to the player that it's actually traveling somewhere so you don't lose out on the feeling.
NMS travel isn't exactly possible in starfield, the engine can't handle that kind of travel, but it can do this other idea i'm talking about.

I want you to do a revisit to this video and rescore your questing and overall gameplay. You need to do this revisit immediately after performing the following task: Gain 10 special powers in consecutive fashion, one after the other with no breaks, just those. Then after that, do 10 more and then come back and give your questing score.

    • @RothTheSloth
      @RothTheSloth  10 місяців тому +1

But why? Just because a game has a boring part doesn't mean that's all it has. There's more to questing than getting your powers.

you can't say the game is a 7.5 and admit that a vital part of the game design is tedious and boring, which it is. So instead you say, 'do other things'. Look, just try it, get the first 10 in a row then see if you like the game after that. @@RothTheSloth

Starfield is mid. And look, finding fun in activities is always about attitude. Even throwing rocks at a tin can will employ some level of fun for hours. That doesn’t mean it’s the best. It is not a game of the year candidate.

  • @E90_who

I hated this game for the first 5 hours, but I feel like I was looking for that feeling of playing Skyrim at 20 years old.
Now I’m 150 hours in, haven’t finished the main story, haven’t finished the Crimson Fleet storyline, and have only completed side quests.
On nights I play, I play for hours.
I love the gun mechanics. It feels so nice to have weapons that are inaccurate in comparison to the likes of COD and Apex.
Ship combat isn’t great, but is acceptable in my opinion. This is also the first Bethesda RPG that I’ve played with any type of vehicle to control. I’m not surprised it’s not perfect. Personally, I’d rather not have to adjust my shield/weapon/grav power levels. That shit infuriates me. Starfield is not a space sim and ship combat is not prevalent enough to warrant that level of detail. I would prefer WASD be strafe forward/back/left/right, Q and E to be roll, and have the mouse for pitch/yaw. That’s how Star Citizen does it and I love the ship mechanics there. They even managed to make it work WITH having adjustable power levels.
I was disappointed about the not 100% explorable planets at first, but since I came from Star Citizen, I’m grateful for it now. What’s worse than a barren wasteland you can’t fully explore? A barren wasteland you CAN fully explore.
The NPC’s bug the hell out of me. Probably my biggest gripe. It’s not even the speech options. It’s the non-essential NPC’s walking around and how weird they are. Idk. It makes me lose some immersion or something.

I think you’re discounting that people wanted to enjoy starfield. Then came out of the experience not liking it. Should an rpg player just give Bethesda a pass for putting the literal Skyrim shout in the game? Or, instead of calling you Dragonborn, you’re starborn? Magic in space? They easily could’ve gone machine god with this. Or gone with more scientific things like worm holes or black holes linking multiverses. Melee is underwhelming to a guy who often played fallout 4 with stealth melee. Very little imagination in clothing & equipment. No karma system. No robot companion. No base building. Sure u can construct a ship. Yet how much freedom is allowed in decorating? FO4 is a decade older yet still beats starfield by miles when it comes to customization. & don’t even get me started on that stupid modding system. When one has to rate an rpg, those kinda of limitations will factor in. & if UA-camrs give it a less-than-stellar score, I don’t blame em.

If there is a good story behind horrendous gameplay, to an extent its just not worth it. If I have to play for 12 hours to enjoy it, then it’s just not really worth my time. Ultimately people play games to enjoy them. You don’t go to a fine art museum to see 100 kroger ads and 1 real peice of art, and thats really what is happening here.

Don't worry! I won't write an endless text. If you're interested in my experiences and opinions, let me know, and I'll write more. I love talking about games.
Well, first of all, I'm glad that everything shown in the deep dive actually appears in the game. Especially with minimal bugs, at least in my playthroughs on the Series X. It's more the small details and logic errors that bother me. There are no vehicles. Even though I understand Bethesda's approach here, it's still a hardship that we're supposed to explore the 1000 planets, each area of which is apparently supposed to be twice as large as Skyrim, on foot. Why did the temples remain undiscovered even though there's an outpost just 600 meters away? By the way, the powers are cool, but it doesn't feel satisfying to acquire them. If you've played Skyrim, you know how rewarding it feels to learn a new Dragon Shout after a dungeon filled with countless enemies, traps, and puzzles.
I used chat gpt to translate from german. I hope everything makes sense.lol
      Greetings from austria!

504 hours into the game - some people build sand castles, others quit after 20 hours.
