RIP to Marty Krofft! Several years back, I had a blast watching Pufnstuf, Lidsville, The Bugaloos, and even some of their later projects like Krofft Super Show. RIP to Billie Hayes as well. Also he died many years ago, but Lennie Weinrib is also missed.
The costume & voice of Puf'n'Stuf are different. I grew up watching this show religiously, numerous times. But great to see Marty Krofft & Billie Hayes. I loved Billie Hayes as Witchy Poo when I was growing up in the 1970s. There were numerous reruns on TV, even though there were only 17 episodes & 1 movie made. I worshipped her. So sad she is no longer with us. RIP 🕊 🙏
Great to see another interview , specially with Billie Hayes! Also the Pufnstuf costume is actually an official one used since the 70's I believe and it was first use at the Hollywood bowl I think. Its been to so many places and used so much for live events and guest appearances that its starting to fall apart on itself. There's images of this exact costume years after this and god it looks terrible.
@@cscarson8798 No it's appeared on a gameshow and C.H.I.P.S before, the exact same suit , but it was mainly used for live events but was also used for TV and this suit also appeared on a episode of Sigmund and the sea monsters.ua-cam.com/video/TykJyokOVKQ/v-deo.html , ua-cam.com/video/7JMuCh6GFew/v-deo.html
When she did her thing, there was a witch standard of The Wicked Witch of the West from Wizard of Oz. Nobody could even think of making it to that standard, but it was a goal that people playing witches could aim for. They'd always fall short. Billy didn't fall short. With Witchiepoo, she matched WWotW, and today they are the pair #1 standard for memorable witches.
3:14 it is crazy to hear about a planned DISNEY land of the lost movie, I wonder how that would have turned out. Do you know the date of this interview/ what show it was? Thank you for uploading!
As of December 2023, there was still no remake of pufnustf ever made. He talks here as if it was being made but it wasn’t. What a shame!!! It’s so ripe for a remake and for development. Kroft says they developed a land of the lost, Pufnstuf and seamonsters movie but none of them ever happened. I never understood why Pufnstuf wasn’t remade as a feature film in the 90s or 2000s!!!?????? It would’ve been perfect as a big production and they would’ve unfortunately used digital imaging for lots of special effects which maybe would’ve ruined it. If ever they remake it as of 2023 onwards, they should NOT use CGI and just use first principles of acting, pantomime or puppetry to develop it. The magic of Pufnstuf is in the costumes and character acting. It shouldn’t be too high concept or animated or any of that. Digital imagining and computers ruin the imagination. That’s why kids these days are so brain dead and unimaginative. Everything is explained to them and not allowed to be amateur or “shown”. They tell them everything in film and animation and all the mystery dies as a result.
The voice isn’t the same. Shame. Puff had a sweeter voice. I suppose by the 90s the original voice actor of Pufnstuf would’ve been too old or perhaps had died
Lennie Weinrib the original voice of H.R. Pufnstuf retired from acting in the early 90s and moved to Santiago Chile he last voiced him on The Krofft Superstar Hour in 1978 the year before he did in the CHiPs episode “The Green Thumb Burglar” where Pufnstuf made a cameo appearance
the actor is this particular costume was Mr. Kroft's daughter.. watch the last 10 minutes of the interview again.. they make mention of his daughter in the costume.
Shocking costume. Not the one from the series and really disappointing. Surely they could’ve gotten the costume to look like the original? Seriously? You can’t switch costumes like that

You forgot to mention Jack Wild, the heart and soul of Puffnstuff. He is missed the most, with Billie coming in a close second.
RIP Billie Hayes and Marty Krofft.

That particular costume was designed for public appearances strictly.

Witchepoo and the wicked witch of the west did Paul Lyndes Halloween special in 1976 with KISS

I have a feeling after land and the lost tanked at the box office that may have killed off any future projects
You had Billie Hayes on your show and didn't even ask her any questions.
WITCHIEPOO for President!!!!!
A Great Choice!
At least they could have looked at a picture of original costume!
amazing

That's the crappy costume- it aint the one that was used in the series
This is sad. They should have fixed the head before bringing the costume in.
yep, would've helped. Pufnstuf didn't have that head in the series.
@@cscarson8798 First thing I noticed. Also not the origonal voice either.
@@Tinyman12 Yes, they lost their original voice. Lennie Weinrib

Who was the actor that was in the costume for Pufnstuf? Was it a woman? Seems feminine
For Pufinstuf the actor in the costume was Roberto Gamonet (1923-1982) and the voice was Lennie Weinrib (1935-2006).

Sadly, the original Pufnstuf costume was destroyed in a warehouse fire. I agree, this one is a poor substitute.
@@ellennewth6305 Where did you hear this from? Genuinely curious since this is the first time I'm hearing about something like this.
Billie hayses is hot ❤
