Since this is an opinion video, the comments are no doubt gonna be filled with hot takes, so I might as well throw mine into the ring: Trubbish and Vanillite don't deserve nearly as much hate as they get and stand up way better than "just a sparrow" or "some poop somebody dropped some googly eyes in." Same goes for the elemental monkeys really, never talk to me or my sons again. Unrelated, but your comment about being born in 05 made all of my hair turn grey before falling out.
The elemental monkies would stand out 1,000x more and just be 1,000x better if they all came from a single Normal-type mon. And I do get why they start off as their own type triangle typing from a game dev perspective, but this is one of the few times where game design being the focus helped the experience only a little bit and in return doomed a mon forever. See Onix for the classic example of that. Forcing the elemental monkies into the role of being starter-lites really set them up for failure, and them _only_ being compared to the starters from then on is a direct result of that. I really want to see them in the same light as mons like Ludicolo, Shiftry, and Ninetales, the other elemental stone evolution mons that are cool in their own right, but when the games themselves say "Oh, you picked _that starter?_ Then let me give you this monkey, so the monkey the Gym Leader picks in direct counter to _your starter_ can be countered itself!", then it becomes almost impossible to untangle them from that way of thinking. Like, at least make them wild encounters in the nearby route so the parallels isn't so forced!
@@christiancinnabars1402a regular monkey, a elemental monkey based on if you let them learn a fire, water, or grass move, then a stone evolution so they can be stronger
Idk what it is with some games being unable to handle changes in wardrobe. The Dynasty Warriors series (including Samurai Warriors and spinoffs like Hyrule Warriors) grinds to an absolute halt if you so much as want to see what a character looks like holding a different weapon or in a new hat.
No real lies detected. I love SV but I can't believe that there's anyone who experienced NO slowdown, especially at the lake. That said the ending broke my heart. I wasn't expecting anything like that and it left me a wreck. 10/10 would sob again.
For real, I don't know what kind of copies of the game these guys had but mine chugged like nobody's business and really dampened the experience. I enjoyed the experience and the ending went so hard, I just don't want to go through the game crashing on me a third time and probably won't be replaying it, at least not for a long time (not a great thing since I love playing through Pokemon games multiple times).
@@castform7 Ah now I didn't experience any crashes. The only Switch game that's ever crashed on me is Breath of the Wild. But yeah there seems to be a wide variety of experiences in this.

I completely agree with your take about Black 2 and White 2. My first game and favorite game was Pokemon X after I got infatuated with Pokemon off the cards and anime talk at school. While Pokemon X taught me the basics and helped me get integrated into the formula, playing through Black 2 about a month ago made me realize how much I was missing out in that era. The games have so much charm and there’s just so much to do and see during the playthrough and postgame. Also the fact that the dex is so diverse after the time skip between BW makes it feel that more refreshing. Probably the snappiest of the handheld area, and slowly creeping up to becoming my favorite over X.
My first Pokémon game was technically Black2, and then VERY close afterwards, I got Soul Silver. So gen 5 and 4 were my OGs. Serperior and Typhlosion have a very special place in my heart as my first starters. Also makes me happy to see a fellow Black2 enjoyer
There was a ten year gap between me playing _White_ and me getting _Y_ so I have a lot of fondness for it too; it was sort of like a second first game for me.
You have such an energy about you that manages to be entertaining without ever being annoying. It’s a rare thing! And your editing skills are wonderful
I also LOVE Ultra Sun and Moon, Legends Arceus, and Scarlet, are the only ones of beaten and they were all good also, I never experienced major glitches in Scarlet, but the ones I did experience were super funny and were only minor inconveniences.
I highly recommend the XY anime, especially if you’re looking for a great incarnation of team flare (they no joke have to best villain arc of the whole anime) Also sad there were no mention of snap/new snap in the spinoff section (new snap was made by the pokken dev mainly because Pokémon was so impressed by how pokken looked)
Loved the video and ppl who love hgss love its challenge mostly not as much the level curve or map that's why bdsp is so fun but it's sad the gyms were so weak they need to remake them with compedative moves before post game or atleast give their ace an item
Probably one of the best videos about what Pokémon really does well as not only a franchise but as an entire universe. There are so many things that doesn't "fit" but make things special. Hidden mechanics, gimmicks and even contradictions all helps to make every experience unique. There are not many games (I honestly can't remember one) that puts so much unnecessary stuff just for flavor and doesn't even bother to explain. Shinies, pokérus, pokéblocks, Spinda forms, evolution methods, IVs, EVs and so many other things aren't or weren't really explained and aren't really necessary for beating the game but it just works. Even the core gameplay is very unique. The type-chart being so asymetrical and each type having some kind of different flavor makes the game feels more alive than if it was "perfectly balanced", not to talk about how each Pokémon is trully unique in it's combination of stats, moves, typing and etc. Great video!
I get the HGSS take. I hate the thing of "widely liked game becomes is now much worse to so many" but after playing the game for the first time, the game falls off a bit after Morty. As someone who's fine with grinding, the level curve was really tedious to work through. Plus the Pokemon selection and where Johto Pokemon are placed just make me question what they were thinking sometimes, I still think it was a fun game and don't even think it's overrated but its flaws are very noticeable.
Yeah. Even as remakes they fail. Like they fix almost none of the glaring, game-wide flaws the originals had, like awful pokemon availability and the level curve. The new content is nice, but nowhere near makes up for the walk in hell that is the main game.
From someome who played it when it came out: the pokewaller immensely helped the selection a lot. Ponyta, magby, dratini, Kangaskhan accessible that way at any point. And then from the event routes I really liked having bounce magikarp, selfdestruct munchlax, and I worked hard to get surfichu and flyichu :D
Yeah, but that unfortunately most wild Gen 2 Pokemon are still pretty much useless, and the Pokewalker was certainly a temporary feature that isn't available to most nowadays, especially when so many people are playing the game on emulators due to the absurdly overpriced aftermarket. The Pokemon aftermarket isn't great, but these games specifically are NOT worth the 100-200 dollars they generally go for.
The best opinions are those that aknowledge the bad on the stuff one likes. That's what makes them valid and respectable. I love XY with all my heart but even I say they're not perfect. At all

Yea to be fair I had no issues with scarlet and violet, never ran into a crash or major bug, but I never called them my favorite games, they were my silver only behind the ultra games, until the DLC came out, then they became my favorites
I always thought picking a favorite type was hard. I feel like you would have to go through all the Pokemon in that type as well as at least some of the moves. Speaking of which, picking a favorite move sounds both easy and hard based off just how many there are. I 100% agree with the jhoto games being not as great as people say it is. It has its good parts but I feel like the characters had little interest unless you read the manga. Level curve is awful and grinding in certain parts of the games took way to long. On the other hand I do love the atmosphere and music, but as someone who grew up with bw2 as well having to go into my bag just to get repels is what makes it hard to replay the older games

Saying Absol isn't that good gameplay wise made me laugh because I have an Absol with like 3 crit moves with different typing, swords dance and insane stats
Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon love lets go!!! Also about HGSS, I just love my pokemon actually following me too much. It makes up for all the shortcomings of them for me.
