- Join us for a behind the scenes look at our USA Road Trip, taking place over on the @ThemeParkWorldwide UA-cam channel! In the 5th and final travel vlog from our trip, we continue to show you our journeys in-between the theme parks, along with our accommodation. In this vlog we also show you what happened when we brokedown in our car, drive through a HUGE storm and make our way to New York City via public transportation. We also take you for a tour of our hotel in New York, located close to Times Square.

Just so you guys know, usually when fire trucks/police are all up on the overpasses like that, they’re usually watching a funeral procession for a fallen brother. It’s a sign of respect!
Correct you are. In this case, it was a procession for a fallen firefighter who just died in a house fire in southern Maryland. His body was being transported from southern Maryland to Baltimore. Fun fact for Shawn - firefighters in the US are barred from striking as they're deemed to provide an essential public service. Same with police.
When my father ( a retired firefighter in the UK) died, the funeral cortage passed his old fire station. Engines and firefighters had formed a guard of honour on the forecourt, then a fire engine escorted his hearse to the crematorium. Firefighters all over the world look after their fallen, wether its in active service or post retirement

It's called the Sandbrook ADVENTURES for a reason!!! Fair play to both of you...crazy 1 or 2 day period. You both handled it so well and managed to adapt and stay safe.
It was a stressful day, however we got through it!
The bridges are twinned becasue one side was built first, and then when it got too busy, they added a second span to ease traffic. The second bridges were built about twenty years after their original spans were built.
That definitely makes sense!

Such dedication to your channels and viewers, many others would have given up filming when things turned bad but instead you showed what a great partnership you have sharing the pain and making the best of what you had left of the day. Awesome

You handled that storm perfectly Shawn. So long as its not a tornado warning youre usually better off just taking it slow and heading on to your destination. We get a lot of storms like that in this part of the country. Its never fun driving through one....

LOL! The giant apple was a peach, widely grown in the Carolinas and Georgia. Far to hot and humid for apples. Apples grow in Washington State, Oregon, California, mostly and some in New York, Vermont, Connecticut, and Maine
damn that car breakdown was more wild ride than some of the coasters you have been on, Budget are a joke! Glad you guys got it sorted in the end!
What an epic and chaotic vlog to finish out the American road trip series. The car troubles sucked but it sure made it very entertaining for us! Also glad y'all got to experience the Chesapeake Bay Bridge, one of the most impressive structures in the country. And then you stayed here in Delaware of all places, at a hotel about 10 mins from my house 😂 love it! So happy this trip was an overall massive success. Kudos to you both

That storm looked scary! I was at Disney world Florida last summer and our day at magic kingdom was cut short by a huge storm. We were queueing for the ferry in torrential rain and lightning. I know it happens a lot there but it did seem sketchy being on the top story of a boat in the middle of a lake during a massive lightning storm.
We have used Enterprise rental car for my business for years. They have always been very professional with us. Budget rental car should have brought you a new car when they came to get the broken one..
Thats the Bay Bridge over the Chesapeake Bay (The one just past Annapolis, MD). The two spans were not built at the same time. The side you were on (two lanes) is older. The other bridge heading west was built years later to accomodate more traffic. Rt. 50 in that section is a pretty new highway compared to others in the area. And the blue SUV is a Buick.

That looked very stressful for both of you on your last days on this road trip. Glad you are OK. On a side note, you mentioned that you couldn't find dippin dots in the UK. In Canada we have Mini Melts which are also sold in the UK and are a comparable product. 😊
That's so weird. I was just at that Davis Travel Center in my truck a couple days ago with the big rig! I absolutely love watching your adventure vlogs. It's always a pleasure hearing the good advice Shawn has to offer. Listen to the guy people. He knows his stuff! Safe travels!

I think that was a peach water tower, not an apple. Peaches are huge in the south- especially Georgia and North and South Carolina.
It is definitely a peach. It also resembles a butt.

The same thing happened to my rental car a week ago in California. The car I rented from Avis, the parent company of budget, had an engine failure in the middle of the interstate and I was barely able to pull out of traffic. It was a very scary situation. Like your experience, customer service was awful and they did not seem sympathetic whatsoever to my situation. Fortunately, like you all, I’m safe but I will certainly not be renting from Avis or Budget again.

Hertz and now Budget- both have been dropping the ball lately. Hertz was even on the news for an incident in New Orleans. Sorry about that. They need to get themselves together! Can't wait for the NYC vlog!

The firemen and others gathered on bridges as you came thru the DC area was most likely not a strike, but, a tribute to a fallen firefighter whose funeral procession was about to pass.

Lightning likely hit a power pole or metal object out there. Storms are stronger up north because of mountains focusing the storms right there it rains out and has a rain shadow on the other side. It’s an odd phenomenon that only happens with large mountains like the US ones. Likely flooded a number of valleys too.
Driving at night during a thunder storm is the most scary ! You did a great job getting to the hotel safely . Can't wait to see your New York vlog :) I 've been to Boston on business but never New York city. How exciting staying at time square hotel . :) I guess that's why they called it 'budget ' lol .

I'm glad you guys made it safe to that storm. I know you're going through a lot of trials with that car. Next time you rent a car, try enterprise. They're usually a lot better.
Another entertaining travel vlog and good to see that you were both able to handle what was a bad situation. Unfortunately this is what can happen when you travel, especially the distances and for the length of time you both have. (I speak from experience). But you handled it well, adapted and got on with it, nice to see. The communication from Budget was very subpar, they should have arranged to bring you a replacement vehicle at the same time as collecting the broken down vehicle. But as you said, you were safe at all times, ‘safety is paramount’ lol 😅

Hey you guys did a great job overall traveling for so long in a foreign country and dealing eith the car issue!!
You might want to try sticking with one hitel chain. For example I use Hilton and you make an account on line and check in in the app and use your phone as the room key. That way you can skip the desk. It might be a little more expensive but you generally get a free hot breakfast and with the points you earn will get free nights every so often.
Definitely need to check into your phone carriers traveling plan.
And i say this with love, as a parent and teacher........you got step out ifnyour comfort zone and eat something other than fast food. Local dishes are the vest oart if traveling. Fast food is not local its generic.
Sorry to hear you had that stress with the car. Imagine the company trying to charge you for the tow!!! Wow! 😮😮

I understand breakdowns happen and things can go wrong but it's how companies deal with these issues that can make the difference and unfortunately Budget have shown themselves up a bit here. It sucks you have to cut your day short. No one should have to wait more than a couple of hours let alone all day like that.

Great adventure and road trip TPW crew. The break down was such an inconvenience and nuisance but cars do break down. The storm could have been so much worse especially if it had been a tornado warning. Nice hotel vlogs too.

Ahhh I am really sad the trip is coming to an end, it’s been epic tagging along with you.
I rent cars on a weekly basis in the states for work and now I know to never try budget. I had one car smoke up on me and I rode with the tow truck to the closest rent a car place to pickup a new car but what you went through is terrible!
Two bridges - one is older and needed a capacity increase. To add 2 lanes to the existing bridge would force it's closure while the work took place. Build a second bridge and when it is done split the traffic and double capacity - WITH NO DOWN TIME.
That makes sense!

Budget is definitely the worst. Here in Orlando they are known for overbooking car hires and then people show up and they don't have cars. I also see them with a 2hr line to pick up cars to. It's more expensive but I always go with Hertz, and if you want some fun they have Mustangs that aren't available to public yet. Also for the storm, that happens here in Florida every week in the summer ;) Just saw one of them today!
Ugh i never go for budget when i am in america..I am very happy with Alamo..When i was in america last year i was so scared that the car would break down..we were there for 6 weeks..we had a good car..thank goodness.

If you're wondering about those huge Bridges they were built in separate years the one you Crossed was built in. 1954 and the opposite bridge was built in 1973
Actually penn station had massive work done to it. Now it’s moinahane train station. A new wing was built completely underground. And you would take the air train from jersey into nyc. Not the subway.

I reckon they originally built one bridge for both sides of traffic but then it got too busy so they built a second to split the carridgeways!

Next time, it might be a good idea to just send out a message to all your followers. I drove 85 to Busch gardens on Sunday and it's likely that I unknowingly passed you guys on the side of the road. I would've definitely turned around and got you to the park had I known about it!

Wow that was a crazy few days. I guess it shows though that things can happen on a trip and how you deal with it and adjust are important. I can see now why Charlotte was so unexcited and tired looking in the park right after the car break down.

Just did a trip like your to Virginia for Busch gardens and king dominion . Our flight from nyc Jfk was cancel 3 times . Had to stay over 1 night at jfk for having an other plane the next day . Everything was cancel to Norfolk. The next day every flight was overbooked and we end up to making jfk Detroit , change at Detroit for Richmond and drive to the park . All flights was cancel du to bad storm during memorial week end . So stressful and we arrived at the park around noon .

So I think the story is that bridge used to be one bring with traffic going both ways originally and then they added the second bridge so they could have more traffic going both ways on separate bridges.
