You can see the sheer effort that went into the making of this video. Thanks for taking the time to make the ultimate guide - everything I could think of is covered and there is just a TON of super helpful information there. For me personally, I loved the part about what to do before hunting, genreral info, infos for nerds and the part about the Radar. Cheers bro - this is a milestone for the shiny hunting community.
Super stoked to finish this project!
Best of luck on all of your shiny hunts fellow hunters and make sure to share this must have knowledge with your fellow hunters!
I never knew about the diglett in the underground increasing odds, so interesting to know. Great job with the video!
Glad to hear that!! Thank you so much Bacon!
Excellent video man! I really enjoyed it, and you can see the hard work behind it. It's amazing! Thank you, it inspired me to start my shiny hunting!
That is amazing, best of luck with your sparkling journey in BDSP! I really appreciate the compliments, thank you very much!
It's here yeees! I am so looking forward to see this video!
Glad this popped up in my feed while SRing for Giratina. Gonna be hunting Regigigas soon (still need to hunt Regice first), but the tip to KO it and respawn it for faster resets is dope!
Even though i don't own the game, i still was really interested by this guide. Amazing work Oli, as always!
I learned a tons of new features, tips, facts... that i didn't know before, thank you for increasing my knowledge! I will definitely make sure to suggest and share this video around me. This guide is very useful. Keep it up, see you soon!
I'm super happy you found this video helpful!!
Thank you so much, I appreciate it Jujuice! Also happy new year to you!
Thanks again for all the info. I have saved it for later watching so I can fully absorb. Merry Christmas man hope your holidays were wonderful.
Merry Christmas to you as well man, thank you so much! Enjoy the video!
Fantastic video as always!
Some minor things that I'd like to point out:
18:22 You can also get a hidden ability patch with shiny sparkles, so there are technically four patches. It's super rare, but it does occur
29:30 If you want to go for one specific mon and don't care about the others, you can do some optimization here. Get as many slates as you can (I have ten right now for my Latias and that's plenty IMO), catch the mons that you won't be targeting (in my case, that was Latios) and then save right before inserting the slates. Now you can run from the legendary if it's not shiny and just insert your remaining slates one by one to get more encounters, which is definitely faster than soft resetting after every encounter. I haven't timed it yet (and the fact that you have to grind up some slates in the first place also needs to be considered), but at the very least, this method has a much better flow IMO.
29:59 On the matter of levels, it's worth mentioning that your active pokémon should absolutely be a higher level than your target because ever since SW/SH, your catch rate gets *destroyed* if you're underleveled, even if the level difference is minimal.
30:07 Not really relevant to the shiny-hunting process, but do keep in mind that you cannot remove hidden abilities. Ramana's Park's Suicune, for example, will forever have Inner Focus instead of Pressure, which I found out the hard way.
35:08 This route is not optimal - going diagonally is considerably faster than going up and down in a straight line in BDSP. Floaroma Meadow comes to mind; I'll come back to this comment if something truly optimal is found. Of course, going up and down does have the benefit of requiring next to no attention, so it's not useless or anything, just suboptimal.
All in all, I really love this video and will be posting it whenever appropriate!
Thank you so much for the detailed comment Bnoopy!
Really glad you enjoyed the video as well!
I didn't even think about the multiple slate method for Ramanas Park, definitely sounds like a great solution (kinda similar to the fossils where the more you have the faster the hunt will be).
Will def use that for future legends hunts!
All very solid points!
These games are such great remakes! Thank you for making such a guide
Agreed! You are welcome brother!
loved this video, keep up the good work!
Glad to hear friend, thank you so much!
Great video, watched this while shiny hunting
Best of luck on your hunts! Glad you enjoyed the video!
Thanks for the guide!
You're very welcome!
The amount of time it takes to make a video like this.. Great video Oli, watched the entire thing knowing I most likely wouldnt learn anything new from it, well done bro!
Also; did you know the odds are not exactly 1/4096 apperently?
Thank you so much Nils! Glad you enjoyed it brother!
Yes I know about that, I talk about it in section "Additional Info (for nerds)" :P
For resetting for the shiny starters, turn off battle animations (It'll save you 1 second which doesn't seem like much, but it is a lot in the long run)
Actually base odds sway between 1/4082 and 1/4109 which is quite interesting. These are ver helpful tips and will help many shiny hunters eventually see the sprakles
I'm fairly certain this only applies to some encounter types, such as roamers. But it is still worth pointing out.
EDIT: this is covered near the end, where it applies to roamers and eggs, apparently
As I am hunting Riley's Riolu, I can confirm that if you fill up your boxes and party slots you'll be able to claim the egg after the Galatic Battle.
Awesome! Thanks for the confirmation!
Another good pokemon for shiny hunting in bdsp I find has been Pachirisu since it has access to super fang, nuzzle, thunder wave while also being a lil tanky and fast.
Solid one for sure! Never used it myself, might consider it for some upcoming hunts!
Thank you!
You're welcome!
Amazing video bro! I loved seeing the shiny models for all the partner based missions in bdsp, can't wait to hunt at Iron Island, and soft reset for rotom!
Some of the partnermode targets are real bangers! Thank you so much brother!
Best of luck to your hunts whenever you start them!
Great guide, haven't shiny hunted in years, but recently bought brilliant diamond and this was a great refresher. Underrated video, I'd show this to anyone who wanted to start shiny hunting.
Appreciate the words man, means a lot!! Best of luck on your BDSP adventures!!
Shows how little I pay mind to things, didn't realize you were in the underground race thing. I tried to take part but my team didn't get enough people. Good job looking out for people though!
That's probably because I wasn't able to stream it - but most of my team streamed the event! Was really fun!
I'm speaking purely hypotheticals here, as I've yet to do the hunt myself, but isn't it possible to fill up your party and every Pokemon box before taking on Team Galactic with Riley? That way, when he tries to give you the Riolu egg, you don't have any space for a new Pokemon, so you can go back later. I'm not sure if you have to re-do the battle every time or not, but it'd be much nicer if you don't have to battle them every reset.
With that obligatory question out of the way, thank you so much for this video! I dawdled a bit on watching this as I didn't want to be spoiled too much on shiny hunting in this game, but I figure it's probably for the best that I see all my options beforehand instead of going in blind haha. This was really well put-together and a fantastic guide that I will definitely be referring to for my future hunts, as well as recommending it to my fellow shiny hunters. Thanks again Oli, awesome work as always! Best of luck on your hunts :)
I'm super glad you found the video helpful, thanks so much for the compliment Kazz!
As for your theory about the Riolu hunt - yes that should work! I also made a little note at 35:26 which mentions this, however it's quite the setup as we have 40 boxes in bdsp! That means we'd need to catch 1,212 Pokémon just to set up the hunt. But considering you're not lucky with that hunt and actually go to odds (or above), it will save you some time for sure. I'm still not sure myself if I'll fill up all the boxes for this hunt once it's time, because it would be kinda crazy if you set all this up just to get the shiny in 3 digits or something 😂
@@OliverMKP Ah, I completely missed that! Thanks for pointing that out haha. I hope that we can get Home compatability soon - I'd love to try out the filling boxes method
@@Kazzouli Oh very good point, once home connection is there it's gonna be way easier to fill up the boxes!
are shiny's in ramanas park based on frames like in the original ruby and sapphire? for example, if I spam A while resetting for my rayquaza, could I be seeing the same rayquaza if i fall on the same frame as the previous reset?
This frame scenario you're talking about is only in Pokemon Emerald or in Ruby/Sapphire with dead battery. But luckily, in BDSP rng works completely different, I am not a RNGer so I can't 100% explain the technical stuff but it's somehow based on random generated seeds and also tied to your console day and time.
Basically, you can just randomly spam A and reset until the shiny appears.
Is there a general online code for shiny hunting in the grand underground where random people just always work together?
Not specifically for shiny hunting (at least not that I know of), but if you just join online underground without code you'll always have people in the underground, that way its faster to collect Diglett even if not all of them might search for them.
But def faster than alone!
Man, do you guess that If making resets to get shinies legendaries, is It possible corrupt the save data ?
Resetting the game will not harm any save data. You're fine even if you do thousands of resets!
question about roamers. i heard you can just check the pokedex because the shiny is already determined. is that true or can you find confirmation on that?
Yes that was a rumor in the first days after release, however it's proven to be wrong. You need to hunt the roamers the way I showed in the reset examples.
Here is the prove that this rumor is wrong:

@@OliverMKP thank you for that ur awesome i loved the vid
Im resetting rayquaza over a year (well like 7 months game break but thats not the matter)
Multiple hundred resets in. Feels like the black sky snake is a lie
Currently going for shiny Raquaza im at 450 resets. Anyone here done this with legendarys and how many attempts did it take?
do static and magnet pull and the other ones work in other generations to?
Static and Magnet Pull work from Pokemon Emerald (Gen 3) onwards to the latest games.
@@OliverMKP the grass water and fire ones too? wanna hunt some things in gen 4
@@OliverMKP and does it need to be alive or can it be fainted in front of you party
@@fristizuiger223 fainted works as well, the only thing matters is that it needs to be slot 1 (as I mentioned in the video) 👍🏼
@@fristizuiger223 Also Harvest, Storm Drain and Flash fire started to work recently (with Gen 7 or 8, but definitely not in Gen 4 yet).
The highest odds in the game is a 40 pokerader chain 1/99 odds
Yes! And I am going into detail in the Pokeradar part why it's best to avoid 40 chains for your shinies🙂
Apparently foresight isn't in the game
I really hate saying this over and over. I disagree with the shiny odds increasing in the Grand Underground.
You get a second roll at full odds. That’s an increase in chance for shiny, not in odds.
If I told you to roll two 6 sided die, you can’t roll a 12 sided die instead.
Two rolls at full odds is the equivalent of dual hunting in the forest and with Riley. You get essentially two encounters on the single Pokémon.
I agree talking about "shiny odds" is always tricky.
With any method in these games we essentially just get additional shiny rolls.
Via masuda i.e. we get 6 shiny rolls on the 1/4096 odds. It doesn't equal 1/683,
but gets close to this number in a larger scale. We just round down to 683 so it's easier to understand for the majority.
For the Grand Underground and also for (no masuda) eggs with Shiny Charm, we get 2 shiny rolls instead one.
Those both have the same scenario and doesn't exactly equal 1/2048, but get close to that when you have a mass sample size.
All the numbers are calculated by the dataminers who worked on the official shiny sheets for BDSP. However, I am also a fan of "You roll a 4096 sided dice a 2nd time for each encounter if the Diglett bonus is active" instead of just saying the odds are a fixed 1/2048 - that's why I tried to list both numbers together and worked with the "~"-symbol.
Appreciate the input Snuggie!
@@OliverMKP the rolling of the dice is the best way I can explain it to other people.
I like your reasoning though and appreciate that you understand where I’m coming from.
Is chain fishing not a method?
It is a method, but not in BDSP. Chain fishing is only a method in the Gen 6 games.
Found a shiny Golbat while watching this 🗣️🗣️🗣️
Congratulations!!✨
I hate pokeradar. "Dont go all the way to 40 go to 39" bro i cant even get up to FUKIN 20! Worst dam method ever.
the worst game for shiny hunting
But legendaries arent shiny locked
@@RhysWernerAnd full odds since the charm isn't doing shit
All games after this were 1000x worse. Scarlet and violet are literally unplayable kindergarten BS.
@@RhysWerner yeah only good thing about it
@WagwanHappyPappyHapPap SV are still playable and worth playing alot more than bdsp
