I highly encourage everyone to just get to 15-17 chain and then just spam reset the radar. I have gotten shinies within an hour to two MAX every single time I've done this. Trust me, save your sanity.

@@daniyalJaved73 yeah. 50 step, radar, 50 steps. The only downside to this is the amount of repels you use, but with the vs seeker money's not really an issue

Ever thought of trying to Save before encounter and resetting the game when the chain breaks?

@@KaldonWK I don't feel the shiny chain change is that big because getting a Shiny is supposed to be hardwork and right now getting a shiny is easier than it ever was and Shiny don't serve any major purpose
But man, they should have fixed the IVs... it's literally a bug in the code, at least fix the bug.... But I guess Destiny Knot is the only way to get 5 IV+ Pokemon right now

This is huge if you want to continue the chain after catching a shiny that’s not 4 spaces away
I plugged the 7% rate into a binomial calculator and if you do everything right, only ~5% of chains make it to 40.
It kind of reminds me of the digging holes minigame in Skyward Sword, the one with bombs and stuff. Even using the assistant, there's still a big chance to miss.
Okay and I may be dumb here but is that going to 39 and constantly rerolling or going to 40 then rerolling
I made it too 30 and then after I captured the pokemon nothing was shaking... chain broke 💔

i must be unlucky af then, i've had my chain break at one a handful of times and have never got a chain of 40 once
That 7% chance for the chain to break is killer. Yes, the grass is way easier to identify, but the IV stuff makes it even worse.
It seems they like to keep the game as grindy as possible. They haven't even updated the long black screen just opening the game, makes soft resetting such a pain with added time each time.
If you think this game is going to get quality of life updates you are very wrong, watch how they leave this game in to the grownd in 1 month

Soo they made the pokeradar worse. Can't say I saw that coming. It's ridiculous that they didn't fix IV's. I really wish Pokemon developers would start communicating with us and rationalizing the decisions they make, it feels like we have no interaction with the companies and they don't listen to our feedback

Pokémon is one of their biggest franchises, it’s annoying that they leave us (the fan base) in the dark when it comes to updates. They could at least have the decency to let us know what is being changed.

When it comes to any of Nintendo's flagship games, there's no chance of this (unless a shock change in their methods arises).They know that their games will sell shitloads regardless, so they see no need to communicate with the fanbase. It's literally all about the $$$ and nothing else.
I can't believe I was actually able to get 4 shiny Togepi with the PokeRadar after the update.....of course all of them had hustle....

If I were to buy a switch and a physical copy of the game rn, do you think I'd still have a non-updated version of the game? if I turn the autoupdates off on the new switch before inserting the game
@@paolosardi9734 I’m not really tech savy but I do remember watching a video from BLAINES about how you should be able to uninstall all updates and go back to the first. The only thing these updates are doing are making it impossible to do the glitches and the online events on the same game now which is why having both games is optimal unless you want to constantly update and then uninstall the updates to do both on one game

However, even if you update and end up downgrading, don't play in between. if you save in an upper version, chances are your save file will be locked to that ver

@@paolosardi9734 That would be playing the newest version and save. Downgrading may trigger the software to advise you to update as your save data does not match the downgraded version.
I feel like ILCA doesn’t understand that when you update a game you’re suppose to make it better not worse
I tried doing this yesterday to hunt Starly, my chain broke 6 times before I even got to 29. I kept getting unlucky and having no spawns over 4 tiles away and had to start over, and then my chain broke at 29 and I gave up
if you dont have anything 4 spaces away, reroll it

Thats what you are doing after you have gotten to a chain of 40 until the shiny batch shows up...but you can also do it when there are no good spawns
But dont forget you cannot leave the route or encounter a wild pokemon/trainer battle
Are you in the the big patch at the start where the girl gives you free potions I got one shiny starly that was bad and then I finally got a 40 chain that had a shiny right away but my chain ended after I caught it
I'm planning to go Route by Route getting all shinies on each.. for Route 1, I already got Starly, Bidoof, and Nidoran male.. trying to do Nidoran female now, but on Shining Pearl, Nidoran in general has a 2% chance to spawn.. so I spend hours just trying to get the Nidoran to start the chain.. just for there to be a 5% higher chance of the chain to break, on every single catch... This has been a real struggle
This is definitely to try and reduce the amount of shinys captured in one chain
In the original the chance of your chain breaking was 2% with 4 tiles away and a capture. This game made it easier to chain and harder for your chain to break when in the overworld at the expense of it breaking because of RNG with the chance going up to 7%. I honestly don't think they should have made the chance to break that high because now radar hunting is more annoying than anything. I have been hunting for enough hours to make up several days and still haven't gotten to a chain of 40. I still got the shinys but its incredibly annoying when you do everything perfectly and still have that high chance of just not succeeding. I think 4% would have been a better percentage for the chain to break. More often than the originals but not as garbage as the current rate to where it's almost impossible to do.
The devs clearly didn’t have enough time to play test the game, thanks pokemon company executives. Ive had the exact same experience as you.
I've been obsessed with shiny hunting since this game came out and I've never gotten a chain past 15. There's only a couple I've even gotten to 15.
I honestly think the problem is Nintendo has spoon fed us easy ways to shiny hunt to the point getting shinies has been a joke for generations and now they actually make it harder again and everyone's crying about it and if u don't believe me check the rates of shiny hunting when it comes to ultra wormholes and also Max raid battles in sword and shield
@@stonksrus Yah I don't shiny hunt with Ultrawormholes, Dynamax adventures, Let's Go P/E or Pokemon Go. To me those make it wayyyyy too easy to get a shiny.

I understand fixing the bugs so people can't abuse the game exploits, by literally why would you do anything that makes the hell that shiny hunting already is even more hellish from your original design
Fixing Exploits that don’t affect online play at all. What a caring company
It's literally supposed to be hellish. The base rate is 1/4096. It's supposed to be incredibly rare and special. Also the exploits most definitely affect online play considering you can dupe items and make a team of perfect mons in about 10% the time. Keep those perfect teams for the people that are willing to put the work into building them.
@@RichieAnthonyGuitar The idea that shinies should be incredibly rare and special is horribly outdated. With people pulling shinies forwards from older games and the deluge from PoGo, shinies are just common anymore.
I'm all for exploiting glitches and bad code, especially when some things are not even coded into the game as obtainable like electirizer/magmarizer depending on the version you're playing.
Fans: fix the guaranteed IV rates
GameFreak/ILCA: let's make the odds lower and keep the furthest patch 93%
Edit: like atleast make the furthest patch 100%. It's so infuriating when you're at such a high chain.
And patch glitches that affect no gameplay other than their own. ILCA is useless and pathetic
EXACTLY! What people do with their own games offline is their own business, sure ban people who take the pokes online but don't ruin it for everybody. I guarantee if nintendo made this they'd have let the menu glitch slide at least for awhile, ILCA is trash. I would even go so far as to say that beings the game wasn't produced by Nintendo that's its not even a 100% faithful remake its kinda like if you bought bd/sp from wish 😂

I would at least happily settle if we had a 96 or 97% of the chain continuing. Can't tell you how many chains I lost before this update. It's already very hard and time consuming to get a 40 chain in just a day. So why the hell do you have to make it harder to get a 40 chain??? What is the reason behind that. Someone tell me.

Yesterday I got to a chain of 13 for the first time and a evolution broke my chain, I was about to release that Togepi so fast.
I had a 22 chain on Sentret and Mesprit showed up to interrupt it. Went back to chaining sentret and it showed up again.
lmao I hunted for 4 days for around 2 to 4 hours at a time, my highest is a chain of 17 and other than that one time I couldnt make it past a 14 chain

The fact that they patch something so insignificant but not fix the way ivs were supposed to be implemented shows they no longer care about what the fans want.
Man I want to love these games, but they're making it really hard. I enjoyed my first weekend with this game so much, and have barely touched it since. It's sad that my first thought was correct: The best thing to come out of these games are going to be the ROM hacks thanks to the engine they used.
I had fun with the game up until post game. All the stuff I wanted to use is there and its pointless to catch them since I have home. Post game was so boring and the battle tower is just not worth my time.
I do in fact not love this. But, I was afraid we were going to discover that the 1/99 had been bumped up to a chain of 50 or something.
Don't you worry, increasing the chain to 50 is probably coming in the next update
I was thinking about the possibility of going for a shiny dex because I heard this method would've made my life alot easier for this gen. Sort of having my doubts with these updates and IV changes (or lack of). Full odds legendaries aren't incredible either.
Still going to get at least 4 or 5 of the legendaries though. I've reached encounter 4400 on dialga with no luck :/

Hey guys one good way to think about hunting like this is that it’s basically going to give you a chain of 40 out of every 20 (on average) failed chains so maybe you could think about the shiny rates as 1/20 chains to get a shiny instead of only a 5% chance to get to a chain of 40. It made the grind much more fun and manageable for me. Hope this helps :)
You know I was so hyped to play this remake. My girlfriend introduced me to shiny hunting in Sword and Shield. It had been years since I picked up a Pokemon title. She told how fun it was to shiny hunt in the original Diamond and Pearl. The simple fact the Shiny Charm is for the first restricted to a single method over effecting the whole game was a let down. Breeding is my preferred method, but this still a problem for a lot of hunters. It's a little harsh even though this is a remake of a classic title. At least they didn't shiny lock legendaries this time, but this is a hell of trade off for it. I really just dropped the ball on this title. I can't be the only person that feels like that.
I was hyped af for this game and even bought both versions day one.
But honestly I stopped playing after a week and went back to SW/SH I started (1st time) just a little before SD/BP launch. I don't get why people hate SW/SH so much, I'm having a real blast, while SD/BP was just nostalgia.

The shiny charm not being fixed is borderline unacceptable. Like it seriously makes me not even want to buy legends Arceus because of it. Then on top of that the PokeRadar is absolute dookie with even the IVs being broken. I mean come on. We shouldn't accept this.
Oh, a video suggestion: A video on EV-training, IV upgrading, ability/nature changing? a lot of ppl try to optimize their team right now in lategame!

Basically getting a Shiny has no use in the entire game and you can complete the game without getting Shiny
But IV system should be fixed because IVs can clearly change how your pokemon will be in competitive

@@chaseelwind1578 True... the only downside of Bottle Caps is you can't breed a perfect IV pokemon using Hyper Trained Pokemon
I did a chain of 40 and got Dittos with at least 1 Best IV in different stats and breed my Pokemon with them to get 5 Best IVs and hyper train for the last one

This is still way more forgiving than the originals.
In OG Diamond & Pearl, the Radar’s chance of continuing the chain also relied on making sure you didn’t walk into a shaking patch that had any shaking patches adjacent to it OR in the same row or column. There was still that chance that the chain wouldn’t continue, but they’ve made it slightly easier in these versions that the only rule you REALLY have to stick to is the shaking patches being 4 spaces away. And the fact that it’s no longer a memory game of where the last patch was.
I mean sure but this is literally the only other (reliable) shiny hunting method beside eggs. This game is only good shiny hunting wise because of radar.
Still play x and y because of the dozen shiny hunting methods you have.
Personally I liked the OG's pokeradar. At least if my chain broke it was my fault and not because I did everything right.
Just finally caught a shiny ralts! It was only one patch away but the chain continued. Sadly ran out of repels though :(
I also lost my chain of shiny ralts’ due to running out of repels 🥲 I’ll tell you what though, that’s a lesson I’m making sure I never need to learn again
Rookie mistake
I just got "7 percented" (as my friend and I have started calling it) on a 37 chain for Buneary. It hurts... but at least I kept doing everything right. (Despite how hard the blur effects in Eterna Forest have been making it.)
bruh my chain broke 6 times already at 38 and 39 together.......
I got to 36 eevees and it broke. Took everything I had to not spike my controller
i managed to get fifty before it broke and had an epiphany. This game is not worth breeding in until the home update. I beat legends to see to breeding a few pokemon in bdsp and after several attempts and no worthwhile results. i'm just gonna breed any gen 1-4 pokemon in older games.

@@joeloweryourexpectationsbiden well becoming champion is basically beating the game. You don't have to do either to get the poke radar. I made it to the elite 4 have not battled them and I completed the pokedex and got the radar.

You've made the 7% the most horrifying number for me. Dude half of my chains break before I even reach 10 and I'm convinced the game hates me.

- 10-streak = 48%
- 20-streak = 23%
- 40-streak = only 5,5%
Just keep grinding and eventualy you will get there!
I have a hard time understanding the logic behind making it harder to get legitimate shinies. like if this were a closed system and everything went along just as the developers intended, I would actually be ok with making it harder to get them, because scarcity is what makes them valuable and cool. but we live in a pokemon meta climate where hacked mons are rampant and handed out to anyone gullible and naive enough to take them, and the powers that be either don't care or simply won't take the necessary action to fix it. makes me real sad whenever I have to explain to a kid that the boxes of shiny legendaries they got from surprise trades are fake and should be released, or at least never used, and that they should never use surprise trade or trade with anyone they don't know IRL.
so it feels weird to me when I see them taking direct, hostile action against the players who are out there on the grind to do things the right way, and it insinuates that ILCA is joining the proud tradition of ignoring the ongoing state of pokemon hacking.

It’s official. I am the luckiest being on earth. Not only did I catch registeel in a regular pokeball then I proceeded to catch a regice in a premiere ball with it at half hp and no status effects. I also looked back at my shiny history via Pokémon home and caught a shiny mime jr 9 days after starting my first Pokémon game I also caught a shiny absol 21 days after starting my first Pokémon game and caught a shiny psyduck about a month after starting my first Pokémon game. Also have been very lucky with wonder trades and got a shiny phione, shiny gmax hatterene in a luxury ball holding a master ball, and that’s just the start of my luck.
Has anyone else run into a bug where you get stuck in the grass when using the Pokeradar in a swarm area?

After 3 days, god knows how many failed chains, I finally got above a 30 chain and got the shiny smeargle at 39 chain😃 then it broke! Amazing work as always keep it up!

Thank you for the confirming the change Austin! I've been trying to keep a Reddit group informed about how chaining works and your videos are very well structured so I often link people to them.
They should be making the chance to continue HIGHER, not lower! Catching on the furthest patch should be either 100% or much closer to it!
Yep, I agree. Should be made easier to continue if you do it right. Especially since the code is broken regarding the IVs. That would be a decent workaround, at least you CAN get to 40 easier to GET those 3 max IVs 😛
Call me crazy but I think IVs shouldn't be random period. Natures are fine, they're the equivalent of spending talent points. But IVs just create objetively bad pokemon in order to make it even grindier.
You can also hunt for 0 IVs in certain stats like Speed for trick room users or Attack for pure Sp.Atk users to minimize confusion damage.
I was shiny hunting spiritomb and i think i stumbled upon a bug. I saved before the pillar and kept soft resetting but eventually captured 1 to check the nature and iv's, but decided not to keep it and soft resetted, but when i booted up again, i was able to encounted spiritomb again AND i still had the one i captured before. did it 4-5 times and it seems i can capture and encounter infinite spiritomb without needing to talk to 32 npc's again.

The 5% to 40 chain is confidence statistics. In the same way, if it interests you, you can be 95% confident you will see a shiny if you encounter 3x odds (in any hunt/method).

5:25 lol the sun shineth upon thine face today
After destroying myself on the pokeradar for the past few days, I found a method that worked for me: spam resetting the radar. At 9, I reset bc my chain kept breaking before 10. At 13-15 I reset again, at 19 I reset etc. i basically reset every couple or so rounds out of fear of my chain breaking and I actually managed to get 30+ chains again. At 30, I try to just reset the radar until the shiny patch spawns. Found 3 shinies today like this.
I've been shiny hunting Shinx for the past week, finally last night I got to a chain of 38, caught my 39th Shinx to start rolling for shinies, and then the chain broke :(
Update: FINALLY I got it! Took me another 4 days after I had made this comment, I had a chain of 8 :)
Keep going the highest chain i got to was only 17 but after a reset i got super lucky and got him on a chain of 5.. i traded him to my son so he can play through the whole game with a shiny shinx as his partner =) good luck man
Same for me when i was going after Ralts. Got to 38 three times and it broke ever time. Finally got to 39 after 3 days and i starter re rolling on 39. Got my shiny, then chain broke lol
Shinx was the first chain that was succesful for me - Ive only had 2 chains work so far (shinx and ralts) and my ralts chain broke countless times before I finally got it today. If you want a shinx or ralts i would be happy to trade one to you.

You know what would be a great update? Making berries not take 24 hours. I think 0 people would complain about that and most people would think it's a benefit to be able to actually grind them instead of a daily activity no one wants to do. That would be a good update for sure. This is a pointless one that almost no one is gonna like. Why? I agree, menu glitch needed to go but why this? I hope somehow we get an actual update that isnt just bug fixes and things no one asked for.

I feel it would've been better to have the percentage of breaking a chain 2% for max distance, but every 10th chain it adds another 1%. Also they needa fix the IVs asap because I want a good ditto.

Traditional Medicinal tea bags might help! I use the Throat Coat one with a bit of honey mixed in when I'm sick and it's usually really helpful

I tried to get a 100 chain ditto capture on Saturday, I got to 36 and the chain broke. glad I watched this because I didn't know that going 4 spaces away gave a 93% chance of continuing the chain.

Hunted for a shiny budew the other day, My chain broke at 39 and I nearly broke my switch in half

I see. So this really only hurts most shiny hunters who want to get multiple shinies. So doesn't affect me. I don't care to farm multiples
when they don't fix the long load screen, chaining iv's, using your pc storage in veilstone gym, skipping the puzzle in snowpoint gym, menu glitch while interacting with objects, changing your game time to 23:59 the day prior to skip the 24h event lock.... etc... makes me wonder what the devs are doing...

I was doing a chain for Hoppip and can confirm I got the animation for at least 2 guaranteed IVs at 15

After four times of my streak breaking because the grass didn't start shaking, even when I did everything right, I have given up.
I posted about this on Reddit. I’m pretty sure there’s a glitch in the game where if there’s two patches an equal amount away from you. Then it messes with the % of continue and breaks your chain.
I had several other shiny hunters on Reddit tell me the same.
This would explain why I have a tough time getting past chain 5 and 10 xD
Honestly the way Nintendo patches seem to work is always "let's make it harder" above "let's make sure it all works 100%"
They should’ve made the 93% chance to continue the chain back to the 97% chance if they nerf the continue chance for any of the tiles distances less than 4
I spent a whole day chaining Shinx, doing everything right, re rolling if it wasn't 4 times away. Still only managed to get a chain of 31 as my highest. No clue what's going on.
I don’t mind the IVs. Because then you could get to 30-40 and catch everyone and chances are you’ll have enough dittos with separate perfect IVs to breed a perfect Pokémon which would make going to 100 chain for an almost perfect useless.
Is that 4 square box overlay something added in in post, or is that something that I could get on my game? Ive been going for days and my highest streak has only been a 36, I could use all the help I can get lol.

I'm glad they didn't mess with the chances once you're at that 40-streak though. Really freaked out that the actual shiny rates went down. Been able to get 3 Wooper's, 1Nincada, and 2 Wurmple's the last two weeks!
Been shiny hunting Palkia since the Sunday after release. Averaging 240 resets a day between my wife and me. About 3300 resets in. The only shiny I have ever obtained was a shiny Gossifleur in Sword and it was bred via Masuda method and took 1200 eggs. My shiny luck has always been horrendous.

I didn't register what you said about the IVs last time and I was sad when I finally got my shiny ditto and if had no best IVs 😭
I'm honestly so put out at how much effort it takes to breed full IV pokemon in this game... just give us home integration, and give an option for no timer pokemon battles. Its as if nobody at ILCA has played a pokemon game before.
