    Long time viewer first time commenting, why wouldn’t you devise a shed system for the totes? I believe it would cut down on your handling, which is always a good thing. This is what I am striving for in my small wood yard. I use about five face cords season in Tennessee. Love your content and your delivery.

    • @Back40Firewood
      @Back40Firewood  9 місяців тому

      I thought about getting more totes, but that's where the issue would come in is that I'd need a LOT of them...lol...and then they would sit for a few years before I get to them. I think with the few I have to utilize them for moving the wood around works out better. At least until I can find a good deal on a whole bunch...haha.

    Definitely agree with you. Been searching high and low to find more ideas for wood shed ideas. Have currently 16x16 7ft high of wood. It's full already and been just burning what's laying outside. Been looking to utilize large shipping pallets as well. As much coverage as cheap as possible. Thanks for the content

    • @Back40Firewood
      @Back40Firewood  9 місяців тому

      I think the best approach is to just get the top covered so the rain, snow, and leaves are kept off the stacks. Having the open sides really helps with wind and airflow to season the wood.

  • @DanielAtkinsFirewood
    @DanielAtkinsFirewood 9 місяців тому

    Good idea. Wood will still season and look great for later 😉👍

    Agree with recycling, like the way you have your pallet off the ground, I don’t sell wood but prefer the clean look for our stove vs the weathered look.

    I’m looking into buying scaffolding to hold about 10 cords, my hobby limit. There are many scaffolding companies here and they sell the retired material pretty cheap. 👍

      I saw a bunch of that on an online auction and had the same idea....how could I turn that into firewood storage. Think it'd work great!

    hi there if i heard you correct you plan to make more than one of those new style woos sheds , kind of an idea that may work for you that i did , build them just the right distance apart so you can put boards or beams between them and have a 3 rd free spot in between the 2 , i can make a short if you are interested in what i did to help you understand , or call if your phone is working , you should also make one with sleeping quarters for when Amanda throws out into the dog house , oh buy the way i can help you with your phone problem , great show good idea best to all john

    It's an aesthetics game plain and simple. If I put the would up that I split or bought at a brother in law price I wouldn't care. But if I pay a premium price for the area I live I want it aesthetically pleasing.

    I do think that the wood that is left in the rain over several years will end up losing some BTUs if left uncovered, but after a couple of years.

    • @Back40Firewood
      @Back40Firewood  9 місяців тому +1

      Yep eventually it will I think....plus will just increase the potential of rot.

    I got to get me a UA-cam Chanel. I am working way to hard for way to little . I just got to learn it all and get to it . I pile most of my wood but I do like your little sheds .

    • @Back40Firewood
      @Back40Firewood  9 місяців тому

      Not only do the shelters keep the rain off, but the leaves and pine needles when they drop can really make a mess of a stack of wood.

    Way to recycle wood, Dan! As a woodworker, I always say there is no scrap wood, just wood that hasn't been used yet.

      Yep, that's how I look at things as well....if I don't need to cut a 2x4 down I don't....otherwise I just end up with a cut off piece that I need to save and find a use for somewhere...lol

    I always laugh because the darker/grey wood always sells slower. some people are very picky. I was hauling a lot of 2-3 year old poplar logs and cutting splitting and letting it sit for 3 weeks than selling since it was 15-17%. It would sell faster than oak and ash I had for sale that was darker/grey

    • @Back40Firewood
      @Back40Firewood  9 місяців тому

      Yep it's crazy how what is actual signs of wood being seasoned, the grayish sun dried wood, is often confused with the wood being 'old' or rotten.

    One off firewood 🪵 is wash out and sun burn . The money 💴 your charging for your firewood 🪵 should look 👀 like gold . I see you don’t use a square or level for building wood shed . ALL THE BEST IN THE 2024 .

    • @Back40Firewood
      @Back40Firewood  9 місяців тому

    Lots of trees down from summer storms, easy access for the utube channel folks, but when they buy loads of logs and have to make payments on the highest dallor wood spitters, they will be out of business and chasing other fad Lolo
