Shame the roof felt didn’t come up trumps, but it’s nearly there and special guest Mickie was a treat. You can see him trying to get this camera business worked out. He looks like he’s finding his feet and settling in nicely. Look forward to the next one. Nice one Keith👍🏼

we installed a wood stove last year and it was a godsend. I'm about to make my 3rd woodstore as I like collecting as much free wood as possible. just reminding myself with your project as I used it while making my first, thanks for the project Keith.

Hand saw for the notch on the shelf, more "normal" householder tool than a chisel. Great to see you trying and acknowledging the effort of reduced tool use. Easy to forget when you have what you need. Using scraps/salvaged is always fun and works well with building techniques for creative working and problem solving.

From someone who is an upcoming woodworker and runs a stove there's nothing better than having a log burner. I also mill my own hardwood and usually the first and last cuts are wood for the stove aswell. Great log store although just bare in mind the weight u may need take the shelf out. I have 3 bunkers go through about 8 ton a year. Great video again 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿👍

This is what I enjoy about your channel. You use whatever you have at to your disposal. I too, am like that. I use what I've got, and if I run out of material, I'll use something else. These are skills you develop as you find ways to improvise and problem solve in situations where you don't necessarily need to spend cash to build what you want. Just use what's around you.

Great video, as always Keith. It's one thing to make a thing, another to create a video of your doing it at the same time. I put together a log store myself last year, and I guess it was with limited tools as all I needed was a chop saw, driver, drill, tape measure, square and a few clamps. I guess time will tell If it's still standing in a few years time as I didn't see the need to felt the roof, I used pressure treated fence lats instead.

Hahaha, I think you made a great job. Building with what you have and making up the design as it goes is a liberating(yet restricted) process. One have to be pragmatic and always keep the goal and main purpose in mind. My grandfather was a cabinetmaker and a maker of fine furniture but he was very pragmatic when it came to what we in these days would call "shop projects". "It's not a violin case" was his saying.

Only after viewing this video a number of times, did I realize how extremely close your fingers were to the circular saw blade while cutting the angled roof supports. PLEASE keep your hands safely away from that blade!
Really like your videos, including this one. Thank-you!

  • @David_K_Dickson
    @David_K_Dickson Рік тому

Starting at 10:05 where you cut the batons into trim pieces to cover the end grain, at 10:10 it looks as though the side boards finish flush with the front frame, Then, at 10:15, the baton is nailed to the end of the side boards and at 10:19 you use your thumb to check that the trim is flush with the front frame.
I take it that you had to trim the side panels before fitting the baton board, but the screws in the side panels do not appear to have moved.
I am not trying to be hyper-critical. I want to build a log store based on yours, so I want to understand the small details as well as the big picture.
I love your channel and love what you do. Keep up the good work.

I'm luck, I live on a large timbered block, and can cut down a tree a year to feed my fire. An old stable block makes a perfect storage for both my fire wood and salvaged wood. Love the video and it has given me food for thought having recently built my own log store from one pallet.
Initial thoughts - you have really over engineered this and the roof overhang doesn't come far enough out to prevent water ingress (IMHO). Also, the felt looks fine to me - maybe a few touch ups here and there - but I'd rather that than buying new. I went for a shingle style roof using featherboard left over from a fence and that, so far has held up against the Welsh rain!

Blimey Keith, that is one substantial log store, when you climbed in to it so that you could move it it looked like a three man bunk bed ! 😉😂
Good use for a load of Mainly shorter off cuts !
Can I ask, is there a reason why you have the braces at the front as opposed to the back of the store as they will slightly restrict access ?
That felt looks ok from here, as long as there's no tears, it's good enough for a logstore for a good few years and as it will need no joins you can always go over it with more felt or shingles if it does start to deteriorate later !
    Cheers, AndyC

Woah, have I missed a video? When did Micky turn up. Nice way to use up 'old' wood just a pity about the felt. You could call this the "Almost" video. Almost only old wood, almost just a few tools, almost in a day! 🤣🤣 Cheers.

Mickie has been with us a month or two now. He's a 7 year old ex street cat from a rescue centre

I’m a big fan of banana wood with its oh-so-f’ing-helpful twists and bows. I get mine at Jewsons but I’m sure it’s available at other suppliers too. Nice build though 👍🏻

Hi Keith, I've been following your channel for a long time and love the videos you put out. Wondered if you could recommend a table saw for around £500-£600 budget? I've heard you talk about the Dewalt range before but wondered if you have any other suggestions or a particular model that you think is especially good value? Thanks for the content 🙂

I believe the DeWalt is on sale at the moment in Screwfix. The Milwaukee is every bit as good in my opinion. I've not tried any others though

Sadly, Dylan's time has ended. Keith posted a beautiful tribute video on his other channel, which I'll try to link here if it lets me. Otherwise look in the description of his video Vlog 17. ua-cam.com/video/wUdvMR0wbcQ/v-deo.html

Silly question Keith, but what is that large rusted I-Beam sticking out of the side of your home? Do you have any plans for that, or its something you will just live with? Thanks.

It was in the workshop when I moved in left by the previous occupants, I've never really know what to do with it... I'm sure it will be in a project one day! 👍
