Rufus- your silky smooth voice dives deep into places in my soul which no other artist has reached. Thank you for sharing your gift and echoing the joy and pain of life that feels like a comfy blanket of pleasure and regret.
One of the best documentaries I've seen in forever. I've been following him off and on since the first album. I feel like I can appreciate him more now that I'm older. He is a truly amazing talent.
From where I was sitting in the audiance at your mothers concerts many years ago, I just assumed as a original artist she went to the beat of her own drum in spite of the music industy . She did not comform to the trends, she had her own sound .Your mum was a turly unique artist, there was no one out there like her , she was unique a true original as you are Rufus .Some people are just born more creative and you Rufus take it to a whole new leave with your song writting and then that voice .your voice takes the listener away .
Hey Rufus, of course your fans stand by you whatever you do. Thank you for all your songs during lockdown and for this documentary, can't wait to hear the new record in full and to see you live in London soon! Lulu x
It's an exquisite album, for me some of Rufus' finest songs to date. Great decision to bring Blake Mills on board - his album Mutable Set released earlier this year is absolutely terrific.
💙I appreciate Kate MaGarrigle's (and Anna MaGaarrigle's) contribution to the "Music Seen" in New York in the 1960s &1970s. And, I appreciate hearing Kate's point of view and sympathize with the position she was in. I love the sisters collaborations with Linda Ronstadt esp!💙
I’m a singer/songwriter from southeast US, Nashville. My peers, friends do well writing country hits. I am in the same class as these guys from my town Jackson, TN but country music has just never come to me so easy, the songs and the business. I met you at the Ryman, acted like a paparazzi and asked who you were wearing. You replied, “stripes as always,” or something to that effect. I have been a fan of yours since I was a singer/dancer at Dollywood , lol, but really. Want and the ones before and after. Songs like “In My Arms,” “Grey Gardens,” “Imaginary Love,” “Slideshow,” etc. have really gotten in my soul throughout the years. Thank you for your music and charm. Greetings from TN. P.S. I quite enjoy your sis, Martha’s music too. You both have very unique and wonderful voices.
I've heard your name but never in a conversation in order to learn more about you. Just a brief note in my brain that I've carried for decades. Until today. I was driving and heard your new song "Unfollow the Rules" on "Live From Here" with Chris Thile. Just wanted to say thank you for your sharing your music with all of us. I'm joining your millions of fans. Look forward to receiving your new album in July.
W❤W Rufus what a gift!!! thank you sooo much for this FABULOUS doc!!! It is a real pleasure to know the creation process and the inspiration and greatness of your new songs!! and hearing the MARVELOUS sneak peeks of Unfollow The Rules, Only That People.., This One's For The Ladies.., Early Morning.., Hatred.. also adore you practising amazingly Friendship on the piano 🎹🎼 👏👏🥰 I think I've seen it so far more than five times!! Sending L❤VE from your ardent fan from Madrid💕💞
I love that you mentioned Brian Wilson! I'm obsessed..... 😂 There are so many wonderful songs on your album! Thank you for sharing your incredible art with the world. ❤️ I'm a huge fan.
"OUT OF THE GAME" (the album), is everything! Seven years later, and the video from PBS's "Live From The Artist's Den" is still heaven on earth!!! 🌸🏵🌸Thank-you Rufus!🌸🏵🌸
First time I ever heard Rufus was when he performed a concert with Sean Lennon. I fell in love with his voice and talent then and grabbed a bunch of his music. He's sounding even more polished today.
The quality of musicianship on this album sounds far superior to anything I have heard in the last several years .I’m really looking to having this on Vinyl , putting on my headphones and immersing myself . As a 40+ year old too it feels like a journey of the soul and to future days/years ahead . 👍😊
Merci pour ce montage de la préparation de ce disque. Tant d’honnêteté artistique, d’amour aussi. De poésie. Merci d’être dans nos vies Rufus. Ma vie est plus belle de ta présence...
I have seen the documentary several times, because it has so much visual, auditory information, content of all kinds, so many details that remain in the shade, we get the feeling that it will never be completely seen, as an endless mystery. And certainly it is so, for what is said and for what it isn't, but it’s guessed or imagined (it is so with any great work, I think, it's worth for what it is and for what makes us be and want to be. Somehow, makes us part of a creation). The documentary is a turbulent journey through the paths of many emotions, it’s a vibrant and fascinating demonstration of the possibilities that open up when human beings surrender themselves without defense to something that they know can be greater than themselves but, therefore, will be even more of themselves because it will return in a more universal form. It’s such a special and pure joy and there's nothing more deeply intimate and personal than what is truly universal. Unfollow The Rules only can be a giant work ❤️🌟 PS: knowing more about Blake Mills’s role was particularly interesting, I was very curious about it since the release of Trouble in Paradise, that guitar in the chorus fascinated me since the first listening 💗
Loving hearing from all the makers and contributors of this amazing work I cannot wait to hear! Also wondering what top handful of Joni tunes Rufus loves most and if they are similar or differ from Jorn's favorite Joni tunes. Thank you for all the painstaking work and for sharing your creative path with us.
His voice and music are just stunning!!! I'm looking forward to hear the new songs. And this is a great video. I love to see a part of the job in the studio and hearing the artist talking about the meaning of the songs and so on.
I was worried that I might have had the best of this album in it's first 5 singles, but this clearly shows there's a great deal more to absorb in the remaining tracks, as taken from only a few previews of additional songs here. It all sounds amazing so far, a combination of singles and snippets. I'm looking forward to that day where I can sit and soak it all up in one sitting, in addition to many more, as based on what I've heard so far!
This album is magical, comforting, and spookily timely. Morning Madness is my covid therapy. Love his stories, and the Joni Mitchell one is so beautiful and insightful. Rufus had such an authentic closeness and understanding of his momma. This album is a classic waiting to be unraveled.
Hello Rufus, I'm really excited about this new record. Can't wait for the pre-order to arrive! I first began listening to your music about a year ago. I happen to have discovered you around the time my father was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Between the time he was diagnosed and the time he passed away (two very short months apart), I think I must have watched your in-studio performance of "Poses" every night before I went to bed. While the subject matter didn't necessarily coincide directly with what I was going through, the beauty and vulnerability on display in your performance struck an emotional chord within me. Your soaring vocal and beautiful piano arrangement seemed akin to a prayer, and in the emotional state I was in during this difficult time, spoke to me as someone who was feeling vulnerable but was looking for strength and comfort. Over the past year, there have been multiple deaths in my family, personal struggles with anxiety, and I'm currently job hunting as the result of a layoff when the company I worked for for eight years decided to re-structure. Throughout these tough times, I've been ravenously consuming your discography. The range and variety of your musical output is impressive, and I can pop one of your albums on whatever mood I find myself in, whether that be confident, melancholy, or anything else on the spectrum of human emotion. Though I've only been a fan for a short while, your records hold a prominent place in both my record collection and my heart. Not sure if you read these UA-cam comments, but in the event you do, I'd like to thank you for sharing your music and baring your soul. I think there's a beauty and honesty to what you do that is inspiring, cathartic, and reaches the the hearts of people from many different backgrounds. Hoping to see you in a live context the next time you play Toronto. All the best, Alex
Having heard a few singles from this new album, I can't wait to get my hands on the CD come July. I love the songs and the sounds of them. P.S. Will there be illustrations for the CD as well?
Where can I purchase FLAC audio files? I would love to listen to your music at the highest quality. It's incredibly poetic. I just want to listen at the highest quality, I have the equipment for it.
"Folktocracy"? Who knew? But I suppose it's natural for some people to want to define, sometimes strictly, genres of music. Some artists are just not going to be constrained by by artificial lines and we're all the richer for it. Trump does inspire a lot of emotion but paying "any cost" is a bit dramatic. It may be boring but the cost will be simply be a large turnout of voters. The GoP and their allies know that, and take countermeasure to suppress voting. Now they are calling into question the legitimacy of mail-in ballots (even though their demographic is more likely to vote that way - even before the pandemic) so they can save face if Trump is one-termed. Democrats may have picked another uninspiring candidate, but they can still win if they can learn how not to take votes for granted in the purple states and not even bother to lie to the people in those states about how much difference a party change will make in their economic prospects. 😅 Maybe without the distraction of Trump, who is a symptom of larger problem, people can focus on the real work that needs to be done to build a sustainable model for the future.
Out of the Game is my very favorite album of yours. I also have the Judy Garland album and of course it is beautiful, and you are the only singer that should ever be allowed to sing Hallelujah, but Out of the Game is YOU. I don't understand why you aren't "Adele".... btw: I never liked Joni Mitchell... I though she sounded like she was just rambling on making up stuff on the spot with no real melody.
Been following Rufus music for many years now. A great artist with a great voice with a great name. Brilliant !

I really love out of the game album, now I'm falling for this one, however P.Gabriel said it much much better. ❤️
Tu voz me lleva al paraíso!!!
🎧🎶🎼i love you💖
Love you Rufus :)
remarkable!!!
ace insights into the new album, which sounds incredible, and (for me) far better than Out of the Game. Viva!

How does he have so many celebrity friends?
Did I spot Matt Chamberlain hanging out in the studio playing drums?? 😮🙌🏻
11:38 such a cute moment ;-)
Ok, convinced, gonna buy that record, despite the rather questionable cover ;)
@29mins...more guitar edge...Gamechanger Plasma pedal prehaps?

I know this is a promotion video, but isn't it a bit over the top with the quotes and hyperbolies and all? :O
It's Rufus. It has to be over the top somehow.
