Please include me in any future Rufus Wainwright fan club activity. I believe that Rufus Wainwright is the finest vocalist, male or female, who has ever lived. I've thought this since I saw him in a commercial for the GAP in 1998. I'm a quiet middle-aged married woman who lives in the New York area. I would love to commune with other fans so put me on your mailing-lists, please. Call or text to (908)-656-5635.
There are groups for Rufus fans on Facebook if you are on it. Check out Rufus Wainwright Message Board Group. A lot of information, videos etc. are shared by fans from all over the world.
Saw Rufus sitting at a restaurant cafe last week in LA where I live. I wanted so badly to just stop and say hello and thank him for the amazing music he has put out into the world and to tell him what a big fan I am, but it just seemed like a cliche thing to do so I passed and let him enjoy his time off. I hope he knows that if accolades and respect and absolute pure talent equated to dollars he’d be the wealthiest artist alive.
I lived in Camarillo for 20 years. Hung out in Santa Monica and Malibu a LOT. Worked the Malibu Chili Cook-Off several years. Mostly the best received acknowledgment towards a celebrity, especially in a restaurant, was just eye contact, a nod, and a raised glass.
Rufus is simply amazing. I've been a fan since the late 90s. My daughter & I loved his music & live concerts. We saw him live 3 times at Liberty Hall in Lawrence, Kansas. Yeah, the same Lawrence KS that "doesn't matter at all" in his "You Ain't Big" song on his new album, "Unfollow the Rules". He sure did fool us into thinking we mattered. He played a 45 min solo encore at the first concert. He put all of himself into that performance. He had us as his most devoted fans after that. I saw him outside at a concert in Kansas City in 2006. It was raining, which didn't bother Rufus at all, nor I as the raindrops hid my tears falling throughout each song that my daughter would never hear. She passed away at 28 a year earlier.
It's rare to find a musician who allows the music to define who he is. So he chases the music, never forcing the music but simply trying to be in the right place at the right time, being a vessel for it to come through. Rare.
Rufus not only are you the greatest songwriter and performer who has ever lived ; you are the most amazing person ever to have lived . Big kisses Your old love, William Gamble , Your Art Teacher Sweetheart. ❤ William Gamble
The first song I ever heard by Rufus Wainwright was Going To A Town and I was absolutely entranced and in love with his beautifully smooth voice. He's such a classic.
Highly underated documentary, highly underated artist, highly underated individual, was lucky to escape drugs in the end, love this artist and his originality||||
Rufus story is repeated over & over again. A product of his environment/ upbringing. I'm truly glad he survived. My wife & I have three DEAR gay friends that are like Rufus etc.Its living in this world that is becoming more difficult to cope with every day issues. My friends have a very contrtolled environment. It's essential to thier well being. All three are successful & content with what they have. None of them have a partner etc. Because of thier inability to maintain a long standing relationship. They view my wife & I as dear friends that they can trust. They are very intelligent & have a beautiful intelectual sense of humor. They have a deep love for animals are very gifted in many ways. They truly value our friendships as something permanent. Rufus hopefully will survive by being an great ARTIST. Love to all of you my friends. And always be kind to one another & surround yourselves with GIVERS & NOT TAKERS. Arnold Bourbon Amaral 💙🌏🌍🌎💁👱👨🎼🎻🎹🙏📖
First time hearing of Rufus Wainwright and having the pleasure of listening to and watching him sing during the Leonard Cohen special I’m Your Man. Am definitely a fan!
So he said to his record company "I'm gay and I'm not changing this." Good man :-) He is a strong individual. He fully recognises that you must put your Mental Health ahead of Making Money and being Popular. And this, regardless of your sexuality, race, gender or mental health status. I hope this man continues to be theraputic for me :-)
It always seemed to me that music flows out of him without any barriers. His vocals are sensual like a stream rolling over your bare feet- constant and cool. He opens his mouth and it just comes out free and unfettered. Saw him in the UK in Oxford in a rather broken down 17th century theatre. He was astounding and utterly fabulous.
Saw him live three separate times in my life. Met him and Martha once (I bought her first ep, signed, the cover art had obviously been printed at home). He’s been with me since puberty and his music will always feel a part of me and who I am. I’ll forever be grateful to this man for helping me understand myself more through his work.
LOVE HIM!!!!! Been a fan for years and been wanting to see him live forever! Thanks for making this Doc. Beautiful man, singer & song writer. Finally seeing him next month at the Greek Theater! A check off my bucket list!!!
He is such a unique talent because you can go see him live... and it's just him. Singing and then accompanying himself on piano or guitar. He's brilliant beyond words.
Love and adore you, Rufus.. such a beautiful person.. artist.. .. As a writer myself, I forgot how much you influenced me.. I can't nearly match his angelic voice and range.. but 'rebel prince' directly influenced a song I wrote called, 'in my lap'. stay gold, beautiful child
When I was 4, my mom played the song "my sick mind" by The Roches, and that was my favorite song. Years later, I watched the show Nip/Tuck and I heard Rufus' song Natasha, and I fell in love with it. It took me almost 20 years to discover, one of the sisters in the Roches married to his father. Amazing.
Honest beautiful man everyone who listens to his magical voice gets hooked clean notes incredible range I can't beeathe sometimes it's in my heart just amazing he is truly gorgeous look in his eyes
Hi Rufus. I lived a few years in the U.S. there I met you and loved you. I'm Brazilian, i watched the brief history of your life. I admire you even more. I ask you to take care of yourself and continue to do this job because it marvels people's hearts. I thank God for your life!
God bless this singer the first time I started listening to songs by Rufus wainwright was in meet the robinsons and now he had became my #2 favorite singer songwriters he’s just awesome and I’m glad I bought my first album want one all I can say is god bless this singer
A incredible talent whom I admire deeply. Feel very lucky to be on the planet at the same time as him to witness his brilliance in real time. His music changed the course of my life. ✨
This is all so very inspiring , Martha I think you're fabulous, and I always did. Rufus you still have so much to give , as I wipe the tears from my eyes for the hundredth time from listening to dinner at 8. Please look after yourself and keep it clean man, Your best times are STILL YET TO COME .Its up to you to leave us with good memories instead of sad ones . This means a lot to me . Tom from Selsey. God bless all involved and thanks for uploading this .
Superb! The most talented artist that I know, and as much as it’s his talent, it’s his beautiful and honest personality shining through...and that’s why I love him dearly...I wish I had similar parents growing up...would have made my life So much easier...not that I would have been nearly as talented artist as Rufus the Great...❤️💜❤️
When I was a child, one summer, my mother decided to raise a flock of banty chickens. My brother named the dominant male among them, Rufus. He was colorful-and his feathers were shiny. He dominated the yard that summer. When I hear the name Rufus, I cannot but think of that. When I was in college, once, at the end of a long day of classes, we forced our schoolmate to write down, from memory, the lyrics to "Dead Skunk in the Middle of the Road" so that we could sing it at a party later. It is written and performed by Louden Wainwright III-I would not have written "Dinner at Eight," a brilliant, experiential, ballad: Conciliator that I am, I would have said simply, "I love you."
I Love that song (I'm a Runnin) that Rufus wrote for the movie "Tommy Tricker and the Stamp Traveler" in the 80's....that was the lst song I heard him Sing...he was very young but so upbeat for his age back then...! He was Great!!

I would be very grateful if someone would excerpt just that brief segment of Rufus at about 14 years old singing something from Gilbert & Sullivan's HMS Pinafore. All of the G&S aficionados out there need to see this and would LOVE to see this.
I just don't understand... Why do guys have to proclaim their 'straightness' before then expressing their admiration for Rufus, or other 'out' gay people? It's like when guys, and I've heard this a million times in my life, say things like, "I don't notice things like that", when asked if they ever notice that another guy is cute, handsome, good looking, et cetera. Simply because you notice that someone is beautiful/attractive doesn't mean you want to f**k them; it means you're human.

Yes! WOW, Such "Beautiful, honest human being with a voice never seen or likely to be seen ever again, such a different and unique view and music. just discovered Rufus and fell in love, what a voice, lyrics, music, everything touched me to shiver, to the bone
I feel a bit lucky to have found him late. What an absolutely stunning catalog!
I'm a 64 yr old woman, lover of music and picked this up watching a Sting video. Such a beautiful voice and soul.
Do you remember which video it was?

First time hearing of Rufus Wainwright and having the pleasure of listening to and watching him sing during the Leonard Cohen special I’m Your Man. Am definitely a fan!
I woke up at 3AM today, picked up my iPhone, found this, and watched the whole thing (for about the 6th time.)
Why does this mans voice make me cry? His depth and emotion that resonates through me!
omgosh, exactly how i feel! He is so precious!
I love all the positivity in the comments :'))
His voice is so distinctive. It reminds me of Thom Yorke, but operatic...
Wrong octave, though, largely.
Such a genuine, sweet, ambitious, genius. I don't know how much money Rufus has, but he deserves way more.
Rufus! Amazing singer, poet, writer...genius! Love is sensitivity and honesty.
So he said to his record company "I'm gay and I'm not changing this." Good man :-)

A truly unique genius.Prolific and constantly composing fresh ideas.
his voice is beautifully unique, it brings the same feeling at each listen
"....when there's no reason for my mind to be still. Oh how I feel like a beautiful child again." My favorite lyrics.
Rufus, your music lights up my life. Thank you for being out there.
When you see his musical heritage it was inevitable that he would have so much talent!
I love Rufus and adore him since his first album. What a honor that he used to live and fall in love in my country in Germany.
I was lucky enough to see him live... still one of my favourites of all time
He is such a unique talent because you can go see him live... and it's just him. Singing and then accompanying himself on piano or guitar. He's brilliant beyond words.

I absolutely love Schubert Lieder, consequently I am overwhelmed by Rufus Wainwright’s work -
How can I like this 1 000 000 times ?
Good lord he and his music are so beautiful. He’s been a constant presence in my life… sings I always return to.
I have only recently come heard his music and I have so much to learn , but this documentary was a beautiful portrait of the artist and the man

Blues. From the center of his universe. Great.⭕️
Amazing talented artist in the true sense a lovely voice.
I remember seeing this documentary on UK TV and was immediately hooked!
Thanks for posting. Love his artistry and deep storytelling roots... so sad for their family to see LC go to Valhalla.
Thanks. Always a joy to revisit.
Thank you so much for posting !!!!

Speaks to anyone with passion to create, survive night journeys, and, to use cliche, finding light at end of tunnel. He is, unusually brazen, artist.
Completely underrated! What ever happened to him. He was brilliant.
He's still around. Out of the game was a great album
What's your definition of underrated? Everyone artist in their right mind appreciates Rufus Wainwright
Wow. So amazing. I highly enjoyed and appreciate this
An angel on earth.
wow...never heard of this guy...amazing
Want one and want two ❤️
I want to be a Rufus Wainwright Back-up singer!!!!!!!!!

Masculinity for most males is a very rigid and therefore a brittle thing. It is disingenuous. Overcompensating and defensive reactions are clear evidence of that. Sexual insecurity causes males to be super vigilant about not doing anything that could be perceived of as feminine, which is sadly both ridiculous and a self-created trap.

THANK YOU FOR POSTING Xxxxxxxxxx LOVE
When he sings as a young guy (12:00) he sounds less nazal and "closed" than today, so actually I like his voice more as he had it in the past
That’s what talent looks like. ❤️
LOVE him. LOVE his Art
je l aime beaucoup! et cette chanson...
So strange Leonard Cohen wasn't mentioned.
OMG, the dude is so talented. You can tell Thom Yorke is heavily influenced by him, especially the slightly operatic vocal style.
WOW, Such "Beautiful, honest human being with a voice never seen or likely to be seen ever again, such a different and unique view and music. Great artist! Amazing man Rufus

15:08 Jane Adams (Rufus "friend"), I remember her as Niles Crane's second wife ( Surgeon Dr. Mel Karnofsky).
I also remember Jane Adams as the star of the 1998 film "Happiness," with a spectacular opening scene involving her and Jon Lovitz.
@@kateandphoebe Little children (2006) by Todd Field
I adore this boy and man
Anyone who loves the music of Rufus Wainwright should also love the music of Brian Wilson, Laura Nyro, Todd Rundgren, Judee Sill and - a little nearer to our own time - Neil Hannon and Rumer.
Harry Nilsson too
Saw a live performance on the Butler University TV network when I was in high school in the 90's and the rest is history. I was just a girl then lol
