My son is a car mechanic, and when I told him about the leak on my C1, he showed me this video. I'm not good at DIY, but I was able to fix the leaks with your help - thank you.
I am grateful for the different ideas to stop the water leaking into the boot of my C1. However after trying all the various methods e.g. taking off the rear light clusters and sealing the holes where the wire goes through and also the rear centre stop lamp. The water still poured in. I eventually took off the seal around the back boot opening and cleaned it out, it was full of mould where the seal went over the metal edge. Having cleaned it thoroughly I replaced it and the water still poured in. I took the seal off again and put a bead of clear silicone all the way inside the seal where it clips onto the car body. I placed it back and it is now completely sealed - no more water . What I believe was happening was that the water got under the seal and found its way between the two pieces of metal which is where the seal covered it then ran into the boot from various folds and openings below the boot ledge. If you've tried everything else then try this and let me know if it works.
Hi Graham, I used to engineer door seals for Rover and you are quite correct. Water can track over the flange via the carrier. Wind and road noise too. All Rover's (and JLR's these days) seals have a bead of 'mastic' within the carrier to seal it to the flange - in much the same way you've done with silicon. I'd suggest you do the same with your door seals. I've just done this with my Saab's boot seal as part of my crash repair. Good job
Thank You so much for this video. I have a C1. I love the car except the leaking boot! Every time it rains the boot mat is soaking wet and then it takes days to dry out. My Husband used sealant on the rear high level brake light as shown in your video. We had really heavy rain last night and the boot was completely dry this morning!! The windscreen would have frost on the inside when frosty due to amount of moisture inside the car. So pleased this has finally been sorted, thank you.
Thank you so much for this! Very clear instruction on how to track down the leak and fix it! I got a second hand C1 which turned out to have a bad leak in the boot, took it back to the dealer who 'fixed it' - honestly think they just dried out the boot - Then had the seal replaced at my garage £££ and it still leaks. I will try your other suggestions and hopefully one will work. Thank you again - I live in hope now, lol.
Glad it helped! Since making this, i've also learned about the vents that are behind the bumper. They need sealing and you have to remove the bumper. There's also a new seal for the brake light now: ua-cam.com/video/2c7aW6k5nvo/v-deo.html
Great explanation. You forgot the vent holes behind the bumper. There is a foam sealing too which is totally inadequate. I replaced it with sanitary sealing. This was my 80% leakage. Rest is probably left lights or top brake light.
Getting the rear bumper off my aygo is so hard to do imp. Cant get the things underneath out of it. I fixed the other things hopefully that is enough..
We have a Citroen C1, paid £10k for it just under 1 year ago from the main dealer in Worthing, and the car leaks like a bitch. Now I know what I have ti do thanks to this video, I will make a start. Thank you for the easy diagnostics you've explained.
I have the same problem with our C1. I was completely sure that it is the tail break light, but it's nice to see that someone else has bothered to explain this to other owners. I think my rear lights seals are ok, but I'll replace these as well just in case. Many thanks!
Watch this boot leak video on my Saab too and treat your tailgate seal the same way with silicone. I'll make a video showing this process on the C1 in the new year ua-cam.com/video/_itEJxRSdZI/v-deo.html
@@JuanGonzalez-pf2tu Thanks, that's good to know. I do try to cover all the salient points, whilst cutting out the 'flannel', but sometimes it's a fine line. Welcome aboard
My leaking C1 was caused by the high level brake light. After watching multiple videos and reading multiple forums I mucked around with the hatch seal and rear lights for a day before I even considered the brake light. Nobody seems to think the brake light is a problem - but it absolutely was in my case.
Just bought a cheap C1 with no boot carpet , so assuming a water issue , this is a good vid for the potential problems and how to sort them without spending a fortune ,cheers :)
The foam between my rear light clusters and the bodywork had completely perished, so I doubled up the foam seal strip. I also ran a bead of silicone around the base of it to make double sure. Great video.
Yeah, it's not the best foam in the world. The only problem with using silicon is that you might have to destroy the new foam next time you need to change a bulb. I'm currently looking for suitable LED bulbs to do a complete cluster conversion, then it [probably] won't matter if it's fully sealed.
@@CycloneCyd I only used silicone around the base where the new seal adheres to the bodywork, just to help keep it in place and add another layer of waterproofing - the top just squishes against the light cluster assembly.
Since I made this video, there has been a new product made available: new seals for the lights. Get a pair here (delivery available across Europe): amzn.to/3JijxpF
I had water in the boot of mine as well, fixed the leak by just wrapping some bitumen (commonly used to seal off speakers) on the contact patches of the rear lights and the brake light. Since then, no more leakage.
Thank you for the tips, I got the x8r seals kit off ebay and I've changed the seals on the rear light clusters. I couldn't unfortunately get the middle light off as once the screws were out it seems the previous owners had glued it on and when trying to take it off the plastic was starting to crack so I left it in situ and have used clear sealant round it to try and help! The bottom of the carpet was soaked so hoping these changes help!
Thanks for this video. I found an inch of water in the spare wheel well this morning and the carpet was soaked! Now I have an idea where to start looking 👍
Start at the top brake light. I've a seperate video on that with links to a replacement seal in the description. ua-cam.com/video/2c7aW6k5nvo/v-deo.html
Just fixed a water leak around the light cluster on my C1 thanks to your tips and used your other video on light cluster removal too. Might be nominating you for an MBE mate.
Cheers mate good video. My main leak was the middle brake light, I removed it cleaned off the old gasket applied a beed of black silicon, fitted it back to the car cleaned off the excess silicon beautiful job. Oh shit I had forgot to connect the lights plug what a Donkey. So today I removed the light again, it was a bit of a struggle getting it out ,but with the help of a credit card inserted between the light and the car I managed .After cleaning of the old silicon which is a B of a job , refitted it cured . My secondary leak is on the door gasket at the bottom 150mm to the right of the catch .When I lifted that section of seal it looks like water is tracking under the gasket and over the lip where the door seal fits. I put some grease on this and refitted the seal to see if that is indeed the case . Will let you know. Have a nice Christmas . Andy
Hi Andrew, thanks for recounting your experience. Who amongst us has never done that eh? You can't learn from mistakes you don't make, lol!! Do you mean water is tracking around the seal carrier / body flange interface? better quality seals on more expensive cars have a mastic sealant deep in the carrier to prevent that. Take the seal off all round and use a very fine nozzle to put silicon bead dep in the carrier and put back.
The C1/107 seal does have a white mastic sealant in the groove of the seal - where it contacts the bodywork of the car. It's a kind of putty-like substance. I have two broken seals in my garage to prove this - one of which is the original from my late 2011 C1. If I was to use grease, I would go for silicone grease to avoid damaging the EDPM rubber.
Fantastic video - my 107 leaks like a sieve, will be doing these fixes - thanks for the advice. Question, what is the yellow sound deadening you are using on the boot floor over the spare tyre?
Before you launch into it, watch this video. It has a link to the new seals on Amazon in the description too: ua-cam.com/video/2c7aW6k5nvo/v-deo.html Just a spare piece of carpet underlay. A temporary measure. I'll be doing some proper sound proofing soon following on from this exercise on the Saab ua-cam.com/video/gY9CLaJMdxQ/v-deo.html
This has been very useful. It would have been a shame to lose such a tough little runabout this way after the winter monsoon of 2019, so thanks very much!
Thanks for an excellent video. I've followed alot of peoples advice on the water leaks. But still had a problem with water coming down the rear panel. From what you've said this will fix it. Many thanks. Keep up the great videos 👍
So great I found this, sounds like its definitely going to be that top brake light as the boot is wet on the sides only inside the car but water has been filling in the spare tyre mould. Will get some silicone and try this fix, I'm almost 100% sure this will solve it. Thanks so much!
Nice informative video CC! The problem I have with my Peugeot 107 is that after a big rain shower the water comes in all the way in the back! Not to the sides behind lights but to the right and mostly to the left - right underneath the cables the passes from right to left.. So where could the leak most likely be? Thanks, Peter
Leak from high brake light, great vid thanks. Resealed, still leak, resealed rear lights, still leak, checked seal around glass which was ok, eventually found leak was getting behind rubber seal so removed, cleaned and filled with silicone sealant. All dry, YAY!
I'm having the same issue! Had new light unit fitted as was told water was coming in through there, still leaking, now mechanic has said it could be the tailgate seal only available from main dealer..car full of condensation now, did you put silicone under the tailgate seal and around it?
Very useful video ! This has just happened to me after some heavy rain. It may have been happening before but nothing i had noticed. I cleaned everything, leaving things to dry and i will investigate as to which of these 3 parts have failed me! 😄
Brilliant video thank you and just frustrating you have to go to this trouble for this car in the first place. Very clear instructions and really appreciated.
Nice work thanks i have sealed up the high mount brake light and fitted new bulbs i am doing the rear lamps next did you remove the old foam from the lamps when you fitted the new stuff ?
Thanks for this. Been quoted £125 at the garage to remedy my boot leak on my Aygo. I've done the silicone on the tail light first, if this doesn't remedy I'll try the other options. I already had clear silicone sealant and the rest of the tools to sort this, so fingers crossed it done. If not the clear instructions and ease of the job to do the rest doesn't worry me. Especially as you'll of saved me £125! TOP MAN Cheers :-)
Hi Julie, the high level brake light is especially common as the gasket breaks down, so I'd suggest doing that anyway. Water getting in here also damages the bulb holder contacts and can render it useless.
Hi Cyd, just wondering what your thoughts are on rust convertor? Sub frame is corroded and was going to convert then paint but folk saying tht will trap rust in and cause rot. Cheers
You are great! You have more knowledge as my Toyota workshop in Hamburg, Germany. There, they are idiots. I had this problem with water in my trunk in my Toyota Aygo a lot of times in the past 15 years. The only idea the guys at the workshop had was to replace the rubber that encloses the trunk hood for two times. With no effect. To everything bad I had the feeling that at the 2nd time where I paid for a new rubber I could swear they charged me with the amount for this work, but the rubber was not exchanged. Thank you very much for your helpful video! 🙂
This video is fabulous! My car has been falling apart recently (back windows fell off and smashed, and now my horn beeps when I turn my wheel) and to top it all off I have a leak that's so bad my windscreen is covered in water droplets every morning! I have already fixed the back windows myself but I didn't realise about the other 2 places it could leak. I'm so glad I found your videos to help me out!
Hi Kate, Thanks for watching and for the kind words. Welcome aboard. Is yours a 5 door? And was it the rear door glass that fell out? Came detached from it's hinges?
@@CycloneCyd yes it is a five door :) it was the back side windows that fell off the hinges (the glue just disintegrated) unfortunately one fell off when I was driving and smashed so I had to claim off my insurance and ring autoglass to get a replacement, then the night of the window being fixed I went outside to look at it and found my other one had fallen off! I just glued that one back on with some windscreen sealant and it seems to have worked but last week I got a recall letter from Citroen about the windows falling off. It's a bit late now, Haha!
@@katewc Hello again Kate, thought as much. I was going to tell you about the recall. I'd say take it in for the recall action anyway. That way your second window will be fixed properly and you won't have the lack of recall work for someone to knock you down with should you ever sell the car. The horn beeping thing could be the clockspring behind the steering wheel. There are several C1 breakers on the Facebook forums so a 2ndhand one shouldn't be hard to find.
Hi cyclone cyd, I can’t seem to find the leak in my C1, somehow the water seems to find its way into the rear footwell behind the passenger seat. I’m yet to have a look at the boot seal and the lights. Do you think it’s the passenger door seal or the boot seal (or the lights)?
Any ideas for a citeron c2 2007. Water coming in from the upper break light, back left light unit, and also getting into the back left passenger footwell
Hi Cyd Great videos, been very useful. I have a 107 and it has been leaking through the passenger door, do you have a video about how to fix something like that?
Hi cyclone Sid. Great video thanks. I’d like to ask, just how much water do you think the rear vents might let in realistically in normal rainy conditions?
Hi Dima, thanks for watching and interacting. Yes, they do. I'm intending to do a separate video on that, including it here would have made this video too long.
Besides the hatch glass when first checking is there any difference in knowing if you think one or the other is the one that is most likely leaking because the water leaks down into the boot area the same or is it just as easy to check the top little light first?
On the OE production lines they use spray booths that put out a fine mist (sprayed at 2bar was the old Rover spec). The water contains a UV dye. It's nearly impossible to do on a DIY basis at home (I'll have a think about it though, see if I can come up with anything). Anyway up, I've been following forums for decades and the empirical data would suggest the third brake light is the most common leak, followed by rear lights. I've got a couple of ideas for the main boot seal and am waiting on material to test them before I do a video. Oh, one area I didn't cover in this video (but will in the future) is the rear air extract vents, but this requires bumper removal. I also have to be careful: the C1 is the wife's car. She's not so keen on my taking it to pieces "just for the fun of it"
Hallo, did the work on my rearlights and the 3rd brake light as you explained in this great video on my Peugeot 107, and no more water in the boot since. So a big thank you sir this was very helpfull. Also replaced the interior filter myself thanks to another video of yours. Thanks again,Greetings from holland
Hi there Anjemi, thanks for watching and for the compliment. Do remember to like 👍 the video and consider subscribing. There'll be more C1 🚘 stuff coming later in the year 📅 hopefully (it's far too reliable, hardly ever needs work, lol 😎)
Thank you a great video. Now just to work put where its leaking. The top part of the side carpet lining is dry, bottom damp so I'm thinking seal or light
Tail lights or centre brake lights are the most likely culprits. Watch how I treat my Saab boot seal in this video, then do the same with your tailgate seal and side door seals. ua-cam.com/video/_itEJxRSdZI/v-deo.html
Many thanaks for the that . My c1 has been to the garage 5 times for water leaks in the boot . I now have spent hundreds in trying to get it fixed , new lights etc . Looking at you video i now think it could be the top brake lights ( i think you called then the Chmsl ? ) . Next Tuesday it goes in again , 6th time in 3 years of mopping up in the boot . Fingers crossed . Many thanks .
I think you'd be better DIYing. Most garages aren't fit to service a walking stick IMO. Diagnosis by guesswork - lots of profit for them, precious little in it for you.
Thank you! Thank you for describing where the water would be going from the break light. I reckon that's my issue as both sides of the carpet were wet rather then the centre. I'll wait for a dry day before I have a go at this. Bloomin leaky car, my inside light is leaking as well 😅
The rain comes in on my (5 door '09) Aygo. It looks wet under the seals on the back windows, and the rain then drips down onto the rear floormat. However, the carpet in the boot feels dry to the touch. It looks like it's coming in through the seals somehow, although plan B is to tip water over the doors while someone is sitting in the car, to identify for certain how it's coming in. Other than checking the back windows are fully closed (!) do you have any suggestions on anything I can check / do to resolve this, other than taking it to a garage? It looks like the recall for the windows has been done years ago. (My skills are somewhat lacking when it comes to anything other than very basic car maintenance, but I really want to learn more of how to take care of my Aygo rather than always paying someone else to do it!!)
Sounds like it could be the main door seals. Maybe the bubble is damaged or squashed? OR water could be coming around the seal carrier - I had that problem on my Saab boot seal: ua-cam.com/video/_itEJxRSdZI/v-deo.html. Good idea with the water. use a hose if you can. Let us know how you get on
@@CycloneCyd Having tipped water over the back door & window, it looks like it's coming through the base of the seal around the rear window (water comes in when I tipped water lower than the top of the window). The seal around the window doesn't look like it's the same level all the way around, so I don't know if that would have any bearing on it letting water through?
Seal's been removed & re-fitted in the sections where it looked like it wasn't level, so all I need now is either another very rainy day, or a bucket of water to tip over the door and test it out!
Thank you for the video, I tried to order the same waterproof tape, but I did not find it available on the link that I put, I searched on the same site and found this tape. Is it the same type and is it good for this problem?
@@CycloneCyd I was prepared from the comment because I put the link,I tried to place the link more than once in a while until my comments were blocked، can you help us by putting a similar link to this waterproof tape, thanks
Hi Great Video, just from doing the checks I found that I couldn’t alter the boot lock the 10m bolts only go in one hole. I have identified the leak is the seal and have purchased a new one😒 how do you disconnect the rear wiper lead that comes through the old seal on the left side. Thanks
Did you remove old seal from light after using rubber seal on car aperture as we could t see if old seal was still on light in addition to seal you put on car ?
Hi Earlams, I left the original foam seal on as ours was still in good condition. The problem as I see it, is that the original foam sometimes doesn't make proper contact all round. So the extra material helps that.
You can, but that could give you a problem further down the line. Standard filament bulbs will eventually fail and using an adhesive may mean you are unable to get the light off to replace them. At least with silicon you'd be able to prize it off with a trim removal tool (or a wood spatula)
@@CycloneCyd - You assessment is absolutely correct. Although I suggest replacing the W5W bulbs on the third brake light by compatible LED's. Under normal circumstances, if all work correctly, probably the user will never touch them again! Cheers Edit: Urethane sealer might be a better choice than silicone or adhesive. ;-)
@@crpth1 Agreed, however, if the light has suffered water ingress the bulb holder contacts may be corroded, possibly unusable. I am planning to do an LED conversion video. The size of the LEDs is also important.
thank you so much! very helpful! could you do a video on how to reinstall the air box in the C1 as the back clip is very hard for me to put it back in i pinches te skin of my fingers and very frustrated also there’s no videos on it that i can find.
Fourth (4th) video in my playlist: ua-cam.com/play/PLOaePmzqZNJ1fPE11dUmVEWmT7kT4OmAQ.html What search terms were you using? My filter video ranks high for a variety of terms.
If ANY of the air box clips are difficult to reinstall it's Human error! Make sure all is properly aligned. When replacing the air filter, notice there's specific orientation for it. You'll be able to see that one corner is in fact rounded, all three others are not! ;-) Same for the lid. Fit on the rubber grommets of the PCV and the throttle body first. Then wiggle the remaining plastic cover into proper position. DO NOT FORCE anything. If force is required you're messing up. Cheers
Really useful video. I have this problem and am about to tackle it. By the way, what was that word you used for the central light above the tailgate? Chinzel? I couldn't find the word in any dictionary, but happy to use it if that's what it is!
Yeah, that's a good point, lol. Don't overdo the silicon and it should be easy enough to break the seal at a later date. I'd also suggest cleaning up the light and fitting new bulbs at the same time as sealing it. You could fit red w5w and hopefully never need to change them again. I have a pair of these bit.ly/w5w_LED in my Saab side repeaters (amber obviously). They are superb.
@@CycloneCyd - Plus one on the LED option. If there's no faults in them, it return a true peace of mind. Always working whenever needed. What more can we ask for?! On my particular Toyota Yaris, the brake lights and the head lights were a monthly consumption, so to speak! Some years ago changed to LED on the rear. So far, never touched the thing again! :-)
Interesting how common this is, from 128k views. On ours sons, I removed the internal trim and ran a hose over it. Lo and behold, both foam rear light seals were leaking.
I seem to have water getting behind the seal ie. Around the flange that the seal clips on to. I have tried putting a sealant into the seal and pressing it back on again.
Wow, wet rear seat on a 3 door. On a 5 door it'd be the door seals, but obviously not on a 3 door. New one on me. If you find out will you video or photo it for me? and let me know? Please.
@@CycloneCyd I found out that there was a lot of water in the boot and spare tyre well. So I guess this was splashing around and being absorbed by the seat. I have put mastic on the high brake light and also the both rear lights. It's still early if it's resolved the problem.
This really helped me thank you! Trying to sort my daughters C1 and I've stopped the water leak thanks to this. Does anyone know anything about a very noisy rattle from the rear? Sounds like the rear glass is going to fall out! It's not parcel shelf or spare tyre/jack as I removed them in process of elimination.. any help would be most appreciated , I'm a total novice and there's only me to fix her car for her. Thank you!
Yeah, ours did that too. It's liklely to be that the glass hatch is not being pulled down sufficiently hard on the seal. Try adjusting the striker inboard as I show you. If that doesn't help I've got a potential solution in the pipeline, but for now add some duct tape to the glass as suggested. Build up the layers, especially on the lower half untill it stops the rattle, then add one more layer.
Just bought one which an old chap had. It had been stood a while and things just felt a little.fusty. now am I running each ride it gets better. But the smell of fust if you get me is still there any ideas? Thanks x
Beside all the remedies already mentioned. There's nothing like a dehumidifier running inside the car for at least 24h. Any trace of moisture will be gone. The smell should go along. ;-)
Try Fabreeze or whatever your market equivalent is. Also might be worth hiring a Rug Doctor and removing seats and boot carpets and using the stairs tool on them. If you've got aircon, run it on max fan set to recirc with the car fully closed up for a few hours, if you can't get a dehumidifier
@@CycloneCyd thanks everyone. I had a fully val a few months ago. But every now then can still smell it. If its been stood for a while like during this lockdown in the UK. So I will give that ago. Hello mine is leaking through the boot seal. I put an extra seal above the original seal but still leaking a bit. Should I replace the original seal too or what would u do. Thanks
It might be coming in round the seal carrier rather than being a contact issue to the glass. I haven't done a video on this subject specifically for the C1 yet, but I have covered it in a Saab video. IIRC the boot seal chapter is chapter 4 in this ua-cam.com/video/_itEJxRSdZI/v-deo.html. Watch this section carefully then do exactly the same on your boot seal. If you need a silicon gun, this is good value from the nice people at Everbuild (mine is over 20 years old!) amzn.to/36I4p31 and their general purpose sealant is top notch and good value amzn.to/3nwZZD2. Do let us know how you get on and if you still suffer leaks PS 👆 it's a good idea to do this with your door seals too 👍
Great video. My 08 C1 is dry in the boot but the back seats are damp (not sopping wet though). My mum also thinks it's quite noisy (like wind/draught noise) if she sits in the back. Any thoughts about this? TIA
@@CycloneCyd Youve got a really clear way of explaining how you determine where the leak in. Just as a heads up, it might be good to include the vents under the rear bumper too. After sealing the top and side brake lights didn't work, I found the seals around the vents had failed completely on my 107

Yeah, let's not beat about the bush here, the headlights are shite❗ I have just recieved an LED product which will hopefully address this situation. I will be trying it out and testing it over the next week or so. I believe the product to be road legal and affordable, but will be consulting a friend on the legal aspect. Hi I have a C1 and have no problems with the boot however my back seat (just behind the driver) is constantly saturated since winter started. Do you have any tips?
Having been to a car wash to identify where the leak in my boot was coming from, i found it was the upper left side of the tailgate seal so I replaced it which I had to trim to size and then put silicon between the two sides to form a nice seal. A further car wash shows that the replaced seal seems to have worked and no water was trickling in as before but there seems to be slight condensation in the boot. Any thoughts ??
Hi there Fist Of Blur Leath25, thanks for watching and welcome aboard. May be consider getting your son to subscribe. Learning to look after a car well is a valuable skill best learned from an early age. the car in the video is my wife's. I doubt there is the remains of a broken key in the barrel, as these keys are quite substantial. Maybe there's dirt in there causing a pin to stick. In the first instance I'd suggest spraying a good jet of brake cleaner into the barrel. Repeat twice more at 1 minute intervals. Follow this up with a blast of penetrating oil. Give it a few moments to work in and try putting the key in again, waggle a bit if needed. If this is successful I'd suggest removing the key barrel to give it a more thorough cleaning and lube. Clean through with brake cleaner and then lube with white grease (spray white grease is just the job). If you have any general purpose lithium grease in a tin, inject it into the barrel with a syringe. Work the barrel with the key. If this doesn't do the job, come back. I've got an idea for how you can get into the boot, but need to investigate on wife's car first.
Thanks for the info just been looking at it from inside .the inside latch was not turning enough in order to open lock.i gave it a few taps with a light hammer and did the trick, sprayed wd40 inside for now as I haven't got the grease.working well so far.thanks for the info on the leak sons got the same problem will go through your list.just subscribed to your channel.cheers from Carl Birmingham UK.
Do you have any more details on the self-adhesive waterproof rubber seal you used please? It looks a bit like a draught excluder but I'd like to buy the exact same one. One other tip I have hard (other than using silicone here - which has the major disadvantage of making a bulb change destructive) is to try cavity wax between the foam of the rear light cluster and bodywork. I have yet to try this one myself so cannot comment on the effectiveness or longevity of the "fix". Thanks.
As you say silicon sealer is destructive next time you need to change a bulb. A Good point. Haven't tried cavity wax. Sounds messy to me. Here's the sealing strip amzn.to/2G8A5Ut Are you in the UK or elsewhere?

🎥 NEW third brake light SEAL: ua-cam.com/video/2c7aW6k5nvo/v-deo.html
My son is a car mechanic, and when I told him about the leak on my C1, he showed me this video. I'm not good at DIY, but I was able to fix the leaks with your help - thank you.
Why didnt he help you
I am grateful for the different ideas to stop the water leaking into the boot of my C1.
Pleased for you. It's defo this car's Achiles heel
I'll make a video showing this process on the C1 in the new year
ua-cam.com/video/_itEJxRSdZI/v-deo.html
@@CycloneCyd Well it's already fixed, but you have a new subscriptor nonentheless. Good videos btw, very well explained!
Just bought a cheap C1 with no boot carpet , so assuming a water issue ,
this is a good vid for the potential problems and how to sort them without spending a fortune ,cheers :)
When putting some new foam round the lights do you take the old foam off the light while you put the new one off
Since I made this video, there has been a new product made available: new seals for the lights.
Put some sealant over the screws on the third brake light too. ua-cam.com/users/clipUgkxiVgfpo060yGWdlnSRhBSAofIvGeApcjR
@@CycloneCyd thanks for the tip, will do that now too! Now I've also got to deal with the mould that's started to grow on the back seats sadly :(
Thanks for this video.

Brilliant, thanks very much, can I ask for the top light can you not just replace seal, or is silicone better
Just fixed a water leak around the light cluster on my C1 thanks to your tips and used your other video on light cluster removal too. Might be nominating you for an MBE mate.
Ha, ha, wouldn't that be something
great video and clearly explained. the problem with my aygo is the water lekkage behind the passengers seat. any idea what this could be ?
I would be checking door seals
It has a link to the new seals on Amazon in the description too: ua-cam.com/video/2c7aW6k5nvo/v-deo.html
Just a spare piece of carpet underlay. A temporary measure. I'll be doing some proper sound proofing soon following on from this exercise on the Saab ua-cam.com/video/gY9CLaJMdxQ/v-deo.html

Awesome! Great to hear! Welcome aboard
You can empty the spare wheel well by removing a rubber bung. Don't forget to put it back though.
@@madjojo82 Yes, took seal from the body and filled the channel where the car body fits into with silicone sealant. still dry.

Nice work thanks i have sealed up the high mount brake light and fitted new bulbs i am doing the rear lamps next did you remove the old foam from the lamps when you fitted the new stuff ?
Hi chris, no I left the original foam seal in place, it's about an inch thick so would be quite hard to replace.
@@CycloneCyd ok nice one thanks
Thank you for the video, do you have a link of the Waterproofrubber seal you use? Kindly regards
where did you buy the black self adeshive water proof tape from thanks
Do you mean the foam tape for around the aperture behind the main lights. Some of this in 15mm wide by 10mm thick: bit.ly/EPDM_seling_strip
@@CycloneCyd, Yes the foam tape can't find anything in UK
What size self adhesive foam tape is best for use around the rear lights?

Very useful! Do you use this car for today?
Thank your for this. I had a leak problem with my Toyota Aygo and I can’t seem to find where the leak comes. I have solved it because of your video. 😊
Love British accent :) very helpful video, many thanks!
You're welcome!
Hi cyclone cyd,
I can’t seem to find the leak in my C1, somehow the water seems to find its way into the rear footwell behind the passenger seat. I’m yet to have a look at the boot seal and the lights. Do you think it’s the passenger door seal or the boot seal (or the lights)?
Any ideas for a citeron c2 2007. Water coming in from the upper break light, back left light unit, and also getting into the back left passenger footwell
Hi Cyd
Great videos, been very useful. I have a 107 and it has been leaking through the passenger door, do you have a video about how to fix something like that?
No I haven't. It's probably the door seals. I'll look into it and see if I can do a video.
Hi cyclone Sid. Great video thanks.
I’d like to ask, just how much water do you think the rear vents might let in realistically in normal rainy conditions?
Oh, the rear vents _can_ let in loads. I haven't done ours, we don't seem to have a problem with them. You need to take the bumper off to get at them.
This cars leak a lot from the seals around the vents under the rear bumper. You need to remove the bumper and reseal them.
Hi Dima, thanks for watching and interacting. Yes, they do. I'm intending to do a separate video on that, including it here would have made this video too long.
Sorry, I didn't read this before saying the same. My comment links to a photo of what happens to the seals of those vents.
When you say silicone sealant is that just regular bathroom silicone? it says it's UV resistant and works up to 150 C temp on mine.
She's not so keen on my taking it to pieces "just for the fun of it"
@@CycloneCyd Thanks for that and let us know, but perhaps the rear air ducts would leak on higher mileage cars as mine has only done 21000 ?
@@gtibruce it's more likely an age related problem than a mileage related one.
Luckily, removing the bumper is fairly easy though.
Hallo, did the work on my rearlights and the 3rd brake light as you explained in this great video on my Peugeot 107, and no more water in the boot since. So a big thank you sir this was very helpfull.

Many thanks for the good explanation and the great video. Just did my wife's 107 and it's finally dry
Fantastic! pleased for you
Thank you! Thank you for describing where the water would be going from the break light. I reckon that's my issue as both sides of the carpet were wet rather then the centre. I'll wait for a dry day before I have a go at this. Bloomin leaky car, my inside light is leaking as well 😅
Yeah, a dry day is best
ua-cam.com/video/gbiqXvOkNtY/v-deo.html
For break light fixing use also butylstrip......

Hi Great Video, just from doing the checks I found that I couldn’t alter the boot lock the 10m bolts only go in one hole. I have identified the leak is the seal and have purchased a new one😒 how do you disconnect the rear wiper lead that comes through the old seal on the left side. Thanks
Did You get the new seal from main dealer? I'm trying to source a decent one!
What size does the seal for lights need to be?
This will do you nicely: bit.ly/3x10_Foam_seal_x1m
Brilliant thanks, I wondered where that water was coming from
Nice clear video which fixed my issue - thank you!
Excellent video. Well explained and a good clear picture. Very good advice. Thank you.

Can I use adhesive seal instead of silicon for the third brake light?
You can, but that could give you a problem further down the line. Standard filament bulbs will eventually fail and using an adhesive may mean you are unable to get the light off to replace them. At least with silicon you'd be able to prize it off with a trim removal tool (or a wood spatula)
@@CycloneCyd - You assessment is absolutely correct. Although I suggest replacing the W5W bulbs on the third brake light by compatible LED's. Under normal circumstances, if all work correctly, probably the user will never touch them again! Cheers
Edit: Urethane sealer might be a better choice than silicone or adhesive. ;-)
@@crpth1 Agreed, however, if the light has suffered water ingress the bulb holder contacts may be corroded, possibly unusable. I am planning to do an LED conversion video. The size of the LEDs is also important.

Fourth (4th) video in my playlist: ua-cam.com/play/PLOaePmzqZNJ1fPE11dUmVEWmT7kT4OmAQ.html
What search terms were you using? My filter video ranks high for a variety of terms.
If ANY of the air box clips are difficult to reinstall it's Human error! Make sure all is properly aligned. When replacing the air filter, notice there's specific orientation for it. You'll be able to see that one corner is in fact rounded, all three others are not! ;-)
Same for the lid.
CHMSL, pronounced chim-sel, stands for Centre High Mounted Stop lamp
How would change the bulb in the 3rd top break light after sealing it?
They're almost designed to leak, lol

Yeah, I think every car leaks here once the gasket degrades. 👍
I seem to have water getting behind the seal ie. Around the flange that the seal clips on to. I have tried putting a sealant into the seal and pressing it back on again.
What could be causing a wet rear seat on a 2009 C1 3 door?
Yes.water dripping down .got same problem
Wow, wet rear seat on a 3 door. On a 5 door it'd be the door seals, but obviously not on a 3 door. New one on me. If you find out will you video or photo it for me? and let me know? Please.
@@CycloneCyd I found out that there was a lot of water in the boot and spare tyre well. So I guess this was splashing around and being absorbed by the seat. I have put mastic on the high brake light and also the both rear lights. It's still early if it's resolved the problem.

High level brake light leaking as in the video. That was the problem with my Aygo, wet seat & puddle in the boot.
Could be the spare wheel not secured or tightened down.
There is a recall on hinges to the tailgate glass, this may be your problem btw.....

Do let us know how you get on and if you still suffer leaks
PS 👆 it's a good idea to do this with your door seals too 👍
When readjusting the boot lock do you push away or towards the opening? Thanks.
to tighten the glass pressure on the seal, push the latch forward (in car line) and vice versa to release
Great video. My 08 C1 is dry in the boot but the back seats are damp (not sopping wet though). My mum also thinks it's quite noisy (like wind/draught noise) if she sits in the back. Any thoughts about this? TIA
If it's a 5 door, then door seals ar a likely cause
@@CycloneCydSorry, should have said. It's a 3 door ;-P
Thank you! Greatings from Germany! Top Video!
Thanks for watching! Schweinshaxe washed down with weissbier 🍻 yummy. Best I ever had was in Wupertal.
Fantastic, super clear guide which really helped me out. Thanks!
Glad to hear it! Which aspect particularly helped?
@@CycloneCyd Youve got a really clear way of explaining how you determine where the leak in. Just as a heads up, it might be good to include the vents under the rear bumper too. After sealing the top and side brake lights didn't work, I found the seals around the vents had failed completely on my 107
Wauw and Thank you👍🏻 I am 61, woman and got my first car ever a year ago - used one of course😊 And now I have fixed it my self, thanks to tour video - and it works👍🏻 Amazing feeling 🙏🏻👌🏻💪🏻
Awesome 👍👍, before you know it you'll be building a kit
Serious Q: 92% of viewers are male 👎 how do I appeal more to female viewers? Is it just the nature of the topic?
I optimise my videos for search, so maybe there's just less women searching in car related subjects.
I dont Think the average woman fix cars and things like that. But I asked some men of course and they all Said search UA-cam. Now I searc everything on UA-cam before I split it into small pieces 😆 and it is genius👍🏻
I am not average... 😧 I also build porches, furnitures, small shelters etc. my self 😬
But you are very easy to understand and the film was very good and detailed👍🏻👌🏻I will recommend you for my male friends 😁
Gr8! Need to know what kind of silicone gel i need for this reparation. Acrylic one?
Hi Jetz, thanks for watchong. Nothing special required, this or something like it will do nicely:

@@CycloneCyd Acrylic is really for interior decorators.
Can I only remove the bumper without the rear lights? I did the rear lights today and the thirds light yesterday, but it's still leaking so must be grids....
Any bulbs which make the head lights more brighter they are pretty poor
Yeah, let's not beat about the bush here, the headlights are shite❗
I have just recieved an LED product which will hopefully address this situation. I will be trying it out and testing it over the next week or so. I believe the product to be road legal and affordable, but will be consulting a friend on the legal aspect. Once I am satisfied with the performance, fit, legality etc I will make a video. So keep an eye out.
in the meantime, have you seen my other LED conversions on rear lights which also improve the appearance of the car by turning the rear lights into 'ice blocks'?

Thanks for the help ! Everything is fine now !
Great to hear!
you can tell what you used to seal the lamps
Hi I have a C1 and have no problems with the boot however my back seat (just behind the driver) is constantly saturated since winter started. Do you have any tips?
This video is very useful. Thank you very much.
You are welcome!
Air vents behind bumper?
Excellent video and very informative well done mate.
hi syd, where did you buy the gasket foam for the rear lights, and what silicone for high level light ?
foam strip: amzn.to/2Gwzk7B
sealer: amzn.to/2X8uDWR
Hope that helps
Thank you so much. You make it look very easy. I'll check all 3 areas, just in case. Thanks again. =)
Hello nice video my sons just bought one but his boot lock doesn't work, key only goes in so far and stops.any ideas ?thanks in advance from Carl.
Here's the sealing strip

Are you in the UK or elsewhere?
@@CycloneCyd Thanks very much indeed for the link to the sealing strip! I am in the South West of the UK.
@@74HC04 ah, that's good as it's a link into Amazon UK!
Excellent advice and very clear 👍
Could you tell me how much you can adjust the lock catch as I have trouble locking the hatch on my 107,thanks in advance.
I haven't measured it, but from memory I'd say there is about 5, maybe 6mm of adjustment available
Cyclone Cyd thanks for that, but the catch just needed wd40,can you believe it🙄?.
@@xl1200r WD is no good as a long term lubricant. Follow it up with some spray grease or at least some penetrating oil.
Cyclone Cyd thanks,I’ll brush some grease on the mechanism, underneath also.
@@xl1200r use white grease if you can, non staining in case you accidentally get any on your clothes when leaning in the boot. You can buy small tubes for bearings from any cycle store or order from here for worldwide delivery bit.ly/white_grease
So I have fitted new seals on the middle brake light and both back lights and put a new seal above the seal on the boot and I still have water coming in 😞 any other ideas? And it only seems to be coming in on the one side of the boot now
Great clear video, thanks!
Thanks for watching!
Nice one, great video. All your videos are really helpful and relevant!
Why, thank you very much. Appreciated.
Nice video i had water leaks from both tail lights, the top middle stop light.
My hatch seal seems fine, i cleaned it up. But i still have water dripping down from / around the closing mechanism.
Garage wants to charge me 60 € only to find the leaks.
Good DIY video.
Hi Tif, thanks for watching and interacting. By closing mechanism, do you mean the latch that holds the glass hatch shut? If yes, have you tried tightening the hatch down by adjusting the latch like I show? Such a shame you can't post photos with comments! It'd be so helpful
Yeah it s coming form the Rear right Vent and araound the latch. I only need to remove the rear bump to fix the rear vent's seal. Garage asks for 100€.
No wonder the guy i bought this car from sold it to me dunring spring. No rain no problem.

@@Tif_Oz right oh, got ya! I hadn't realised they were a common source of leaks as well. Are you gonna DIY?
if i can borrow some tools yeah i ll do it myself. Shouldn t be that hard to remove a bumper.
@@Tif_Oz Most are a doddle, but I haven't tried the C1 bumper yet.
