I worked in the fragrance industry and most of these are actually best sellers! Maybe people voted for their favourites by accident because this doesn't seem correct based on my knowledge of what the ladies are buying...
I think most hated perfumes are usually the ones that are most popular. Of course if you have something popular it will trigger hate as well. There are many less popular perfumes people just dont know about and many people dont like.
Me too, I get also compliments when I wear this one. But I think most ladies forget they should choose perfume based on their skin tone and season and personality.
I love Si! I'm shocked it made a bad list. I've worn this & received many compliments. Perfumes are deeply personal & blend with your own chemistry, so this video is not the most accurate, just opinion based.
My beautiful mother bought me Chanel no. 5 every Christmas when I was between the ages of 8 and up. She wore the powder her whole life. She died in June 2023 at 98. I powdered her before they took her from the house. Do I love it no, but I love the memories and I still wear it once in awhile.
@@lindarosealot my husband and my children buy channel # 5 whenever they suspect I am close to running out. My Grandmother wore it, my mother and my older sisters wore it. My mother died when I was 10 so it was the most wonderful memory I had of her. My children love it because “it smells like mom.” It’s their favorite memory as well. If I wear something else they don’t approve. That’s so crazy but I knew this one would be on the list due to so many people that wear it.
I don’t agree with this list at all 😅 I feel like it’s more like “most mainstream perfumes” rather than “most hated”. Most of these are very liked perfumes. Definitely not the worst smelling perfumes in my opinion….
Perfume preference is very personal - and each person's chemistry changes it, so what you love on someone else may smell awful on you. I desperately wish I could find my favorite OLD scents ( BEFORE they were secretly "updated")
Fragrance is no longer manufactured using natural components - the bulk of fragrances are wholly synthetic produced by a group called International Flavours and & Fragrances. (They produce all the smells one associates with cleaning products the fragrance in cosmetics, hygiene & personal care products and flavourings used in food manufacturing). They produce the so called raw materials that locations like Grasse in the south of France use to formulate the house brand perfume releases. A team of 'noses' as they are called will create the fragrance commissioned by a luxury brand. Because of cost there are a great deal of substitutions in the formulations therefore old favourites will inevitably change due to cost and focus on profit margin. More often than not the bottle is more expensive than the fragrance.
True! I got my ovaries removed because of breastcancer and being through with menopause changed everything. Right now I'm trying to find new perfumes that match my new chemistry and personal preferences 😅
Locating old formulas will be difficult and also because time is never kind to natural ingredients. Instead seek out new experiences - recently I sampled a range from Salvatore Ferragamo called Storie de SETA of which there are 4 or 5 themes only 2 had any interest for me - on the skin it's quite light and soothing in its notes profile - worth testing on the skin. Try them on different days but don't commit to buy until the right assembly of notes are there for you.
Hi Anna, thanks for your review. Just wanted to say that I noticed you often used phrases like 'eww this smells like an old lady.' which implies that to smell like an old lady is a bad thing - that an old lady might smell like lavender, old books and boiled eggs or something). Anyway, maybe the time has come to ditch that line. I'm an 'old lady' and I do not smell like cheese - I'm ekeing out my last few precious drops of Tiempe Passate (Antonia's Flowers), bought for about AU$200 or 300 when it first came out in the 90s!
You’re correct. She is absolutely lacking vocabulary. She has a very immature and unsophisticated way of describing things. It’s a bit like listening to a bratty 13 year old give a fragrance review
As a fragrance collector with over 350 perfumes, I must say… These are all best sellers. This makes no sense! I don’t wear any of these anymore, but I will say that billions upon billions of women do and they all sell very well continuously.
@@sakuraflower7245 I don't think they go off. I still have a bottle of Miss Dior that I got for a 21st gift (I'm 59 now). I barely even wore it so the bottle is virtually full but I kept it for sentimental reasons. It is still in its box and is a gorgeous little frosted glass bottle imprinted with the Dior houndstooth design. I was going through my perfumes the other day, chucking some out and I sprayed some of this on. I think it still smells very pretty.
That's funny about Alien. Every time I've ever worn it, I get compliments & asked, "Wow, I love that. What it is it?" Maybe it has to do with how it smells on each person.
That perfume must be very special to you. My first and only bottle of Poison was given to me by my father, too. I still have about half a bottle left. I'm sorry for your loss and send you best wishes.
@@devonbradley4372 Thanks so much, it's easier to type it, than to realise it. My daughter Hannah was 27, decided this world wasn't for her anymore. My Dad and herself were two sides of the same coin, so I know they're together again, and with all of our other special people on the other side x x x 💔💖
I'm shocked that Carolina Herrera, Armani Si & Alien made it to the most hated list. Most of the UA-camrs recommend these perfumes. Now we need a video on 10 most loved perfumes.
I wore Poison when it first launched. I loved it and it was definitely different, not old lady at all. The top note was fruity, almost like grapes. The current versions are nothing like the original.
Oh, were you the person sitting next to me in the theater as I watched "A Doll's House?" Poison was definitely in the air, and I had to endure it for as long as the play lasted. I do not like that scent at all, especially when someone marinates in it.
Im all about Mugler fragrances, and, being 42, i have only just smelled and owned them now. Im obsessed with Alien. Like i mean, its an addictive fragrance for me, one i know i will never be able to live without. I dont care if it has a "90s" vibe, this is one that will be a classic. It soooo beautiful, and a huge compliment getter. Love Alien!
I worked for Hermès perfumes and I developped a great taste and love for this beautiful world and for the history of perfumerie. I'm now a collector and I love the rarest perfumes from any olfactive family. Hermès, Guerlain, Sisley and Armani Privé are great houses to start from. I'm kind of sad to see Chanel n°5 was number 1. As someone who has spray all types of perfumes on any person possible, it really depends on the skin. When I spray it on me no 5 has very strong aldehydes, but after a couple of hours, it smells like fresh roses and ppl compliment on me a lot. And it lasts 24 hours so it's worth every penny. Each skin marries each own perfume 🥰, when you love a perfume, the perfume loves you back. And it's a beautiful world to explore if you have an open mind and you let yourself be surprised.
@akiyoshidai1231: that sounds like a very French attitude towards perfume that you picked up whilst at Hermès, “each skin marries each own perfume…”. Well said.
As a perfume collector, I cannot understand why some people use the word "hate" so lightly in regards to a perfume, for me it is an experience on many levels, not just olfactory, besides I have tried perfumes that matter less to me than others but also I have fragrances that fascinate me, but no fragrances I "hate".
@@hiannahgus574 My childhood friend has this type of skin in which every parfum smells so much better than on my own skin, and it’s been like that since we were teenagers and now we are middle aged women - I’m so “jealous” haha 😄
A lot of these are faves of mine. Gorgeous scents. I don’t care what others say because my friends and husband always compliments my perfumes and many I use are what those are.
I think when a perfume is really popular it can get a disproportionate amount of hate. Chanel #5 is an all time classic for a reason and BR540 might be the most cloned and copied scent DNA at this moment. So while people gonna hate, I’d be willing to be the number of people who love those greatly outnumber the hate.
I LOVE Baccarat Rouge! So many of these are best sellers, so I think what people don't like is the fact that they are over hyped and so many people wear them.
@averageextraordinarywoman.....me too. I wear it but I wear the one in the deep red Baccarat bottle. I am stopped every time I wear it. Men and women tell me it smells wonderful and ask for the brand. I wear about 5 different perfumes. I am also a fan of Bond 9. I am not a fan of Angel or Chanel No5. They both make me nauseous. Angel smells like something a teenager would wear, not a sophisticated lady. However, I do believe one perfume can smell completely different on another person.
@@Elizabeth-dw6lc I wear the red bottle Baccarat Rouge as well. As well as the Orientica dupe of it. I know what you mean about how perfumes smell different on different people.
Indeed! Edit: I was so excited replying I didn't realise your comment said expensive 😅 I was thinking about elegant perfumes, but regardless of price tag.
Correct…a lot of these perfumes change when on skin. On top of that, they smell different on everyone. I do not enjoy the smell of Alien, but when I have worn it I get more compliments than any other perfume I own.
I love Chanel no.5. One spray of it is actually enough and it becomes more fragrant as hours pass by. It’s nice to wear it at night (date nights) and during the winter.
1. spray on the paper from further away 2. spray once 3. wait 20 seconds 4. then smell otherwise you only get top notes and alcohol which is not how the perfume was made... the way you test them of course nothing's gonna smell good... also test 3 max with time in between cause how can you make out the smell properly if every smell just intertwines with one another
You really have to test on your own skin. Then hold it away from nose after a few seconds, up to an hour later. Like you say, you can only smell a few scents correctly in the space of several hours.
I’m shocked that Baccarat 540 is on that list. I work at a Luxury Retailer and sells all day everyday. People come in and head straight for it. The most requested fragrance, hands down!
Many of these made the list because they’re over saturated. Everyone is wearing it smelling the same. I hate la vie est belle no matter who I smell it on lol
I'd love to know what perfume she wears. She sounds very condescending. Who in the world voted for these perfumes?! Everyone is different & has different tastes & besides Perfume smells different on everyone. To each his own. I didn't like this video at all & I Definitely Don't Agree with her in the least.
Anna, have to saw I often don’t agree with your perspective but still love to watch your videos. You’re entertaining, humorous and charming and your videos are fun 😄
I’m surprised that La Vie Est Belle is on a worse smelling list. I’ve been wearing this fragrance for years and always get so many compliments from men of all ages. I’m 72 now.
My Mom is also 72 and has been wearing this one for at least 5 years now, it's her signature scent and my dad keeps buying it for her...I say, if you love it keep wearing it. I associate it with her now :)
My all time fave also, I pop to the shops sometimes with a tiny bit on ( yes, I know, I'm just addicted) The times both women & men have said " can I ask about your perfume it smells amazing" ..Guys usually say they will buy one for their wife! It changes a lot on different body chemistry though, I have given a bit on friends wrists if they have asked & I admit its not for everyone, it can go very cloying & smell entirely different.
I really like it on other people but not on me, it's too strong for my personality. But I have made some candles and wax melts with LVEB oil and I love love love it as a house scent.
Good Girl by Carolina Herrera is one of my FAVORITES. Everyone is different and our Ph balance on our skin is different. Hence, the taste and how it smells on our skins. It’s definitely a keeper for me! I love the bottle too 🥰
True,i had a friend with olive skin and dark hair and her lifetime perfum was Opium smelled really good..(on her)..i thought i could wear it too,it was the nastiest smell ever.
Just one technical pointer: all of these fragrances were designed--actually, *engineered*--to be used on skin. And part of the excitement of perfume is that it may smell good on you, it may not. I passed a woman in a store wearing something lovely, and I asked her what she was wearing--Good Girl. That made me sad--I know for a fact it doesn't smell like that on me.
Right. Through lots and lots of sampling, I've learned a couple of "rules of thumb" about "parfums" in general: (1) To me, anything by Chanel will smell atrocious on me. (2) To me, anything by Yves Saint Laurent will smell intoxicating on me. I can't say how they smell to anybody else -- I think the only time anybody ever asked me what I was wearing because it smelled good, it was Armani Mania.
My mother wore only Chanel No. 5 her whole life. I grew up loving it! I bought a Chanel No 5 picture at HobbyLobby to hang in my powder room bc of the happy memories!
Opium was so sexy when it came out in the early 70s, everybody was wearing it! But two of the formulas ingredients became impossible to source and they had to reformulate in the early 2000s (and they absolutely screwed that up!) If you ever find an OG formula bottle you’ll see what I mean.
@@lavinianegru4303Well said that's true my favourite perfume Eternity by Calvin Klein isn't the same anymore and doesn't last as long unfortunately 😢😢😢😢
There is nothing wrong with classic perfumes. As long as you like the smell that is what matters. Fragrance is not something I go for what's currently in most of the time. Just because it is "in" doesn't mean I like the scent. I wish many weren't discontinued because some I really liked were retired or limited edition and I missed out.
I don't care what the high school cheerleaders have to say. Chanel No. 5 has always been my signature perfume and it was also my mother's. There is a difference between being an "outdated" scent and being a "timeless" one. Now since my mom is gone- it is also a very comforting smell.
Chanel No. 5 is one of my favorite scents! It’s a little too mature for my age (20), so I currently use Gabrielle by Chanel, but I see myself switching to No. 5 in a couple of years.
I'm a mature woman and I think that stuff reeks. Sorry. It differs for people don't be offended but don't devalue people who hate that stuff as "dumb teenagers" it makes you sound old and bitter
About 30 years ago a work colleague's boyfriend was a perfumist (he custom made perfumes) and had the gift of extra sensory smell. He could literally walk around a room of 100s of people and tell every person the perfume/after shave, shampoo/conditioner and skin moisturizer they were wearing purely by smell. Not only that he could advise the person what they "should" be wearing based on the emission of natural aroma from their body. He told me that every perfume smells differently on each individual because of how their own body behaves and that to truly appreciate a fragrance, you should spray some on your wrist then go about your normal day for 2-3 hours before you really sense it and then you will know how it really smells on your skin.
I have that sensory gift, only my neurosystem reacts the way it should since fragrance is toxic chemicals. They make me sick instantly. Perfumes actually make everyone sick you just dont notice like with cigarettes. They have been linked to hormonal inbalance, cancer etc.
@@ThornyRoseV Isn't this when you spray them direct ly on your skin and they get absorbed? I refuse to believe a fragrance emanating from someone else's body will give me cancer. Flowers should have been killing us in the wild if aromachemicals were so dangerous. Fragrances have a purpose in nature, fruits smell appealing so we can eat them and propagate their seeds. If you're nose is overreacting to every pleasant fragrance then perhaps the danger is to you, not the entire population.
Yes...when we were teenagers, my sister and I wore different scents...I absolutely loved Ann Klein on her, it smelled amazing, however it smelled awful on me....lol. I do well with citrus/floral scents.
I once had a bf who loathed my then favourite: Shalimar from Guerlain. He never said it expressly, just couched his disapproval in terms like, "It's quite strange." I kept the perfume, but not the guy in the end!😊
This is a perfect example of why you can't depend on someone else's opinion for fragrance...you really have to test for yourself. Except for Sí and Britney Spears, I love them all! ❤️
All of these fragrances are pretty strong, and they can be overwhelming when oversprayed. I imagine the "most hated scents" were judged under these conditions because many of these fragrances bloom nicely on many people when sprayed judiciously.
This is an excellent point. Many things affect how a scent is perceived, including how it’s worn, how much is worn, even what the climate is! Heat and humidity make it project more and certain notes smell much better in cold weather v. hot, or vice versa.
@@whyparkjiminnotridejimin yes, fragrance is different on everyone, as it interacts with our body chemistry. I always test a tiny bit on my pulse points, then walk around for a few hours to see how it blooms. Then I decide if it's a good match for me.
especially baccarat rouge, its notorious for being a fragranve which once you use it, your nose starts to get blind to it, so even though you can't smell it, others can, and as a result you will keep spraying it which will be a disaster
Concerning Opium: When I was in my 20s back in the 1980’s, my friends and I were in love w/this perfume! We thought it smelled exotic, sexy. And it reminded me of Estee Lauder’s Estee and Cinnabar, which I loved as a teen and young adult. (Ok, old-school for sure.)
I remember those days. Another popular scent back then was Beautiful also by Estee Lauder. I think part of their allure was to be hard to define and they changed on the skin.
Smells are also strongly associated with memories. A good perfume can be hated simply because it’s associated with a bad memory - wether it’s an event or a person 😅 I think this factor adds an important amount of subjectivity to something already so personal. I hope ladies whose perfume ended up on the list don’t feel offended, this is all in good fun. There’s a perfume for everyone, and if we all loved the same one, we’d all smell the same thing and it would be incredibly boring!
Charlotte, I agree with you about smells being associated with memories. As I just posted, I used to wear Flora Danica and I have a couple of empty bottles that still have very little scent left, but whenever I open one of them the scent brings back a world of good memories for me during a good time in my life.
Nice comment. Cause who cares...I never care if folks like or don't like what I do. Cause we all have our own personal style. And I love seeing the expression of all of my friends and their lovely styles. And I know they value me too.
You can tell Chanel was made for a time and during a time, when bathing was more of a luxury than a neccesity. It is strong enough to mask the smell of decomposition.
This review is so interesting in that many of the perfumes you say are "hated by many women" are actually really loved by many women, men and many other reviewers within the perfume community. It's amazing how negative and/or allergic reactions, bad memories and stressful experiences can affect one's overall opinion of a certain fragrance.
I imagine young girls were the ones who voted for these perfumes. They are what their parent's generation liked or what the uncool kids like. Not fancying them is like not caring for Celine Dion or Kelly Clarkson.
@@lovaloo763 yes, marketing, and lots of money invested in advertising, and making new flanker after flanker. I 'm sorry, but if you go on forums and sites where people who are really passionate about it, and who know how they are made, how trends are created, you would learn interesting things. I advise you to take a look at niche brands, like Lutens, Penhaligon' s, Guerlain's L'art et la Matière collection, Dyptique, etc, you will discover gems, and people will really compliment you. They are on the expensive side, true, but the essences, and concentration, above 25%, perfume, above eau de parfum, are worth it. It lasts for ages, has complexity, evolution on your skin. I'm hyperosmic, meaning I smell more than average people. I assure you there is a big difference. I could imagine what a perfume smells just by reading the pyramid. I reallyadvise you to go and search for something more personal, ask help, choose a brand that suits you. But always choose a fragrance that makes you feel well. Not the brand or the pretty bottle.
It's interesting that almost all of mentioned parfumes often are on many lists of the best parfumes. The most of them are strong fragrances with big aura and longevity. I personally appreciate that quality and really love some of them. It's all a matter of personal preference...
Hi Anna, you're meant to smell coffee beans between perfumes, A sales assistant in a fragrance department offered us a bowl of coffee beans between each perfume as it neutralises the smell. But great vlog, enjoyed it.
Coffee beans don't work in the way we are told it does, actually supposed to smell your own skin and I say this as I use to work for a very niche specialist perfumer.
Well, funny thing is that many of these parfumes are rated very high by reviewers, who actually understand the art of perfumery in the first place. It only proves one thing - young girls' noses aren't trained enough to appreciate the more sofisticated smells. I don't think I'm an "old lady" (agreeing with others you should really ditch that phrase), yet I respect many of these perfumes and have them in my collection for an occasional moment. (Poison Dior, Opium YSL, Chanel 5).And yes, I've trained my nose and have been studying perfumes for some time, now. My top #1 will always be Shalimar EDP.
Perfume is a very personal thing to many women. For some it brings back memories of wonderful times and experiences! If a fragrance makes you feel good, and brings you happiness when you wear it then that’s the important thing never mind if it isn’t someone else’s pick!😊
I have an empty bottle of Evening In Paris. Whenever I open it to smell it takes me back to my childhood. The bottle belonged to my grandmother. Still love the smell.
That's amazing... very relatable as well. I have a bottle of Shalimar that belonged to my grandma... I find it fascinating how fragrance can trigger such vivid memories.
@@lilygoatfluff6361Throughout history, perfume was used a silent tool of seduction by women. I don't think it was intended to be used for selfish ends primarily. Nevertheless, to each her own.
Same. It’s my fall/winter every day. I get so many compliments. Gucci Flora Gorgeous Gardenia is my spring/summer scent. So many compliments from n both..
Interesting. I was wracking by brain to try to remember the name of a wonderful perfume, and I can sometimes guess what someone is wearing. So once I said-Oh! I recognize your perfume (I say I smell just a hint so as not to be offensive) and the woman told me it was actually Opium. Knock me over with a feather! After that I checked for myself at a department store. I wish I could remember the name of the perfume I love, and thought it smelled like.,
Interesting... youtube recommended this vid to me as I've been researching the best and most loved perfumes as I'm looking for a new scent. Your list of most hated is almost the exact same list I've consistently seen as most loved (not all of them, but at least 5 of them?).... So interesting... lol
My most loved perfume was Poème. I wish they would bring it back. You know Anna , 75 year old women still have their favorite perfume and don’t want it retired.
I actually like Baccarat rouge just not on me but on my mother. Perfumes smell different on different people. My father loves Montale intense caffe and my mother hates it on him so much he keeps it in his office instead of home. But when I applied it on myself at a store my mom absolutely loved it
I hated all Montale perfumes except Montale “Dark Purple”, which I absolutely loved some 10 years ago and haven’t come in contact with it since, now I’m curious to smell it again
I think the only reason the Baccarat rouge540 is on the "most hated perfumes" is because the ladies who consider themselves to be the "it girls" thought they would be the only ones who would afford to buy it. After realising that most ladies actually could afford, they had to choose to "hate" it . And the over-the-up reaction from Anna on Baccarat rouge540 is just Pathetic.
@@CM-xn3pg I don’t think Anna’s reaction was pathetic. She clearly couldn’t stand it. I’ve had the same reaction when I couldn’t stand a scent, too. Nothing weird about not being able to tolerate something.
I've worn Good girl, La vie est Belle, and every time I did I received positive compliments from both men and women. It has to do with how it interacts with the body chemistry. Now wondering which perfumes appear sofisticated and again how they interact with the body chemistry.
I wear Beautiful by Estee Lauder, and don't care what anyone says. EVERYTIME I wear it, some man will always stop me and ask what it is. I am 60 and have long hair, and once a man stopped me to smell my hair. You can't make this stuff up. I just wear it on the skin and a tiny amount of the lotion on my hair. Several weeks ago my mother and I went to see a performance and couldn't find a seat. We exited by an usher, and one of them followed me and directed us up the elevator to two lovely seats. I believe this smells differently on everyone. I'm not beautiful, but my perfume is.
Because of my age (I was born in 1978) I have a nostalgic fondness for Opium. I grew up in a small town, but we’d visit the malls in the “big city” during the holidays. Opium reminds me of fashionable 80s ladies and the excitement of visiting a city as a child. That being said, I don’t want to wear it. I wouldn’t mind a bottle to spritz and sniff at Christmastime though. ❤
That's how I feel about this perfume oils called Interlude. It smells amazing but it triggers memories of my mom/grandmom. But it gives me being a kid in the 80's🥲
The magic comes down to the body chemistry of the wearer. I have adored Vera Wang's Embrace (Green Tea and Pear Blossom ) since it came out. It's all I wear, it drives my sweetheart crazy, and I get compliments regularly from ladies. That checks my three boxes, so it's perfect for me.
As someone who worked in a Perfume shop where I smelled these all day....I simply could not agree more. The only one I'd probably remove from that list is Good Girl - its a nice scent but doesn't last long at all. The rest are migraine givers to the highest degree!! Especially the Opium's.
I think we all can agree that perfumes are so personal, they work or don’t with your body. Therefore they smell differently on everyone. Interesting quote I saw somewhere “ a woman’s perfumes tells more about her than her handwriting “ and I think that is a true statement.
I agree, my husband had a unisex cologne and I tried it and it didn’t smell the same on me as it did on him. It depends on how the fragrance meshes with our natural pheromones.
My late mom wore Chanel no 5 and and L'air du Temps interchangeably. To me they're both lovely and remind me of her. Ive worn both and had no complaints.
Hi, I totally agree with you like you my mum who passed away recently wore this and was one of her favourites and its one of the staple perfumes that will never die.
Maybe I’m just an old soul (currently in my 40’s), but IMO Chanel No5 screams timeless, classy and mature woman. I wore this scent in my early 30s and got so many compliments from men! It was my first scent splurge.
Totally disagree. Some of these older perfumes have stood the test of time because they are stunning. A good mix is a good mix, nothing to do with age. What constitutes a young perfume anyway? And there are so many artificial chemically perfumes nowadays targeted at younger buyers which in my opinion smell yucky and cheap and others that smell lovely as well but it’s got nothing to do with age, it’s all about the composition of smells!
Anna, you need to know what Ambergris is, and how it’s connected to the making of fragrances. Especially the top end products. When you look into it, you’ll understand why. 😮
@@jacky3580 it's sperm whale vomit. It is most used as a fragrance "fix", to hold less stable scents. It also has a pleasant aroma, not fishy or gross at all. Most of the cost of a perfume is in the rarity of the ingredients. Ambergris is pretty rare. So is Oud and several other ingredients. Thankfully, science has been able to mimic many of the rare ingredients making them both easier to source and more ethical to use.
Hello....Chanel No 5 is very splendid perfume My father kept buying it for mom and the perfume really matches her true elegance. Some perfumes does not like all skins; every skin has its specific perfume.
Although I'm a bit late to the party, I must say that Baccarat Rouge must NEVER be sprayed on paper. When I first smelt it on a piece of paper I was absolutely disgusted and couldn't understand how someone can like this abhorrent chemical weapon at such an ungodly price. But then I thought of returning to the shop in a month and then sprayed it directly on my skin. And God almighty! the scent started playing out gorgeously. This is a molecular perfume so it plays tricks when on skin. The smell is actually stronger at a distance rather than when you try smelling it directly from the skin. It absolutely needs to mix with your body chemistry to really shine. And it wraps you in a cozy warm and sweet bubble of luxury.
It’s still disgusting, and headache inducing. I washed me arm like 4 times and I could still smell it, just nauseating. Also, molecular perfume? Absolute BS 😂 ppl really need to study science before talking scientific lingo
The SA at Nordstrom sprayed it on the back of my neck one spray only! You don’t want to smell this perfume from the source as it is very powerful and it smells better in the air surrounding you, not many ppl are going to smell your skin directly, how it smells in the air around is more important
All I know is that whenever I wear La Vie Est Belle, I am ALWAYS stopped by random people who ask what perfume I’m wearing, and shower me with compliments. It has a strong initial patchouli scent, however, the patchouli wears off and the lingering scent is absolutely beautiful on me 🤷🏽♀️
same, my mother swears by this perfume and uses it on Sundays. Every time she does she gets TONS of compliments and everyone wants to know what fragrance it is!
@@chiarab.z.2830 My mum is in her 50s and wears Mademoiselle, it suits her so much, even though it’s supposed to be for a “younger” audience. My grandma fell in love and has been wearing Armani’s Sì since it was launched and as much as I loved it on her, when she gifted me a small bottle of it, I couldn’t wear it for years. I found it last winter and when I put it on, it captivated me. I’ve been wearing it in colder weather ever since and will get it out of its box as the colder months arrive. I also used to dislike Estée Lauder’s Bronze Goddess and this summer I somehow fell in love with it. Long story short, I think our individual skin chemistry and overall taste change so much throughout the years that what we used to hate, might become a newfound favourite later on. I’d keep testing these fragrances and maybe one day they’ll be the perfect match!
I am a fragrance consultant for Chanel and No. 5 is SO polarizing. But it really does smell very different on everyone. I actually like the Eau de Toilette version on myself but not the original Eau de Parfum. Fragrance is such a personal experience!
Yeah I use Chanel No. 5 eau de parfum once my mom tried it too didn’t smell the same on her but it smells great on me never giving up on Chanel every1 loves it on me 😅
True! My personal favorite is L'Eau, but I've noticed No 5 is not the same on me as it was when I was in my early 20s (31 now) - it's waaaay better And I get to like it more and more, but I still stick with L'Eau :D
Same here. I love Eau de toilette No5 but I find the perfume version very different. It is definitely an older scent that I would have not worn in my 20. In my 30s and 40s it grew on me. Now I think of it as the epitome of elegance.
A perfume always blendd with a person's own chemistry. When it's good, it can be amazing! But when it's not a good mix, nothing can fix it, no matter how expensive or cheap it is. When I was a very young teen, I thought Giorgio's Red smelled lovely. Then I worked for a woman who bathed in it every day. It was so nasty when she wore it, poor thing. Eyes watered, noses stung... every single day. So if a cologne doesn't work for you, it seriously wasn't made for you & your body. 😊❤
It often comes down to the amount you spray. If you're an oversprayer and douse yourself in anything, it quickly becomes annoying and unpleasant. Also, the more you spray, the less you smell it yourself (anosmia), and people around you suffer. Using only one perfume also makes you get used to it, and not smelling it yourself anymore, which leads to overspraying.
I actually bought a bottle of Chanel No°5 hair mist last year ! Yes it's reminiscent of an older generation BUT the hair mist is very light and a classic. You'd be amazed the compliments I've had from girls younger than 30😍
This is how you sample at a department store but I agree, especially for a warm scent, like Opium. Straight from the bottle is especially unpleasant for many of these
It’s amazing how perfume smells take you to a specific time-frame and event. I wore Estee Lauder White Linen on my wedding day in the 80’s and loved it, now any time I smell it I’m transported back to that wonderful day. For years now I wear Coco Mademoiselle and occasionally Prada Milano, stuck in my ways 😁. I also remember wearing Samsara in the 80’s and Opium now they make me nauseated!
Can't believe Angel's on the list, one of my all-time favs. Always get compliments when I wear it. You have to be sure to use it lightly, otherwise it overwhelms. Fragrance should never precede you.
I can't stand Angel! I love Alien though, but I've noticed there is no in between with that one, you either hate it or you love it. I have recognized that by the comments I receive when wearing it. I feel that Angel is the same way. It's a very distinct smell that people either hate or love.
It’s so interesting isn’t it? How fragrances can be so subjective. My Mum actually wears YSL Opium (yes, definitely 80s vibes 😂😂) and it’s the only perfume she ever wears. I love the smell of this perfume because it reminds me of her, how that scent would waft around where she was getting ready to go out ❤️
Every time I smell Channel No5 I think of one of my dear old family “Auntie’s” and remember her enjoying her daily spritz along with her evening drink of Scotch. And every time I smell Youth Dew from Estee Lauder my mind immediately travels back to age seven and watching my beautiful Mom get dressed up for work in her pretty blouses and jewelry, looking glamorous. Just because a scent is old does not mean it should be discarded. Scent is memory.
I wear it in the fall and winter! And yes I am an 80’s child!! My high school sweetheart’s mother wore it and it brings back memories of happy times!!!
A lot of thumbs up for honesty!! Baccarat rouge smells like old sweat, a bit masculine. And it has longevity. I have been living as vegetarian for 20yrs and most perfumes smell just synthetic to me. Thats all.
Opium reminds me of my grandmother, Its a very very spicy perfume and doesn't read well on a card, but on the skin it is lovely, and will always be something that reminds me of her. Honestly its so subjective to vote a "most hated" perfume... everyone likes different things. I love D&G light blue... on other people. On myself it makes me want to puke.
These fragrances are among the top selling perfumes in the world. I personally own SIX (6) of these. It is my personal opinion that this survey is for the most LOVED fragrances. Also, as a side note, fragrance is a personal preference and how it smells on an individual is completely based upon one's body chemistry. Ten women can wear the same fragrance and it smells different on all ten! You can wear an inexpensive fragrance but if it blends well with your body chemistry, you will smell like a million bucks!
As a lot of people have commented, each perfume matures differently on the individuals skin based on the person's own natural scent and skin's pH. I personally love Armani Si, both Muglers and don't mind Chanel No.5. I like Chanel or Alien if I want to feel sterile yet powerful for work. Armani Si reminds me of a Christmas hug. Angel is sweet, not my personal style but if I want a touch of lightness and elegance I adore Twilly d'hermes. ❤️
Hello ladies, I just want to make a comment about Opium. It was from the 70’s and I loved it back then. It was a rich long lasting fragrance and it was made from distilling plants and not made in a lab. Some years now it resembles nothing of its former self and I was informed by a consultant that the European Union had told various perfumers that they needed to change their formula and water it down. I believe that Guerlain also had to do this. I like fragrance made from plants not out of various bottles by a technician. That’s why I love going to France there are so many independents making scents
Nocturnes de Caron was my signature scent for years (beginning in the 1980's when it was created) but then it stopped smelling the way it had before and I found out that it was because they began using synthetics instead of natural ingredients (flowers).
@@AsiminaKouloukouri You are absolutely correct. There are small businesses in U.K. and France that produces their own scents it’s just a problem finding them. I went to Grasse in France many years ago to the perfume factory there where I believe it all started. You could have a tour to see the different methods of extraction. Very interesting. I haven’t looked to see if they are still there but a great opportunity if you can go. I buy oils and wear them sometimes. like Jasmin. Rose is very expensive because of the amount of petals it takes to make a small amount. Right now I don’t know what the answer is.
I truly think it's from smelling it being worn by someone whom it didn't lay on very well. Body chemistry is so important in perfume. If someone's natural notes don't support vanilla for example, vanilla will smell stale (or even putrid!) on them. It's why I never recommend spraying on cards. High quality perfumes need that interaction with skin and heat.
This video shows that things are very subjective sometimes! What is likeable and suitable for one person might not be for another one. For example, one of my favourite perfumes of all time it is Baccarat Rouge 540(my chosen one is Versace bright crystal though!)! Every time I put this perfume on(BR540) I get many many compliments, so ladies, from my perspective I would say some opinions should be taken with a pinch of salt, as different people have different taste, especially when it comes down to smelling.
I do like "poison", the original one❤️ But I only use it in winter, when I wear scarfs and chunky sweaters and coats. The smell then, blend well, and last a lot in the skin. But It's definetley not an everyday perfume.
The lancome perfume i got so much compliments, i was told i smelled sexy, and a man stopped me and asked me what i was wearing so he could get one for his wife
I worked in the fragrance industry and most of these are actually best sellers! Maybe people voted for their favourites by accident because this doesn't seem correct based on my knowledge of what the ladies are buying...
Same, I agree. These are actually best selling perfumes - wondering who she surveyed.
I think most hated perfumes are usually the ones that are most popular. Of course if you have something popular it will trigger hate as well. There are many less popular perfumes people just dont know about and many people dont like.
Or, the “pick me” girls are just hating on what’s popular, as usual.
I don’t like the smell of Baccarat Rouge 540 also.
@@juncapulong1911 omg same !! It gives me headaches.
Who else is shocked that Armani’s Si made it to the list? Every time I wear this perfume I get asked about it in a very positive way!
Same, I got a lot of compliments.
Me too, I get also compliments when I wear this one. But I think most ladies forget they should choose perfume based on their skin tone and season and personality.
I love Si too! I can't wear perfumes but it's a lovely scent.
I love Si! I'm shocked it made a bad list. I've worn this & received many compliments. Perfumes are deeply personal & blend with your own chemistry, so this video is not the most accurate, just opinion based.
Maybe is bc it works with your ph so is YOU that makes it nice.
I was given Chanel no5 for my 40th birthday and I have been wearing it and loving it ever since .
I had my 80th birthday this this year.🥰
Oh boy, my all time favourite. Never ever goes out of style
I like it but i prefer "coco chanel".
Channel is one I dislike 👎
I'm on my second bottle of Good Girl. I wasn't thrilled at first, but it turned amazing with my body chemistry. To each their own!

I don’t agree with this list at all 😅 I feel like it’s more like “most mainstream perfumes” rather than “most hated”. Most of these are very liked perfumes. Definitely not the worst smelling perfumes in my opinion….
Agreed. Sounds as if the poll group was indeed mainstream.

@@nonamesinnombre666 Me too! I’m already on my 3rd bottle of it 😀
Perfume preference is very personal - and each person's chemistry changes it, so what you love on someone else may smell awful on you.
Exactly right about chemistry
So ageist and we love our old perfumes and we try new ones to. Delia Morris

As a fragrance collector with over 350 perfumes, I must say… These are all best sellers. This makes no sense! I don’t wear any of these anymore, but I will say that billions upon billions of women do and they all sell very well continuously.
How do you manage to keep your perfumes fresh? I would collect them, but perfumes go rancid when unused for a period of time!
I actually find it to be the opposite and that they get better with age. I have never had any perfume go rancid.
Yes i do agree with u. TM Alien smells just great, suitable for leisure esp at night time..
What a well articulated lovely comment✨ 🧛🏻♀️🖤
@akiyoshidai1231: that sounds like a very French attitude towards perfume that you picked up whilst at Hermès, “each skin marries each own perfume…”. Well said.
Hermes perfumes are indeed lovely. My favourites are any one in the "Jardin" line.

A lot of these are faves of mine. Gorgeous scents. I don’t care what others say because my friends and husband always compliments my perfumes and many I use are what those are.
Exactly
I agree, I think it depends on the countries as well
It depends on how it reacts with your body chemistry.
I wouldn’t trust people on Instagram to decide what perfumes smell good.
I LOVE Baccarat Rouge! So many of these are best sellers, so I think what people don't like is the fact that they are over hyped and so many people wear them.
That was the only one that surprised me. It is overhyped, but I like it.
I am not a fan of Angel
or Chanel No5.

I love it too, so feminine.
1. spray on the paper from further away
2. spray once
3. wait 20 seconds
4. then smell
otherwise you only get top notes and alcohol which is not how the perfume was made...
the way you test them of course nothing's gonna smell good... also test 3 max with time in between cause how can you make out the smell properly if every smell just intertwines with one another

This! Watching the video was painful but entertaining. lol I wondered if she had nose blindness by the end of it.

I love Good Girl too. It goes from day to evening beautifully. Feminine and sexy. Men LOVE it.
No. It stinks regardless of pH

I’ve heard the same.

Isn't this when you spray them direct ly on your skin and they get absorbed?
I refuse to believe a fragrance emanating from someone else's body will give me cancer. Flowers should have been killing us in the wild if aromachemicals were so dangerous. Fragrances have a purpose in nature, fruits smell appealing so we can eat them and propagate their seeds. If you're nose is overreacting to every pleasant fragrance then perhaps the danger is to you, not the entire population.

Chanel No. 5 all time classic...first expensive perfume i was given and i love it!
You're right. Fragrance should be a part of your being, not announce your presence from a block away.
Less is more, ladies!
Also spraying so much on a test paper doesn't show the full potential of a perfume
Yep. Mom had both Cinnabar and Opium. I always think of her when I smell it.
I remember those days. Another popular scent back then was Beautiful also by Estee Lauder. I think part of their allure was to be hard to define and they changed on the skin.
Oh this is taking me back! Remember Youth Dew? And Aliage? In high school I drenched myself in Aliage and ran EVERYONE off the school bus 😅
@@tallblonde1976 my mom wore youth few for ages! Before that it was Emerade. Now that's a classic.
@@tallblonde1976 Oh, I hated Youth Dew!!!! That would be my #1 as the worst. I do remember Alliage slightly.
@@susanstacy2493 i agree with that.
I prefer niche perfumes .
@@susanstacy2493
@Mariel Ang Much younger, actually, brat.
It's based on preference though. Many people have scent sensitivities, and the ones on that list are heavy ones in my opinion.
I was shocked as she pulled out classic after classic. They're still selling for a reason, lol.
It's all a matter of personal preference...
maybe we are all just sick of those
Hi Anna, you're meant to smell coffee beans between perfumes,
A sales assistant in a fragrance department offered us a bowl of coffee beans between each perfume as it neutralises the smell. But great vlog, enjoyed it.
I knew someone that worked at the perfume counter at a Nordstrms and she said the same thing
Coffee beans don't work in the way we are told it does, actually supposed to smell your own skin and I say this as I use to work for a very niche specialist perfumer.
@@K_12389 I came here to say this
Myth.
Coffee beans will make your nose more tired. The best thing to do is smell clean skin.
Well said 🙂
I have an empty bottle of Evening In Paris.

Black Opium is one of my most complimented perfumes. It had a lovely distinct coffee smell as the star of the show.
Same. It’s my fall/winter every day. I get so many compliments. Gucci Flora Gorgeous Gardenia is my spring/summer scent. So many compliments from n both..

Love the original opium.

Obsession was my go to for years
Interesting.

It's my favourite perfume. I get alot of complements...
@@nthabisengramolefe8354 which one?
@@yesiownfrodo He smelled your hair? Was it Joe Biden?
Because of my age (I was born in 1978) I have a nostalgic fondness for Opium. I grew up in a small town, but we’d visit the malls in the “big city” during the holidays. Opium reminds me of fashionable 80s ladies and the excitement of visiting a city as a child. That being said, I don’t want to wear it. I wouldn’t mind a bottle to spritz and sniff at Christmastime though. ❤
I used to love opium. It must trigger great highschool memories for me:)
Are u kidding l love Armani Si it’s gorgeous, agree about Carolina Herrera it’s yikes!
Opium it’s yikes too😂
Love opium
Actually good girl last too long for me ahaha....i put it on coat and it last for weeks
Almost all the perfume are the best perfume
I agree with you!!!
My Good Girl lasts for days... 😅 sometimes even after being washed haha
GG give me headache, but not Opium 🤷♀️very subjective
I love Angel. I get compliments everywhere I go & have had multiple people chase me down to ask what I'm wearing. I guess it depends who is wearing it
I think we all can agree that perfumes are so personal, they work or don’t with your body.
It depends on how the fragrance meshes with our natural pheromones.
very well said, ZK.
My late mom wore Chanel no 5 and and L'air du Temps interchangeably. To me they're both lovely and remind me of her. Ive worn both and had no complaints.
Mine too!
I used to love L'air du Temps....I'd forgotten about it.
I love those too, plus Chanel 5, Royal Secret, and Il Baccio.
My neighbor used l’air de temp I loved the bottle sitting on her dresser.
Totally agree
Agree!!!
One of my favourite perfumes too. Beloved and so unique.
Agree! My mum used to wear it in the 70s when she was young and stylish! She also used to wear No9
You are right ..
I think I know what it is, I’d never wear it.
Hello....Chanel No 5 is very splendid perfume
My father kept buying it for mom and the perfume really matches her true elegance.

I found it last winter and when I put it on, it captivated me. I’ve been wearing it in colder weather ever since and will get it out of its box as the colder months arrive. I also used to dislike Estée Lauder’s Bronze Goddess and this summer I somehow fell in love with it. @@natashaivanchenko7017 exactly, it takes time and maturity to get to love it
Dear Anna, I think it depends on the skin and on the season.
I think she's just going off a survey, it is what it is
Chanel No. 5 is amazing! I mean maybe the top note is a little itchy but the heart note is warm and phenomenal 🥰
You'd be amazed the compliments I've had from girls younger than 30😍
Not for nothing, how can you judge any perfume without actually wearing it in your skin?
Bcuz she's typical of her age!! Shameful....
This is how you sample at a department store but I agree, especially for a warm scent, like Opium. Straight from the bottle is especially unpleasant for many of these
I wore Good Girl for a while and got SO many compliments on it but I got tired of it. Very heavy.
Poison is so strong I can't stay in the same room if someone is wearing it. My head starts throbbing and i feel unwell.

I never get headaches but smelling Angel or Le Baiser du Dragon will give me instant nausea and headache ahah
Years ago I was told to spray in the air and then step into it. It works-and perfumes the bedroom before you leave it too.
It’s so interesting isn’t it? How fragrances can be so subjective.
My Mum actually wears YSL Opium (yes, definitely 80s vibes 😂😂) and it’s the only perfume she ever wears.

Opium is amazing on hair too, especially after hours, when it wears off

These fragrances are among the top selling perfumes in the world. I personally own SIX (6) of these. It is my personal opinion that this survey is for the most LOVED fragrances. Also, as a side note, fragrance is a personal preference and how it smells on an individual is completely based upon one's body chemistry. Ten women can wear the same fragrance and it smells different on all ten! You can wear an inexpensive fragrance but if it blends well with your body chemistry, you will smell like a million bucks!
If you look it up, some of these are the top selling perfumes… probably for a reason 😌

I didn’t know they still make parfumes from plant essences. Any advise on brand names?

You are absolutely correct.
Alien by Thierry mugler is delightfully unique. My number one is Angel by Thierry mugler. Timeless
Angel is actually my favourite scent, really can't understand why it is so hated. It's sweet, warm and embracing 💎
It’s so very unique…but my mother in law wore it for years so I never will. 😢
Same. My friend hates BR54 EDT-- she says it smells like rotten mango on her-- but whenever I wear it or the extrait, I get complimented so much.
Versace Bright Crystal smells absolutely rancid on me 😂😂 so funny how these perfumes react so differently with each of our bodies

BR stinks, if it was cheap nobody would care for it
I loved bright crystal too until I smelled absolute so that's my favorite from the line.
I do like "poison", the original one❤️ But I only use it in winter, when I wear scarfs and chunky sweaters and coats. The smell then, blend well, and last a lot in the skin. But It's definetley not an everyday perfume.
Same here.
My sister had Poison perfume, used to give me terrible headaches 🤕
I loved this when I was young, but when Midnight Poison came out, it became my signature fragrance.
Poison, the red and the purple are great. Not for everybody i admit but they amazing perfumes
The lancome perfume i got so much compliments, i was told i smelled sexy, and a man stopped me and asked me what i was wearing so he could get one for his wife
